It did seem to slow in some sports, notably football, but basketball and softball improved with new coaches. One thing that he did do for football was to greatly help getting us in the AAC. His friendship with the American commissioner was a great help in getting us recognition.

When you assign #98 to a walk-on quarterback, most don't get their hopes up.

SDSU sent letter to MWC asking to postpone exit deadline
GrayEagle replied to outoftown's topic in Mean Green Football
I know that Colorado is feeling out the Big XII but what about Arizona, Arizona State and Utah? Where are they going? In fact, it's not for certain that UCLA will go...only USC. I don't believe that USC goes if UCLA does not. I don't know what will happen but at the moment it's not a done thing. -
Official GOMEANGREEN National Signing Day Thread
GrayEagle replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I noticed that almost to a person the recruits give glory to God. That gives them their high character. I believe that factor speaks well for a recruit. I'm not saying that it's impossible for a non-Christian to be a "saint" but they seem to feed off their environment to get that quality. I like the spirit and togetherness of this recruiting class. -
I was blown away by his video. Has excellent speed and ball control. I can't believe that we got him to walk-on. Maybe NIL money??? Anyway, sure glad to have him. It's beginning to look as if this year's team is stronger than the NIT champs.

GrayEagle replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, the cord can be cut on this one. Wren fired him. -
Athletics State of the Department is Tonight
GrayEagle replied to MCMLXXX's topic in Mean Green Football
Did Jared offer any solutions (other than the 2,000 fans buying $25 season tickets (per game ?). Did anyone in the audience offer suggestions? -
Is this a PWO or does he take the last scholarship available this year? It's hard to tell from his stats how effective he is when he was on the worst team in the FBS. Probably double-teamed on every play. I'd guess that he was checked out. Highly likely that position will be a quick wear down so it would need the most frequent substitution. I wish him well.

And the beat goes on...

I'm thinking that Buggs will be a starter along with Edwards. Noland is heralded as an incredible sixth man. He can bring life to a team that is not performing up to par. Also, this team seems capable of playing up-tempo as well as a slow game. I believe that the type of game they play will depend on Boss Hodge.

I think that it's Bahnsen Gym aka "The Pit". The bleachers that fold back against the wall was my tipoff.

I don't get the 12-team playoff. If there were an 8-team playoff they could be done in three weeks. 8-4-2 done. The SEC and Big 10 get two representatives; the Big XII, ACC, Pac12 and AAC get one each. Increase the number of wins for bowl eligibility.

And it would top us off at 16 which I hope is the maximum for any conference.

Could the MWC still try to make a Play for UNT and UTSA
GrayEagle replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
No, for several reasons... We just paid millions to get into the AAC. I believe that we would lose our entrance fee and possibly have to pay an exit fee. The Mountain West would still be considered a lesser conference. In addition we would have to pay another entrance fee for the MWC. In my opinion, the AAC has the best commissioner of all the G5s. That means we'll likely get the best advertising of the G5s and the largest payout because we are in larger markets. The MWC is likely to lose its best franchise, San Diego State, to the PAC12. That would drop its appeal as much as it can be hurt. Other than UTSA our closest MWC member would be New Mexico or Air Force. Much more travel expense! The AAC will get the first G5 spot in the playoffs. That's already been established. Finally, we are busy now putting the new American emblem on courts, fields, uniforms, etc. and are too far into it to back out now. Lastly, I don't see how the MWC will ever be an advantage for us.- 34 replies

UNT lands OU transfer SG CJ Noland
GrayEagle replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'm guessing that Allen, the 6'8" transfer from Mississippi State would help a lot in rebounding; he only needs 259 to a career total of 3,000.- 49 replies

The 2023/24 UNT Basketball Transfer/Recruiting Tracker
GrayEagle replied to Green Otaku's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Why not redo this and include the transfers in...Noland, Buggs, Allen and Edwards so that we have it all on one post? -
Why is RV’s picture no longer on the UNT NIL site
GrayEagle replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
Due to the condition of the economy it's going to be hard to get the medium sized donors for the next few years. But...if we can get thousands to make small to medium-sized contributions after they graduate our sheer numbers will keep us afloat; maybe even ahead of the game. I won't be on this earth when it all happens but I can go to my grave happy if we are on the right track. -
Offertunity is really way ahead of the curve.

Why is RV’s picture no longer on the UNT NIL site
GrayEagle replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't really remember his picture but if you look at the last sentence it mentions a CEO who has experience with UNT. I am reasonably sure that's referring to RV. -
Why is RV’s picture no longer on the UNT NIL site
GrayEagle replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
RV was responsible for the athletic village purchase as well as the building of Apogee. He got millions from Apogee for the naming rights. OK, not as much as he bartered for but still a significant amount. RV was forced to operate from a much smaller budget than Wren and now Jared. I was shocked at the Dodge hire not working. He was the premier of the Texas high school coaches. I didn't realize how limited they had made the pool for assistant coaches, virtually forcing him to bring much of his high school staff with him. Benford hadn't been a college head coach (to my knowledge) and his situation just bombed. He took a chance on what he could afford. -
Yes, I'm afraid that it's still major and mid-major in basketball which means nothing. I hope that the AAC becomes so dominant in the future that we become known as a major basketball conference. It will have a Final Four, the champion and runner-up of the NIT and the winner of the CBI this coming season and Memphis is usually in the playoffs so that should give us a strong basis for a good season.

With four 40% 3 point shooters I wonder if we'll be as slow, defense-minded team as we were last year.
