  1. Being a staffer under RV is one of the easiest jobs in sports. May not pay too much, but what you don't get in money, you get in job security.
  2. Oh, I'm all for finger pointing, just at the right people.
  3. At any cost? Even heat exhaustion? People leave early everywhere in games like that. It's worse in stadiums without beer.
  4. Wrong. Blame CUSA and the TV partners, in this case, Fox. I'm perhaps the biggest RV basher here, but I don't get how hard it is for people to understand that RV has no control over game times now that we're in CUSA. Don't like it? Let's go back to the Sun Belt where we can play Georgia State and maybe get on ESPN3 if we're lucky and get no TV revenue out of it.
  5. How about preview clips during the long TV timeouts? We don't even promote our next game sufficiently enough, let alone a TV show.
  6. And how well did all of that work out? 48 hours? Most people already have their weekend plans figured out 48 hours prior. If somebody is going to Mean Green Sports, they most likely already know about the game. The point is to get new fans engaged. Did anybody already not involved with the athletic department hear about these things?
  7. Before the game, the concourse TVs that were working were running full screen team logos, however it stayed our logo for only 5 seconds compared to 15 seconds on the SMU logo. So there was a damn mustang on every concourse TV most of the time before the game started.
  8. Yup, and the Enron logo is still bad.
  9. Screw SMU, they had their band there, leave that to them. The big interception in the first half needed the fight song, not slow Fly Like an Eagle.
  10. Great win. But I must go on a rant about marketing and promotions. It should come as no surprise that attendance was this low. Did anybody see any creative ideas from the AD to sell this game? Anybody? Definitely not that robo call that pretty much went only to people who knew about the game anyway. 11am is a piss poor excuse. Every team that has a respectable conference TV deal has to work with 11am games. Anybody notice how long it took before the first promo for Thursday night's game to air on the video board? Early in the 3rd quarter. When fans are still at concessions and after many fans already left the stadium. On top of that the promo was just a 5 second tag on the weak generic ticket commercial. Thursday night's game should have been hammered home all day in the stadium. We'll get the usual 15,000 or so fans to come out, but what about all the other casual fans that were there today? Do many of those people have any clue that we play on Thursday night? At this rate we'll be lucky for get 17k for Thursday. There is so much dead air in the game presentation, no music, no band, generic logo on the video board (rant for another day), why wasn't that time used to promote the living hell out of Thursday night's game? Why not a little promotion for the fans in attendance and say "our ticket office is open now and during today's game all tickets for Thursday night are buy one get one free", or are we scared of pissing off what few season ticket holders we have? Driving home I saw a rotating billboard on 35 for Thursday's game. I couldn't get past where it said La Tech vs North Texas before it changed. How many, or how few, people can read all of the information on our billboards before it changes? How about we switch the permanent green light to greatness or above the rest or whatever dumb slogan we have on the permanent billboards and make them football promos? Relegate the dumb generic UNT ads to the rotating billboards. RV and his ol' pal marketing director from So Miss haven't figured it out in their 12, 13 how ever many years they've been here. Their inability to execute the basics will continue to shoot us in the feet until they're gone. Until then, we'll hear more blaming of the public and "these things sell themselves."
  11. More blaming the public. That has worked so well for our athletic department in the RV era.
  12. Why does he need a retention bonus? It's not like his phone is ringing off the hook from other schools.
  13. Football, men's basketball and women's basketball are considered the big 3.
  14. If you want proof that this place is fine with mediocrity look no further: RV has been here since April of 2001. During his tenure here, the big 3 sports have a combined record of 441-503, good for a .467 winning percentage. 13 years, .467 winning percentage. Break it down to football, RV has a .379 winning percentage. I'm tired of blaming coaches. I blame the one that hires them.
  15. Well, last year our basketball coach earned another year with a mediocre 16-16 record and the full support of our AD who continues to bash players.
  16. That's the problem. They just expect things to happen and they don't want to put in the hard work of actually selling tickets. They depend on the small choir here to bring a few friends, yet they have the power to reach many more people. Things like this sell themselves right?
  17. ding, ding, ding
  18. The problem isn't pathetic fans, it's that we have very few fans period.
  19. The stadium looks like their team, incomplete.
  20. CBS Sports Network
  21. Bollocks. Compare the basketball photo to the photo of our football team captains. http://instagram.com/p/sEIk4epmis/
  22. Doesn't work like that. Maybe Sinclair will come up with some type of streaming option on their own.
  23. Very good, those were the Sinclair games. Dandy Killeen is the Executive Sports Producer at channels 11/21 and a UNT alum, happy to have alumni in high places.
  24. And people said Tony Mitchell never looked like he wanted to be here... They look like they're about to be featured in the next ISIS video.
  25. Watching some games back from last season, I have 1 suggestion from a stadium atmosphere point of view. Whenever we get a big 3rd down stop or turnover, the fight song should be played. Most of the time in these situations, they play Fly like an Eagle, and it doesn't fit well when the crowd is all standing and cheering. The fight song is a great song and should be played more. Not saying we have to be like OU and play it after every play, but our defense deserves to have it played when they come up big on 3rd down or with a turnover. Now, what's the band director's email so I can send this suggestion over?
