Brett is way off on his dimensions. If you will count the 4x8 panels on the backside you will find that there are 11x8'=88' across the bottom and 8x4'=32' in height. That would calculate to 2814 SF; more than twice Vito's figures. Maybe the entire area will not be videoboard but I can't imagine that less than half would be viewing area.

Admittedly, we don't draw anywhere near what we should draw but Johnny truly likes it here, it pays decently, and is only about 300 miles from his roots. I'm pretty sure that he would take any SEC job but others would have to be pretty high profile to really get his attention. As far as our attendance we just need a few more Texas Techs and Oklahoma States to go along with getting to play Western Kentucky at home every once in a while. Bill Blakeley's teams used to draw 5-7,000 with half the student body and I see no reason why those kind of crowds can't return. We haven't been playing a strong schedule so the five straight 20-win seasons seem a little tainted. If just one of his teams had gone two deep in the dance then he would really be in demand. If he can cultivate the incoming talent into a power similar to Butler, Gonzaga, Utah State or the old WKU then he'll get the offers from the bigs.

In addition to room for the players and equipment there must be some space for sight lines. I remember sitting on row 2, 50 yard line at LSU and could only see the backs of the players and what I could glean from the video board. The reason?...I was too close to field and too low. I'm pretty sure that HKS knows what they are doing.

The size of the large video board is 32'x 88'. How much of that is used for border is anyone's guess. Since there will be no fixed advertising on that boards most should be included in the viewing area. The maximum viewing area would be 2,816 SF.

Ding! Ding! Ding! I think that you've discovered why we will win six games this year. That would be the coaches. I had the good fortune to get to visit for a few minutes with Clint Bowen when I went to make my seat selection. His quiet optimism and enthusiasm for what we might be capable of this coming year really pumped me up. Last year at WKU, he took a team that had been near the bottom in every defensive category nationally and ended up the best in the Belt based on conference play. Coach Bowen knows that we lost some talent from last year, notably one of our best linebackers ever and a couple of good defensive tackles. He may have a linebacker who will be near the equivalent of Robertson, and decent depth. He will keep fresh bodies in there so that fatigue won't be a factor as it often was last year. Since defense wins championships we might very well be in New Orleans. We all know how Mike Canales was able to rally the offense in the last five games and I expect near the same this coming year. He seems to be the type of coach that always has produced. The other coordinator, Kent Riddle, was the architect behind Boise State's special teams. They became among the best in the country. He has the conference's best kicker and second best punter and return specialist to work with. He should also have a little more speed on his coverage teams. I look for special teams to be the best in the Sun Belt. Furthermore, our coaches have appeared in 80 bowl games so they know what it takes to win. They may not be able to make bold predictions at this stage but I can. I don't have any pressure.

Don't know how accurate this still is but per Juco Junction there are still several unsigned frontcourt players. We know that #1 is a super-talented head case but if Okie State hasn't made a deal with him he could be an excellent choice. Rivals doesn't show that he has any interest in those colleges that have offered. Worse than that, the only non-AQ school of interest is Northern Illinois.

I don't even consider a rating that doesn't have him listed in the top dozen to be legitimate.

Since he is coming to a QB camp at TCU don't you think that he is still pursuing a quarterback postition rather than wide receiver?

Totally agree about Alzee. He had the lowest assist to turnover ratio the last year that he played with three times more turnovers than assists. He's also not a 3-point shooter so that would almost rule him out there as well. He does play great defense and does okay within the 3-point line with nearly a 50% shooting percentage. Unless Jordan Williams can adjust to playing the two, it looks to me as if Walton may be the starter at SG. There is a possibility that Franklin could play the two but who knows if the NCAA will grant him eligibility this coming season.

Just because the AD knows of Mitchell's selection does not mean to imply in any manner that Tony is associated with the UNT team and/or coaches. He still does not practice with the team nor is he coached by any member of the staff. This is merely the reporting of a newsworthy item. He is listed as being from the University of North Texas because that is where he is enrolled. I didn't glean anything from the article that indicated that he was (or would be) a part of the team.

I don't expect the same red carpet treatment that the club level holders received. I doubt that we will have personal guides or beer and wine. Also no personal parking space except maybe for a particular lot. All things will be scaled down as they should be. I probably got stung a little by the fact that they only went back four years for priority points. Since I retired I haven't always been able to purchase the maximum number of seats or give as much every year. Still, this operation is so vastly superior to Fouts that I'll still feel as if I'm getting preferred treatment. As far as I know, everyone choosing in the next group later this month will be either in 105, 206 or 207 and I don't believe that there's a bad seat in those sections for sure. I hope that someone will from the group that starts on the 23rd will post of their experience so I'll know what to expect on the 25th.

It is an important question but I'm pretty sure that it hasn't/won't be addressed. I am physically unable to stand the entire game and if there is a group in front of me I'll have to demand other seats or request that the standees move to the back of the upper tier. There are times when it's appropriate to stand and I'll do my best to jump to my feet at those times but I'll leave standing the whole game to the Aggies.

Same here. I'm having some health issues so it's doubtful that I can attend the Dallas shindig but I hope to be at Plano.

It is a point to ponder but I believe that Shaw would be better in the long run. Next year is a rebuilding year. We should do pretty well on sheer talent but 2013 is when we should begin to blossom. Hogans is really the only (full-time) post player for next year. Holmen might help but he seems better out on the perimeter. Knox can do some spot duty but that won't be enough. I don't see how JJ can afford to redshirt Robinson. He'll gain more from experience than by just practicing and sitting. I'll be totally shocked if Edwards ever comes near his high school ability. Frontcourt will be a weakness for sure. Miller has a lot of potential but he's not near as polished as Shaw. He's only been playing basketball for four or five years. Would he be immediate help? Yes, but Shaw should be better long term.

There are some interesting points in the editorial but by and large I agree with what the university is doing. We do need a PR firm to ballyhoo the University of North Texas as it's never been done before. Is the University of North Texas, in spite of over 325,000 living alumni (nearly half of them in the area) a household name? I've seen posts on this board ad nauseum that we need advertising. Some want billboards, some TV, some radio, some internet, and still others printed media. A good PR firm knows how to best utilize the advertising dollar to get more bang for the buck. If it's effective, it's money well spent. We used to rely almost totally on the state for our existence. That is becoming less and less with each two-year state budget. We need to be more of a household name to be able to attract students and donors. Identifying the four areas was largely rhetoric but necessary to show that this is not only about the stadium. It could payoff in our research goals, rejuvinate our alumni base and attract individual and foundation donors. The stadium naming rights is an easier sell when the university is at the forefront of the area psyche. We couldn't afford to compete with the professional sports teams in the sports niche but we have so much more to offer than one narrow venue. Make no mistake, sports are important but so are other facets of the university's life. A good PR firm will highlight all important contributions of the University of North Texas. So far, I've seen little to complain about under the administration of Lane Rawlins.

Everyone seems to like the back and forth banter of "NORTH"..."TEXAS" so why not do "NORTH" (student)..."TEXAS" (alumni)..."MEAN" (student)..."GREEN" (alumni)...FIGHT (both). It could be administered at any time (when there is time) by the student side cheerleaders. The word "GO" (or "WIN") could be substituted for "FIGHT". It also could be repeated more than once.
