Denton County now has almost 560,000 population from a DMN blurb I read last week. U.S. Representative Michael Burgess (who has attended many Mean Green games in recent years) needs to work his magic with the federales to get that Super Bridge built connecting the main campus to Eagle Point Campus and the Mean Green Athletic Village. Anyone hear how that project is coming along if it is coming along at all? GMG!

Most important game for MUTS- Bama?NT?
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Uh, MG61, you're the only one from the MG Nation with a thread on, uh, "GO-PIDDLE"! (Give me time, though). -
**With NT going to be on the only DFW D1-A school in town on September 17'th, would it be super if we had record numbers of media requests to be at this game vs the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa U? BTW, I think SMU will be at TAMU and TCU plays 2 nights before as they host new MWC rival Utah in their MWC debut at ACS. .............................................................................................. ** With NT being the only major college game on S. 17'th, wouldn't it be great if we had many, many Denton County transplants come see what all the MG fuss is about? ............................................................................................... ** Who is going to be the first to get a photo posted on GMG.com of the new "Back-2-Back" billboard that is going to be uniquely put on the back of our Fouts press box? Any bets on that one? ............................................................................................... ** Wouldn't it be cause for celebration everywhere in the MG Nation if the NT players who might have academic problems ALL get declared elgible for this Fall semester (and then stay that way the rest of their collegiate careers in Mean Green Country)? ............................................................................................... ** Wouldn't it be great if NT's potential Big Donor(s) would be at our home season opener on September 17'th and be sitting in either the Chancellor's suite, the President's suite or be on the Fouts Field sideline with the coaches and the Mean Green? ................................................................................................ ** Any chance we have another record setting NT freshman class and they show up in record numbers at Fouts Field this Fall? ................................................................................................

Crip*TeamKATT, I am (obviously) dating myself here, but I got to see LSU great Billy Cannon play some football; not in Baton Rouge, but for Bud Adam's Houston Oilers. He was something else! I work with an LSU'er here in Fort Worth and we are having some fun banter with this LSU Tigers/NORTH TEXAS Mean Green game.

Of course, that is one of the reasons for church, right? I don't like the over-use of profanity at any school's football practice, though. There are words that can be used that are just as effective I'm sure, I just haven't discovered what they are yet myself. Were there many kids at this scrimmage?
-
MG61, you may want to consider linking this thread over at our good friends board from La Tech. Some may just completely go over the edge when they see how low they rank as compared to NT. I do want to nominate Bulldog, Barks & Bytes as the "Best Fiction" collegiate message board and (who knows) maybe we can present to them a special award post-Homecoming game in Ruston this October, eh?

Here are my thoughts on the scrimmage
PlummMeanGreen replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
We obviously do have concerns at QB just as we did in 2001 when we had no idea what we had during 2-a-days back in that day, but if we had a QB-dominated offense then we'd be in bigger trouble; but we all know that is not the case in Mean Green Country. Said it before but look for whoever starts at QB to be under the watchful eyes & tutelage of Darrell Dickey and Ramon Flanagan. Look for them to handle these 2 QB's just like they did Andrew Smith when Scott Hall was lost for the season in 2002. They will not let these kids do things (IMHO) that will cause either to feel that its all completely on their shoulders. I think our coaching staff will just ease both QB's into the 2005 season Many have expressed their concerns about Meager non-stop before he has even started one game at NT, but one concern about Phillips is why he had no 'ship offers until the end of Spring; that is, unless he is just one of those Texas HS football stars who just simply fell thru the cracks. Matter of fact, at NT we've had many of those kind of athletes now haven't we? Some of that group even made it to the NFL. BACK TO MATT: So I get my trusty 2004 Dave Campbell's TEXAS FOOTBALL magazine and it has Matt listed as running a 4.9 forty, so if anyone is going to have to depend on the strength of his arm and thus the passing game it would be Matt (since at 4.9 we are hardly going to ask him to be a running quarterback at NT and at a D1-A level of college football). Yet in another sense, one of the great needs of this "run dominated" NT offense is having a QB like Phillip's seems to be who can throw that soap on a rope way downfield for a Johnny Quinn to run under for some long gains; but moreso, a way to keep 8 or 9 off the line of scrimmage waiting for Cobbs and Thomas to work their magic. Matt Phillips has still won this alum's admiration inasmuch as he has come into Denton with (somewhat) the underdog role (having had no 'ship offers and all until almost the first of the summer); he has gone into 2-a-days and Fall camp with an apparent reckless abandon "nothing to lose" type attitude such as that of an old West gunslinger and because of his efforts, has impressed the NT coach's (and Mean Green fans who have seen him play). All this an obvious reason why he has worked himself up the depth charts as one of our top 2 QB's. Good luck to both Dan Meager and Matt Phillips. We need both of them to stay healthy in order for this football team to advance. GMG! -
I see this as more of a down home Louisiana-style welcome to NORTH TEXAS who hasn't been to J. Aillet Stadium since November of 1977 when the MEAN GREEN slobber-knocked what La Tech thought was one of their better teams and the score of that game? NT 41 LT 14 Unless NT comes into Ruston completely decimated by injuries or our players all have a case of the Hong Kong flu, I just don't see the La Tech "D" being able to handle this Mean Green offensive team. La Tech has one very good linebacker, but he can't do it all by himself, especially if he's double-teamed most of the game. I think this October 22'nd in Ruston I know one SBC team thats going to change a few minds concerning the league some La Tech fans feel the need to distance themselves. There are other La Tech posters who are very quiet on the "Belch" issue because they know that is most likely their future home. GMG!

Looks like the MUTS have gotten into the "award nominee in articles" game, too. Wonder which SBC school may have inspired that? That's OK because it tells some of the others who seemedly are (sometimes) intimidated by a 5 year old football conference that we do have some talent. I have in mind a handful from the WAC on that statement as I don't think we are intimidating many others. Seems after reading their board that they are concerned with some kind of lack of experience from their receivers corps. Do any of you who read their board get the same drift on that subject? Of course, this is the time of Fall practice that some 1'st year newcomers are the 2'nd coming of whoever, yet MT with a good QB but without many experienced receivers seems to be something that could be an "early season" pitfall or glaring omission? Probably just wishful thinking on my part, eh?
-
Glad to hear QB's Meager and Phillips had some good moments today. If they are #1 and #2, I wonder who would be shaping up as #3 ?
-
Remember how we had so many questions about our team back in 2001? We had no idea what we had at QB? Remember how so many publications picked MT to win it all back then, too? They were the "sexy" one in the SBC at the time, as some publications seem to be back on the MT sexy bandwagon theme once again this summer. Of course, back then we didn't have 2 RB's such as we have now that have garnered national headlines for NORTH TEXAS and DENTON in numerous publications with a very large top of the front page photo of our 2 guys in USA Today and that just days ago; but we did have Galbreath back in 2001 and some outstanding linebackers, too, (among a few other key positions with some unproven talent back in 2001). Lets all just hope that history repeats itself in 2005 and that this year we pick up at least 2 OOC wins, too.

DG, you might be proud of me for this (because all my relatives are), but I've actually joined and been going to "New Stadiums Anonymous" (NSA) meetings of which all of these get-togethers begin with something like this: "Hello, I'm PMG, Lower Section E'er @ Fouts Field--Denton." (group response)>> "Hello PMG/Lower Section E'er" and that response from those who have the same problems as myself just really gives me a case of the warm fuzzies. Then our hardy little "hopeful for new stadiums" support group share some very true-to-life heart-wrenching personal stories of each of our respective old stadiums that have gone bad, ie, splinters in our butts from old wooden bleachers, mens bathrooms that had a miniature "Wailing Wall" smack dab in the middle of the whole bathroom with nowhere to eliminate without splashing on someone elses shoes; light bulb tales galore such as those that have fallen out of rusty old light fixtures while bouncing off the top of NSA group members heads onto the cold, stark unpainted concrete of an old worn out stadium; and in general, these meetings with themes of new stadium dreams not yet fulfilled. BUT........these "NSA" meetings are somewhat like the old brush arbor fundamentalist church-style meetings with every kind of emotion you can possibly have. We had one of our members with (unbeknownst to us) Turet Syndrome and we all thought he was going into one of those speaking in tongues deals until his TS medication fell out of his Rebok sports jacket--it was a pretty darn scary moment for some of the women in our group. Yet our Turet Syndrome buddy had photos of his colleges old "wooden" rickety stadium (that they still use to this day with his disaproval, of course); anyway, he told us that old wooden fixture of a stadium was only being held together by termites all holding each other's little hands (bless the little critter's hearts). What a story that was! It was the highlight of that NSA meeting (other than his scary little fit that we thought was merely some kind of personal religious experience for him--although we are a secular group). BTW, all our meetings are held in stadium press box media rooms all across this part of the Lone Star State. It's reassuring to all of us to meet in such an environment that keeps us from a certain extent from getting new stadium anxiety disorders. Some of our members are beyond help in that department and there has not been any medication approved by the FDA that has been found to be effective. It is our understanding that NT grad Dr. Phil McGraw is very aware of our special unique group's problems and the noisy old chrome-domed ex NORTH TEXAN shrink has even penned a new book especially for those with our problems AND it soon to be available at your local book stores--it is entitled: TALES OF FOOTBALL STADIUMS GONE BAD WITH WAY TOO SLOW PLANS FOR THEIR REPLACEMENTS (With a 10 Step Recovery Program Enclosed CD--$19.95)! Hey! Dr. Phil even said that he would accept our invite to be the keynote speaker at our national NSA meeting to be held in conjuntion with the Dallas Cowboys groundbreaking of their new stadum in D-FW's hyphen city, Arlington, Texas, USA. I'll get back with GMG.com with a report from our national convention and any New Stadiums Anonymous (NSA) meetings or announcements as they transpire. PS To Hunter Green: We "always" put capital B's and D's on the, uh, 2 strategic words, ie, ""B"ig "D"onor!" PS II I will post a toll free number later where you all can send your tax deductible donations to our "New Stadium's Anonymous" group. PS III: If you've spent all this time reading all the aforementioned tommyrot I've just posted, you've got to do something pretty quickly to get some semblance of a new life! Of course, the one who posted all that began to immediately lose what normal life he had left on that black letter day in 1982 day when NT announced we would de-elevate our athletic program down to NCAA D1-AA status and join the Southand Conference. It has been a very slow process in coming back to a normal existence from that 12 year 1-AA existence in what some have called a sports version of the Bataan death march for NT alums & fans who had to make that 12 year march. uh.............GMG!

God how I love a poll! Actually, you left one thing off, Deep, that I would have put as a choice and in keeping with my own tradition, it would have (of course) been a very wordy phrase saying: "Temporary Home of the Mean Green" GMG!
-
If we had 5,000 more fans like Curtis, we would be further down the road with our athletic journey and progress than we are (not that I'm complaining about our current situation or momentum, either). Congrats, Curtis! GMG!

Jamario Thomas averaged 6.9 yards against Big 12 competition last year and 6.3 yards against SBC so I think he understands pressure by now. He got more yards in front of larger audiences than he did vs SBC schools. I don't think JaMo or Patrick Cobbs think twice about all this national pub just knowing what we have read about each of their dispositions. I think this national pub is good for ALL of NT, Denton, Denton County and DFW NT Exes and hope thousands from all these various constituencies honor these 2 young men and their fabulous Mean Green teammates by just simply buying tickets on Game Day (or before) and showing up en mass at Fouts Field.

Huh? In Denton, Texas, America, hype about anything Mean Green is NOT by any means dangerous. Maybe its I just don't get your drift in what your are saying about this, perhaps? I believe GGII did bring this idea up several months ago matter of fact. New fans/new faces! That's what its all about in Mean Green Country these days! Isn't this journey we're on one helluva' ride for all of us no matter how we like our shades of green or even our logos?!?

I liked that new NT eagle logo from the git-go; now if they could have just put an "N T" near the eagle then you have a "non Philly Eagle" winner of a cap! Of course concerning this subject, I thought Rick V and NT Athletics were sorta' pushing, uh, "Mean Green" over anything of an "eagle'ish" nature? Also, if all will recall, this new eagle logo did not come from (or came as a suggestion from) the NT Athletic Department, either. When Fry was once asked why he chose to emphasize Mean Green over Eagles, he said there is only "1" Mean Green in NCAA D1 college athletics and numerous schools with eagles as their mascot. -

If the new MG gear branding takes as long to be available in stores as when Helwig and company's were back in 1995, we all might have a 3 year wait before any stores (outside of Denton's who sometimes take their time, too); anyway, it may be a while before any DFW stores carry any of our new officially licensed stuff. Look at TV coverage of NT, they are still using the fonts and logos from the Helwig era, ie, the UNT in the circle with the burnt orange and dark blue. I think we all see UT and TAMU gear in so many different fonts and styles, its hard to determine what their school's officials have now as their official "up-dated" brandings. Of course, on the other side of that coin, we didn't have Lids type stores (for us in the Big Cities) in the mid-90's, either, whose main focus is college and pro caps. The ones in the post above are super, super nice but who the heck outside this board knows what eagles those represent? Many transplants (or even native Texans for that matter) in the DFW area would swear those 2 caps represent the Philadelphia Eagles. -

Perhaps instead of the bolt, maybe a long thin bar about the same length? -
That is, injury talk on the Frog Fan Forum main board and not the FFF premium board as I understand it. I think most injury info that is discussed on GMG.com bascially comes from the injury reports of the Denton Record/Chronicle. Hate to say it, but this seems to be a trend among many D1-A programs, and am not sure its so bad an idea at times and those times are when it gets out of hand; but I think complete censorship could be counter-productive as to keep a school's fandom interested in their alma mater's program, too. I do have mixed feelings on this entire subject. Also saw this TCU info on the MWC board, too.

DRC 3 new dorms planned, one on Eagle point
PlummMeanGreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Wouldn't a nice (curved to fit the north end zone) high rise dorm at our new football stadium be just what the doctor ordered? Don't think that is what our BOR's have in mind, but we can always dream, eh? -
Unbelievable FB Season Ticket Prices For Recent NT
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
shameless bump... We have some seats to fill. -
So this means that when our Mean Green D knocks out the starter in the first quarter of our game in week two we will be chasing their THIRD string QB! ←
-
Hope its all good and all green! Also, didn't Hayden Fry get inducted in the Houston TD Club tonight? If so, maybe SW Sports reports it. They are having the Astros wrap-up show now but will have their main sports show in minutes.

Of course, lest some forget, this was to be Drew Smith's team to QB this Fall, but a Higher Power had other plans for the great Andrew Smith...............#12 JUST CURIOUS: But is it time for Korey "Special K" Washington to get a closer look at QB for insurance? He had some pretty nice numbers as a QB who (like Meager) also took his team to the Texas UIL state play-offs. Is Dickey and Flanagan heading in that direction? Harry/Cerebus: Any thoughts on that? GMG!
