  1. Not interested in seeing a rematch in LSU's backyard. LSU fans are crude...
  2. Really? Can't just appreciate a "feel good" story?
  3. Doesn't it say he did report it to Curley? That's why Curley is being charged because Curley did nothing...
  4. I think this is how it works: I don't know for sure the process at UNT but often budgets are prepared using estimates from previous years enrollments to determine anticipated student fees to be collected. So the unallocated student fees will get allocated once they're collected. They're usually at least a semester behind - spring fees get spent in the fall. An increase in enrollment = higher unallocated student fees. Some fees can only be spent for their intended purpose , i.e. Can't spend athletic fees for the library.
  5. Not sure it's wise to burn the red shirts this late in the season.
  6. Brooks left quite a while ago. Thompson red-shirt OL
  7. Would you stay with no chance of seeing playing time? Don't know if that's the reason, but no one else sees the field...
  8. Four DTs - Abbe, Cantly, Boutwell and Ladner
  9. Left the team
  10. You said it yourself "this is college football" These are kids. You're supposedly a grown-up. Act like it and accept that they need support. They don't need "don't care about winning" and "call themselves college athletes." I enjoy most of what is posted here, but not the QUITTERS who take it so seriously and personally that they can't support a team that obviously needs it.
  11. I'm all for the increased money going to the athletes themselves. I know one full scholarship player right now who spent the first few weeks without a cent to his name. It was awful. Between classes, studying, practices, team meetings, and adjusting to life far away from home and the support of family, finding a job was next to impossible. The haves and have nots I referred to were the big schools like OU, UT, etc who will now have even more to offer recruits. I think schools like UNT are going to have to find the funds somehow to stay competitive. Things appear to be turning around there though. Hope it can happen
  12. We could take this view, however: the stipend is supposed to help curb the student-athlete's temptation to sell memorabilia or accept inappropriate "donations" which is usually more prevalent at those higher level BCS schools. How much is a student-athlete going to make selling UNT gear as opposed to the Miami's and Ohio State's of the world?
  13. That's exactly the problem with it - the haves will have even more and the have nots will have even less. I don't know for sure how scholarships are funded; there is something called "student athlete opportunity fund" but I'm unclear if that's at the institutional level or a higher level. I know with the "anti-education" sentiment growing across the country, any increased funding for higher education is in peril anyway; unless it's a big BCS institution with big donor pockets, I don't know how it can be funded.
  14. The stipend increase applies to "head-count" sports - football and basketball for men, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and tennis for women. The alternative, "equivalency sports" are able to divide up their scholarship pot to get more recruits. Head-count sports use full-ride scholarships to recruit the best. If basketball only has money for 13 scholarships, they're not going to divide it up; they want to use the full-ride to get the best. I like the term the NCAA used - they call this a "student-athlete well-being improvement."
  15. Does seem to me that I heard or read that this stipend increase applies to "revenue generating" sports - football and basketball. I'm searching for details now and will post if/when I find it!
  16. We will be there no matter what time they play. This time change really helps us out, though. That 2.5 hour drive home after evening games is just miserable at 2:00 in the morning!
  17. UNT has shuttles for students running from Victory hall to campus all the time. Why not utilize some of those for game day? We drive from Oklahoma City for every home game and the parking situation really is a problem. People probably wouldn't mind paying $5 to park and another $1 or $2 to ride a shuttle or bus over. I think I've said it here before but OU lets people park at Lloyd Noble (a few miles from the stadium) for free and charges $2 to ride the bus. I know the volume is a lot higher, but UNT needs to bite the bullet until it gets the fan base to where it needs to be. It was especially difficult last night getting back to Fouts in the rain. If attendance is such an issue (as it seems to be from reading other posts), the administration should be trying to remove the barriers it can, instead of creating them.
  18. Doesn't help that the ou/Texas "packages" being touted for us Okies are higher than the online quotes anyone can get. Glad it's the UNT games (soccer and football) that we come for.
  19. Guess we better get our room reserved for the UNT game then, huh!?
  20. Caught the last 10 minutes of McCarney interview on WWLS sports radio in Oklahoma City this afternoon. Impressive. Host called him one of the best and he is now officially a UNT fan.

  21. Oklahoma has a no re-entry policy; and absolutely NO parking around the stadium (except some street parking and frat house revenue-generating parking). And the concessions we used took credit cards. My biggest complaint was the parking. Perhaps UNT could consider what OU does - they encourage everyone to park at Lloyd Noble (miles from the stadium) and use the OU bus system - at $1 - for a round trip to the stadium. I saw so many older fans trying to make that trek from Fouts and worried some of 'em weren't going to make it. Seems someone could make quite a bit with a golf cart and a minimal charge to get fans over there. Heard a lot of people complaining about their "climb" to the 25th row - geez, try OU where it's well over 100 stairs to the top - of every section! Overall, it was a great experience, and UNT folks have a lot to be proud of. Even enjoyed the game itself!
