I like 3 years with big incentives. At the end of the 2rd/ year if things are headed in the right direction offer a 1 year extension. Hopefully, like @Harry said, the coach will move onto bigger a program leaving us in a great position.

I like the idea of going after Briles/ Cumbie as HC and Smiley as OC/ Recruiter. That would be great at UNT. 2 great coaches that are names that can bring in recruits, even it is only for a year. "He's been in charge of recruiting DFW since the late 90's." Talk about a guy with HS tie-ins. Cumbie or Briles is that name coach that can take this offense and UNT to the next level. A combo like that would be an amazing get for UNT and should be seriously considered.

How long should the contract be for the new HC. I was think 3-4 years and no longer. I believe he needs time to recruit but we don't have the luxury to keep waiting to win if we ever want to move up in the football world. What are your thoughts on the topic and why?

that is what I wonder. It just amazes me thst out of 6 p5 players we attempted at 0. On another note, the gentlemen I spoke with was at the game on Thursday (his daughter is a cheerleader). He couldn't believe our D. ( he has been coaching football for 27 tears).

Talked to a football coach I know and about his son playing at tcu. His son played high school at argyle with 5 other players that went to P5 schools. He told me that his son and the other students were never approached by unt..... ever. He even questioned this. How does this happen right in our own back yard. This is the major problem and I hope the new HC addresses this.

Any thoughts on this. Is this a good hire?

Hfs talks about tunnel vision, but let's be honest, those sports are the ones people care about in Texas. They are suppose to bring in money. Is it not pathetic we haven't sold out a brand new stadium.... which had to be replaced because of all the stuff wrong with fouts( which hfs didn't mention). Basketball attendance is WAY down and we aren't even competitive. What hfs fails to mention is that RV doesn't make hires that keep up competitive in cusa. Furthermore, cusa needed teams. It isn't like RV make this miraculous jump into a conference that no one saw coming. RV is under performing plan and simple. His hires are well below having a winning average. Yes, RV has done somethings, but he has taken us as far as he can.

Some may be tired of reading about it, I understand. But if you are tired of reading about it then don't. UNT fans finally are demanding results and we are censoring it! Why? I for one embrace it no matter if I agree or not. I'm disappointed to see a topic locked for reasons these reasons.

The position we are in we need more than a coach with with a good resume (there are a lot out there). We need a NAME. Someone with a good resume and someone students, recruits, and fans know.We have a great chance here to do something special.

I don't believe we need to look beyond the FCS. There are plenty of OC/DC and FCS head coaches that we shouldn't need to look into DII and Juco

The firing of Dan had to happen, and possibly others need to be. But there is a silver lining, even if small. The firing tonight shows that UNT (or someone) cares about UNT football. I've read several times that Dan wouldn't be fired because of money, and I believe this was true in the past. Apparently now it isn't, and it show's there is still hope for the mean green. Gmg
