  1. I don't see anything wrong with doing it the way it's planned. It goes by priority points which would pretty much exclude trying to do it on one day. You can have a proxy to try to get what's available near where you'd like to be. This is not rocket science; just go with the flow.
  2. Only JJ can answer about Johnson but personally I wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy. Loose cannons could really damage the psyche of this team.
  3. While there haven't been any greats pass through the basketball program there have been a ton of very goods. In my opinion the two best have been Kenneth Lyons and Joe Hamilton. A close third for me would be John Savage. From there, you could put about two dozen names on a dart board and do well in your selection regardless of which ones it landed on. But, from a personal standpoint, my two favorites would be Jesse Ratliff and Chris Davis because of what they meant to their respective teams. Bobby Iverson and Jim Mudd would be extremely close runnersup.
  4. Speaking of googling, enter "equity in athletics" and use the first entry which will is "ope.ed.gov./athletics/. You will have to learn to navigate the website but listed will be the revenues, expenditures and other data for all public institutions in the U.S. They are required to report these annually to the Department of Education after each June 30. An official for each college or university that operates under Title IX swears that the statement is true so they should be reliable figures. With the last report the University of Louisiana at Monroe reported total revenue of 8.320 million dollars for the period ending June 30, 2009. That's the lowest of the FBS schools and they hold that distinction every year. What's worse, when the Arkansas agreement ends soon for ULM, both revenue and attendance will hit the skids. Some minimum standards in budget and attendance should be set so that the conference continues to move forward. That would have to be done at the conference level because the NCAA will always be reluctant to enforce its attendance requirement.
  5. Argument #1 - Cost A board in the midst of the wing zone would be relatively expensive in order to be seen. In an effort to keep costs to a minimum the north end zone board was scrapped. Argument #2 - Necessity With a much larger and more complete board at the south end of the stadium the smaller board became unnecessary because 99% would be looking in that direction anyway. Argument #3 - Aesthetics A board in the middle of the wing zone would be coyote ugly and detract from the uniqueness of the special design. Argument #4 - Misconception Some would say that it was only the artist's conception of what the stadium might look like with a few bells and whistles.
  6. There is no way to have a serious conversation on this board. We are simply too cutesy and clever. Look, regardless of the forum where you find it your own intelligence should tell you that when you spend far beyond your means that you are eventually going to have to pay the piper. We can't keep printing more money to cover our debt. When half of the taxpayers are supporting the other half as well as themselves the house of cards has to eventually collapse. That's not spin. The Tea Party has the answer...live within your means. There must be some painful and serious cuts soon to get through this crisis. I hope that we have the cajones and good sense to bite the bullet.
  7. I find it hard to argue with the article. We haven't played anywhere near the schedule (strength) that Texas Tech has. If this class is as strong as I think it is our time will come.
  8. Happy Birthday SUMG One of our best Happy Birthday graybeard...err, goatee. Many more of the same.
  9. You don't have two times to make a first impression. I'd say he's history.
  10. The definitive answer is whereever they want to go as long as they can afford it. Having said that, I would hope that they would go to a university where they can not only get a good education but associate with the average American. I have never been an elitist and too many times the Ivy League schools and the top private schools students thinks that their excrement has no foul odor. They may have a ton of intelligence but little common sense. I enjoy the "upper middle" where more people seem to have more of the right values. The University of North Texas has had their share of financially successful people who made it on their own. I'm not condemning networking. It can give you opportunities that would not be available to you ever. But, I have special admiration for the man or woman who makes it on their own.
  11. Not only does he demonize Dodge he deifies Darrell R. Dickey; both of which should be dropped and move on to the current situation. If Vito can keep his emotions out of it he does a very good job.
  12. I'm sure part of that was related to the turf but it looks as if the UA shoes may have played a part as well. Not all of the foot/leg injuries occured at Fouts. Nike has been making shoes for a long time and they likely have the best going. But, if our new uniforms look anything like Oregon's I'll throw up (which I haven't done in more than 50 years).
  13. Personally, I'd rather go big, as in Dwight Miller. At 6'5" Franklin would be one of the smaller 4s in Division I. Both he and Williams appear to be small forwards that would be better at shooting guard in a pinch than at power forward. In fact, I think that Franklin should be given strong consideration as a starter at the two. We're not all that strong with the bigs. Unless they do a big turnaround Knox and Edwards are spot duty players. Robinson will be green and will have a large learning curve by coming from a small school. Mitchell will not be available until the second semester. Hogans is the only reliable player unless Holmen can somehow develop, assuming he doesn't remain a three. Big men are essential for defense and rebounding and a frontline of Hogans and Miller would give us the best chance for success.
  14. Congratulations, Micah. You have been a delight and I wish you well throughout life. I only wish that the injury bug had been a little kinder.
  15. Please let the thought of UNT only on our helmets die of solitary confinement.
  16. 3,200. If it gets decent publicity throughout Denton...3,250. If you count the tailgaters that don't come inside...5,000.
  17. Those listed for us all seem to have transferred in or left the program early so as not to be very productive here. But size does matter. Imagine Odufuwa accomplishing his double-doubles at 6'1".
  18. Maybe I'm just too naive or trusting but I don't see the need for the ban. Do we assume that Rivals is going to favor one school over another as the NCAA does? What is to keep a school from receiving information from an alum who does subscribe? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  19. Unless offered a head coaching job somewhere, I'd say yes. She has spent 15 years here, is from Tyler, and I believe was Aston's first hire when she became head coach. She is on the Charlotte staff. She is also reputed to be an excellent recruiter, having been an integral part of the Mitchell/Reades signing.
  20. I don't think that the name tags are nerdy unless half the country are nerds because thousands of gatherings use name tags. Having said that, the t-shirt idea is the best and you won't go off and leave a t-shirt as you might a name tag.
  21. According to RV we are right on target with our budget for the stadium but I still agree that we can't afford the chairbacks at this time and it would diminish the value of the club level seating. Maybe some day when there is a waiting line for all club seats it might be feasible to have chairbacks. Since the 'wing zone' is not permanent I also don't see putting a lot of money into how it looks from the interstate. There is already some brick (the back of the concession stands) so just painting the steel green should really help the looks. By the way, could any seating (even on a temporary basis) be added between each stand and the wing zone?
  22. Neither of those players will ever wear green so why does this concern us? Hall bailed and Meger was never a part so neither has any significance with our quarterback situation. I agree that we are in better hands as far as I'm concerned and the post has nothing to do with Mean Green Football.
  23. I haven't listened to the Ticket in a long time but from what I know the banner line should have been...Dunham of the Ticket Giving Love to UNT. I used to enjoy Norm so I won't include him but the rest are dirtbags when it comes to the University of North Texas.
  24. I'm all for the premise. I do think that each CGH should pass psychological tests and background checks. They should pass tests to show their competency with their weapon. I don't hear of any that go through the proper procedure being perpetrators. Hopefully this program would, at least potentially save lives.
  25. Strongside is the side with the most offensive linemen; usually the side with the tight end. There are six linemen when the tight end is used so there must be three to one side of the center. That side is known as the strongside where the predominate number of blockers are.
