There was time on that sack. He just held on too long -

Hmmm. Bringing in Earle. I guess this means they want to run the QB more? Otherwise I dont' get why theyd do this. Unless Rogers had some problem after that blindside hit he took (after which he still scored later in the half) -

On offense and defense the same story in this half. Player mostly better than navy, but let them off the hook almost every time. -

Important to force them to use up all the clock before they get down field here -

Offense has been beating itself. Left all the points on the board in the first quarter. Now paying heavily for it in the second. -

Death by a thousand runs. Although I am pretty sure there was a hold on that final run -
Barnett is spot on: recruiting staffs need someone there to be the bad guy, and that can't be anyone on campus, it has to be the NCAA. The coach in charge of the unofficial will not care about the time wasted by other staffers and those staffers don't have the power to say no unless the NCAA does it for them. Without an outside force stepping in everybody will rightly feel like they are in a race where they have to do this, as otherwise the unofficial 4/5 star recruit on his visit will say: "but the other university DID it! You guys don't like me / are no fun /don't respect my team mates I brought along."

North Texas vs Navy (10/06/2023) Score Predictions
outoftown replied to Big Z's topic in Mean Green Football
45- 38 for UNT. Bet the over. I am seriously considering signing up to a betting site, just to bet the over on this one. O/U is 61.5 right now and each and every poster in this thread has guessed above that. -
After 4 games, how do we feel about Coach Morris?
outoftown replied to 3_n_out's topic in Mean Green Football
The first 6 quarters: a solid F. The 10 quarters since: C+. He solved the most important position which is something NT only had with Fine in the last 10 years. But there are 21 other starting positions on O and D, and most of those on D are far from where they need to go in terms of productivity. C+ is not gonna keep him in Denton 3 years from now. He needs to improve further, but it is encouraging that he at least moved in the right direction a bit. I like my coaches capable of learning from their mistakes. That was a real issue with both MacCarney and Littrell, who -once they found something that worked for one of their teams- were fairly stubborn in the years after that. -
I can tell you, my baby boy is not giving up his candy freely. He will hold on for dear life.

Eric Morris visits The San Antonio QB Club - Part 1
outoftown replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I am encouraged by this interview. Particularly by the fact that he understands he did things wrong and is actively reevaluating his decisions all the time, and that he appears to take practical steps to change them (although when it gets to actual details there sometimes isn't so much given here, but it sounds like it had practical implications). Personally I think that may be the most crucial ability in a leader. Everybody makes mistakes, but only some are quick to address them. You need some values and some perseverance, but under SL and MacCarney, in the end it sometimes turned into pure stubbornness. I take it he will change how he handles the portal. He has to. I hope he will find solutions for the defense too. He has to as well, as otherwise he is unlikely to last his contract. -
I don't see Wichita State on that conference slate. Is that an error or is that correct?

Its hard to learn how to win games. That said: what would the score have been with a referee crew that wasn't looking to keep tech in the game? I don't think it would have been close.
-
Seriously, Brown has taken a player and was betting on the NCAA caving as it usually does with P5. He gets pissed for not getting his way. Notice how the whole statement is very short on actual details. But I think the NCAA should generally approve less waivers. If in fact they didn't approve any wavers for any reason then everyone would know the rules and expectations would come back to what they ought to be and no judgement calls would be necessary. That would be good, because the NCAA has big conflicts of interests every time it makes judgment calls, making it easily attackable. Sadly that would take spine, which the NCAA -by the design of the P5 schools that control it- doesn't have.

Decent start to coach Calcaterras tenure.
-
I am sure Sujay Lama is happy at Arkansas state and Brad Stracke was just dying to coach at Odessa college. It may not look like much to you but notice how those folks -who had once been good but had been starting to stall out a few years ago - magically started pursuing new opportunities once the new AD wasn't bogged down anymore by basketball coaching search and football reorg.

Ouch. that one hurts. The men's team is really on the downswing. On a different note, UNT alumus Rosenmueller got a third place finnish on the KornFerry tour a week ago.

It was pretty obvious what Benford was after one game, as he took what was a roster full of talent left behind and the player with the most (never to be fulfilled in any way) raw talent UNT basektball ever saw and easily lost to a DII team. Notice how Wren never fired him, but rather let him coach it out until the end of his contract. Cal is no DII team, and the UNT roster left behind was not great. You could argue that Morris should have dipped heavier into the portal (which is probably true) but that sure would have been helped hade the admins taken their decision at a better date rather than wait forever to make sure that the SL and WB eras matched each other exactly in terms of football games. You can also argue that Morris went too hard on inexperienced coaches, and that may be true. However that should also give you hope that they may actually learn from their mistakes pretty quickly. They will have to, otherwise they will not be long for their business. I trust that Morris does not get to the end of his contract if things keep looking like that for two years. Jared doesn't seem to have a WB-like aversion to firing anyone.

This team is good at quite a few things. unfortunately it may not matter, because run defense is that bad. -

Receivers are better than i thought they would be. Haven't seen many stupid drops yet and farily good route running actually. Plus this acrobatic catch right now. I also see potential in Earle, even though at times he seems raw. -

I like Tejada. He has improved a lot across the last two years. But he now really needs to improve at tackling help. -

Can't imagine that tackling help is anything other than a primary focus in film study on monday. It is really those cases when defenders colleague has a hold but not certainly has the guy down, where somehow our folks have failed to put in the effort.
