Hamlet Works Out For Dallas Mavericks
PlummMeanGreen replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Good luck, Javion Hamlet! GMG! -
Doesn't a few lyrics of this old R & B song sorta' size this subject up?

One who told me about this triple header this morning already said how nice it would be to have a pre-game gathering place for UNT fans. Well, one could not do any worse than this place which is less than 1/8’th of a mile from the Dickey Arena. They call it the UNT HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER. ••• Last time I recall us having a pre-game gathering there was In the 1980’s before a UNT-TCU football game which (btw) was won by...North Texas. (Wouldn’t you say the UNTHSC campus has grown quite a bit since the 1980’s)? ❇️🦅❇️

Great! This gives me an excuse to go see Dickey Arena in person. I hear its a palace. George Strait did its Grand Opening. In fact, I believe Strait closed the Astrodome with one of his annual live concerts he would have there. They did a "live" GS album with that closing show. I have that CD & it’s studio quality. Only other group who could perform as good "live" would be the Eagles? GMG!

I (and others) never thought we should have gone to last year's bowl games considering some of our situation, but no way an AD and/or HFC can tell his players "no" to a bowl game if they they meet the NCAA criteria to go to one. Chock it all off for experience I guess one might say with the payola down the road? GMG!

DRC: Summer magazines set low expectations for UNT
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
We’ve kept coaches on the North Texas payroll who were way under .500 in career wins & losses & then stuck em’ in the NTATHLETICHOF for being good ol’ boys (I guess) & unless I’m looking at a wrong statistic sheet, SL as of now is still at an even .500 in career wins & losses. Who knows, maybe if SL leaves UNT 20 or so under .500 that could clinch it for his getting a venue named after him? 🙄 Last UNT head football coach who left over .500 hasn’t as much had a broom closet named for him & he even gets a bad wrap because he took our favorite school out of an imploding Missouri Valley Conference that today is not even on the NCAA FBS radar. So just who eventually wins this war—-OldDenton or NewDenton? I know who better by-God win it (& so do most of you who are able to get visions of J.C. Matthews off your minds). ••• Whatever the situation, what Wren Baker, Lovelace, McNatt, Kuehne & similar come up with will more than be good enough for most of us. 🦅 -
“Easy to predict” but not necessarily? (Impressed with your knowledge of HS bands, Adler).😊 A lady friend who is a Fort Worth attorney & who was in the OU “Pride of Oklahoma” marching band thinks a college marching band can be too large. I might agree with her. Silver Eagle, myself & maybe another on GMG seem to like the Big 10 fast-stepping style, but those college bands seem to have maneuvering space on the field, too. I was at this UH Band Day at the Astrodome, circa 1966. Our Danbury HS Band Director Manuel Garza had a couple of us guys from our football team (at our request) come as “band chaperones” (with the excuse of letting us help with the larger instruments).🙄(Mr. “G” was a UT Longhorn Marching Band alum & a fine trumpet player in his own right). The Tonight Show’s Doc Severensen was the Celebrity Guest Conductor for this UH Band Day. UH Band Day was a fun “full” day & evening since the 13,000+ bandsmen had a 2 hour rehearsal that afternoon. UH Coogs won the game. (Eat em’ up). 😥Sadly, both the Astrodome & UH Band Days (of this magnitude) are a thing of the past. Give em’ credit, though, UH did dream big & that would pay off for them.

It is easy to predict that this will be their largest number of Green Brigade members in school history! ••• With 560 brand spankin’ new Green Brigade unis’ they’ll undoubtedly be the best dressed college marching band in Texas this Fall. •••The 2021 UNT Green Brigade has also been invited to ☘️Ireland☘️ next Spring to participate in a humongous Irish festival. 🗣Lucky y’all!🤢😆

USM (Brett Favre) vs UNT (Stone Cold Steve Austin)

DRC: Summer magazines set low expectations for UNT
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Again, Phil Steele’s College FB magazine & (maybe) DCTF magazine did their homework but not sure about all the other college FB magazines. The ones I’ve seen couldn’t touch Phil Steele’s who kept a running list of FBS schools portal transfers up until the day his magazine went to print. UNT’s big money guys (2 of their names are on the IPF); that is, those who’ve invested the most in this football program will have much say on Littrell’s future in Denton & that works to his advantage. I think SL needs to win a minimum of 5 games to be secure about his future & with all the new talent if just half of them come thru then I think Littrell will have gotten us thru this patch & be here as long as he wants so—-shouldn’t we just let the 2021 season be fully played out so we can all see what happens together? 🤢 ❇️🦅❇️GMG! -
Maybe for UNT someday .. BYU's new locker rooms
PlummMeanGreen replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Like many of you I followed much of this last year’s football recruiting here on GMG & on Twitter. Loved reading the players responses after they had fulfilled their official or unofficial visits to our campus. Many of us offered our “congrats” to them on Twitter for having a good time & a good visit. (Of course, other school’s fans were doing the same).🙄😊 Honestly, though, I can never remember as many prospects with stars, accolades, skins on the walls & who P5’s were interested in on their check lists commenting on how impressed they were with UNT’s facilities & venues this last recruiting season. •••Seems more are finding out about & seeing firsthand our Indoor Practice Facility which to me is the co-crown jewel to our football venues with Apogee Stadium still being the best on-campus football stadium in CUSA. (Sorry, UAB, but your new football digs are 3 miles from your campus & you’ll share it with another school & that school’s conferences bowl game). Back To Recruiting: Of course, we won’t sign all of them, but they won’t soon forget their visit to the Mean Green Village & now that’s especially important if they ever enter (or re-enter) the portal. Another recruiting positive benefit rarely mentioned are all the co-eds there are in Denton & at UNT not to even mention the world’s largest university primarily for women over in east Denton—Texas Women’s University. One could almost call Denton the college co-ed capital of the Lone Star State. ❇️🦅❇️ -
One of several, greenjoe, & if we’re not careful........(never mind, we now have Wren Baker).😎 At the return game in Tallahassee I remember the MGRN Bill Mercer describing their fans jingling their car keys in honor of the Seminoles star running back one Larry(?) Keyes. FSU had even considered dropping football a few years earlier—so did Miami.

Most definitely about all that, emmitt01. Bells & whistles some call it. 🦅 -
You who remember this game at Amon Carter Stadium please elaborate with notes about it if you will? •••What year was this game? ••• Its final score? ••• Anybody remember? Jim Wacker (may he RIP) said at the end of his show...“Baylor also had a tough loss” & that was the only way I knew North Texas had won from this video. (TCU was to play the Bears the next week for their homecoming game). ❇️🦅❇️

...& then in Horned Frog Country, uh, this? 😆 (See link) Might some things be said to disguise what the self righteous might have happening behind their own closed doors? IMO, the NCAA boys have opened up a can of worms while still acting so oblivious to the whole thing. Are they becoming as desensitized to college football fans as the Deep State has to We the Taxpayers who get to finance all their spend-thrift shenanigans? https://247sports.com/college/arizona-state/Article/Georquarius-Spivey-ASU-football-TCU-football-167789812/Amp/I 🦅

••• NT ticket manager & former SMU letterman (under Hayden Fry) one Wayne Ray during the week said the game had officially sold out. Well, due to the snowstorm there would be many “no shows” from D-FW. (I drove from Irving/Southlake area & it took me 1.5 hours to get to Denton). •••At the 1:00 minute mark on the video timeline & in the press box was WFAA ABC Channel 8 sportscaster Ray Gaskin who is with Mean Green broadcaster Bill Mercer (who is still with us & in his 90’s). ••• Must have been half a foot of snow on the field at old Fouts Field. One of the national news networks (NBC?) shot some video at the UNT-FSU game showing the orange highway cones marking yard lines for the refs. Post-game the Florida State Seminoles stayed on the field & had snowball fights. It was said to have been the first snow many of the Florida guys had ever been in. ❇️🦅❇️

Sporting News Ranking of FBS college football coaches
PlummMeanGreen replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Football
With the new NCAA 12 team playoff why don’t they just drop all this P5 & G5 crap? I feel now the G5 designation is a total discrimination against our group of FBS schools. Hell, they get their TV money so why do they have to further remind the world that we don’t by waging name classification warfare? ❇️🦅❇️ -

greenminer, but isn’t the facility arms race merely a true microcosm of life as it is in America? You know, keepin’ up with the Joneses & all that? 😊 Fact remains & as what one NCAA FBS AD said: “If you’re not building in the FBS, then you’re going backwards.” I would wonder if the Alabama Crimson Tide put an old broken down tool shed (made of tin) in the corner of their stadium’s north end zone how long it would take others to do the same—in their north end zones? 😆 -
I’ll repeat again: Austin Aune is not chopped liver. When 10,000+ Mean Green fans plus a 500 member Green Brigade Marching Band show up on 9-11 at SMU’s Gerald J. Ford stadium we will have the most experienced QB on the field. Having played the Northwestern State game the week before will be very important for this team. If Defense Coordinator Phil Bennett can have his Mean Green “D” getting enough stops throughout the game who knows what could happen at SMU. ••• I saw an Arkansas Razorbacks blog that had one guy on it who sounded like the Hogs would really miss UNT DL portal transfer Enoch Jackson, Jr. Per above link: NORTH TEXAS: AUSTIN AUNE A good chunk of Aune’s dropbacks last season came via play-action concepts, and most of those ended in downfield shots. He recorded the third-highest play-action pass rate in the FBS (58.8%), and his average depth of target on such throws was 16.0 yards downfield. He executed the offense at a high level, finishing sixth in the FBS in passing grade (92.2) and second in big-time throw rate (14.9%) on play-action passes. That’s precisely North Texas’ path to success in 2021. ❇️🦅❇️
