If they play 4 quarters against a FBS opponent it will be their first. They're getting closer but they aren't there yet. Now I will admit that UTEP and Rice are lower rated on paper but DON'T ignore them (and I don't believe that we will).

Attendance, considering what's at stake, should be 30,000 give or take. Actual tickets sold and distributed will be 23,500. Actual butts in seats, which aren't published, somewhere around 20K.

No, you didn't read it wrong. That was our record in 1947. Although that was a year of the 10 game schedule you were allowed to play an 11th game if it was against a service team. This was a carryover from playing army and navy installations during World War II. We played Brooke Army Medical Center that year and beat them 44-0. We were 10-1 during the regular season, losing only to Arkansas (12-0). We also lost to Nevada in the Salad Bowl in Phoenix. My first time ever to attend a North Texas game was during that season. I had just moved to Denton from Louisiana for my senior year. I saw the homecoming game against Houston which we won 33-0. There were about 12,000 in attendance in a stadium that supposedly held around 10,000. I was a part of the SRO crowd. North Texas had about 5,000 students and Denton's previous census was about 12,000. The highways to both Dallas and Fort Worth were 2-lane death traps so not very many attended from either. Sad, but if had continued to have that percentage of support from both the college community and the city we might very well be in the Big 12.

There was no way to find a competent coach and staff in that short amount of time. We also would've lost our best player regardless. And, we would have still had to pay Benford's last year PLUS that of the new coach.
-
Right now I believe that the only ones that might be interested in commitments are on teams that will not be involved in a playoff, which is likely a very limited number. However, with the early signing period going into effect, there should begin some movement as teams are eliminated.

Quotes from players - no energy, no excitement
GrayEagle replied to Big E's topic in Mean Green Football
No, the offense was bad last night but the defense was horrible. At the end of the day the offense is still #16 nationally. That's conference title, bowl game, type performance. The defense, on the other hand, is now ranked #110 and the offense won't be able to cover that type of inefficiency much longer if they still maintain hopes of any type of conference title/bowl game. When a defense gives up 800 yards to a similarly ranked team that's equivalent to not even showing up and letting the reserves play instead. In fact, I'm not convinced that the second team couldn't have done better. All of the defensive coaches should be put on notice that there will be considerable improvement between now and the end of the season or expect to be replaced. -
La Tech vs Southern Miss & Other CUSA scores?
GrayEagle replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Southern Miss survives 34-27 in 2OT. -
I wish they'd pull every defensive starter and put in the seconds or thirds that would at least give effort. How can they do any worse? Every drive results in a score.
-
I thought that I wouldn't see this poor of a performance with this coaching staff and these players. They obviously weren't prepared and regardless of second half performance have been humiliated. This doesn't mean that NT can't win the division but I believe that the conference championship is out of the question. We see how weak and vulnerable this team can be. I do agree with Cerberus that both the offense and the defense must show up the second half and make up some of the 34 point halftime deficit if this team is to get back on course. So far, we aren't doing that. My worst fear is that they've lost a lot of fans for the next game. Our culture is too fragile after too many seasons of losing to overcome our degree of apathy.

Also, don't forget redshirt Greg White.

Record Fundraising Year for Athletics Department
GrayEagle replied to dmaxel's topic in Mean Green Football
For those of you that complained about the hiring of Martin, Mosley and Peck you can see how that is paying for itself. And, I believe that it will get better as they establish more new donors. You normally get what you pay for and Wren knew what he was getting. -
Upon further review....it is a Fox Sports Southwest channel. On my Frontier screen it shows the logo with the description 'FSDAHD'. The FS stands for Fox Sports and the HD stands for high definition; not sure what the DA is for. Anyway, it's the same channel that it's been shown on which is 576 on Frontier. In short, same channel different day and time.

Beyond The Green has been moved from 4:30 on Thursday to 2:00 Friday, at least for this week and probably for the rest of the year. Our old time slot was taken by the TCU sports show. It's still on Fox Sports 1? (not FSSW)

Just in case Jalen Guyton is a descendant of Samson, they better not touch a hair on his head. We don't need no stinkin' barber!

We'll see collectively how good we are at prognosticating. The average of all predictions was 25,026 with the caveat that a couple or so went over capacity. I cut those back to 30,850 because the excess were still partying on the hill and wouldn't make it inside the stadium.
-
What is the capacity of the Club Level?
-
I'll take 24,368, Chuck. Let those who want to watch Texas-OU record it and watch it later (after they get home from Apogee).
-
The latest North Texan confirms that a "$16 million indoor practice facility, (is) expected to break ground in 2018 south of Apogee Stadium. It will feature a full football practice field along with 10 additional yards for skill work. Track and field athletes will have their own sprint lanes. Netting and lighting will help make it a multi-purpose space for other teams." I also read that the Athletic weight room will be expanded as well as offices in the (Athletic) building south of the current facility to connect with the IPF. These will be great recruiting tools and if we continue to win should put us to the forefront of G5 recruiting.

The replacement for Trevor Moore is already on the roster. His name is Zack Williams from Louisville KY. He is a Kicking World All-American. He appears to be close to Moore in ability. Trevor has had 112 straight PATs and Williams hit 84 of 85 in high school. He also has a tremendous leg for kickoffs.

What UAB Fans Are Saying About What UNT Fans Are Saying
GrayEagle replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
As I recall there were 100-200 UAB supporters when they played here in 1995. They do have some alums in the DFW area so I expect about that number for Saturday's matchup. -
Different people are impressed by different things. What impressed me was the passing competition that was shown as hitting the equivalent of a paper cup from at least 20 yards away after completing footwork. Mason finally beat Quinn after tying during the regular competition. An earlier competition had quarterbacks throwing over the crossbar from more than 40 yards away. I like the development of passers with strong and accurate arms.

You are wrong. SMU's opponent last week (SFA) and Lamar are in the SAME conference.

Wyche was dressed out and on the sidelines but I don't believe that he played.
