  1. Many saw this coming. Wonder what took so long? I liked his work. Hope he finds a good place to land.
  2. Harry mentioned on his podcast that during that era at SMU it was tougher grade-wise for players to matriculate. 🦅❇️🦅
  3. I can remember (& was reminded the other day watching the Longhorns Network) how after 3 seasons (1965-1967) Orange-bloods everywhere were wanting Darrell Royal fired. (DKR’s Texas Longhorns won a national championship in 1969). 🦅❇️🦅GMG
  4. This forum seems to have set the criteria for SL getting to stay or not, but I’d be curious to know what the Lovelaces, McNatts, Ryans &a handful of others have to say about it. Frankly, my guess is they look more long term at these kind of things. 🦅❇️🦅
  5. I see Army is coming back to Apogee; Baylor, too; UNLV also coming to Denton; others being negotiated by AD Wren Baker. •••Note: Is the CV-19 reschedule of Texas A&M & Houston already been done? ••• TCU has SMU on their schedule only thru 2024-but I’d wager the Horned Frogs extend it with the Mustangs; UNT on SMU schedule thru 2025, but I guess it may be extended & if not—the Notre☘️Dame Fighting Irish are waiting! (I JEST)! 🤠 https://fbschedules.com/future-college-football-schedules/ 🦅❇️🦅
  6. A hearty good luck, Siggers. You had some impressive runs & gave us some good memories. Good luck to ya’ at SMU. We’ll see you at GJ Ford stadium this September. Stay safe. 🦅❇️🦅
  7. I mean isn’t 65 the new 55?🧐 On Wednesday a “66” yo Delaware’ian will most likely take the oath. I think Seth Littrell hiring Phil Bennett is genius. I admired PB (from a distance) when he was coaching on Mockingbird Lane, University Park. In fact, I can’t remember North Texas ever hiring any assistant coach who was both a former FBS HFC & P5 DC. This could get fun & fun real fast. We should all be elated. We now have a course for the defense with focused recruiting for same. ••• Bonus: Texas HS football coaches throughout the Lone Star State know & respect who Phil Bennett is. 🦅❇️🦅
  8. What do some of you Stangers over here mean no rivalry?🙄 Golly! Have you not made one of these storied old classic matchups between the Stangs’ & Green’ers? I assure you it’s a fans fashion parade you’d never forget.😎 🦅❇️🦅
  9. I took this photo of (then) UNT student Craig Way with his mentor & broadcasting professor Bill Mercer at the 1985 UNT Homecoming game at old Fouts Field. ••• Bill Mercer did turn out some great sports talent in his Sports broadcasting department. Start with Dave Barnett, George Dunham, Junior Miller, Mark Followill, Rich Phillips & more. (Who’d I leave out)?
  10. Better tell your fellow Stangs on this video that this is not a rivalry.🙄 ❇️ Oh well...not one Mustang first down in the first half of this non-rivalry game as I recall.
  11. Since 1973 I can’t remember such experience & pedigree for a DC hire at North Texas. Now we can build toward having a bowl winner with a defense that complements our offensive.
  12. Bravo.👏👏 Good job, SL. Bennett is a well respected coach in Texas & our “D” just became better. 🦅❇️🦅
  13. It may be the nicest until someone else builds one bigger & nicer. The game of one upman’ship frequently has a new winner, right? 🦅❇️🦅GMG! ••• I would ask if UAB’s new stadium is on or near their campus?
  14. Bob Stoops ••• Celebrity Networth has Stoops networth at $18,000,000 (so he doesn’t need the money, but probably likes the challenge of helping his friend & fellow OU’er Seth Littrell. •••Stoops played at Iowa during Hayden Fry’s first 4 years as the Hawkeyes HFC. ••• This is a pipe dream hire, of course, but dreaming big is more fun than dreaming small. 🦅❇️🦅 GMG!
  15. Great find, NTSN!👍👍 (Where in the wide world of sports did you find it) ? My guess is a past edition of “North Texan” magazine? ❇️Congrats to the great Lance Dunbar! ❇️ GMG!
  16. Back in the 60’s it seems to me the East-West Shrine game was the prestigious All Star football game & I believe Gil Brandt was one of the selectors of talent for that game. (I stand to be corrected, of course) 🦅❇️🦅GMG!
  17. Absolutely what happened to it? 🦅❇️🦅
  18. Consensus obviously is that no one likes a a person to lose his job, but what SL did today was move up our Defense rebuilding project up a year; that is, if we get the right hire to replace Bowen.
  19. At Texas public universities isn’t there a 30 day hiring moratorium after you post this job opening? ❇️🦅❇️
  20. Get a DC from a successful P5 school who can develop players & is a recruiter deluxe, but he will ask for a minimum of $600,000, won’t he? Can’t see anyone questioning this move. Kudos to Coach Littrell. 👏👏 🦅❇️🦅
  21. 3+ years ago several on GMG said we needed 3 strong recruiting classes in a row to start making headway in CUSA. Some will never like SL, but some of us want to see him do well because we’ve had coach replacements in the past that were worse than the ones we replaced; in fact, some may say we perfected the art of doing that in Denton. Recruiting seems to have never focused on Defense. We’ve had bad luck with DL JUCO signees who never made it to campus for whatever reason. Whoever we hire on the defensive side in the future needs to be able to coach, but for UNT he really needs to be able to recruit. 🦅❇️🦅 Below are UNT alum (now UT football & basketball broadcaster) Craig Way with his UNT Sports Broadcasting professor one Bill Mercer. I took this pic at a 1985 Homecoming game
  22. You are da’ man, Mason Fine! 🦅❇️🦅 ••• Photo taken at the Arkansas Razorbacks game (won by the mighty Mean Green)! GMG!
  23. Darden is a true treasure. Hope he gets a very nice contract. God didn’t we enjoy watching that guy play football? 🎶Celebrate good times—come on! 🎶 Here is the last one from UNT to be on an NCAA D-1 (FBS) All American team best I can recollect. Mean Joe is the only African American on the team. *What an honor for an honorable guy. 🦅🇺🇸🦅 Thanks Dr. J.C. Matthews for integrating a traditionally Caucasian university in Texas (circa, 1956?) albeit should have been done in 1890. Also special thanks to (then) UNT Coaches Odus Mitchell, Herb Ferrell, Fred McCain, Ken Bahnsen & others. ••• In the photo is Playboys 1968 All American defense & I think NFL scouts helped to pick that team. In fact, I believe I heard Gil Brandt say that on local radio. Seated, left to right: Jon Sandstrom, middle guard (Oregon State); Joe Greene, tackle (North Texas) Jake Scott, defensive back (Georgia); Tony Kyasky, defensive back (Syracuse). Standing, left to right: Ted Hendricks, end (Miami, Florida); Bill Stanfill, tackle (Georgia); Bob Stein, end (Minnesota); Bill Hobbs, linebacker (Texas A&M); Bob Babich, linebacker (Miami of Ohio); Roger Wehrli, defensive back (Missouri); Rob Pritchard, linebacker (Arizona State) 🦅❇️🦅 GMG!
  24. Death by hanging over the guillotine? ▶️ To All: Kinder & Gentler Lighten up on all this with Littrell. There is nothing to be gained. We will not elongate or shorten his career at a G-5 UNT football program—we won’t & most know it. I did the very same thing to Darrell Dickey & never felt good about it after he left. Like you & me—they’re human & merely trying the best they can with what they have . DD had no facilities. SL has among the best in G5 & probably some P5’s. He’s a good recruiter, but can’t keep key assistant coaches—not his fault. Trying to get a good assistant coach who can both coach & recruit is hard (& expensive). Seth has another year or 2 on his contract so give that to him. For all our sake, I’d like UNT to lose its reputation as a coach’s graveyard so with that I hope SL is a raging success. I think most on GMG feel similar, but won’t say it. Actually, wouldn’t most of us want the same opportunity at our jobs if they were on the line? I would—if I weren’t retired.🙄 🦅❇️🦅
  25. Yes there is, but who at this stage of their high school development is going to be spot on with those few mathematical differences with 3 star rated talent? Results is what proves or disproves the uncertain science of recruiting. I know, this could go on & on but my part stops here. I pass the baton. 😐
