  1. On Monday night, UTSA coach Jeff Traylor raised eyebrows. Traylor garnered tons of reaction, from other coaches who echoed his sentiment about tampering to critics who called for him to name names. On Wednesday, after putting the finishing touches on the best signing class in UTSA history, Traylor elaborated on his frustration, saying some of his players have come to him with name, image and likeness opportunities at other schools. NCAA rules state that players aren’t supposed to be contacted by other schools until they are officially in the transfer portal. “The rules are, you can’t tamper,” Traylor said. “So what do the guys do that have been cheating forever? They go third party, and you can’t catch them. “So then you go to your player who’s coming to you telling you what school is offering them what, and you ask the kid if he’ll turn them into the NCAA, and the kid’s like, ‘I can’t coach, then all the (other) players would be mad at me, because I’m costing the (other) players money.’” Traylor is the latest coach to air grievances regarding tampering. Washington State coach Jake Dickert recently sounded off, as did Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi and North Carolina coach Mack Brown. Fisher mentioned it at his A&M signing day news conference Wednesday: “There’s so much tampering going on, it’s utterly ridiculous.” Asked what’s preventing Traylor from being more open with his accusations, Traylor said proof is hard to come by. “Those guys have been doing this for years,” Traylor said. “It’s N-I-L: Now It’s Legal. They’ve got agents. There’s a workaround. You’re not gonna get a text, you’re not gonna get a screenshot. They’re really good at what they do, and it’s gonna take some serious enforcement to make guys quit it.” He added that he spoke with NCAA officials before his Monday tweet, but “they don’t have the manpower,” he said, to enforce the rules. “They need me to go on record, saying who,” Traylor said. “Then it’s gonna be my word versus his word. And I don’t want to get my players in that, because I’ve already talked to them. They really don’t wanna go down that road. But the people that are doing it, they saw my tweet.” Traylor said he’s not against NIL and he’s in favor of players making money. But he’s upset that Group of 5 programs like his sign and develop players only to have to fend off Power 5 programs. He also noted that UTSA’s NIL efforts need to increase and that the school’s administration must continue investing in the program. The Roadrunners’ 2023 class ranks 58th, which is No. 1 among programs that will be in the Group of 5 next season. “I didn’t come here to be the best G5,” Traylor said. “I want us to get (to the top of the) Power 5. So, to me, we’re (57) spots behind where we need to be. “We’ve got to get our NIL money up or we’re never gonna get there.” The above is a portion of the article from The Athletic: https://theathletic.com/4027116/2022/12/22/texas-recruiting-manning-fisher/?source=freedailyemail&campaign=601983
  2. Good press conference! I'm impressed. Some of the things I picked up: Coach Morris has a lot of self confidence and self confidence is contagious. He loves his wife and family, he drinks a lot of water, and he has an older brother who likes to drink beer and raise hell.
  3. just announced 8:25 kick
  4. I hate these dry spells.
  5. We look worn out.
  6. “When you play that type of monster schedule and you don’t have many home games, it’s tough,” said Johnny Jones, who has led the Tigers to two trips to the NCAA tournament since coming to Texas Southern in 2018 https://andscape.com/features/texas-southern-looking-to-show-growth-at-chris-pauls-hbcu-challenge/
  7. Career Changes The headline was startling yexterday: Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker will be the NCAA’s next president, replacing Mark Emmert. Baker was an athlete — averaging a cool 1.6 points per game for the 1977-78 Harvard basketball team. But that has little to do with why he got the job. Baker, 66, takes over at a time when the NCAA is looking for a political path out of its troubles, notably with name, image and likeness, Nicole Auerbach writes. This is a bet Baker knows how to create coalitions of support in D.C. Hiring a politician is the NCAA’s attempt to protect itself, Dana O’Neil argues. For Baker, the job will be a change in a couple ways. Per Morning Consult, he’s the most popular governor in the U.S. This role is basically getting yelled at all day. The other change? Compensation. Being Massachusetts governor paid $185,000. Emmert made $2.99 million. -The Athletic Plus - Dec 16, 2022
  8. Goes on Coach Morris's record, doesn't it?
  9. Not tall is good. Nick Saban is 5'-6" and Bobby Bowden was 5'-5".
  10. Does a fellow get tagged with "Coach Fly" just because he arrived in Denton on an airplane? Rhymes with Fry street.
  11. It's hard to unchoke someone.
  12. For the time being, I think you can get a Junior Woodchucks AAC badge with three Wheaties box tops.
  13. In my experience, hiring a consultant helps to de-liable-ize the process...nothing more. The candidate(s) are more than likely already in pocket.
  14. This is worrisome...almost a gut punch. Please, let's look at other options.
  15. I support Colby Carthel as head coach of Mean Green football.
  16. I understand what you are saying and you make a valid point. On the other hand, I'm hoping for long term service in all positions and I have great expectations that the AD should arrive with a vision and a list of candidates. It's connective... if the new AD hires, then the new AD will be responsible/liable. AD first is a team building method. If the President conducts the coaching search, it indicates to me that he has already chosen the interim AD as the permanent AD.
  17. Do we even have that much money? It's like our daddy ran off with another woman.
  18. Is Sun Belt football underrated? Rank open Group of 5 coaching jobs? G5 Drive This is a moving target, both as other jobs open and as the searches play out. Things change. But here’s how I’d rank them right now: 1. Liberty 2. USF 3. FAU 4. UNLV 5. Western Michigan 6. Tulsa 7. Texas State The article: https://theathletic.com/3956767/2022/12/01/sun-belt-conference-championships-g5/?source=freedailyemail&campaign=601983
