The Definitive Denton Restaurant Thread
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Just a few miles out of Denton, The Ranchmen's (Ponder) Steakhouse. Any close-to-Denton restaurant that was good enough for Fay Dunaway and Warren Beatty to eat at is good enough for me. Actually, many celebs have eaten at the Ranchmen's. -
Uh..........."Not that impressive running back?" You mean 1 out of the 2 of ours RB's that are both on the Maxwell Award check list? Don't they have medication for delusional people? This game is not even close with what I read they have coming back from their team from last year.

Worst NT Mean Green FB Promo Idea Ever!
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Should I have added: "The NT Branding Committee Fund" for the 5,000 t-shirts so NT athletics could assist them in getting the "new look" green out to the masses on September 17'th? ADDENDUM: Can someone find a link photo of the Baylor student section all dressed out in their gold (yellow) t-shirts? Very impressive looking in their student section all dressed alike and am very glad the BU'ers realize that green is the primary color of: THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS! ADDENDUM II: Double usage of this t-shirt in 2005... On the "Green-Out" t-shirt given out at the Sept. 17'th game is a mini-promo type-set in small boxed-in letters somewhere on the shirt that says: ...................................................... Wash Shirt/Wear Again for ESPN National TV Game @ Fouts 10/?/05, 6:30pm GREEN-OUT the Trojans! ...................................................... ** NT-graduated GRAPHIC ARTISTS, WANNA GIVE THIS T-SHIRT A SHOT for us to see on GMG.com? -
And the promo is called...............................MEAN GREEN-OUT ! ! ! Lets "Mean Green-Out" (or should it just be....."Green-Out"?) the NT Student Side of Fouts! A COMING OUT PARTY FOR OUR NEW SHADE OF GREEN: This September 17'th, the 1'st 5,000 NT students going thru the turnstiles get a free (new shade of green) NT Mean Green t-shirt to put on for our home season opener against Coach Steve Kragthorpe's Tulsa University Golden Hurricane team. Coach "K" is an ex NT assistant coach who once dissed our school after he left it---further info on that closer to Game Day). <>*<> Go to AD's office to change shirts if you must! OR.....wear the new t-shirt over what you have on OR just change into the new "GREEN-OUT" t-shirt inside the stadium...............fellas! (Now, I wonder how much 5,000 kelly green T-shirts would cost our school to budget either thru athletics or the NT president's discretionary fund)?

........what is the name of one (or more) of your traditional stop-overs ( for food, pit stop, etc) between your home town and Fouts Field? You know, as in the places you most always stop en route to Game Day at Fouts OR on the way home from the game? Also, which one of you think you travel the farthest for a Mean Green football game in Denton, Texas, America? .......................................................................................................................................................... My home: Weatherford, Texas Length of Drive: Approx 1 hour to Fouts Field Stop-overs? Mobile Station near Alliance Airport many times on way to a Mean Green football game and after the game will many times stop-over at the Salt Grass Steak House just off Western Center Blvd, Fort Worth proudly wearing my Mean Green gear and baseball cap!

Isn't this guy that big Troy U. benefactor???
PlummMeanGreen replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeppers, that's him alright, SUMG. He must have had one heckuva' lawyer because it didn't look to good for him a few months ago. Benefactor? That is a nice word; so is philanthropist if they are (sublimenal new stadium) giving to the right cause. -
State puts the brakes on some college plates
PlummMeanGreen replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
What amazes me about North Texas alums is how we can let a focused $500 GMG.com project begun by Harry and Cerebus take days to raise even just half that amount, but we can do a helluva job of discussing logos, brandings, color schemes and things that don't amount to a hill of beans most of the time because of (basically) few successes because we just spread ourselves too thin . While we fiddle around in our green-tinted Rome merely talking, talking, and talking, other school's alums are giving, giving, giving money to their schools non-stop. Memphis U with their version of the MG Club (called the Tiger Club) are now at $4.8 million raised for scholarships this fiscal year. "Middle Tennessee State's" equivalent of GoMeanGreen.com and its posters just raised $3,000 for an athletic project and that by its posters. But while this board discusses things that irritate us, we are still gr-unting to raise just $500 for a Mean Green coaches-led football camp for youth? We should be raising $5,000 for such a project. We have a long ways to go, folks, because we have 5,000 different "money need to be raised" projects that some (well meaning) GMG.com posters put on this board too many times, but we may be the most penny-ante group of alums of any university our size in the whole gol' darned USA. No revelation to most all on this board, but Big Time athletics is not cheap folks, I've been encouraged to double my MG Club membership by SUMG and he has succeeded with me because that is just what I am going to do. Do I have other monthly bills? Sure I do, just like the rest of you and this old nestor only has a single income coming into his coffers. SAY WHAT?.....................BTW, he may send me a ticking package for putting this on this forum, but SUMG repeated his Mean Green Club donation of $2,500 for the upcoming year just a few weeks ago. I applaud those who put their money where their mouths are and always have. We should all try to emulate what SUMG is doing. I for sure cannot match his amount, but I will (because of his persuasion) double my Mean Green Club amount in the next 2 weeks before the July 15'th season ticket renewal deadline. *** You know, even the Lord Himself praised the widow who just gave a little bit because that was all she had to give. Sorry, I know, separation of church and state, I'll get out of the pulpit. Sorry about this rant, fellow alums/fans, but this is just how I feel about all this. One can only imagine how campus officials feel about this "most talkative" board that many times does not put our money where our mouths are. -

At This Stage of the Game & All Things Considered
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
So I wonder why TCU is not so enamored with CUSA's regional makeup, especially its west division? IMO, only way NT gets into CUSA is if Tulane or Rice gives up football, but still we have another rather BIG (traditional) obstacle to get by to get in. I think MWC is where we point our sails, but we have some venues at Eagle Point Campus that need to be completed before anyone really takes us serious. -
The MUTS gang on their Delphi board raised $3,000.oo for a MT Blue Raider athletic need. Harry & Cerebus are asking for a minimum GMG.com donation of $500 from all of us to help with this Mean Green football coaches-led camp. For more details, see Cerebus' thread at the top of the pinned section. .......................................................................................................................................................... Cerebus say first three (3) $20 donors get 1 full year free of the Mean Green Report, too. Burks Washington, a great college linebacker who played at NT in the mid 1970's. I remember Burks, one of last year's NT Sports Hall of Fame inductees, having some pretty good games against the likes of Tennessee (an NT win), UH (an NT win), SMU (an NT win), etc, etc, etc. Everyone listed in all the aformentioned posts were pretty darn good, though. 2 of them presently being in the NFL sorta' proves that point.

Sportexe put in their Momentum turf for the Super Dome and will put in Omni-Grass at Fouts Field. ADLER previously posted that Omni-Grass could be transferred over to the Mean Green Athletic Village whereas the Momentum could not.

My NT Exes (un-named) source says that there would most likely be no problem at all with Coach Blakely. I've seen him in Lower Section E at several Mean Green football games the last few years to be honest about it. ...................................................................................................................... You know, on GoMeanGreen.com we mostly speculate, guess-timate, estimate, (sometimes) retaliate (but only with the grace of the Southern gentlemen we all are, of course); but in my heart of hearts, I really would be surprised if this thing with Coaches Fry & Blakely would ever materialize BUT................. we as loyal alums and fans can dream about such things happening as to create even more positive scenarios for our alma mater that will ultimately make the entire (paid or unpaid) University of North Texas constituency very happy. We all deserve that with our alma mater, now don't we? -

According to a top NT Exes board member, all that that happened with Coach Blakely and NT has been resolved. In other words, all have kissed and made up. After all, didn't Coach Blaklely get inducted into the NT Athletic Hall of Fame, recently? (Coach Spika was before my time as an NT student). GMG! -
Maybe Fox TV's Rick Renner just needs to ask the Colorado U Buffalos who were the #4 ranked rushing defense before Super Jamario Thomas (only) ran for almost 260 yards against that (then) top ranked defense. The research that is done about our recruiting, our team and one of its running backs is dismal at best. Guess we will just keep on placing 2'nd or 3'rd place in all these pre-season beauty polls, eh? .............................................................................................................. And Fry's 1978 team, Jack, was one that probably could have beaten a few other schools who went to bowl games that year. I suppose one of the most surprising things Coach Fry has said in one of his most recent visits to our campus was when he said (and I paraphrase): "If our better football teams would have been rewarded with bowl games, I would have never left Denton." A big part of Hayden Fry's heart is still with the University of North Texas and lest we forget, Coach Fry did have 3 sons and a daughter who graduated from our school. -

PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
This thing would have a fighting chance to succeed as long as all campus egos were held in check and completely left at the door. Lip service would say the ego thing would not be a problem, but actions behind the scenes would be the proof. Just like marketing, you sorta' see the results of the work being done with that with how many fewer empty seats we have at our stadium. How many of us would really care what they would call the new stadium or field, ie, naming rights for the 2, but I hope others in the NT administration, Board of Regents and athletic department wouldn't care either. I am sure Coach Dickey, his assistants and players wouldn't care if they called it Ken & Barbie Field as long as they get this new stadium in due time. BTW, wouldn't a new stadium at Eagle Point be the crowning jewel of one of those "wow" facilities Coach Fran of TAMU was talking about in the DMN yesterday? I think most of us would agree with this new stadium our name (suddenly) starts showing up many more times in the state of Texas Top 100 lists like another DFW school who opened up their new stadium a few years ago who had their name listed very impressively several times. <>*<> SPEAKING OF THIS TEXAS TOP 100 LIST: How many of you saw it yesterday in the Dallas Morning News? Did you notice which school that has gone to 4 bowl games in a row did not have even one player listed? Not that SMU will even sign one of numerous players who (very impressivley) listed them on this list, but being listed several times is the first big step to signing a handful of them next February; but I think we'd all agree that the SMU facilities had somthing to do with the fact that they were (in deed) listed several time; unless, it was their won/loss record of the last 2 1/2 decades that sealed the deal for many of these Texas HS blue chippers to want to list SMU as a school they might just want to attend.
