Are you saying that Athletics has never had a budget? How did they operate? Who paid the salaries? Hurley took most of the money that had been previously budgeted for Athletics and spent it on improving the quality of education.

UNT Softball Adds All-C-USA Player
GrayEagle replied to Side.Show.Joe's topic in Mean Green Athletics
That's true but there will be a close second I predict. Watch women's basketball also take off with the new coaches and some great additions to that team. -
NIL benefits the richest programs
GrayEagle replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
There is no doubt that NIL favors the private schools in P5 and G5 and all schools in the P5; especially the SEC and the B1G. If they continue this travesty there should be a limit; especially on quarterbacks and wide receivers with all other positions somewhat less. -
North Texas Football 2023 Schedule
GrayEagle replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
It is seldom comfortable in early September; especially those looking directly into the sun. I'm hoping that we can fill the student side and we don't want to make them so uncomfortable that they won't come back. That game should have been scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. but I guess that it was necessary so that Cal could return home that night. -

I need to correct my above post. There is only ONE more scholarship available. We just awarded the next to last available scholarship to Tarik Luckit, the 6'2" 205 defensive back who was once a four star recruit. He was last at Arizona State and has only one year of eligibility left.
-
He was committed and scholarship #48 was reserved for him (per JD's list). So, per his list, there are two scholarships left to give. 4

Thanks NT80. I knew that Hurley took the money for expansion and spent it on adding faculty and building improvements, etc. He said at the time that athletics would hate him. But he did make a much better institution of learning and I am grateful. I hadn't realized that they had lowered the attendance and did away with a stadium size requirement.
-
I don't have a clue what the qualifications are for P5 or G5 for that matter. We were not allowed to stay in Division 1A because to be there you had to have a stadium that seats 30,000 with an average attendance of 17,000. We met that criteria before we could return to 1A. How many are in 1A that do not meet that criteria? In some cases teams (especially the MAC) do not have the stadium or the attendance to qualify. There were several in CUSA that did not qualify. Ditto for Sun Belt. I don't really worry about the AAC; or at least I won't when Charlotte gets their new stadium.
-
If that's the case, then there is a chance that the AAC will become a part of the middle group. We are in large markets (except Greenville NC). We will improve our schedule and play mostly those in the Big XII, ACC and an occasional Pac 12. AAC attendance will increase due to the opponent and that non-major market member (East Carolina) will continue to draw 50,000 for their home games.

JayD I did not see the name of Keon Johnson in the PWO list. He is a 6'5" 385 lb. tackle from Akron OH.
-
I know that I saw that figure but it could have been from clothing sales.
-
Do all of them have the same name identification, image usage and likeness? If not, they are abusing the spirit of the NIL. Not everyone has the same amount of familiarity with the public. The amount of NIL each recruit should earn has been worked out and I see the NIL for the average recruit seems to be $6,000-$10,000; nowhere near what SMU is paying.
-
We don't know. No one ever got past him where he had to run all out.

Preferred Walk-On Offer - Steve Smedley - QB Conroe Oak Ridge
GrayEagle replied to Uncle's topic in Mean Green Football
With a very quick release. -
The only one that I know of that received NIL money that mentioned the amount was (I believe) KD Davis who received a little more than $8,000 last year. Don't depend on the Light the Tower Collective to give out information.

Our only recruit that we got from Tulsa has been Noah Raushenberg, a kicker who was acquired from Baylor. We did scout the territory some when Montgomery was coach at Tulsa.

Should the AAC consider adding Liberty?
GrayEagle replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Liberty's stadium seats 25,000 which would be the smallest stadium in the AAC after Charlotte completes its new stadium. Its DMA would be the smallest in the conference as well. -
Is it time for the AAC Countdown Clock?
GrayEagle replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I can't post the running clock but I can tell you that it's 41 days until AAC. -
UNT Football lands highest GPA in history under Morris

Outstanding! Good work recruits and recruiters. -
He looked pretty good at defense as well. He could do well at either, depending on the need.

‘25 RB/WR Cornelius Warren III - N Crowley
GrayEagle replied to 97and03's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
To an extent I'd like to see a large expanse of DFW area players at UNT. We've made some progress there, especially with Dallas SOC. But...we now have recruiters that do well in all areas of Texas and we're getting some good talent from south and west of Houston and central Texas as well. We still have three or more recruiters that work the DFW area and really are beginning to show some great results. With the recruiting staff that we had, Trice had a good idea but I believe now that we can recruit well from every part of the state except West Texas. There I believe that Texas Tech has the upper hand. The SEC and the Big XII have the upper had in getting the four and five star recruits but we seem to be doing well with three star and near four star recruits.
