Have we reached the golden age of North Texas athletics?

Fulfillment exists once you’ve lived up to your potential. We had SWC potential once. Fulfillment will exist when we get a seat at that kind of table. That’s why I give money is to be at that level in State football consciousness. Random people being curious if they Mean Green won. Even Baylor struggles with that Sunday morning brain space but that’s what I want out of my donations. Let’s freakin soar! -

That’s good feedback. Think more financial incentives with float awards for orgs and campus wide recognition would help for sure. Roll that thing onto the field for the GB to march around at halftime and do a fundraiser for em!

I tend to believe it’s less intent than it is cognitive dissonance. And both interactors feed the other, like a slow divorce. Truth is I think we all crave connecting in our pride about this place, we just haven’t figured out how to do it yet. The parade is one of the things that actually always seemed to do that, bonfire too, Super Pit too, and the kids will get to the stadium if we win. I was pro Fouts site but with beer for sale, a cool Hill to tailgate on and a winning football team, I think we can get the students back in there.

Gagree. I don’t think this is about waste/emissions, and even if it is, let’s talk about compromises to make it greener. That’s cool with me. Buncha people riding on trailers or walking isn’t that bad anyway. It’s not a monster truck rally. Have recycling bins and mandatory material disposal at the end of the parade. Not that hard to come up with solutions.

I really do think most engaged alumni would agree, along with most businesses on the parade route. I’m 2.5 hours away but if anyone wants to actually get organized about pushing back against this ignoring of tradition, I’m all for organizing a group. I wouldn’t be surprised at all about an organized effort being successful about bringing it back.

I think its a pretty short list of schools who would get that level of treatment, Oregon being at the pinnacle of it. Influencing Nike is a tough call but it betters our merchandise situation to use them rather than a smaller supplier who we may have more bargaining chips with. I'm a Temple High grad and we have a tradition of wearing blue front white back pants. Sounds weird but they're gorgeous. We've left suppliers in the past over their willingness to make our pants. I think the merchandise benefit for NT probably outweighs the customizability of throwbacks for now though.

It's still on this schedule: https://studentaffairs.unt.edu/homecoming/schedule I was trying to find a link to their explanation about the parade from last year. Any idea where to find? Sustainability as in it is a waste of fuel or the waste created from the floats? I'm a conservationist at heart, but damn.

For some reason I feel it incumbent upon myself to explain the white. Nike currently does not offer that shade of green in the fabrics for pants and jerseys, so they had to roll with white for these throwbacks. I'm not sure if we carried more weight with them if that would inspire them to offer it. I'm sure if it was Texas they would, but most teams are probably in our situation with them on these types of issues.

It’s damn good to see Seth smile and to see the players with their fresh Eagle wing bit they’re doing. That’s camaraderie. It matters a ton. Who knows how long this lasts but when the magic happens and they get to have some fun it’s so easy to get excited about it. UNLV pissed me off so bad but we have a great chance to finish this thing strong and then make decisions while our kickass basketball team is playing. I’m gonna let this week be a happy sports week and have some hope and pride and look forward to more good times.

My undergrad years were 05-08 so I had two years each of DD and Todd. None of which were winning and it was a painful student experience for a kid who expected to go to 4 more straight New Orleans Bowls but I love both guys despite the challenges because you could see them both scraping potential greatness out of some hardscrabble soil. The thing I appreciated most about Todd was Riley. Say all you want about the whole era but a kid like Riley who is the epitome of toughness and being a great teammate couldn’t have been raised by a chump. And clearly Todd has his skins on the wall. It didn’t work out, for reasons which some belong to Todd and others belong to things out of his control. But apart from the tough times, I always admire seeing tough people and they were both tough people who weren’t afraid to put it on the line.

Damn it sure do…I have to admit I love their light blue and green old school lovelies. Combine that with NOLA, academics, former Sugar Bowl hosts…I have a small soft spot for those guys. Especially with their 12-0 team from ‘98…that was original representation for all of us G5’s. All that said, their new stadium sucks and although they’re good this year, if we ever get real about football we should beat them consistently. Should’ve beat them in the superdome in 13, I remember being so pissed about that. The cold sack loss couldve never even mattered had we won that stupid game. We were learning to win at the time in a mid season contest though. Just always wanted to avenge that. Also always wanted to avenge that dumb loss to Ohio that year. We so easily could’ve been a one loss team that year and even then we played Georgia great. I remember getting urinalside compliments in Athens at halftime about how great we were. Anyway, 2013 aside, we have unfinished bidness with Tulane and they don’t have all that much on us. We can very quickly overcome their recent prowess. But, I agree their logo and look are just terrific.

This year, sure. They were 2-10 last year. They're up and down.

5-6 vs. Rice to get bowl eligible is very reminiscent of 2019 going into Rice Stadium at 4-6 knowing you need a win to have a chance at getting bowl eligible...which didn't work out too well. Hope things work out differently this time!

This is correct. Nike was not offering that in their jersey palette so we had to go with white. Hope that changes someday.

Marcus Smith was such a dude and I always felt we under utilized him.
