10 Offensive Skill Players That You Should Know
GrayEagle replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Now there's the old Emmitt that we know and love. I thought that you had been a little soft on SMU lately. Glad to see that you're back on the job. -
Vito - Mitchell Update - He's Enrolled
GrayEagle replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Basketball
MY BAD! Yes, I did mean Jarion Henry, Jordan Williams teammate at Kimball. Next time I'll look it up to be sure. Thanks for catching my error. -
We don't know that he necessarily needs tutors. The reason that he lacks the passed core curriculum is that he went to an unaccredited prep school in Miami as a junior. I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe that he has failed courses. It appears that he has made an acceptable score on the SAT/ACT and had a high enough grade point average to graduate from high school. So what if the news was premature? Sometimes you go with your gut feeling. Vito did that and everyone is now quoting him and the Denton Record-Chronicle because he has the story. Accept his good fortune.

The Mitchell News Has Made It To Missouri
GrayEagle replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I hope so too, but I'd rather have him for say two years than not at all. The fact that he played here will help future recruiting. -
It looks like we're moving from a "beer" program to a "w(h)ine" program.

When it was free we had to buy our own food and drink (lately). I assume that the food is included in the price so that doesn't make it so bad. I doubt that Holiday Inn charged for the room if the AD bought food and allows the motel to operate the cash bar.

I'll be terribly surprised if his salary doesn't increase 50-100% in his first year on the job. It's also possible that he might have some incentives that we don't know about. He is simply too valuable to not be taken care of.

Tomorrow Could Be A Very Good Day In Unt Land
GrayEagle replied to Adub4ever's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
How about a donor for naming rights to the stadium? That would be outstanding. -
Sort of. Williams used the words "may" and "likely" and you bit and ran with it. True, he implied that he had inside sources but if he did his "sources" didn't know what they were talking about. He couldn't lose. If he's right he's a hero because he was the first one to say it. If he's wrong then it was all his sources fault.

Great find! He sounds as if he'd make a great U-Back. Or wide receiver. Or safety. Or tight end. Or wildcat quarterback. Or.. Justin Gaines = Shelton Gandy on steroids

Now do you see why Carl Matthews stonewalled attempts to form a Mean Green (actually Eagle) Club back when he was president in the 50s?

I'm Just Not As Confident As Some Of You

What he said. -
I don't know which they'll choose because there are several factors. Houston has the larger TV market by about 600,000hh but they would have to share some of that with Rice (if only Houston teams are considered) whereas UCF has the Orlando market alone. UCF has the larger facilities; 12,000 more seats in their football stadium and a couple of thousand more in their basketball arena. South Florida also needs a travel partner and UCF would fill that bill. Florida is almost as fertile a recruiting ground as Texas with three less state schools for competition. Houston has had the stronger teams in the past but UCF won CUSA last year and has shown a lot of improvement. It's just too close to call. However, when the Big East goes to 12 teams then I believe that whichever is not selected on the first increase will be selected on the second (assuming that TCU is still a part of the Big East). By the way, Fort Worth is going to have to change their sobriquet from "Where the West Begins" to "Where the East Leaves Off."

Defensive Lineman From Pilot Point To Consider
GrayEagle replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I hate to throw cold water on the fire but please, not another defensive end. That's a really loaded position unless and until some grow into a tackle. I'm pretty sure Ace won't. -

If North Texas Has No Interest Or Chance For Mwc...
GrayEagle replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
It would behoove you to go back and read Grand Green's post again. The truth is at the moment we are not ready to advance to either the MWC or CUSA. Many items are in place....facilities, coaching staff, soon to be increased budget, and administrative support. However, there are other things that we need to know such as what will our attendance be, will the increase in donors be enough to keep the program moving forward, will we have a winning season to validate our improved coaching staff, can we rely on continued support from our president and BOR, etc. In other words we haven't proven anything other than our student body is willing to help support the program financially and that we are willing to use sources that can help advance our cause. I'd wager a considerable amount (for me) that both the MWC and CUSA know and understand our interest and intent. When we have proven ourselves worthy then we will be invited to either conference that has an opening. I believe that we find ourselves in competition with primarily three others for a spot in either league. None of those three are ready to advance either. San Jose State is deficient in several categories...attendance, power rating, and to some extent facilities. Utah State still has a poor power rating, mediocre attendance and a stadium that only holds a little more than 25,000. Louisiana Tech, our foremost CUSA competitor, has money problems, as does the state of Louisiana. They, along with their UL partners, have the lowest operating budgets in the FBS. LaTech also shares a small market and they have mediocre attendance. There remains a possibility that as many as seven more slots above us could be filled within the next year or two. If we are ready (and I firmly believe that we will be) we should receive one of them. I believe that Lane Rawlins and Chuck Neinas will see to that. -
http://www.tvcc.edu/athletics/football/pdf/2010%20TVCC%20ROSTER.pdf Here is the roster for the 2010 Trinity Valley CC team with Chris Henderson of Dallas Carter listed. The last posting and information that I found for Chris Henderson on Scout was dated in 2008. Apparently they never updated.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Chris-Henderson-116817 As far as I know this is the Chris Henderson that was in the 2009 recruiting class from Dallas Carter. He signed with Texas A&M but I don't think that he ever played for them. It could be that he didn't qualify so he went the JC route.
-
I really like your list except please no more tight ends (we have six) or defensive ends (eight of those). Save at least a couple for JUCO defensive tackles.
-
Even the (good) May graduates are scarce. There are some quality defensive tackles that may be available and we can hope that we get a couple. Xavier Bryant - Kilgore 6-1,295 Jewel Christian - Southwest Mississippi 6-2,290 Rod Davis - Fort Scott 6-2,300 Tony Gillespie - Independence 6-2,315 Chris Henderson - Trinity Valley 6-2,295 Aaron Wallace - Independence 6-1,320 How many of these want to play FBS football is anybody's guess. This is a pretty talented group, not exceptionally tall but that's about all they lack. Any two or three of the above would really help.
-
Did you realize that in those four consecutive New Orleans Bowl trips that he won exactly two against conference foes with winning records...an 8-3 Muts team that started the streak and a 7-5 New Mexico State team. Furthermore, if Troy and Florida Atlantic had been conference members when we lost to them during that period none of it would've happened. Worse yet, the first trip was with a losing record.
-
Don't know but he's not after us. He only shows interest in Oklahoma State (don't see that happening), New Mexico and Texas State.
