  2. I don't believe that he will sneeze at the half-million dollar raise and to be back in Texas. It's more attractive than many due to the improving facilities and fertile recruiting ground. If he succeeds in making a contender every year of UNT in the American Conference then he'll be high on Tech's list when it comes time to replace their head coach. We used to laugh at the AAC being referred to as the Power 6 conference. Losing the three best teams might take a little luster off of that statement but if the potential of several of the ones added reaches fruition, the conference could return to prominence again.
  3. Well, he is up next but he needs a staff and a lot of recruiting before spring training.
  4. The Eternal Optimist Boise Cascade 28 Mean Green 31
  5. Do you think that he'll take any of the players from UIW or will Kinne get the best of the lot?
  6. Does he just have one season left?
  7. Well, he is the football coach. He won't have any trouble with Grant or Rodney spreading the enthusiasm. The new track coach landed here with the same enthusiasm. Also likely for the volleyball coach. I am a little concerned about women's basketball, soccer, and tennis beginning to look a little tired. Enthusiasm is catching though so though with the major sports leading the way it's likely to spread to every sport.
  8. If the new coach was a head coach I'd say that's true. But if he was a coordinator at a P5 going to a G5, I doubt that we could pay them enough to relocate. Granted he could contact some coaches that he's worked with before who aren't making as much as we could pay him but I haven't heard what the amount of the assistant pool is. He can likely retain most of the staff if he pleases; possibly give some small raises this year. Next year, it may depend on the economy.
  9. I used to feel the same way about Vito. But, he largely followed what was actually happening with our football team. We had a lot of naysayers here who were more realists than being hypercritical about how good we really were. The only exception that I can recall was the five game winning streak at the end of last year. Then what happens? We had what should have been as much of a sure thing as any bowl opponent we've had. We all know what happened. Outwardly, Morris is the opposite of Seth. Inwardly, I'm hopeful that he'll improve on Seth's good qualities and throw in some wrinkles of his own. I keep getting more excited about this hire as I hear something new about his past. Also, you'll never hear me referring to him as Elf. If he's as successful as I think that he'll be, I don't believe much bad from Vito. Maybe we'll all start calling him Santa.
  10. Not sure about this but it was reported that he will start at 1.2 million
  11. I didn't know of his accomplishments but after learning I think that he may be the man for the job. The only drawback that I see now may be recruiting. If he can find a quarterback to run the Mike Leach system, I believe that he will succeed. If success comes soon, the recruiting should improve rapidly. I'll admit when I first heard of the hire I was underwhelmed but the more I learn about him, the more optimistic I become.
  12. My guess is that it was money with Fuente. He would likely have wanted $2.5-3 million for openers. In addition, his salary could have reduced his buyout that he's receiving from Virginia Tech.
  13. My guess is that it was money with Fuente. He would likely have wanted $2.5-3 million for openers.
  14. Yes, for about nine different teams. But, he had a pretty good career. I'm wondering why the rumor wasn't to SMU. That's where his dad played.
  15. My favorite of those listed is Justin Fuente. He might cost a few bucks more but I believe he's worth it. He's only 46 and would still have the energy to motivate the team. As an ex-quarterback maybe he could restore Gunnell to his old form. I don't remember who was on his coaching staff at Virginia Tech but hopefully most are gainfully employed and he will keep Cobbs and Clements and hire a couple of our exes as position coaches. The only other candidate on the revealed list that would move my needle very much is Riley. I could live with that.
  16. He might be a good golf coach but I don't want him as a football coach. Hell no to kenny perry!
  17. I liked Darrell when he was here but he burned the bridge with the cheap black jerseys (that he paid for) in his final game.
  18. I do not understand how this can happen. Of course, back in the day for many of us the NCAA required a stadium of 30,000 and attendance average of 17,000. The 30,000 seat requirement prevented us from remaining in the top classification because our administration refused to fund the Fouts expansion for roughly twelve years. Others at that time virtually ignored those requirements; especially those in the MAC. The NCAA eventually lowered the attendance requirement to a 15,000 average once in two rolling years. Apparently they ignore stadium requirement altogether. Of the 9 colleges listed above based on last year's attendance figures, NONE had averages of 15,000. Only two, Eastern Kentucky and Tarleton State had attendance averages of more than 10,000 and both had averages of 12,000+. Only three of the stadiums have the capacity for an attendance of 15,000. Eastern Kentucky has the largest stadium at 20,000. SFA says that they can accomodate 25,000 by using the hill. In other words, NONE should qualify for the FBS.
  19. I have my finger on every dial for one or more teams in the... NFL Dallas Cowboys; guess I'll start watching the Cleveland Browns next year P5 Texas, TCU, SMU, Baylor, LSU, Auburn (these are all alma maters of kinfolk) G5 North Texas and any AAC games that I can find FCS None High school playoff games
  20. Sounds like you ruled out about every successful B1G coach. Remember nine of their games were against conference foes and the other games are likely against two P5 teams and usually only one against a G5.
  21. Maybe, if the AD is hired first, then they can blame him if the coach doesn't work out.
  22. We can do a little but if we get commits they likely won't be binding until the new head coach is chosen.
  23. True; but at some point is not now. If can keep building the running game (as he has here) in the AAC, he will build his resume. He is loyal enough to return here, if all things are equal, when he has built that resume.
  24. For now, the interim AD is the AD. Wren and Mosely worked together and I feel comfortable that Mosely will make the right decision except that he would have to work with Neal to determine the amount of salary that he could pay.
  25. I hope that it's pronto. Somewhere around the time of the Frisco Bowl. The first priority is beating Boise. The second priority is to finish recruiting for 2023. I'm not quite as concerned about recruiting, however, because I think that Walerus does a helluva job.
