  1. Scatter’shootin’ While Chasin’ Rabbits, Broncos & Cougars! Boise State has always been this green-tinted Monday Morning Quarterback novice’s preferred model for our school. BSU lost so many HFC’s in one stretch, but kept replacing them with good hires who still kept the Broncos in Top 25 polls during much of that era. (They didn’t fare too bad the other day against Florida State). To me there are (maybe) approximately 10 NCAA P5 programs that are any HFC’s final destination school, so I guess that would make the rest of us steppingstones? It’s a role some schools have handled admirably & others all but fell apart. UH keeps plugging at it & have a P5 future in their plans. They have built venues to prove it—so are we if you take a tour of the Mean Green Village. Upward mobility is still in the DNA of the majority of most in the USA. UH’s firing of Major Applewhite in an over .500 short career in Cougar Country before his last season ended was further proof of UH’s brighter NCAA lights ambitions but honestly, we don’t know if & when the exclusive NCAA P5 country club will ever let any G5 outsider in their club. Having my formative years in Greater Houston, I wish for the favorite college sports teams of my youth good luck with their venture, because if they can somehow get in the P5 club, maybe that offers hope for a hardy handful of others who I honestly believe want in, too. GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT SMU!
  2. As always, I stand to be corrected, but I think it was actually an HKS architect person who came up with the Wing Zone design I guess to satisfy himself or impress the boss, but in doing that maybe he forgot which group needed to be satisfied? (Of course, someone at UNT needed to rubber stamp that idea). • On the flip side, that Wing Zone sure takes on a different personality when its full (or almost full). We’ll have it for the rest of most our lives, but (still) the first expansion rumor will be about a 9,000 seat double deck on the Student Side which will give Apogee 40,000 seats & a pretty good (& aesthetically) balanced look for the entire stadium......IMHO. GMG!
  3. Make that...”every, every”...article. I’ve memorized that all time series because a Denton Record-Chronicle sports-scriber won’t let me (& many others) forget it.😳 “Moving forward at the end of the day” time, BV. GMG!
  4. It is our main concern; especially with King & his receivers. GMG!
  5. The Mean Green beat SMU at Texas Stadium in 1977(?) Many of us on GMG actually saw it happen, but that was in Irving—not Dallas. GMG!
  6. Did the brainchild of “the Wing Zone” more or less have one of those Jerry Maguire kind of mission statement moments? 🤔 GMG!
  7. Again, Arkstfan, so sorry to hear of your Coach’s tragic loss of his wife. I read somewhere that he had another emergency & was not at last night’s game?
  8. If SMU officials could get the tailgaters off “the Boulevard” & into Ford—35,000!?!😆 GMG!
  9. Hey Silver Eagle (or anyone): More brass in this Green Brigade than ever? 👍👍 GMG!
  10. UH has a plan. That’s one reason they started their plan by building a 40,000 seat stadium—merely part of the plan. Go ahead👎👎👎👎👎👎👎but it’s the truth.
  11. As Harry has said, this is a much different SMU team than the one we played last year. The UT transfer QB has made them much different.
  12. I’m sure I saw this one eating a Corny dog starting with the stick.
  13. Too bad they don’t have CST-friendly kick-off times because they would be an upgrade from this East-West hodge we’re in now. Former conference/mate Boise State fared pretty well vs Florida State.
  14. Last one I post from my IPhone. This pic taken 1 hour before kickoff, but once the game started Fletchers had an endless line of customers throughout the evening. I mean long lines. Maybe they need a bigger food wagon with at least 2 portals for fans to order from? I enjoyed my Corny dog & had forgotten how good they were as it been years since I visited the State Fair of Texas.
  15. 21 for SMU last I heard. NCAA will probably stop that. Maybe 4?
  16. “Memories, pressed between the pages of our minds.” ( Elvis) Harry’s Boyz to (MG) Men at the tailgate. Note: Harry did put on his best Macy’s (White) MG shirt on after the tailgate. Did y’all see FFR on the giant video screen? We now all want your autograph, Rick! 😎
  17. Maybe it is time to get religious.😇
  18. “D?” No penetration from DL. None.
  19. We be Independent like Army & BYU? 😱 I’m sorry, sorry, sorry! I didn’t mean it!🥶 • I’d wager we have an AD who is looking at other options. He seems to always be looking forward. GMG!
  20. ✅✅ Great stuff, Don! 👍👍 Now I need to go to RaceTrac & get me a copy. GMG!
  21. Way to go, fellers! 👍 And tcu?👾 The WBAP Morning guys go out of their way to avoid talking about UNT. Earlier this week in their roll call of upcoming local/ regional games this weekend they didn’t even mention ours. Honestly, I think Froggy’ville feels left out of all this national publicity Mason Fine & the Mean Green have been getting ,ie, Coach SL on Jim Rome Show, Austin American-Statesman’s almost full page feature on “possible Heisman candidate” M. Fine, the Washington Post feature on Mason Fine & on & on... Oh yeah, TCU thinks they even got Parker County sewed up but here’s one buddy of mine they don’t. This pic taken 45 minutes ago. GMG!
  22. Fantastic! He’s a good kid.
  23. Emmitt01 speaks the truth. In the past it’s been 3 steps forward — 5 back. We need to keep this group in Athletics as long as we can. May the stars align & Lady Luck smile so that we can. GMG!
  24. Sorry about your dilemma, Mike. ☹️ We know your heart will be at Apogee, but I’m not sure why this huge game drew the green weenie of having no adequate TV coverage. GMG!
  25. Abner Haynes has to be next; especially while he’s living. Abner Haynes Legacy • Integrated a traditionally Texas Caucasian university along with Dr Leon King—10 years before SMU’s Jerry Levias & UH’s Warren McVae. • Look magazine All American when that publication was the premier All America team. • An alum told me Lamar Hunt signed him to a Texans/later Chiefs contract in a Fouts Field end zone following his last game at NT. Mr. Hunt also called Abner the first true superstar of the AFL. GMG! The late Ron Shanklin called Abner “Father Time!”😆 ❇️ OLD STORY SOME OF YOU HAVE HEARD: Back in the 80’s, Shank’ & Haynes came to FW on a recruiting trip for Corky Nelson. They dropped by my office & so the 3 of us would go eat lunch at Dos Gringos. Long story short...Abner told Ron & I about the time NT took a train down to Houston to play the UH Coogs. The hotel the team would stay in was conveniently near the train tracks. It was the Jim Crowe era so Abner & Dr. King were told blacks were not welcome in the hotel so.....all the white NT players told hotel management if Haynes & King weren’t allowed inside, they’d just as soon sleep on the train with them & so they did. GMG!
