  1. How does NT make up the $500,000? WE COVER THIS WAY: (1). 5,000 Mean Green Club members (RV's goal 5 years ago) (2) 30,000 Mean Green fans in attendance at each home game this Fall ** We need our casual or borderline fans to step up to the plate with most of us on this message board to do this, and that is giving to the Mean Green Club at any donor level and just showing up at Fouts Field even on Game Day season tickets or not and sitting in any seat at whatever the price of the ticket. If we do all the above, I think we would cover more than just the $500,000.
  2. I think I read somewhere where the Super Dome was (in fact) built 30 plus feet above sea level. Maybe I misread that or something.
  3. So we what we possibly have here, FFR, could be sized up from that famous cinematic line by the late Strother Martin in "Cool Hand Luke" when he said to his prisoners: "What we have heah' is a failure to communicate."
  4. Did anyone have their cam-corder turned on at Fouts when drex was running his wind sprints?!?!? I would have paid full price admission to see that, drex. GMG!
  5. I read on one LSU board that they would have made $4 million with the NORTH TEXAS game (or any other home game I presume). I think ULM is the hold-up in getting an NT/LSU game rescheduled; but I guess they have their reasons, yet they can ill afford for LSU officials (and alums) of whom many are Louisiana legislators to start having bad feelings about ULM, either. GMG!
  6. NT All American wide receiver candidate Johnny "the Mighty" Quinn could be the main key to our offense's overall performance against MT. Sorry, I don't think we are playing a Big 12 school in the MUTS this Saturday night, and if Super Jamario can have the kind of games he had against 2 Big 12 schools last year, I think both he and Patrick Cobbs can both have potentially super games against the Blue Radas' . Time to see which of the 2 QB's can get the ball downfield to the best receiver I've seen in Mean Green Country for 30 plus years. A few exotic plays, ie, the halfback pass would not be a bad thing to add to the offensive plays repertoire for this Saturday night, too. Should be a fun game for college football fans to watch. I don't think we do the panic thing if we lose against MUTS, though, because their team has shown a great propensity to lose 1 or 2 SBC games per year they should not lose. I see at least 2 other teams in the SBC who could more than give the MUTS tight games and one of those is Troy U who the B. Raiders have to play at the Trojans home stadium. A COMMON PACT FOR ALL MEAN GREEN FANS EVERYWHERE: We "ARE" Mean Green fans and we will not jump off the MG bandwagon "IF" we lose against the MUTS; yet we will support this team at Fouts Field vs the Golden Hurrricane of TU, Sept. 17'th. For the handful who might entertain the idea of giving up over "one" potential loss in Dollywood Country: Do you like where we are now compared to where we were 6 years ago with this Mean Green football program? GMG!
  7. No bout' a doubt it, the MUTS have more pressure on them than we do. You know "IF" we were to flub the dub and somehow even lose this game, I still like our chances to win the SBC because IMO our team will jell and be pretty salty once they get some playing time under their belts. I feel this game in the Boro' will be what college football is all about and just hope its a clean, well played football game on both sides of the ball. With our offense and a developing defense, I really do like our chances on the road even if we haven't played a game yet. If the MUTs don' win this game, I'd sure hate to be in Coach Mac's shoes post-game, because there will be gnashing of teeth and intense feelings among the MUT'sters! (Should we take a Texas Ranger to this game at the Boro'; you know "One Riot--One Ranger?" PS: I don't look for us to be favored with this game on the road.
  8. This in a press conference that CNN just broadcast live from Houston. He mentioned Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, Astros owner Drayton McClane among others who are leading the way in Bayou City fundraising efforts as they help ex Presidents Clinton and Bush for Katrina refugees. All these Houston area key fundraisers were on the stage with the 2 ex presidents. As many times as CNN repeats video footage in a day's time, I'm sure those of you who watch CNN will see this press conference at some point. You can get a short glimpse of NT alum Jim McIngvale.
  9. Just look at the post above your post. radiogreen! Also, look at the bottom of this post, too. 7,000 posts is just warming up with all that I've got to say after following all this MG businesss for going on 33 years. FWIW, radiogreen, I figure those 7,000 posts only covered Hayden Fry's 1'st two years in Denton. Have a great Labor Day, MG Nation! GMG!
  10. You da' man, greenminer! And thanks to you other computer geeks! (just a-jokin')
  11. A problem NT had with those long 12 years in the SLC is that one of the schools in our former 1-AA league had players who could barely spell their names. That school had very, very low entrance standards back in that day for their overall student body and that school was NE Louisiana aka ULM. Ex NT Chancellor/President Dr. Alfred F. Hurley had a real problem with NE Lousiana St. U back then because at the time they were admitting just about anybody who could pass the "breath in the mirror" test as to show they were among the walking and the living, with NE LA St (ULM) especially being most gracious with their entrance standards if that student just happened to be an exceptional football player. Ex NE La Indian star RB Roosevelt Potts is one that comes to mind from part of that scenario. It was alleged that he was no Rhodes Scholar. Also, there was a time when the state of Louisiana funded the construction of all athletic venues when (as we all know) in Texas they have to be privately funded. Ex NT Prez Dr. Alfred Frances Hurley seemed to think their were some uneven playing fields being created in the Southland Conference with all this concering ULM's state funded facilities and low entrance requirments, but it was mostly the academic thing with Hurley. Yet back to the present, if ULM wants to be a horses' butt about all this scheduling because of a natural disaster/human tragedy it will be their school who loses the public opinion battle AND in their own state because this whole thing was created because of Hurricane Katrina; many of ULM's fellow Louisianians have lost their lives because of this hurricane and it was that humongous storm that caused LSU to have to postpone the NORTH TEXAS game in the first place. But just what would the rest of the citizenry of the state of Louisiana feel if one of their own northern Louisiana schools was throwing a monkey wrench into all this? If LSU doesn't play this football game they stand to lose $4 million which is what I read in some article. Well, LSU has a big time budget as it is, but $4 million is hardly chicken feed for even any Big Time U athletic programs. (I am suprised to read that what many of us have been reading would be a $500K guarantee for NT is now $400,000? Whats with all that? ULM can go ahead and play big time wheeler and dealer with LSU being the ultimate receipient of that or the short-term, but for the long-term is it seems it would be most prudent for ULM to be a bit more diplomatic and showing some semblance of sensitive with this knowing the reason of why there was a postponed game by LSU in the first place. With LSU being their states #1 school, #1 football program and being located in their states capital city of Baton Rouge, if you want many statehouse votes for future percs for any Louisiana school why would any school in tht state want this kind of publicity. As it is, aren't many Louisiana legislators LSU graduates? So ULM can really hurt themselves much more than they can UNT if that is their iintent with all this. North Texas can and will recover the $500,000 and probably do so from the NT president's discretionary fund. Our NT administration knows the value of a well-funded D1-A athletic program and would IMO have no problem replenshing its coffers if ULM wants to sabbotage all this with LSU. NT may have to go do a Big Donor for this, and they very well may ask more on this forum to joint the Mean Green Club. A new $600,000+ turf at Fouts Field which makes its debut in 2 weeks is another prime example of the NT administration AND Board of Regent's financial support for NT; albeit was a loan that will get paid back. Hope this gets resolved very soon. The longer it takes the more questions LSU officials will start asking and probaby direct some of those questions toward Monroe, LA.
  12. Wright Waters will undoubtedly have to resolve this, because some cannot see past their noses on this. If ULM wants to create bad waves with us, let them do it on the field of battle, not the business ledger when they stand to lose friends in Baton Rouge who I think they need more in their corner than we do.
  13. MM, have you checked the ol' transcript to see if you have just one more semester of elgibility at NT? Thanks for postin' and how are your folks? I met them back in the day and they are super people. Tell them we want to see them September 17'th for our home opener. I still watch the 1994 NT highlight VHS called "War Eagles" and it just really takes me back to a most important season when you guys put us back in the NCAA D1-A neighborhood we should have never left. Thank you and your 1994 Mean Green teammates for that, Mitch. We will never forget yall.
  14. Ditto, Huff.... Can we ever forget the last play of the Middle Tennesse game 2 years ago when Booger sacked a QB in the Boro', when Booger Kennedy turned a flip while sacking that QB, with that Blue Raider QB fumbling the ball in the air and Booger coming down with the football (after completing his full circle flip)? Even more unforgettable about that play was ESPN' s Jim Donnan's description and expression of total amazement with Booger Kennedy's miraculous play. GOOD LUCK, BOOGER! THE MEAN GREEN NATION IS STILL PULLING FOR YA' ! GMG!
  15. And just think, 2 people almost pulled off that upset with one being a woman! (Norm Dad Joke #33)
  16. The kick in the butt in all this will be if a certain SBC school choose not to cooperate with the schedule change. NT has already set a good example by cooperating with Arkansas State so they could play Army. I hope this all gets resolved in the next few days.
  17. Trust me, Aquila_Viridis, there will be "NO" track in our new football stadium. That is toward the top of the list of why we are needing a new stadium as it is. Actually, if Fouts had no track and fans were close to the action, there'd be less complaints and nothing but an old stadium in a bad location (according to the TxDOT) that would need to be replaced. There are still fans at larger NCAA D1-A football venues sitting further away from the action than Mean Green fans. Fouts will be just fine until we get a new football stadium. In fact, Rick V and staff have made it a much more interesting place to watch a college football game than it used to be. The Daktronics has played a big part in that IMO. GMG!
  18. Agree with your statement about MT QB Marks. We have one particular defensive end at NT that one college FB magazine predicted would be SBC Newcomer of the Year ie, Willie Ransom; so I guess we need WR to step up to the plate in his very first game in a Mean Green uni', eh? As DD said for the postponed LSU game, "some of our players are going to have to grow up quick." I believe that still stands for the MUTS game. I think the NT/MT game will be a barn-burner. May be the last team who scores wins the game. If this game were played after this Mean Green team had more time to jell, I don't think MT has a prayer, but then again, SBC office football schedulers probably had that in mind, too. Making an excuse with that? Hardly not, it's just my opinion on the subject since everyone and their dogs know NT traditionally gets out of the starting blocks somewhat slow since we've been in the SBC. For those of you in the North Texas (DFW) Metroplex, this game will be televised on KFWD (Ch 52) this Saturday at 6:00 PM (CST). That station should get some good ratings even if UT/Ohio St. are playing at the same time. Why? How about our Metroplex NT constituency: NT Enrollment..........32,000+ this Fall City of Denton........ 100,000 Denton County........ 560,000 (about the same as New Orleans population**) DFW NT EXes...........100,000 ............................................................................. ** Greater New Orleans may well be close to 1,000,000 but I believe their city limits population is about the same as Denton County's. GMG!
  19. I will easily go out on this limb and say that even SEC Alabama does not have as good a running game (or RB's) as NORTH TEXAS with our Dynamic Duo. I believe we have a good enought offensive line to be OK with most SBC teams. BUT............it's the NT "D" (line) that better tighten up the old jock staps because MT QB Clint Marks is going to throw the ball 40 or more X's next week; unless, they suddenly develop a running game. The NT/MT game will be most interesting and whatever the results in Bama tonight, we can throw out the door because we have to go to their house and play. IMO, our not playing LSU tonight will ultimately turn out to be a real plus for our team, but I think we might all agree whatever the results in the Boro, this team needs some time to develop and could be a pretty decent team come December. GAME STATISTIC UPDATE: MT RB's thru most of the 4'th quarter have run the ball 24 X's for 33 yards. The score is now: UA 26 MT 7
  20. Watching CNN as I post and Larry King has a 3 hour special going on with ways we can all give to (probably) the worst natural disaster in US history. One guy from "Feed The Children" said we are all going to have to keep giving and giving and giving because this relief effort will go on for months and months up to a year or more.
  21. 3'rd quarter almost done: UA 23 MT 7 MT running backs have carried the ball 21 X's for 34 yards thru almost 3 quarters. MT QB Marks is 11 of 14 for 101 yards thus far with a 23 yard TD pass. I would think we'd all agree that MT QB Clint Marks is the key to our game with the Blue Raiders next week. Will this game be on DFW Channel 52? Anyone know?
  22. Bama just scored a TD in the 3'rd quarter UA 16 MT 7 MT QB Marks is 10 of 13 for 96 yards according to TideFans.com live stats page.
  23. I think some of us had a hunch that this might be a close game. For updates try: www.tidefans.com GO MT! GMG!
  24. Welcome to this board, Mean'n'Green07! The 2'nd (long) paragraph you wrote is what so many academians on the UNT campus thru the decades just cannot seem to fathom (or they just refuse to). I've been around the Mean Green scene since January of 1972 and have seen the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to NT athletics; the last 5 years has been most satisfying for many of us older (and not so old) nestors who post or read GMG.com. Some on this board have been watching NT football for almost a half a century if you can believe that. What you said about living in Arlington and not knowing a darn thing about UNT does not surprise this NT alum whatsoever because I've been Fort Worth-based since 1977 and I have asked many FWISD students this question: "Which school has the largest student enrollment: TCU or UNT? 9 out of 10 from the FWISD would say TCU. I have a feeling our NT officials at this point in time have somewhat waived the white flag as far as getting any more high profile teams into Denton as long as we have Fouts as our FB stadium. I don't know if they have come to the conclusion that its not possible after the bad experience Baylor had at the game that sold you on UNT when the Bear's locker-room electricity went out. The future new football stadium at NT will allow us to schedule (in larger numbers) the kind of schools that I believe will help us gain and keep new fans; those same schools that it has been hinted that we cannot get to Denton now because of Fouts Field. I think NT AD Rick V and company have performed miracles with venerable ol' Fouts, but you just cannot keep on polishing that old t_rd if you get my drift. For some reason, Metroplex college football fans only want to show up en mass based on who you play and not just because its 'THEIR" team playing. UT fans sellout for NT not because they are playing us, it's because their "beloved" Longhorns are in town. Anyway, that is a mode of thinking we must change at NT and your generation can help us do that quicker than some of ours can. IMHO, the key is getting our annual record-setting NT freshmen classes to come to the games en mass while they live on or near campus and just hang onto them once they graduate. I believe we will hang onto them in record numbers because the last 5 or 6 NT freshmen classes have seen the Mean Green in record numbers of TV appearances (local, regional and national) and 4 bowl games in a row. Those type of things can be the glue (if you will) that can tie each graduating NT class together as to cause them to want to come back to campus in record numbers. Mean'n'Green07, many on this board will tell you (others won't) that NT's future new stadium is the real key to our growth in all areas of athletics growth in Denton and not just for football. For instance, if you get the Oklahoma State Cowboys (and their 10,000 traveling fans) into a 35-40,000 seat stadium at Eagle Point Campus, then you have record gate receipts that help the entire NT athletic budget for both men and women varsity sports. The new stadium is the key to all this and always has been. NT officials can get all kind of advertisement with a new stadium that Fouts is extremely limited. How many large DFW companies might want to give NT anywherer from $25K to $50K per year just so their company could have one of those roomy luxury suites that was shown on the virtual video tour of NT's new football stadium when it was linked on this board. Yet w/o a new stadium, other SBC schools would pass us almost immediately. As they say, in NCAA D1-A if you are standing still with your facilities, then you are really going backwards and will eventually reap the benefits of that. One high ranking NT official believes we could be in a new football stadium by 2009. Bottom line is, Mean'n'Green07, you are young enough that you as a future NT Ex will get to see many exciting years in that new stadium and even more dramatic growth at NORTH TEXAS. For that, you should really be licking your chops with excitement! Welcome to GMG.com, Mean'n'Green07! GMG!
