Which sport is more important to UNT?
PlummMeanGreen replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
Back in the day college basketball was what you did in Texas between Spring & Fall football. Glad to see that has changed some. Hope Coach Mac stays with us a few years so it can change dramatically at North Texas. (I still voted for Football). -
DRC: UNT guards enter transfer portal
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Amen, edcollopy.👍👍 Still curious what Einstein over at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis came up with this portal idea? I’m pretty sure their thinking could have never been: “Let’s see what we can do to help all the G-5 basketball schools (since they don’t get a significant plug nickel of NCAA FBS TV revenue).” -
DRC: UNT guards enter transfer portal
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
An alum gave me some reasons & important variables as to why Coach Mac will stay & family has much to do with it. “Not a basketball school?” Well, we haven’t been, but neither was Gonzaga 18 years ago. That can all change so fast in our microwave “cook it right now” society. I think most of us are blown away as to what even one win at the Big Dance did for the Mean Green Nation. I even ran into a recent transplanted New Yorker who saw my Mean Green gear at a local store who had a “your school did good” comment. •••Question: Wonder how TV ratings were for both our games? •••Non-basketball: Did anyone listen to Ex Mean Green football star & NT Athletic HOF’er John Lott on KTCK’s Bad Radio today? He’s been strength coach with San Diego Chargers of late. The radio guys spent almost 30 minutes with JL. It was a great interview & the NCAA Purdue win made him a very, very proud UNT alum. -
DRC: UNT guards enter transfer portal

Give an NCAA bureaucrat a rope with slack & they’ll come up with ideas such as the portal. Sure the portal helps a chosen few, but it also destroys a basic life lesson or tenet such as gifted kids being loyal to the original school who signs them. I hated this portal idea from the git-go because IMO it will take from the have-nots & give to the haves short & long term. Someone feel free to change my mind about this.☹️ ❇️🦅❇️ GMG!- 82 replies

You get the feeling, Tom, that this story is being repeated with UNT fathers & daughters all over the North Texas Metroplex. It certainly is with the father & son from the Hamlet family. Such good times. ❇️🦅❇️ GMG!

Mean Green return to Happy UNT Campus
PlummMeanGreen replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Love the positive spin of this CBS-11 video coverage. (Now 300,000 DFW UNT alums)? 😱 •••Did all this hasten the Super Pit 2.0 project across the interstate near Apogee? ❇️🦅❇️ Keep the Dream Goin’ Forward, Coach Mac & Team! We can’t get enough! Next year UNT students & Mean Green fans will fill the Super Pit for the first home game. ______________________ ••• 🔺When Hofheinz Pavilion (10K) became the Fertitta Center (7K+). Methinks this is how we (annually) get to the next level in recruiting with a rebuilt Super Pit or (preferably) a brand new one near Apogee Stadium. ❇️🦅❇️ GMG! -

Biggest accomplishment nationwide
PlummMeanGreen replied to greenjoe's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think we just lost all that acclaim to ACU, greenjoe. It lasted 24 hours, but we can get it back tonight with a win. -
Most who have followed this athletic program for close to half a century or more would tell worriers who (predictably) post these “can we keep our coach” themes; anyhow, I think most would tell that group to just enjoy the moment. In all actuality I guess its really a 🎶que sera sera🎶 kind of thing with any successful coach. ••• I just hope it’s not another one hit wonder moment because many of you would admit we have seen a few of those in Old Denton—New Denton or whatever you want to call our favorite school’s locale. Personally (like I’m sure most of you) I’m just enjoying the moment & I really hope UNT has begun an annual lengthy string of Gonzaga-like moments. ••• And U of Texas? 1 of our 2 Permanent University Funded schools? (Your welcome, ACU, glad we could inspire you). ❇️🦅❇️ GO MEAN GREEN ! WE ALL DESERVE ANOTHER GREAT NCAA MOMENT TONIGHT IN MEAN GREEN COUNTRY! THIS COULD BECOME A FUN & ANNUAL HABIT. 🦅❇️🦅

HORROR OF HORRORS!😱 Sounds like the Mean Green have a new fan!😬 A fellow alum said horror books aficionado Stephen King twittered a very nice comment on the Mean Green & their win. ❇️Of course, fellow UNT alums Eli Young Band have been twittering all season long. (They met & formed their country band at UNT—not 1 music major among them). 🎶 Songster Bobby Lewis expresses many of our feelings from last night. ❇️🦅❇️ BEAT VILLANOVA! GMG!

There are right at 7,000,000 Texans living in the North Texas Metroplex. ••• Last count, those local population numbers are larger than 38 states in the USA. ••• With such a blunder of our favorite school’s name (whether purposeful or not)🙄 & with our school having more connected to it locally than any 2 (maybe 3) other local universities enrollment/alumnus count combined & with that in mind—both an apology & correction should be in order, but we should not hold our breath waiting. ••• What we can do? Just 2 things— Win & make it where UNT planners have no choice but to expand Apogee Stadium & the fabulous Super Pit. 🦅❇️🦅

Coach GMac: Fly the team out to SF, load a bus then drive out & have a practice session in the Redwood Forest? Jeez-Louise, 1 PU Boilermaker at 7’4”& two at 6’10” ?🤪

Anyone here remember the Jankovich era at UNT?
PlummMeanGreen replied to stl.pony's topic in Mean Green Basketball
drex, weren’t you on the Athletic Dept. staff during the Jank’ era? Had he had a bigger budget he’d probably been a success, right? -
50 years of this & you want to beat the hell out of your favorite oak tree with your prized Louisville 34” bat. 😳 Someone at the DMN clearly approved that headliner to rain on our little Big Dance parade. ••• UNT should threaten to pull all its ads from the DMN for about a year & see if that does anything. If not—keep pulling them until it does. We won’t close the paper down doing that, but whoever is responsible could go work for the Groesbeck Journal. •••As most of you know, Texas Governor (& SMU football letterman) Bill Clements signed the bill that gave us the name UNT. Oh well...❇️🦅❇️

PlummMeanGreen replied to stl.pony's topic in Mean Green Basketball
UNT AD Wren Baker is on the selection committee according to a fellow alum. West Division champ La Tech should get consideration but with only 16 choices I don’t know. SMU being local would I’m sure help their chances by creating more local interest. I mean they do tend to help generate fans at Apogee, right? 🙄😊 ❇️🦅❇️
