Attendance was not so good for the “only game in town” Miners. Wonder what att. they put in the box score?
-
👍 Agree. Thing I noticed about Boise State’s “arrival” especially the year they beat OU in the Fiesta Bowl was how their team speed all but equaled that of the Sooner & many upper echelon P5 schools.

Final: UAB 28, La Tech 7. CUSA West Race is Wide Open
PlummMeanGreen replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
La Tech will lose another CUSA game. The Loren Easly loss makes me ill. He was the perfect RB for our offense—power & good enough speed. What an unlucky break for him & the team. Are there any true or RS frosh who is waiting in the wings who fits some of Easly’s criteria? GMG! -

Vote Mason Fine for Davey O'Brien Award!
PlummMeanGreen replied to Talon90's topic in Mean Green Football
As did I, greenminer. We want Mason to win this award if this poll has that much influence with the winner, but worst that could happen if he doesn't win this year is he be one of the finalists who (I believe) gets to attend the formal dinner for the announced winner. Still, let's see what we can each do to help Mason Fine win this thing this year. GMG! To Newbies Who Haven't Voted! Click Below Link---Register---Vote! Vote Mason Fine for Davey O'Brien Award -
Ticket Sales for USM, 10-13, Going Fast
PlummMeanGreen replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
We still be a “day of game ticket sales” program no matter what all these charts say even 24 hours before kick-off. One day that may change but probably not in my lifetime. -

North Texas and Racial Integration in College Football
PlummMeanGreen replied to Salsa_Verde's topic in Mean Green Football
Late KC Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt called our friend Abner Haynes “the 1’st super star of the American Football League.” Hunt was known to not throw such accolades. I saw Abner & the Chiefs play the Oilers in Rice Stadium while a HS student. Our entire football team bussed over to Houston for the game. Rice Stadium? Judge Roy Hofheinz & Bud Adams were still feuding & trying to work a deal for the Oilers to play in the Astrodome. I mentioned to Abner (back in the day) that (like UTEP’s Don Maynard) had he played for a New York or east coast team that he’d be in the NFL Hall of Fame today. Sad that such regional bias existed back then, too. GMG! -
10/3/2018 Me too, Harry. I grew up a Coog' fan until I moved to Denton then I converted quickly. Note: Harry or Cerebus: If this is too old of a thread & along with its subject matter please feel free to delete it. Was going thru the GMG.com archives and found this New Stadium at UH thread. Makes one feel good about how smooth a transition we had with Apogee Stadium. Seems UH has fixed most of their problems. Much love from some UH fans about Apogee after their Game Day experience in Denton when we debuted our new stadium back in September of 2011. GMG!

They crack “YOU” up?!?! 😄 (It was just one key chain for heaven’s sake—-well, not just any key chain, of course).😊 ✅Glad I had an extra one for untcampbell & which ever one of his lucky sons gets it. “WHAT A DAY TO BE US!” (Wren Baker) And....How’s your “Cuzzin’ Guido” of Sicily, uh, Phil? 😳 (I always have to ask you that, of course).😇 GMG! -
Seth Littrell challenges fans to set record against La Tech
PlummMeanGreen replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
TexHammer1983, I only mean't for you to read the below signature that may not have been where you could see it, that's all. It's just my opinion of what any college sports fan forum board is about....not just GMG.com GMG.com: A cyber sports bar filled with extremely passionate Mean Green fans who post one HSO after another. Some comments based on fact--others from urban tales & some mere speculation. Important to never forget is when "the Green Brigade "cues up Glory to the Green......we stand, unify, (some of us) sing, but we become a Mean Green Nation & that my friends is an HSF--Hot Sports Fact ! -
Seth Littrell challenges fans to set record against La Tech
PlummMeanGreen replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
I brightened up the green of this pic a bit more with some photo shop type software. Not saying this had any affect, but I went down to the concourse at half time & told a couple of the girls wearing yellow that during the game there were far too many fans standing on....the concourse around the perimeter of the stadium & that they should be asked to find a seat. I think they probably told those standing around on the concourse most of the first half to go to the Wing Zone because that was probably the only place they could have gone, right? -

Abner Haynes signing autographs in Frisco 10/20
PlummMeanGreen replied to @UNTSportsFan's topic in Mean Green Football
Amen, Marty! An Abner Haynes Story (he told many of us downtown Dallas at Old One Main Place back in the 1970's). This story some of you know and I as recall I believe its in his book. Well, the story goes......North Texas was taking a train down to the Bayou City to play the U of Houston Cougars in the mid 1950's. We were both in the Missouri Valley Conference at the time. So, the train arrives in Houston stops behind the hotel where our team would stay. Hotel officials told Coach Mitchell that Abner & Leon would not be allowed to stay in the hotel because of the segregation.😡 ❌Unfortunately, an ugly era in our country (Jim Crow, etc) was happening in the South & Southwest. Long story short , the entire North Texas football team’s attitude was...”If Abner & Leon can't come inside that hotel with the team then we are staying on the train with them" (& they did). We have had some great athletes & human beings walk down "the Corridor of Years" at all of our's favorite school. You know, we may not always have everything in common but what we do have in common is...the University of North Texas & the Mean Green! GMG! -

Responding to untcampbell & Huff: Thanks, Scottie Campbell. Glad I had an extra. I still think back when we loaded up your SUV & went to Norman for that track meet, I mean, uh, football game the day OU recognized Bud Wilkinson (when he was actually still alive). I like schools who recognize their greats while they're still living (like....MEAN JOE GREENE)? And then after the Sooner game we head back to DFW how you almost outran that Oklahoma DPS officer. SUMG & I both never saw a foot get off an accelerator as fast as yours did in our life. And Don aka Huff....Most of the time? (Like when my mouth ain't moving)? 😷 Good to have seen you, Kathy along with Mack, Al, Joanne & so many more. We have met many pretty cool alums and fans thru the decades, haven't we. Honestly, many of us OldTimers (?) thought we had died & were in our 1'st Day in Mean Green Heaven with all we witnessed on Game Day. What a day! And if not for a blocked field goal? Oh well, life goes on. I'm sure Coach Seth would have told his team it was a learning moment. GMG! -
A Challenge To Every One Of You
PlummMeanGreen replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Got mine on now. And yes, drex, Peter Pan Fake Fair Catch is still in some people’s heads. I’m not sure we’ll know how that one play introduced so many to know who North Texas is. Unrelated, but the Razorbacks playing the Aggies so close will help UNT’s RPI. Down the road bowl officials would I’m sure look at that for a Mean Green football team with.....ONLY 1 LOSS! ____________ ❓ Have you voted for Mason Fine today in the Davy O’Brien poll? FWIW, me’thinks we’ve closed some of the gap between him & the UCF QB. -
Praise for Mason Fine (and how far we've come)
PlummMeanGreen replied to meangreen2016's topic in Mean Green Football
As I stated on this forum 2 years ago that Mason Fine would end up being very special for us if we kept him healthy. (I followed him his senior year at Locust Grove as I was intrigued with his story back then). I though he was going to get permanently maimed during the Florida Gators game his freshman year, though. That same thought ran past my mind last Saturday night vs La Tech. (You gotta’ block for the franchise, guys). GMG! -
We need a larger video screen period. Have you seen Oklahoma States? Yes, I know they are Big 12 but if you can put a larger one at Apogee why would conference affiliation even matter? I do like the veranda being used for more seating if that’s what they are going to do. Why do we have the propensity to make things smaller up there? Is our school’s enrollment shrinking or is this merely all those decades of OldDenton group think in play? (Go for it anonymous keyboard warriors). ❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌❌ GMG!

Classy post, Bard.

Yes, Emmitt! I was almost worried about you when I saw you at half time at the concessions area & we opinionated as to what we'd been seeing in the 1'st half with both of us being equally frustrated--like most all in an almost filled to the brim stadium were, but you have given this the right perspective. Thank you. Amazing to me is how all that could go wrong went wrong (with a proper nod to La Tech who came totally prepared to concentrate on what they had to do) but with all that we still only lost toward the end on a play that could have even been the winning play. La Tech knew they had just dodged a long trip on Interstate 30 back home to Ruston. We are going to a bowl game & probably at a bowl versus a school more known to most all college football fans coast to coast. Strangely enough, North Texas is known more nationally today because of a trip to Fayettville & a play that went viral on one major network (NBC) that I saw, every cable TV sports show & piped into every Americans TV room who watch sports. The Texas Aggies gave our win over the Hogs even more validity to those who have compared our scores. I understand that Bowl people notice those kind of things. To some in the USA in remote places, we are the new kid on the block fixin' to move up the NCAA totem pole. That Green, Green Kool-ade of home tastes so great. (Sing it for the MG Nation, Tom Jones). GMG!

I'm extremely nearsighted even with binoculars. :) Just heart sick for some kids who wanted to win on quite an eventful day for all Mean Greener's everywhere. Exciting times in Mean Green Country to say the least. I was happy & proud of everyone I saw today. A successful field goal and we're all ready to conquer Texas A & M who didn't exactly handle the Razorbacks as our Mean Green did. I know you can't compare scores but college football fans do all the time. GMG!

A bad night when most all went wrong with one mistake after another & we still lost by only 2 points? This game reminded me of the Florida Gator game 2 years ago in Mason Fine's freshman year when our All Star QB was running for his life most of the game (sorta' like tonight).:( Our offensive line couldn't block a quick La Tech defense so Mason Fine could play his usual set up & pass YET he was running for his life & didn't have time to do that. Did we all see how the La Tech QB had so much time to set and pass? A game winning field goal & we're all on cloud 9. We have the right group at the right time IMHO. Look who Seth Littrell has inspired to take us over the top with the upcoming new Indoor Practice Facility with 2 record breaking athletic dept. donations in 2 weeks worth $5.5 million? The best team won tonight, but we kinda' helped them out with gifts (mistakes) and (yes) the Referees were terrible. Missing holding calls on La Tech's offensive line was part of that, too. PLUS......the 2 point conversion was good as the Jumbotron replayed it 3 difference times to prove that point. On a brighter side TAMU made our win over Arkansas look even better to with their 7 point loss to the Aggies. Life goes on...
