  1. Wow! A 20-team league stretching from Lubbock to Ames IA to Philadelphia to Greenville NC to Memphis TN to Houston to Lubbock.
  2. I trust Sporting News on baseball but football is a little out of their league. I question that they consider transfer portals or coaching changes. Anyway, I'd rather be underrated and appear to improve greatly than to be overrated and seem to fall flat.
  3. I didn't see a magazine that knocked our offense. In spite of the loss of our consensus All-American receiver they all praised the offense. The success of North Texas football depends on the defense. I firmly believe that we will be improved with Bennett running the defense but is it enough to keep the current staff? Only time will tell.
  4. Or maybe it's Kevin Wood. That's his height, weight, and home town under Gabriel's name.
  5. I believe that he decided that he would be happier and contribute more if he played offense. He has several FCS offers and might very well take one of those to play offense.
  6. I hope that Mason can make the squad but I hear that Saskatchewan just signed former Denver first round pick Paxton Lynch.
  7. I can except this ranking also but I sure won't accept it.
  8. My prediction is that we are no less than third in the CUSA West. I believe that the offense will be =/> than last year. Aune will show some improvement over last year when he was one of the best in the country. He was 26th in the nation in passing rating in spite of only a 55% completion average. While losing our best receiver in our history, he is being replaced by the highest rated (247 combined) receiver in our history and another who originally had a combined rating of .8812 when coming out of high school. We return outstanding receiver Deonte Simpson and a healthy Jy'aire Shorter. The defense will be vastly improved because they couldn't be worse than last year. First, we have a real Defensive Coordinator who has had success at that position. Second, we will have a four-man line which will deter double-teaming Dion Novil and give the improving Murphy twins, McCrae, Enoch Jackson and others a chance to contribute. Linebacking will be improved as last year's starters return and the emergence of Jordan Brown and Jacobi Johnson. Special teams will be improved as Mooney returns to 2019 form. Rodriguez is an effective rugby style punter and a traditional punter is on the way. Coverage teams should be better as that was the specialty of several transfers. The most valuable improvement will come from the coaches and the spirit of those that are transferring in. They are winners and will give their best effort.
  9. We have 40,000 students. Approximately 6,000 attend football games. The student side is seldom very full and it's seldom that the wing section is 10% full. As an alum I don't feed off of the energy of the students. Okay, maybe I don't need to because I've been at this for so many years. Many alums do need this inspiration, however. I believe that many who do attend as students and stay in the area are incentivized to attend as alums. That's a reason for attendance by more students. The more exposure; the better chance it will take. Kansas State and Iowa State had near full houses during seasons when they had terrible teams. We need that type of loyalty. You're right about basketball. As well as this team has done in the last few years and the number of people within ten miles of the Super Pit, there is no reason why we can't have sellouts for at least conference games. Remember, we lost Hayden Fry because of lack of support. Let's not let it happen again.
  10. I think that "Haha", "Confused" or "Eye Roll" would have been equally appropriate.
  11. This is perhaps the most heartening article that I've read regarding the future of North Texas football. I especially liked Coach Hill's comment about Seth and Luke building a powerhouse in Denton. I am impressed with the work of Luke Walerius. He is beginning to amass a boatload of talent at North Texas (with the help of the coaching staff.) He doesn't get enough praise for his analyses, presentations or ability to work with coaches. If we can improve the culture of our student body by getting them at football (and basketball games) so that we are at or near capacity for each game I can see us as contenders for the upper echelon of the G5s.
  12. What gives? It only shows two offers on 247 and the posting Monday indicates 13 offers. It doesn't even show our offer. He also hasn't been rated.
  13. And...he spent an hour with Seth recently and should have all of the updates.
  14. I would dearly love to see 10,000 or more students at each home game and fill the rest with alumni.
  15. Austin Aune had the highest Passing Rating in CUSA last year. I used Passing Rating instead of yardage because some quarterbacks only had seven games and one had twelve games.
  16. I'm sure that they will share; I was just pointing the talent that is available. The usage is up to Tommy Mainord. I have been pleased with Coach Mainord. He has developed several good receivers each year. I feel sure that he will give adequate playing time to the best receivers but he has enough depth to keep fresh legs when necessary.
  17. I know that we will still be screwed but I do believe that it will result in the G5s getting a little (probably should have been Italicized) more money and could be a foot in the door for more equalization or Baker and Littrell wouldn't have signed off on it.
  18. This, on paper, is the best group of receivers that we have ever had and likely the best among the G5 teams. We have nine 3 star receivers and several walk-ons that could also contribute if given the chance. Looking at it from their best 247 combined averages, here's our receiving corps: .9222 Tommy Bush ...the tallest (6-5) and among our fastest receivers. The highest rated receiver in our history with 247. .8817 Bryce Jackson...I believe that he was the best receiver in the spring scrimmage and caught several with the defender hanging all over him. .8796 Caleb Johnson...the rating is for cornerback but he also is an outstanding receiver. I believe that we got the Oklahoma commitment because he wanted to play wide receiver. .8519 De'Traveon Brown...was redshirted last year after choosing UNT over about nine other offers (including La Tech). .8499 Deonte Simpson...our leading returning receiver, and was second only to Darden last year. .8356 Loronzo Thompson...was pressured into service as a defensive back last year. This year he will be returned to wide receiver where he excels. .8336 Damon Ward...was injured when he came here but has recuperated and played in the spring scrimmage. .8315 Zhighlil McMillian...was the only receiver that committed and stuck with us throughout the recruiting process. He'll likely be red-shirted this year after the influx of transfers, flip and recoveries. .8185 Jyaire Shorter...was hurt in his third game and sat out the rest of the season. He didn't score a touchdown but had four long catches. His lower rating could have been due to that rating was at tight end where he was on the smallish side. We have several that were not rated who I believe could be contributors if they get a chance. Roderic Burns was actually the fourth leading receiver last year and has contributed well when called upon. Finn Corwin walked on at Oklahoma last year and transferred to North Texas this spring. I remember one very nice catch that he made in the spring scrimmage.
  19. Prayers for Mitch, his family and the medical team administering treatment. You are loved by all of the Mean Green faithful who knew you, saw you play, or heard of your accomplishments.
  20. The gazebo was located behind what is now the Auditorium Building (formerly the Administration Building).
  21. Very good, Jim. I guess that once you've been a recruiter, you just can't totally give it up.
  22. Chad is no longer at Arkansas. He is now the head coach at Allen. We would be glad to have some of those as well.
  23. I assume that you are referring to Jace Ruder. It's my understanding that he won't be here until early August as he graduates from UNC after this summer. I believe that he will work on his Master's here. I don't think that there's any worry. He's indicated in several posts that he will be here.
  24. What is the purpose of this gathering? Is it a mini-camp? Is it an orientation? Will this session be of short duration and everyone reports in early August?
  25. By comparison, he is almost identical in size to Upton Stout, who looked the best of our defensive backs last year.
