If Kansa State offers SL he’s a goner. If North Texas were a P5 it would make it tougher for SL to leave a program he could be our “Bill Snyder” to put his mark on, but no G5 HFC turns down the right P5 opportunity. Kansas U might be the exception, but looks like Les Miles is getting that gig.

Many of us were in Stillwater one evening watching Mitch Maher almost pull one out over Oklahoma State back when we were a 1-AA program. GMG!

Read the whole paragraph. It’s not about attendance rather TV revenues where P5’s will always trump G5’s in that area. Most P5 foes at Apogee will draw larger crowds (assuming we are winning regularly) & based on the fact that most our fans will know who the hell we are playing for a change. .❇️ Playing regional P5’s who would bring 5K to 10K fans to Apogee to play a Top 25 Mean Green football program would put us in new, exciting “never seen before in Denton unchartered waters.” Dream on? What is life all about if not dreaming for improvement? Those in OldDenton & beyond who can never look beyond the last 50 years yet see us always being the same need to probably go on to the next thread on “what shade of green” for next year or is it a jointed or disjointed “NT.” 🙄

DON’T GET EXCITED BECAUSE THIS IS JUST FOR SPECULATION & DOWN THE ROAD MAYBE A WAY TO IMPROVE NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN ATHLETIC’S FUTURE WITH SIGNIFICANT P5 TV REVENUES. Forget those All Conference teams but no sacrifice since we’d be trading that for all the other percs for being an Independent in a totally different era to be an Independent but now as a P5 member being eligible to get P5 TV revenues. Could North Texas be a P5 Independent with schools like BYU, Southern Miss, Boise & other frustrated G5 schools hating their G5 lot in NCAA life yet “each operate as an Independent P5 program? ➡️ Otherwise, 30 years down the road aren't we looking at North Texas still being in a 30,000 seat “G5 stadium” with all the others while we welcome schools like Sam Houston St, Stephen F. Ausin , Midwestern St., ACU & Houston Baptist to what would be a “minus 2.0 regional version” of CUSA? A conference where we have to pay cable TV networks to televise our games?😳
-
It would be the one bowl that North Texas Exes & fans would shine best. The Cotton Bowl Stadium is just too damn big & swallows a crowd of 40,000. We would have traveled a minimum of 30,000 fans to Shreveport vs Fla. State last year but.......oh well.🤨

This was another half time shot at a TCU vs Kansas Big 12 classic a few years ago at ACS. (Fans donated by Macy’s Department Store).. Does WBAP have our very Fine 2018 North Texas Football Team & it’s successful season on their personna non grata black list? Never any mention of last night’s (or any) game this morn by the Morning guys of Brien Estridge & Hal Day(?)

Brain fart time for those who were NeverFine’ers even after we first signed him to a scholly. I was proudly one of his earliest supporters but what the hell do I know closing in on 50 years of following Mean Green football & having even played the game at a Texas high school as a 3 year letterman & an All District safety & Tri-Captain my senior year. (blushing). ➡️ And you have read my book “ Modesty & How I Attained It?” 🤔 Fine is just more than Fine. Broadcasters last night couldn’t say enough great things just as as the CBSS national Half Time Report guys, too. Enjoy the Fine ride. He’s a record-setter & giving UNT more national pub than I can remember from any one player last almost 50 years I’ve followed this. (I was in HS during the Joe Greene era) Some of our fans would screw up a wet dream & then blame someone else for it. GMG!

Come on now, based on recent history was not Emmitt01 saying what many of us believed after the 17 point lead dissipated & our defense started playing “2 below” with the FAU stud RB? GMG!

***FAU vs UNT Official Game Thread***
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Told a fellow alum today FAU team speed may be too much. It was for 2 games last year It showed with the tackle of Mason Fine as he ran toward the flag for a TD attempt. Dammit! GMG! ✅ To Down vote: You disagree with FAU’s team speed last year & last night? The football gods finally smiled on our team last night after ODU & UAB, but if Littrell doesn’t take the first P5 offer out of a concern “to take care of his family” he still needs 3 good recruiting classes in a row with mucho 3 stars for us to ever be able to win a CUSA championship of which we’ve not won even “1” since SMU left & gave us an opening to get in. -
***FAU vs UNT Official Game Thread***
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Recruiting has us where we are. Defense is not tackling but playing 2-below. In Fine’s 3’rd year we still don’t have the quality offensive line we should have. About 3-4 schools seem to have out-recruited North Texas since the Littrell era began. No bowl wins yet. You sure about all this, O Ye suitor Kansas State? • Littrell needs 3 recruiting classes in a row with a bunch of 3 stars for North Texas to be able to win a CUSA championship. I have never bought into the Littrel is ready for prime time hype. Granted, he’s an up & comer but he has not made it happen in Denton yet as far as a CUSA championship is concerned. He may turn into a Jerry Moore 2.0 & get an early surprise P5 gig. Moore left after 2 years with a career .500 W/L in Denton. Guess Tech saw something back then I didn’t see as a fan. Of course, Moore was great at App. State. -
Former Texas HS football coach (later UTA HFC) Chuck Curtis had that "transfer" kids syndrome, too, I've heard. He had other "cheating" issues too listening to Old Timers who knew him. He is a member of the Parker Country Sheriff Possee where I've DJ'd many events, but I think he passed a few years ago, didn't he? (Sorry, CHUUUU'CK if you are still kicking). I believe in redemption whereas people of all walks deserve a 2'nd chance, but (to quote another alum) the present "Me Too" movement is all but an ender for Art Briles. Such a shame for such a talent, but we all have to be be responsible for all our actions.

Ball State vs Western Michigan. Nobody There
PlummMeanGreen replied to Danish43's topic in Mean Green Football
I wish when we were televised at Apogee that more shots of the big time looking part of our stadium (the Press Box side) could be seen more by the TV viewing audience. We love our Apogee but most all the TV shots are either the Student Side or the Wing Zone. GMG! -
We’re literally in NCAA purgatory & being bled dry on any semblance of TV revenue. BYU alums don’t want a MWC tie-in or affiliation, but I haven’t studied their situation enough as a college football novice to know what they want for Cougar athletics. It would be interesting to know. GMG!

Kansas U is a P5 coaches graveyard & the record is there to prove it. Great basketball school, though. Littrell needs to close 3 classes in a row of a bunch of 3 star recruits then North Texas can get out of its own wilderness. Boyhowdy has this season ever turned into “The Tale of Two Seasons.”😳 ➡️ Somethings going on in the locker room we will never be privy to I’d almost bet. GMG!

Will the 100’th best team now get a 100’th Place ribbon? This is sounding all too familiar to a watered & dummied down culture a la European style melted down melting pot & as happening in other locales. 🐶Throw the G5’s another bone? We have to get out of this mess soon as we can or act like we’re trying to. GMG!

🔴💭 CHASING COUGARS TRACKS! CK2, I was a huge UH fan growing up in the Greater H-Town area. Saw a UH frosh basketball team play at Delmar Gym; that is, a team that featured Elvin Hayes, Don Chaney, Ken Spain, Theodus Lee & the 5’th starter whose name I suddenly cannot recall. Saw the UCLA-UH matchup (Alcindor vs Hayes) in the worst possible seats in the Astrodome. Glad I brought my binoculars.. Saw a couple Astro-Bluebonnett games UH hosted but... ...the SWC breakup was the worst thing that could happen to UH, SMU & Rice. To have SWC membership then lose it has to almost be worse than never having it at all—like us. Yes, it gave the Coogs credibility for sure but as the years continue to fly by that will be replaced by an annual reality that UH is still (like North Texas) a G5 school. Your UH leadership did have the vision in building a 40,000+ capacity football stadium. No, y’all don't fill it every game but P5 schools are not filling theirs either, but your stadium’s capacity will allow UH from time to time to play & fill your stadium versus (ranked) schools we’d all crave an association. Such games as those will give UH more regional & national exposure than your entire AAC home schedule any season ever will. ➡️ We can relate except our stadium (like an Olympic sized swimming pool we built at our PEB which was “one foot” shy of Olympic size so —scratch Olympic size)😳anyway,.....Apogee was probably built 9,000 seats too small which for the next 30 years will keep us hanging with the rest of the Sun Belt, Mid American & CUSA schools most of whom have similar 30K seat stadiums & a mindset to stay at that level. I believe UH will find their separation from the “30,000 seats” stadium club of G5 schools will probably pay dividends for the Coogs in the near future. GMG!

UNT Teams With Affinity Licensing
PlummMeanGreen replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
The University of North Texas was indirectly responsible for the first official college licensing to be established as a result of what happened at this game as indicatedon the scoreboard in the picture. The Events As They Transpired: (1) Bill Battle was fired with an SEC record of 6 & 5 after North Texas beat the Volunteers in October of 1975 (with the Mean Green's 3'rd string QB--one Glen Ray. The starting UNT QB Kenny Washington & his backup Ken Smith had been injured in prior games of the 1975 season. (2) Then.....Bill Battle paid a visit with his ex football coach the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant who gave him the start-up money to begin a college licensing company. (3) The rest (you might say) is history. * Talk about Bill Battle post-North Texas loss & eventually being fired turning his lemons into lemonade! company.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collegiate_Licensing_Company -

Would you trade the Arkansas and SMU wins for...
PlummMeanGreen replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
We get recruits attention with the SMU & Arkansas wins. We got more of our casual fans attention with those 2 wins. Beating CUSA schools don’t come close to getting similar attention as did wins over the Mustangs & Hogs. Littrell? Coaches come & go. Ask Boise St. about that, but I hope SL stays & continues to improve our recruiting to where we can beat the best of the Sun Belt (Troy) & CUSA. GMG!
