Score Prediction, Mean Green Eagles V uab
GrayEagle replied to Cooke County Kid's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT 27 UAB 21 -
I believe that it's because there only 14 teams, so two of them are going to come up short. I believe that if there were 16 teams each would have a four team partner. Tulane and Tulsa only play each other three times in four years because they are last alphabetically and farthest apart of all the pairs.

South Florida fires head coach Jeff Scott

I seriously doubt that they'll hire another coach that doesn't have head coaching experience. I hope when the time comes that we'll do the same. -
That's a Not Exactly. We have about 400,000 alumni scattered over the world including all fifty states and about 100 foreign countries. About seven years ago there were about 300 in New York City and Brooklyn. I didn't check the Greater New York area but it wouldn't surprise me if there were not another 100 or so around Long Island, Westchester, Yonkers, White Plains, etc.

If Seth beats UAB on the road should he be extended?

Until someone points out the fact that they have been in five under this coach and haven't won any. -
Here we go again? Conference Changes?
GrayEagle replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't believe that the USC-UCLA move has been totally approved. USC is a private school and I believe that their Board of Regents equivalent has already approved their move. However, as I understand it the UCLA move is not official yet. The hangup is there is a common Board for Cal-Berkeley and UCLA and the members would like to keep them in the same conference. It could be that whatever UCLA gains by going to B1G, Cal loses if they stay in the Pac-12. I'm fed up with the power conferences monopolizing TV money. Just my opinion but I think that no conference should have more than 16 teams; preferably 14. At least the AAC are in better shape than the other G5s thanks to Commissioner Aresco. We won't share to same extent as the current members that are staying but in the long run we will. I believe that Mike Aresco was clever in that he chose major markets for the expansion. ESPN and CBS will be a pleasure after Stadium and other lesser networks. I feel badly for LaTech but maybe we can schedule them every other year or so. -
If we should be fortunate to win the conference championship we would be going to the New Orleans Bowl to face the Sun Belt winner...likely Coastal Carolina. If we should possibly lose again to UTSA we would probably go to the New Mexico Bowl again. If their goal is to win a bowl game frankly they would be a little better off to go to Albuquerque again. I must admit however, that I'm more juiced to deprive the Roadrunners of a championship again.

I don't think that Paul Quinn has enough friends to be competitive.

Why try to runup the score when you can give the bench some valuable playing time?

Yes, he does and brings his family. Personally, I don't think that it is the Mayor's job to promote parades. Now if he prevented them from happening then I'd agree. The person that harmed the football interest was Al Hurley. We were Division 1-A but the NCAA issued the "mandate" that to remain at that level we had to have a stadium of 30,000. Chancellor Hurley admitted that he may well have been killing North Texas football but that he was taking the money that would have been used to enlarge the stadium and spent it on improved curriculum and professors. We were then dropped to Division 1-AA. Sure enough, interest and attendance dried up. I was so mad that I boycotted the program the first year. I eventually came back though but few did. We suffered through twelve long years of the Southland Conference before Fouts Field was enlarged. Still, the only increase in interest was when we joined the Missouri Valley Conference and our time under Hayden Fry as an independent. Next year is the time to raise student interest. Most of the conference will be familiar as I believe that we have played everyone but Temple. The difference is that the AAC was considered the premier G5 conference. It is said that that the American Athletic Conference will receive two spots in the expanded playoff system. We, at least, have a chance to be a National Champion!

The thing is...Richards would never have been at Division II if he was the size he is now at the time of high school graduation. He has made himself into a FBS athlete. A-Mazin!

I believe that there is an organization that is capable of perpetuating the spirit and traditions...it's called the Talons. It needs to be larger though in my opinion. The largest group should be the spirit group, much on the order of the basketball Maniacs. I can see them taking up an entire lower section next to the band. Let them wear T-shirts that say Talons on the front. Let a leader of the Talons appear at the indoctrination boot camp to try to recruit incoming freshman students (or transfer students). The louder they can yell, the better. They should be ambassadors of UNT to the student body. Teach them the traditions. Maybe they should be responsible for lighting the tower. As many as possible should be on the first row to high-five the players at the end of the game. The Talons should not be limited to males. Females are welcome; the more the merrier. Have a fund-raiser to cover the cost of the T-shirts. Or, worst case scenario they might have to purchase their own the first year. Keep the cannon crew. Since the Model A can't circle the field, I don't see much need for the vehicle being more than a showpiece. Although if you could get a loud oogah horn and sound it off after every score it could add a little celebration. The thing is to get as many involved as you possibly can and it will perpetuate itself. It's fun!

Landis is not chopped liver. He was first team running back on the Class 6A All-State team in 2020.

Isn't it supposed to be pouring rain on Friday night? I've heard that they are moving area games from Friday to Thursday.

Winning the NCAA Tournament would be a plus.

He could be a star at Tarleton. I wouldn't pursue.

I count 11 that likely won't be back next season. The most questionable is John Davis who was a senior but should qualify for another year due to injury. I don't know if he wants to move on or not but I hope that he doesn't. He and Texada would be stout corners. In addition, it wouldn't surprise me if four or five move to the transfer portal.

'24 S Offer: Tito Williams; Cleveland, TN: No Rating
GrayEagle replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Sounds good so far. Ole Miss already has 13 safeties. Unless you want to get beat up, you don't choose Vanderbilt (unless you want a first-class education). -
Navy will likely be in the West again because they combine their football with Wichita State which has all of the non-football sports. If they played in the East someone in the west would have to shift east in basketball and the other Olympic sports.
