  1. I am intrigued by Zacchaeus McKinney from Weatherford and I'd bet that FFR is as well. I believe that defensive tackle is our greatest need at present; especially if Novil doesn't return.
  2. If he was on a one-year contract, fire him on the expiration date. If two year, fire him as soon as the buyout and a replacement can be arranged.
  3. Obviously we have to win to make a contribution to a successful conference and I believe that we will. But, the other teams in the conference have to be successful as well and all/most of the better CUSA teams are floundering. As I see it, the conference needs to reduce travel expenses or reorganize with the best (teams, markets, attendance, facilities, etc. in the same league similar to what the AAC did to some of us and make a new conference with the better teams from CUSA and the SBC. My choices for the new conference would be Marshall, Appalachian State, Troy, Florida Atlantic, UAB, Southern Miss, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Rice, North Texas, UTSA and Arkansas State. The first six would be the East Division and the latter six the West. All have 30,000 seat stadiums, 20,000+ average attendance. Most have been in the FBS for at least 20 years, are in decent size markets, and have good facilities. Most are or have been competitive and I believe will be again. Since eight would be from the current CUSA we might be able to retain that name. If not, choose something classy like the National Athletic Conference. PS: Also a new commissioner.
  4. If you made that in to one league that number would be unprecedented since the old Southern Conference. That might spread it too thin. I would rather see two conferences. The East, Atlantic, or whatever would consist of Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia down to Florida and the other would be Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. The East might consist might consist of WKU, MTSU, Marshall, Old Dominion, Charlotte, App State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Florida Atlantic, FIU and also Liberty. South would then be Troy, South Alabama, UAB, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Louisiana, La Tech, North Texas, Texas State, Rice, UTSA and UTEP. I wouldn't want to take ULM; it has the smallest budget in the FBS and would put them and LaTech in the same small market. That would make two 12-team conferences which I think works best. An alternative would be that we (West) take WKU AND MTSU but then the East would only have ten teams with only JMU offered a possible promotion. We would still be the weakest conference but I don't think by that much. We'd get three pretty competitive teams in Arky State, Troy and LaLa and I believe that you would see improvement in Texas State since they would have other Texas football teams for competition.
  5. I still think that we are better than the MAC but it's obvious that we aren't as good as the SBC, at least at the top.
  6. Sorry, but he has thrown 6 passes, completed 5 for 2 touchdowns. He has a passing rating of 206.93.
  7. Well, Jim, if you are not an oldtimer you should be getting close. But, as a 1957 graduate (originally Class of '52) I believe that I qualify. Four years in the Navy and a change of majors account for the five year gap. I have to agree that the tall, skinny NT is probably my least favorite helmet design. I didn't even like it in the Joe Greene era but at least the jerseys and pants were more of that era and it seemed to fit to some degree. It's not that I don't like the superimposed 'NT' it's just that it doesn't go with that style helmet. I do like superimposed 'NTs'...for example the alumni association and the Rod Rust era circular look good to me. I'm not overwhelmed with the diving eagle but it's as good as we have for now. And let's not do the throwback every game. Maybe homecoming but that should be all.
  8. FWIW DC Texas Football lists his 40 speed at 4.5. On some of his runs it looks like he's clipped at least a tenth off of that. Hell, maybe he has run a 3.3!
  9. I hope so. I wasn't overly impressed with him at DE but I think that he could be really good at a rush LB spot. Another plus is that he comes from a good, well-coached program.
  10. If we can get him focused and staying here he could be a steal. He had a combined rating of .8812 out of high school which is even higher than Caleb Johnson. Now if Datraveon Brown and Simpson can reach their potential think of a receiving corps of Jackson, Johnson, Brown and Simpson. With a highly efficient quarterback they could be the best in the nation.
  11. No, that's running back Keith Jackson. ☺️
  12. I agree about the salary disparity but I disagree that UAB had two years of nothing. While they didn't play any games during those two years, they added players and were allowed to practice. When they returned in 2018 they were a well-oiled, cohesive unit. And, yes, I believe that Bill Clark is the best coach in the conference but he came from the FCS and was given a pretty good raise upon entering the FBS. Littrell, on the other hand, came from P5s and head coach should be a promotion and a raise. He had back-to-back nine win seasons and three consecutive bowls so increase in pay was warranted. Only the last raise (designed to keep him here) has turned bad (so far). At least, if he fails next year he will leave with rooms of 3* players; far better than he inherited.
  13. YAHOO!!! I realize that we have a lot of offensive linemen but I think that this one can be exceptional. He comes from one of two Denton schools with the most talent. We have gotten a few good Ryan players but the good Guyer players seem to have wanted to leave town. I hope that is the proverbial "foot in the door" for UNT. Thank you, Coach Bloesch.
  14. That's true. But we are 28th in points scored and 124th in scoring defense (3 from the bottom). If we had a defense anywhere near the capability of the offense we would likely have only one loss.
  15. Correct. They are in the WAC.
  16. In addition, we pick up Farrell who is likely better than any lineman that we currently have (and I believe that Bloesch will make him even better).
  17. Brett Vito picked us to win and the board went silent.
  18. I agree on LeBlanc but isn't Morris the backup at BS? I can't see anything beyond Gaddie and I'm not a subscriber of the Record-Chronicle.
  19. Notice that the 1992 recipient was none other than our fearless leader, Harry Miers. Belated congratulations on that distinguished honor.
  20. 247 is showing him at 6'4", 298. He has no composite rating yet but 247 rates him an 82.
  21. I can answer where their players are from. The vast majority are from Texas and Oklahoma with Texas having the larger number. The only other state with significant numbers is California. Tulsa is a private school with great academics but with the smallest number of undergraduate students in the FBS. They have a pretty large endowment but are losing significantly with their athletic programs. Tulsa spends about $2 million more per annum than we do but their administration makes up about a $7 million dollar deficit and we have about a million dollar surplus. We average roughly 5,000 more in average attendance currently. Lastly, the AAC may not be P6 but they are G1.
  22. So, will Homecoming be pushed forward to December 3 or Rice day and time moved? Or...will Homecoming be cancelled for this year? Or...have it during basketball season?
  23. Has there been any word on the Hawaii Tournament. Cancelled or rescheduled?
  24. https://247sports.com/Player/EJ-Ndoma-Ogar-88233/#evaluation Speaking of being pickier, I ran across an offensive lineman that is currently at OU and opted for the transfer portal just a few days ago. He is projected to be a fourth to seventh round draft pick by 247. He was a 2019 recruit so he'd have (I think) four years of eligibility left. He was a four-star recruit and a high school all-american. He is from Allen. He has supposedly had good coaching and I believe that Coach Bloesch would be an asset for him. Just a thought.
  25. 247 shows him as 6'1" and 190 lbs. If he can put on about 30 lbs. with the speed that he has he has a chance to become a real asset. I'd leave him at LB until he proves that he can't do it. His film as a Jr. shows primarily offense but the few defense plays that were on film shows that he hits with authority.
