‘22 LB Jax Van Zandt - Alabaster, AL
PlummMeanGreen replied to 97and03's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I read somewhere few days ago where they were related. “Pancho & Lefty” was composed by Townes Van Zandt just outside the Denton city limits in August of 1972. Texas Monthly(?) had a feature article on the writing of that song which SUMG made me aware of about a year ago. Best country video ever IMHO. ❇️🦅❇️ -
When Rick V was early in his AD tenure at North Texas he told me the USM of the 70’s was trying to emulate the Mean Green football program of the Hayden Fry era. Why not since back then North Texas was the only non-SWC school (besides the UH Coogs) that could get on DKR’s future Texas Longhorns football schedule & then.....low & behold we almost beat Earl Campbell & the Horns first time we ever played them in 1976. (The Austin American-Statesman projected almost 20,000 Mean❇️Green fans at that game). Consistency has been our Waterloo in Denton & is why we need Seth Littrell to be a raging success so we can stop all this 3 giant steps forward 5 backwards modus operandi. What North Texas has that we should capitalize & focus on are getting our share of almost 7,000,000 North Texas Metroplex citizens with many who are an hour or less from fabulous Apogee Stadium. ••• Denton County has almost 1,000,000 of that total population number. With another enrollment surge UNT could hit 50,000 students at our main campus. I think others in CUSA-West probably (silently) wonder what are we waiting on. ❇️🦅❇️

The 4 consecutive New Orleans Bowl years (with a Mean Green win over Cincinnati) seems each of those seasons we had very slow starts as far as wins go. Easy to see 2021 beginning that way with a hopeful strong finish. Who we kidding—Phil Bennett’s Defense is the key to 2021 because Seth Littrell’s offense will be lighting it up once all the new players know each other by first name. 2021 Schedule SATURDAY, SEP 4 Northwestern State 7:30pm ET | ESPN3 Buy Tickets SATURDAY, SEP 11 atSMU 7:00pm ET | ESPN+ Buy Tickets SATURDAY, SEP 18 UAB 7:30pm ET | Stadium Buy Tickets SATURDAY, SEP 25 atLouisiana Tech 7:00pm ET | Stadium Buy Tickets SATURDAY, OCT 2 OFF SATURDAY, OCT 9 atMissouri Time TBA ET | TV TBA Buy Tickets FRIDAY, OCT 15 Marshall 7:00pm ET | CBSSN Buy Tickets SATURDAY, OCT 23 Liberty 4:00pm ET | ESPN network Buy Tickets SATURDAY, OCT 30 atRice 2:00pm ET | ESPN network Buy Tickets SATURDAY, NOV 6 atSouthern Miss 3:00pm ET | ESPN network Buy Tickets SATURDAY, NOV 13 UTEP 4:00pm ET | ESPN network Buy Tickets SATURDAY, NOV 20 atFIU 7:00pm ET | ESPN network Buy Tickets SATURDAY, NOV 27 UTSA 2:00pm ET | ESPN network Buy Tickets ❇️🦅❇️

Interview with NT transfer WR Tommy Bush
PlummMeanGreen replied to NorthTexasSportsNetwork's topic in Mean Green Football
Good stuff! Mr. Bush has a plan. I think he plays for the Mean Green 2 years & then declares for the NFL draft if he’s as successful for the Mean Green as some believe he will be. ❇️🦅❇️ -

Welcome to GoMeanGreen, FlyEagle!🦅 Did you attend UNT & if not—where? Are you friends with the Texadas? Nevertheless, we’re glad to have all of you in the Mean Green Nation! ❇️🦅❇️ -
What if we get “one” to see the above video & then apply, get accepted & he turned into a carbon copy of the great Mean Joe Greene? ••• Or another one applied, gets accepted & thru the UNT Health Science Center facilities found a cure for what has caused each & everyone of us ultimate grief—cancer or Alzheimer’s?

I never knew that. I can’t wait to hear what UNT AD Wren Baker has next up his sleeves to keep the Mean Green competitive in the NCAA FBS facility arms race. ••• He doesn’t sit idly by waiting for paint to dry with his previous projects. My gut feeling says Wren B. & his blueprint team will have a new project that will be in conjunction with a super-expansion of the Athletic Center that will (in a creative way) also turn into an Apogee End Zone facility with a huge new video board, multi-use veranda, luxury suites & additional seating. ✳️ Just get out of his way—“in Wren we trust” is coming through! 🤠 https://www.unt.edu/story/ribbon-cutting-marks-opening-new-indoor-practice-facility ❇️🦅❇️

I stand to be corrected, but it seems we may have signed one named Mark Snyder from the Scott’s? SUMG, help me out here!😊 -
TV and Kickoff Time/Date updates
PlummMeanGreen replied to NorthTexasSportsNetwork's topic in Mean Green Football
Hayden Fry’s last UNT game to coach at Fouts Field was on a cold, frosty November night vs the Memphis Tigers. About 14,000 still showed & the Mean Green won that game. Any November day game is a gift for fans. ❇️🦅❇️ -
Check out these locker rooms. UNT’s ex-conference-mate Boise State’s are very nice. If any school is not an active participant in the NCAA facility arms race, that school can count on being passed by in recruiting. I think most of us feel confident that our UNT AD is a strong advocate of that theory. •••THE TOP 15 NCAA FBS LOCKER ROOMS (with photos). https://www.foxsports.com/college-football/gallery/the-15-most-jaw-dropping-college-football-locker-rooms-102016 ❇️🦅❇️

Any relation to former SMU Coach Tom Rossley? ❇️🦅❇️ -
6 wins for North Texas this Fall & then 2022 will become our dream season after this unique collection of talent all get 1 year of experience under its belt. Obviously, like at other FBS programs who are anti their Coach there are some who want Littrell to fail—yet some of us want him to exceedingly succeed. No doubt—a strange group of fans we are. I’m going with the Seth Littrell MG football program that went 9 & 2 in 2 of his earliest seasons in Denton & I’m also going with the 24/7 recruiting gurus who think our last 4 classes of recruits have each graded toward the top of CUSA. At most schools meeting such criteria usually culminates into the beginnings of a string of winning football seasons & I believe North Texas will join that “most schools” group in mere months. ❇️🦅❇️It’s All Good.

Top Targets in Louisiana
PlummMeanGreen replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Turnabout is fair play. It’s about time North Texas start making more inroads with its state of Louisiana recruiting. God knows other G5 schools in Louisiana have been poaching our Texas HS talent for years.- 1 reply

After a little Google research, I had no idea that it is end zone facilities that are the rage in the NCAA facilities arms race. It is unbelievable what is being spent on that part of FBS football stadiums across America. Since North Texas has a definite need to double the space in the Athletic Center, I have no doubt in my mind that UNT AD Wren Baker is already thinking outside the box to do much more with that project, but as it relates to Apogee Stadium. ❇️🦅❇️ PS: One NCAA FBS school incorporated a “Dave & Buster” type setup inside their end zone facility. It is an understatement, but more TV money could really come in handy in the G5. I really like how this school incorporated their end zone facility to mesh with their stadium, too.

Didn’t the Rice🦉Owls beat a ranked Marshall team last season? If Phil Steele made this prediction I’d come closer to believing it. All the other summer college football forecasters I take with the grain of salt & have for decades. For instance, Coastal Carolina was picked to be last in the SBC in some quarters last year. Now they are Top 25 in most pre-season rankings. Go figure. ❇️🦅❇️

Athlon projects the best of the C-USA for 2021
PlummMeanGreen replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
Seems when Coastal Carolina was playing BYU last season that during the telecast a sportscaster said the 2020 Chanticleers were picked last in the Sun Belt? Now they’ll be in every pre-season 2021 Top 25 poll. Seth Littrell’s offense will be fine. I think Aune will exceed all expectations, but I am interested to see a Phil Bennett Mean Green defense in action. UNT has had 4 good recruiting classes in a row & I think it’s shake & bake time. Methinks this team wins 6, goes bowling, but in 2022 this “experienced” team could do some very, very special things. •••Concerning Summer college football magazines? Whatever Phil Steele’s magazine says in a few weeks I’ll go with on summarizing our 2021 outlook. ⭐️And Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine? Still a lot of old SWC bias with that group & that’s all I‘ll say. ❇️🦅❇️- 7 replies

👍👍 Interesting......I wonder if they have greenprints🙄 or renderings as to what the expanded Athletic Center will look like? Did “in Wren we trust” say it would double in size? ••• Are they going to bring the AC closer to the field to add seating & maybe even more luxury suites to Apogee’s capacity?
