*** A NEWER VIDEO FOR YOUNGER UNT FANS & YOUNGER ALUMS TO PERUSE... “The Out of Bounds Catch!” ruined a many post-game Mexican dinners for we Mean Green fans who travelled to Austin for that game. I heard some of our elect chose to only drink pitchers of Margaritas instead. Some of us even had UT fans apologizing to us for the bad call as we walked out of DKR Memorial stadium because—even they knew. *** Our 1’st game ever against DKR & his UT team in 1976 the Austin American-Statesman wrote in their Sunday edition that North Texas had brought almost 20,000 apple-green clad fans to the initial game. Undoubtedly, UT, DKR & Austin were duly impressed, but then the wilderness walk in Denton would soon begin. Today, though, we are in better shape to catapult this athletic program forward because of UNT leadership we have at every battle station. 🤠FORWARD HO’ THE WAGONS! 🤠 (Funny how I always wanted to say that).🤢 ❇️🦅❇️

How much slack should Austin Aune have this season?
PlummMeanGreen replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
The 2001–2004 Mean Green didn’t put all 4 of their bowl teams seasons together until about half way thru each season as I remember. I think this 2021 MG team will not fully mesh until about half way in the season, too. If It happens sooner & UNT even gets wins some on GMG have said are un’winnable I think that would mean many of our portal transfers came thru earlier than expected & we are having a good 2021 football season. 🦅- 44 replies

Just speculating (like most on GMG do) but Wisconsin may have glanced at our scheduling history? For instance, we were playing Texas in the mid-1970’s when no one else in the Southland, Sun Belt & most of the present Conference-USA couldn’t even spell L-O-N-G-H-O-R-N-S, least of all scheduled them back then. That initial 4 game schedule with UT happened because of Hayden Fry’s friendship with Darrell K. Royal. No doubt there is a scheduling pecking order in Texas & UNT is about in the middle of it, but I don’t think it helps us to schedule & play schools below that middle part when you’re trying to build a positive perception with the fans & alums that UNT is trying to get out to Apogee on Game Day. ❇️🦅❇️

🗣 O—M—G! (again)? First, hoping Wren Baker is a bonafide keeper because he’ll do a helluva lot more good at North Texas than the alternative & once all this NCAA—UT/OU fruit basket turnover smoke clears he’ll get a good OOC scheduling formula going at North Texas. Seems he’s not too far from doing that already. ••• STILL.....Scheduling up is the only way to go up & that is what will catch the imagination of countless North Texas alums & fans many of whom are still —Missing In Action. We won’t get Top 25 rankings or votes playing former Lone Star Conference schools. Sorry, it’s true. TSU-San Marcos may cause “it” to happen for some of you because you can drive there(?)😳but it won’t do anything for all the UNT-affiliated ones whose seats still remain empty 10 years after Apogee Stadium’s debut. They expect better before they hop aboard. Nevertheless, a 2 games series with TSU-SM will not cause irreparable harm only if they beat us, but why put yourself in such a position for that to happen in the first place? 👀HAVE WE ALREADY FORGOTTEN? Is the Big 10’s Indiana U still the only P5 school to play at Apogee?😞 Then look at all the impressive list of P5 schools UNT played at Fouts Field & then start working for a future OOC schedule from that list. Remember when we beat the PAC12 Oregon State Beavers at Fouts Field? A Big 12 Baylor win by the Mean Green with it being 105 degrees at kick-off? A near win over Bobby Bowden’s Florida State Seminoles with a snow filled Fouts Field? ❇️🦅❇️

🏳 Check Mary Hardin-Baylor’s future schedule openings, too, while we’re getting all Texas warm, cozy & neighborly. Do a BYU home & home & see Apogee for the first time need extra seats to handle all the DFW area Mormons & our fans who’d see the ultimate value of such a matchup. Army home & home? That is a national game no matter how you slice it. It was also fun the last time they were at Apogee when we won with a last minute field goal. Seems some of the New York media were here covering the game, too? Follow the TCU model pre-Big 12 when they removed themselves from all the rest of the Texas sludge & went rogue. It really worked out well for them until UT & OU decided to go super-elitists. 👎👎

JUCO G Bryce Zephir Announces Commitment
PlummMeanGreen replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Johnny boy here he is several years ago at 5’6” before his growth spurt began. ••• Another Mean Green & NFL great Cedrick Hardman story we have here. As you’d know, Ced’ was 5’10” when recruited who grew to 6’5” 240 pounds while at UNT & before he’d eventually be drafted by the SF 49’ers “#1” in the NFL draft. ❇️🦅❇️ -
Not a fan of the “N T” stick figure lettering helmet of a very successful 1960’s era. I don’t think today’s recruits would like that design. either. is there an NCAA football Top 10 unis list to work with for a UNT uniform? ••• Seems Oregon U’s FB unis gets lots of coverage & attention in sports media. SOW looks good on chrome, black & maybe silver (or gray)? Gray pants & jerseys with black trimming & Apple green striping might be worth a nice photo-shop try? Please, nothing like the Philadelphia Eagles used to do with their unis’.

Bowl games were mentioned in the video. Here’s a Texas (PUF) school whose had some bowl difficulties. ___________________ The Texas A&M Aggies have appeared in 26 bowl games, including 13 since 1986. The Aggies have a 12-14 record, but have dropped their last four in a row, including last year's thrilling 43-41 OT loss in the snow in the Independence Bowl.

Love Fertitta’s version of Galveston. Growing up in Brazoria County, I was more of a Surfside Beach in Freeport sorta guy (30 miles west of Galveston). So was half of Houston it seemed. 🧐A Fact: The Brazos River runs into the Gulf of Mexico near Surfside Beach & Dow Chemical. Used to rent a surfboard there & surf on those giant “3 foot” waves!🤩 (Hang 10, baby)! Below pic is Surfside Beach, Freeport, Texas ••• Dow Chemical is near this beach. My late dad worked there for 37 years. Dow (under government secret orders) made agent orange during the Vietnam War. Almost 50,000 Americans died fighting communism in that war.

Isn’t what’s happening in the NCAA a microcosm of America today? In what seems to me a self-destructive NCAA rules committee whose leadership qualifications may be as questionable as the jackasses in the U.S. government who are running America today—both sides of the aisle. As in most things you’d find in a society run by greed—just follow the money trail & see where & to whom it leads. (Dammit! Sorry! Let’s just play some football)!😆 🦅❇️🦅

That which has been most of our passion up there (as in NCAA D1 athletics) has been dramatically enhanced by President Neal Smatresk. When Dr. Alfred F. Hurley finally came around to saying “Athletics is the main picture window of a university” that was a huge philosophical win because in 1980-1981 many of us thought he might very well lead the way to have football dropped. Some say he had much pressure from faculty & staff to make that happen. Al & Joann Hurley were kind & thoughtful people. Many of us were glad the 2 Brooklyn natives (& grads of St. John’s) became Texans & crossed our paths for many years. Many of us hope the present team of Smatresk, Wren Baker, the BOR’s & major movers & shakers can stay in tact because we all know what can happen when those who have much less going in the bigger dreams department & little ambition can do to this athletic program. Good intentions by good people are sometimes not enough? 🦅

***North Texas Kickoff Celebration Sat. August 14th***
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
W.E., gently coerce your friends to the home opener? It will be a good crowd because it’s also Band Day & if not too hot I figure the Green Brigade will debut their fantastic new uniforms. -
Gut feeling tells me “In Wren We Trust” stays at North Texas. Been wrong before, but I really think he feels he’s not completed what he knows he can accomplish in Denton (which I think could be some very dramatic projects that will separate us from the SMU influence for good plus—Wren will do it all impeccably honest). ••• To me the UNT upside is all northward & our future is still amazing. Burgeoning growth of all our various UNT-related constituencies will continue to be off the radar. ❇️🦅❇️

What’s good for North Texas football is good for the state
PlummMeanGreen replied to greengal's topic in Mean Green Football
All this is nothing a 10 year Mean Green football season winning streak couldn’t help solve. ••• A 2’nd round (minimum) NCAA March Madness win this basketball season could go a long ways, too. I’m as guilty as anyone, but we seem to expect long term respect can be based on short term success? 🦅❇️🦅- 11 replies
