I still feel TCU made a wise choice in joining the MWC and removing themselves from SMU, UH, Rice, UTEP and others similar. And that a reason I don't see being in a league with those same folks as our panacea; and I know some of you don't like to hear this part because I don't think it would happen politically anyway. All we need to do at NT is just take care of the things we do have control and I feel we have started doing just that at the new Mean Green Athletic Village. We need to finish that project with great haste, though, because the times they are still a-changin'. At NORTH TEXAS, we must be ready next time re-alignment comes or we could be caught with our pants down (again). At this time 2 years ago, would any of us ever dreamed TCU would be in the Mountain West Conference? TCU put themselves in a postion (facilities) as to where that could happen. Horned Frog alumnu$ $upport and butts-in-seats played a very significant part in that, too, because anyone on this board think the MWC was going to add a school that averaged 15,000 per home game?

For sure, because I even feel another poll coming on, too. 6:00 PM would be the better of the 2 times IMO, but being up against NASCAR at TMS concerns many of us I'm sure. This year's home schedule is still way out of sync in my mind's eye and I think as a result our attendance average will suffer so everyone do like meanjoe says in his every post: Join the MG Club & Buy Season Tickets--we need this to happen more this year than any in memory. 1-800-UNT-2366 (one phone call at this # today can make you feel real good--it did for me. BTW, some of us on this board are duly impressed with many of you who we know are first time MG Club members for this coming Fall. Had an alum call me on the way home from work expressing such yesterday evening. This all starts or ends with us, folks; well, maybe not ends but to what level our athletic program goes does start with people like you and me. 1-800-UNT-2366 (enuff' already)

I am not sure Scott Hall was as tall as listed, and for sure we all know he didn't run a 4.4 forty as Korey Washington does; but Scott has been a special player in the history of Mean Green football and played a huge part in helping resurrect this program. He did play in 3 bowl games as I recall. He will be in the NT Athletic Hall of Fame soon IMO. I agree, Jack, it should really be hard for us to feel sorry about ourselves at QB, especially with our offense which depends moreso on who your RB's are. You, I and others on this board have been around the Mean Green scene when there was absolutely no talent at QB, so today we look QB rich compared to those days. If we have plans to take the RS off of Korey Washington this Fall if I were Dickey, I would put in a few wishbone formation plays. Talk about something that could confuse some defenses out there. And now you have a QB that runs a 4.4?!?!? Passing can be a developed talent as that was the case with even Byerly. Yet one or two of you have told me a healthy Meager would be hard to put on the bench. I am sorry if Byerly is inelgible and wonder how one who was awarded a starting QB role could have ever let himself get in that predicament. To say the least, we have a most intriguing season ahead. One that could really be fun for us spectators as we watch some of these kids develop. I still say we will have the best team in the Sun Belt toward season's end, but the first part of the season concerns me a bit now (as I know it does many of you).

The "Players to Watch" section was from the 2004 Texas Football magazine coverage of Cedar Park, you know, the one that had Patrick Cobbs on the cover with the other Texas collegiate players? I would not have posted that had it not been just as it said because I am not a fiction writer here; but I do speculate on most other subjects on GMG.com as much as the next guy. Again, last time we had a QB thrown into the fire, we had someone (a freshmen, matter of fact) take us to a bowl game that we actually won and that QB did not have near the backfield that this Fall's starting NT QB will have. From the post that has Washington's photo, he was closing in on 1,000 yards passing for (basically) a rushing offensive team at Cedar Park, so I don't know how it could be said that passing the football is completely foreign to the young man from Cedar Park. I did hear QB Meager will be healthy by 2-a-days from what one source told me AND I also heard a healthy Meager would have most likely started over Byerly this Fall, too. GMG!

QB Meager still has the rest of the summer to mend. I have to see a press release from NT Athletics before I believe Byerly is completely out of the picture. BUT...............if true frosh Korey Washington were to get some playing time this Fall, wouldn't he be the fastest QB we've had in Mean Green Country in ages (if ever). We've not had any real speed merchant quarterbacks at NT in times past. Even NT Athletic Hall of Famer Kenny Washington (OU Joe's brother) of the Hayden Fry era only ran a 4.7 forty but had good moves and a pretty accurate arm.

NT jealous of La Tech?!?!?!? Thats like John Holmes in his prime saying he was jealous as hell of Billy Barty. -
From the 2004 summer edition of Dave Campbell's TEXAS FOOTBALL a little blurb concerning future NT signee Korey Washington of the Cedar Park Timberwolves: Players to Watch: QB Korey Washington, 5'11', 181, 4.4 forty 2 other NT recruits played QB last Fall: Arthur Stubblefield (Aldine Eisenhower) Antoine Bush (Tyler John Tyler) Texas Football's recruiting expert Randy Rodgers (and father to ex NT linebacker Jeff Rodgers) says this of all 3 ex Texas HS football QB's who signed with NT: "Each of those players could make an immediate impact with their athletic ability alone."
-
Ahhhh, the joys (and the products) of Texas High School Football (best HS football in this galaxy) ! I'm being redundant (all over again) as Yogi B. might say, but I am just not worried about the QB situation with our Mean Green offense.
-
Some of the best QB's in college football history were recruited as DB's. DKR had a few at UT back in the day.

Subway OR New York Subway?!? There is a BIG difference as only the 'Nation would know. ............................................................................................................................... Better to know these things now than when NT frosh, ie, the great Andrew Smith learned it just days after the Texas Longhorn game that we would be our starter and that when Scottie Hall tore the pectoral muscle and was out for the year. Sorry, I am not panicking over this at all with the kind of offense we "run" and this QB business at NT should not give our SBC opponents some false sense of hope, either. Now if you told me we didn't have those 2 Mean Green RB's!

How Many of You Plan On Giving To The Mean Green

"Well, I don't won't to join the Mean Green Club because I simply don't like the janitor over in the NT Athletic Department who looked at me like Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion just the other day." 'If they think they're getting any of "MY" money they have another thing coming!" Of course, I am being facetious with that silly example, but there have been many excuses we've all heard from others who chose not to join the MG Club in the past and maybe some even more ridiculous than Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion. This is not Lee's, Norval's, Bobby's, Rick's, Darrell's, Hank's, Jubb-Jubb's, Mandy's, Gabe's, Johnny's, Tina's University of North Texas. This is "OUR" University of North Texas. One day many of our present NT athletic employees will all have their Big 10 or Big 12 jobs, but what kind of legacy they leave behind in Denton may not be completely on their shoulders, yet it will largely depend on what kind of monies we were able to contribute to NT while they were holding watch and leading the troops at our main campus' athletic department. SUMG is right, other schools we'd like to think we're way ahead of in most every way have significantly more members in the scholarship fundraising arms of their respective athletic departments. U of Memphis (ex Missouri Valley league-mate of NT's) is closing in on $5 million for their Tiger Scholarship Fund (formerly the Tiger Club) this year. Shall we even discuss what Universiy of Louisville (another "ex" Mo Valley league-mate of NT's) is bringing in each year? Anyone detecting a trend with all this "ex" Mo Valley league-mate of NT's" business? Money and what it did for UMemphis and ULouisville took both our ex conference foes out of their respective dark ages. Again, if it's not us of www.GoMeanGreen.com making it happen at NORTH TEXAS and the Mean Green Club, then just who in heaven's name is it. 1-800-UNT-2366 -

Come on now Ktulu7, smack is very therapeutic for all of us. It can get ugly when some want to bring it to a personal level, but this is all about our respective alma maters and all 119 NCAA D1-A schools are always much better in July than they sometimes prove to be in November or December. This is all harmless stuff and you'd find most anyone from this board or your own BB & B's would help anyone in distress no matter what school they attended. So in that regard, I guess one might say: Our barks are bigger than our bytes? -
Besides NT's Outland Trophy Nominee, D. Lineberry
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Always good to read speculation that another NT offensive lineman (Chad Rose) could possibly be as good as our Outland Trophy Award nominee, one Mr. Dylan Lineberry. I think depth will obviously be our main concern this Fall; anyone know if we have potential offensive line depth coming in the form of transfers, JUCO's, etc, ? -

If winning games against the Big Boys has been such a panacea for La Tech, then (with all the momentum such wins surely must have given your school); anyway, because of your less than a handful of big time wins, when does La Tech open its new $7 million state-of-the-art Athletic Center; when do you all install that new Daktronics scoreboard/instant replay screen that all but swallows up most of one entire end zone; when does your school install "brand new" Field Turf or Omni-Grass on that natural grass field at J.A. Aillet Stadium; and when does LTU start talking about plans to have an indoor practice facility? Surely those high profile wins would produce for your school at least one of the aforementioned, now wouldn't it? So do you want me or anyone on this board to tell you what the University of North Texas has been able to accomplish in athletic facilities since we have (somewhat) followed the Marshall U model of dominating a MAC-type conference? You want to know what that has done for NT, over the occasional flash-in-the-pan one hit wonder of a college football upset over Big Boy U? Then read the first paragraph of this post all over again and that will tell you exactly what NT has been able to add to its athletic coffers, specifically for football. -
How Many of You Plan On Giving To The Mean Green
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Just spoke with NT Ticket Manager Gabe Fitzpatrick and he told me that $250 is the smallest donor level available for the Mean Green Club. Of course, $250 has some pretty nice percs, too, and monthly payments toward that $250 are available. Some on GMG.com who have never joined the MG Club but want to get this tradition started for themselves now may consider putting $50 down and then have (only) $20 monthly payments the next 10 months--NT will send out a monthly statement to you. Anyway, that will get you in the MG Club and listed in the 2005 Game Day football program if you act now (among other percs that I predict you will like). <>*<> How much can a young family or any family spend one night a month on pizza? Probably well over $20? .......................................................................................................................................................... 1-800-UNT-2366 to join--someone is at that phone number even now just ready to talk with you. .......................................................................................................................................................... Can't we as GoMeanGreen.com members make a dramatic & significant difference for the MG Club as it tries to reach 3,000 in membership? If we are some of the best fans/alums this school has and we don't take up this cause, who could we possibly expect out there that would? 1-800-UNT-2366 -

DR. PHIL, we have another patient for you who has terminal Bulldawg-itus' on the brain and is a bit delusional to boot! Most of the pre-season college football magazines I've read do not concur with you at all. Of course, I've not read them all, but I've read all I need to read. You, sir, didn' even know NT had an Outland Trophy Award nominee on our offensive line this Fall. What else is there we need to inform you? You have (at best) a laughable forecast of our game with La Tech. They will not realize whats hit them once the Emerald Express (Sir Patrick Cobbs), Super JaMo (Thomas) and their teammates finish business that Fall afternoon in J. Aillet Stadium. This is no smack board fun talk with what I am saying, either. -
I could always add another poll to get folk's minds of all this QB business, couldn't I?

Just seems too early to know on Byerly's elgibility. Meager would have challenged Byerly for the starting job during 2-a-days from all that I've heard. Look for one of the true freshmen who played QB at his Texas HS to start taking snaps immediately during 2-a-days and might that just be Korey Washington?
