La Tech gets a game at TCU on Dec 12
PlummMeanGreen replied to VideoEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
“My sad guess is that CUSA West is the best we will ever reach. As long as TV drives the bus, the days of sharing TV markets is over. SMU will never be in a conference with TCU or UNT, much like Uh will never be in a conference with Rice again. The one avenue that is available is if the MWC would ever expand to Texas again, but it appears as if our fans have almost no interest in going out West, even though TCU did that and succeeded greatly, because of late starts and games aren't reported in newspapers. Its probably never going to be an option anyway, but the fact that we would have a fanbase that overwhelmingly is against the MWC because of travel concerns is beyond short-sighted. But it is what it is. We like playing Texas/Louisiana teams in conferences, which is fine. It just will never raise your profile into being anything more than a regional program that will always have limited money.“ _______________ Very well said, untjim1995. You’ve been around long enough to know our culture & our mode of thinking. One of our fellow alums of yesteryear called that thinking mode “our forever teacher’s college” mode of thinking, but he long dropped out of following our football program. It’s our recruiting lists that concerns some. Why do UH & SMU seem to have on their list much larger & faster linemen? Yes, many G5’s have a problem recruiting linemen. Unfortunately, my pre-UNT student era I was a huge UH Coog fan & once entertained the idea that UNT could copy UH in so many ways. Well, we haven’t—yet. Still, UNT is like a drug which once it enters the bloodstream you are hooked. Try getting away from it & you’ll soon have withdrawal symptoms & come back. The upside is you know misery can’t last forever. (Ask Kansas State fans about that). ➡️ Fact is: Win or lose tonight, UNT is still a 41,000 enrollment school that has better athletic venues than some Power 5 programs. We’re also in a 5 county area of 7,000,000 population. Some day UNT will find a way to take full advantage of that. I think we’re closer than most think now. ••• EAT EM’ UP! I remember when🔻Bill Yeoman first came to UH how several of his first teams had losing records. Listening to KTRH sports talk it seems UH fans were unhappy with Coach Bill with some trying to run him off into the great abyss after his 4’th year at UH. I think those fans are glad now they were not successful. Yet Coach Yeoman was made fun of with his weekly TV show & some called it “The Making Excuses For Losing Bill Yeoman Show.” Its still funny how fickle a fan base can be. We’ve all been members of that elite group at one time or another. I think most would prefer not to be, though. GMG! BEAT THE DAWGS! -
Great article! 👍👍 The chemistry & timing was never good for UNT to be invited. It was said UT’s DKR was for it. Arkansas AD Frank Broyles was already complaining about “too many Texas schools” in the SWC. He added there were only “2” rivalries in the SWC—those Texas SWC schools vs U of Texas & those Texas SWC schools vs U of Arkansas. (He was right, too).

La Tech gets a game at TCU on Dec 12
PlummMeanGreen replied to VideoEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Of course it’s a no-win for TCU, but had we the last 25 years directed our ship a similar direction Boise State did after both UNT & BSU left the Big West Conference I think we’d be a win-win for any P-5 school to want to play us home & home. Now at age 70, I still keep believing our program which for most my life has largely been an under-achieving one is still way beyond salvageable. ••• Hellsbells, folks! Look at freakin’ Kansas State? They were the all time under-achieving NCAA football program. We looked like world-beaters compared to them back in the day no matter what conference they were in. •••Irony of all ironies was that it was our favorite school the Wildcats beat to begin Bill Snyder’s ascent for KSU to be a regular in the Top 25. Who will UNT beat to begin our ascent because I still actually think we will. GMG! -
La Tech gets a game at TCU on Dec 12
PlummMeanGreen replied to VideoEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Will there need to be a worldwide pandemic for our favorite school to get on TCU’s schedule?🙃 Quite frankly, I’m glad we haven’t been on it of late, but watch for “the little red & blue engine that could” give the Frogs a good game—or WTH, give those Horned Frogs a loss. The Bulldogs get one of those (from an unexpected foe) periodically. Most of us would kill for such. ••• I would have still liked to have seen a rescheduled TCU vs SMU matchup. I think SMU would have beaten TCU when originally scheduled & I think they would beat them now. What a year!😷 GMG! -
I’d use the last 2 games for a youth movement kind of thing. See where we need to fill weak spots with JUCOS or transfers (not that we don’t know that already). Let the last 2 games (& maybe a late scheduled 3’rd game a la TCU/LaTech) be early Spring Football & start preparing for 2021. 2020 has been a wash😷 for more reasons than one so we just need to dust our feet & move on. All for the greater good. GMG!

DRC: UNT loses elite recruit to TCU
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I know, full disclosure, but should a lost recruit be a headline or (perhaps) rather a short sentence in a “Notes” section at the bottom of the page? I don’t know, but something tells me if TCU lost a blue-chip recruit to North Texas it would not be a headliner at Frog Fan Forum. GMG! -

🤓North Texas vs nUTSAck 2020 Game Thread🤬
PlummMeanGreen replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Football
When I read that #8 ranked BYU beat UTSA by only ”7” I was afraid that we’d be in for a long day. Guess it’s back to being a rebuilding year? 😏 GMG! -

We could either win big or lose bigger. * If BYU only beat UTSA by a TD then I’m suddenly getting nervous about this game. Yet what is it about start-up football programs that make all this seem so easy? Liberty U for instance: Look at LU’s top shelf venues? Golly! I know contributors to religious schools all think they’re giving to Jesus, but for the life of me—what about all us pagan schools? 😳 Where’s all the instant winning (against Somebody U) & love for us? GMG!

I was in Denton early Saturday morning to meet my sister who just moved to Lewisville. We were to meet at the Embassy Suites-Denton Conference Center She drove from Houston to attend a convention 2 years ago & back then had glowing remarks about the Denton venue. (It is nice if you haven’t seen it). 🔵 Well, Embassy Suites (Denton) is where the Rice Owls stayed on Friday night. As my sister & I drank coffee & caught up she looked around & observed the Rice U football players/staff eating breakfast & she said: “Now that is a well-mannered group of college football players.” I told her I agreed because they were. They were all dressed out in their dark blue leisure’s as seen in the photo below. Rest assured, Rice U officials were well represented by their football team last weekend. . —-And sorry, I have to watch this video just one more time.😊 https://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=30360105 GMG!

I like playing SMU & have for 4 decades. Just wouldn’t mind a few more wins? 🙄 To any SMU fan: Do y’all continue your series with TCU? I hope you do.

There Is No Mention of the Rice Game
PlummMeanGreen replied to greenjoe's topic in Mean Green Football
Rice U’s 18 wheeler with the Owl’s football gear left Houston this morning according to their fan forum board. Game is obviously on for a 1:00 pm kickoff. To all fans: Stay safe! 🦉...........🦅 -
❇️ UNT’s Jason Bean/ Austin Aune ranked #35
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Agree. And of course, after all—Texas is back.🙃 -
Just get them to our campus to view the sights of a 41,000 enrollment UNT along with the ever burgeoning & venues-rich Mean Green Village & some good stuff can really happen. We just have to make sure we don’t get in the way.
