  1. Just watched film critic Gary Cogill of Dallas ABC TV affiliate Channel 8 and he said "Spiderman II" is the best movie he has seen in 2004. Heard another critic on radio this week say it was average. Guess we are all going to have to decide on our own, eh?
  2. What decade did "Jet" play, Greenblood94? Any hints on Jet? And early in this thread, a poster asked "Who was T.D".......
  3. Such dollar amounts for pro athletes amaze me when I think that is basically the kind of money some universities need to build a football stadium.
  4. UNTLifer, I am not playing the game since I started the thread but the "Lurch" that GrayEagle posts about had the best length of basketball court pass I've ever seen.
  5. Was hoping for some nicknames from 80's, 90's and 00's alums but guess there weren't that many (especially in basketball since we were mostly in the wilderness for "40 years" so to speak); but I've also been told by one of that group that this was an "obnoxious" thread. An earlier post at the beginning of this thread this morning asked "Who was "T D"? I have no idea but I'd bet he played football, eh?
  6. You're not answering out of turn at all BUT it is not Shindler unless some of you were calling him that name. I know who Gray Eagle's "LURCH" is but I am leaving that answer for someone else. Actually, I even had a class with "LURCH".......) Any hints for the guys (& gals) on "LURCH" , GrayEagle?
  7. Is that your final 'ansa, Big Al? well..........YOU GUESSED IT! I am trying to get on Scotties GMG.com Funky (corny?) Thread of the Week here--think I have a chance)?}:>) Remember now, you can get only 2 correct answers per poster and please post a nickname question after you guess one correct if you wish. ..................................................................................................................... NICKNAME QUESTION: Who in MG basketball was "Big City" ? ?
  8. YOU GOT IT! Way to go drex on "THE WHIRL" ! ! ! New variation to this game: If you guess at one of these, consider asking a nickame question for the rest of us. Thanks in advance.... ........................................................................................... In the annals of UNT history, who was "Fessor" ? ? Remember now, any poster can only guess 2 correct answers. Honor system here....
  9. That is "not" the answer------remember, he was from a mid-1970's Bill Blakely BB teams. Good try, though! So.....once again (one guess for a nickname per poster), who was "THE WHIRL" from Blakely's team? Already numerous views on this, but few guesses?
  10. Here is an easy one for you but (once again() from the 1970's.... Who was "WEASEL" ? Full name if you can, please. (Don't worry about middle names, though) Don't forget now: You can only answer 2 correct nicknames as to allow others to play the game.
  11. YOUR ARE RIGHT ON "Hatchet" who is present UNT Board of Regen Chuck Beatty. HINT on first nickname question: "The Whirl" was a guard fo a Bill Blakely-coached Mean Green BB team back in the 70's. He was known for doing all his "whriling" (and twirling around) and putting up the ball from most anywhere on the court, even when he may not have had a good shot. THANKS BLEEDGREEN64, for the nickname(s) but just "one" nickname per post, please (but I didn't say that in the rules, did I)? :Sorry, my fault on that................ I'll asnwer "ONE" of your nicknames: "Spider" would be ex Mean Green great Carl "Spider" Lockhart who I never got to see play football in Denton, but did on TV when he played for the NY Football Giants!
  12. Rick: Children's books? Thanks (I think)?!?! Now how could one who has no children write children's books? Not many in the 'Nation into nicknames, eh? Let's try again, here's another MG player's nickname: "Hatchet" ? ? ? ?
  13. Rules of this "guess whose nickname" game while we wait on UNT students to start filling to capacity all their dorms in a few weeks: ** Some of you know EVERY Mean Green player, campus leader or campus character's nickname most likely, especially many of you who have been around the Mean Green Scene a few decades. }:>) Feel free to post a "whose nickname" question no matter how difficult or easy you think it is, but no one poster can answer or name over 2 correct nickname answers as to make this fair to many of you who might participate. >>>>>>>> ADDENDUM: Only 1 (one) nickname question per post. (Just added this Wednesday AM). Feel free to post your own nickname question even if no one answers the one I've posted below. BUT....................if you have an answer to a nickname, make sure your post includes the post with the nickname question. Damn.....Please don't ask me to repeat all that lagniape again?!?!?!?!?! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> My nickname for "YOU" to guess: WHO IN UNT SPORTS IN THE 1970'S WAS.................."THE WHIRL" ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? IF you have no idea who on this question, post your own nickname question (perhaps someone from your era, too?
  14. Wonder who at UNT still has ties with "Dr. Phil" as to who might could talk to him about this idea if UNT Athletics deemed it as one they would like to promote?
  15. I think the UNT athletic department has to have a product to promote IMO. I believe Coach Jones is going to give that product to UNT. YET......Coach JJ started his career in Denton with about the same thing all his predessessors since Bill Blakely was on campus had, ie, N-O-T-H-I-N-G ! Sure we had some talent--just not enough to surround that talent with. drex, you know as well as anyone how difficult it is a to promote a losing product, not have an administration behind athletics and (for sure) not having an athletic promotion's budget.
  16. ....and for us older Houston Colt .45/Astros fans, whatever happened to Bob Aspromonte, Bob Lillis, John Bateman, Jimmy (The Toy Cannon) Wynn, etc, etc, etc ? How many hours did we all spend listening to Gene Elston and Loel Passe on the Houston Astros radio network? As a kid, one of my school friend's mother once took us out to old Colt Stadium (pre-Astrodome) to watch the Colt .45's take on the St. Louis Cardinals on "Stan Musial Day" in an afternooon businessman's special game. It was "Stan the Man's" last year and he was getting honored everywhere thoughout the National League. What a day! I can still see the stance and the sweet swing of the bat by the great Stan Musial. Those were the days when baseball players played because they loved baseball, not because of how high on the list of America's Rich & Famous they could climb. What great memories I have as a kid growing up in the Houston area.
  17. Wonder if this could be pulled off?
  18. I know I heard this at a MG Club Tarrant Meeting 1 or 2 years ago, but Johnny Jones did (in deed) do much of the recruiting of Shaq while he was at LSU, right? Someone tell me I was not dreaming that, OK?
  19. Wouldn't it be great to see O'Neil in a Dallas Maverick uniform and playing here in the Metroplex? Wouldn't it be even greater to see O'Neil sitting on the NORTH TEXAS Mean Green BB bench besides our Coach Johnny Jones who as a LSU assistant under Dale Brown recruited him for the Tigers? Interesting possibilities with this connection I think most might agree?
  20. Is that the one that future, uh, Dallas Maverick Shack O'Neil stars?
  21. Any M.D. or D.O. serving internship should have to watch this movie as part of their training. Be a good idea for all medical personnel to watch this movie for that matter BUT......most definitely a great flick for all of us non-doctors to see, too. Movie: "The Doctor" Starring William Hurt, Christine Lahti and Elizabeth Perkins Storyline: An aloof California surgeon becomes a cancer patient and begins to see things differently.
  22. Fanof49, was that the movie title on the marquee at the Texas Theatre where the Dallas police apprehended Lee Harvey Oswald? It seems the word "hell" was in the title of whatever the movie? It is great to see the older movies finding new life on DVD, though.
  23. Just one more cleavage shot of Monica B. and I'd needed a respirator. I like both movies to be honest. <>*<> On a much more serious note, CMJ, are you going to try to get out to the Ronald Reagan Library anytime soon? How far is it from where you live in Hollywood?
  24. CMJ, maybe the fact that sexy siren Monica Bellucci co-stars with Bruce Willis in "Tears of the Sun" played some part of some of our enthusiasm for the flick, ya' think?
  25. Totally agree.... Bought the DVD at WalMart and its in my library now.
