🦅❇️🦅UNT Climbing in Recruiting Rankings! Hot Damn!
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
3 stars is where all these present player’s evaluations are today. Now looking at AAC’s 3 star athletes vs all of CUSA’s how can anyone say their 3 star recruits are so head & shoulders above ours? Whose to say theirs will develop much more than our gifted 3 star athletes? 😳 So many other factors can come into play. Here is a most unique one—North Texas recruited a kid who when he enrolled at UNT was 5’10” 185 pounds. At graduation he had grown to 6’4” 240 pounds. He was an NFL #1 draft choice & drafted by the SF 49’ers. Some of you know Cedrick Hardman’s story well & he still holds the 49’ers QB sack record unofficially since the league didn’t keep sack records during most of Hardman’s hay day. ••• Yet on recruiting Dave Campbell used to say on Al Whisk’s KRLD Sports Central recruiting roundup radio show (& he probably even coined the phrase): “Recruiting at best is an uncertain science.” ______________________________ Remember when these guys were around? 🦅❇️🦅 GMG! -
No doubt we will have some good QB talent on our campus this Spring. Bryce Drummond will be one of several. Check this video out, though. The young Oklahoman said he loves Apogee & our facilities, but forget football—check out that rib eye his mom “the Pioneer Woman” is fryin’ up.😛 🦅❇️🦅 GMG!

Seth Littrell & staff will have more to add to the February signing date. Might that push them over the top to #1? D-E-F-E-N-S-E getting the focus.🤗 •1 or 2 services still have Caleb Johnson signing with OU, but he’s Mean Green Country bound all—the—way! https://247sports.com/Season/2021-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/?Conference=C-USA 🦅❇️🦅GMG!

Nor is there any video of the Kansas State at UNT & Fouts Field finale game that I can detect. _________________ At 70 I find I ramble even more so... •••Not that he’s relevant, but why no video of UNT alum & a pioneer of rock & roll one Pat Boone singing the national anthem at the debut of Apogee Stadium? Good gosh, how many stadium debuts do we get to attend in a lifetime? I had 2: the Houston Astrodome on April 9, 1965 &...Apogee Stadium, September of 2011. History just needs to be recorded, that’s all. Why did General Eisenhower insists the most visible & telling results of Kraków & Aushwitz be filmed & photographed? ••• Unrelated to sports but best my personal research can tell, UNT also failed to film the grand opening & full concert of the Murchison Performing Arts Center. I had the flu & couldn’t use my tickets, but did listen to it live on WRR-FM in Dallas. Yet the event was a pretty big deal that many high rollers participated like Van Cliburn, the Bass family of Fort Worth, Mort Meyerson Center officials, etc, etc, etc. 🦅❇️🦅GMG!

LOWER SEASON TICKETS BY 80% FOR 2021
PlummMeanGreen replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely our Mean Green Village of top shelf venues is a plus. McCarney wasted Apogee Stadium’s first few “Wow” effect years since we all learned of his unusual recruiting practice of not leaving the Denton city limits. (Probably why there was a “Portland State” in his future). 🦅❇️🦅GMG! -
...also the year we played this unknown opponent in the photo? Thanks in advance. PS; I wanted to guess NMSU, but I can’t remember the Aggies bringing this large a crowd in the visitors section or the end zone being that full. Also, our Baylor game at Fouts (which we won) the crowd was larger but Baylor fans would have been wearing green (or yellow).

And at least Bo Pelini would also get our foot in the Land of Candid Yams & fillet gumbo, right? God knows all the non-LSU schools in the Sportsmen Paradise State have recruited in our backyard. Turnabout is (still) fair play? 🦅❇️🦅 GMG!

*Updated* Kevin Sumlin: Deal (Steal) of the Century
PlummMeanGreen replied to Pseudo Nym's topic in Mean Green Football
🤔Have we all run out of things to during this cursed pandemic?😊 Now trying to hire someone for a position that is not open?😆 I think Seth needs to win 6 to stay, but if he wins 5 I think those who hire & fire (& some of that group are now MP (Money People) will let him stay & build a program with the fine talent of his last 3 recruiting classes. At 5 wins he’ll probably have to fire a coordinator or 2, though. Guess he’s the underdog on this forum, but I’m trying to feel like I did about him when SL had 2 straight “9” win seasons in a row. We all know the deficiencies, but I’d wager Littrell does to & will try to correct them beginning with that anemic defense. 🦅❇️🦅GMG! ♦️PS: I did like what Sumlin was doing at UH, though. -
‘21 RB Keith Jackson - Missouri City [SIGNED LOI]
PlummMeanGreen replied to 97and03's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
😆 DKR did. *Steve Worster, **Chris Gilbert & Ted Koy (spot relief by Jim Bertelson) * With my HS coach & wife the 3 of us went over to Clear Lake to see Bridge City & Worster win their bi-district game—Worster was a man among boys. (Right, Deep Green)? **Our Danbury, Texas, neighbor worked for Humble Oil & Refinery & always had SWC tickets. He had tickets for the 1966 Bluebonnet Bowl so dad, our neighbor & I drove over to Rice Stadium to see Johnny Vaught’s Ole Miss Rebels vs DKR’s UT Longhorns. Chris Gilbert was outstanding in that game (QB Super Bill Bradley not so much). UT won. I believe it was the next year that James Street (Longview HS) took over the reins from Bradley, but I stand to be corrected. Non-related—After watching CCU & LU last night, we really do need a quick infusion of DL’s who can run like the wind. Damn!😫 🦅❇️🦅GMG! -
U of H - 2 Yrs - 7 Wins - $8 Million
PlummMeanGreen replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
In 1956 UH beat the Baylor Bears which inspired Texas oilman H.R. Cullen to give the school $1 million. UH Athletics didn’t get all of that huge amount (back then) but got enough. The Coogs began their slow ascent in the NCAA which culminated with their first big step in 1967 as they tore up Duffy Daugherty’s #2 ranked MSU Spartans. America got its first intro to Bill Yeoman’s Houston Veer offense that afternoon in East Lansing. UH would continue its momentum that would inspire UT’s DKR to recommend UH for SWC membership. ••• I think North Texas Mean Green fans & alums can celebrate the fact that our UNT athletic fundraisers have Identified several big donors that is enabling our favorite school to very impressively go forward with projects & facilities that have only been reserved for P-5 athletic programs. Now’s the time for UNT to especially get our football program beyond being ship-shape by having our recruiting list’s quality be at the same level of UH, SMU, Baylor & Texas Tech; all that as we remind ourselves that our athletic venues in past decades would have made such aspirations a totally unrealistic pipe dream so yes—we do have reasons to look beyond our present football situation & merely celebrate the fact that all pistons are running congruently which will allow UNT football to move up & to do so fairly quickly. 🦅❇️🦅 GMG! -

MOSTLY SPECULATION HERE... 🔸A LITTLE HISTORY...I remember back when UT’s Darrell Royal had 3 very mediocre seasons in a row & Texas Exes all over were trying to have him fired. Can you imagine if they had all gotten their wish? I spoke with an NT alum yesterday & we both agreed that the air started leaking from SL’s balloon right after the Arkansas win. That seems to be when Seth’s agent went into overdrive & started shopping his meal ticket with more Intensity. As the story goes, the KSU job fell apart for SL when Bill Snyder insisted his son be retained by whoever the Wildcats hired. Well, no new HFC wants to be told who to hire as an assistant & so for SL it was—back to Denton town, but this time around with a purdy’ new (so un-G5’ish) world class Indoor Practice Facility. Personally, I feel SL went into a funk after the whole KSU affair & (maybe) he sulked about the whole thing, but $1.8 million per year worth of sulking was not going to fly in MG Country; especially when all around us were start-up schools with no name ID who were showing us how this college football business thing could be done & be done successfully. All upwardly bound HFC’s want fans to support their teams win or lose; especially one particular coach who played before sellouts at every game in Norman, Oklahoma. Seems few G5’s sellout. UNT set an all time “students in attendance” record a year or 2 back & then the rains came the next week so it became “where the hell are the students?” So what needs to happen in Denton now is that both the fans & the HFC show up simultaneous & if this “looks darn good to most of us” recruiting class is an Indicator, it appears SL is on the come-back trail. Ree “the Pioneer Woman” Drummond is coming to Denton in about 2 weeks—with her son, Bryce. She seems to have a slight case of empty nest syndrome? Her top-rated TV program is produced by a company out of London, England. In it, she mixes up her delicious recipes from a very fancy kitchen along with video vignettes of her family’s ranch life. Read about it in the link below & then watch her TV show—ladies & gents! https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/ree-drummond-life/a35038028/bryce-is-graduating/?utm_campaign=socialflowFBTPW&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social-media&fbclid=IwAR2aNyZ5i0G6fE9IXiY1sYWdgzdQtfMPDipT7mNsIZ8whBDkA0NV9_B_AWk GMG!

No one bragged about CUSA’s bowl W/L record in the 2012/2013 bowl season. Like I think we’ll find most everything else at the G-5 level, these things tend to go in cycles? 2012/2013 Bowl Season By Conference Conference Bowls Record Final AP Poll Big 12 9 4–5 (0.444) 3 SEC 9 6–3 (0.667) 7 Pac-12 8 4–4 (0.500) 3 Big Ten 7 2–5 (0.286) 4 MAC 7 2–5 (0.286) 2 ACC 6 4–2 (0.667) 2 Big East 5 3–2 (0.600) 1 Conference USA 5 4–1 (0.800) 0 Mountain West 5 1–4 (0.200) 0 Sun Belt 4 2–2 (0.500) 0 Independents 3 1–2 (0.333) 1 WAC 2 2–0 (1.000) 2

Hey HG! I just had to get yesterday off my mind. In 47 years of this I can’t recall a worse performance by our “D.” I felt sorry for them & for us. This Mean Green recruiting class that just signed on (on paper) is the strongest I can recall & it being against all the P-5’s we recruited against makes that easy to say. I don’t think SL will fire Bowen, but it may be something he needs to consider. He could be re-assigned. A QB coach to steer all our new QB’s is almost essential. 🦅❇️🦅 GMG!

SMU - Another QB Transfer
PlummMeanGreen replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Dykes will leave SMU high & dry. Texas Tech will give him a serious look when they have an opening. Still, most all FBS coaches want to show their talents before capacity stadiums. Can’t blame them. Skip Holtz is the exception. With his last name & record very surprised he hasn’t left Ruston, yet. 🦅❇️🦅 GMG! -
The thing is, we’re all passionate about UNT football. We don’t want to look like hayseeds when we’re around our TCU, Tech, UH, SMU, etc. friends. How passionate? Enough to where 99.9% of us will be back with this program come Spring football. Todays game was a reminder of what kind of recruits we desperately need to get thru the portal, JUCO’s or HS. That reminder came at the expense of another embarrassment by a school we’d never played & we felt bad about getting schooled by them. The ESPN broadcasters kept reminding all who were watching how many of our key players (& one All American receiver) were missing in action, but that was not enough for most of us so...... I punt on 3’rd down. See yall at Spring Football (however that plays out with Covid-19). 🦅❇️🦅GMG
