It will still boil down to Coach Phil Bennett’s Defense because I think Coach Seth Littrell’s offense will be at juggernaut stage by the 3’rd or 4’th game. 6 wins minimum for this team. We are all conditioned to not embrace such news of improvement, but the last 3 recruiting classes & recent portal transfers will change that beginning this season. ___________________ Historical Day Today: It is the 50’th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech. I was 12 & in Washington D.C the week before he gave his famous speech. We should try to embrace & heed the spirit of his speech now more than ever. Just my 2 cents.

I’m sure several FBS schools would be happy to have either. We may need both of them before it’s over with. Yet it’s the entire Mean Green receivers corp who really excite me (along with our offensive line). The 6’5” Georgia Bulldog 4 star transfer receiver (Bush) is really going to be interesting to watch. (Just lob a pass & watch him jump up 6 feet to catch it). Honestly, I can’t wait to watch pre-game drills next Saturday with what I anticipate could turn out to be a decent football team. I will have my binocs on Phil Bennett during some of the game just to see his body language a la his days at Baylor. If he’s not cussing a bunch that means our defense is probably doing fine. 🦅❇️🦅

North Texas predicted to win C-USA in 2021

The Rangers stand ready.🤫 One Riot—One Ranger. 🦅 -
This list was compiled 2 years ago so I don’t think much would have changed with all these stadiums in 2 years. Wouldn’t some of us like to meet the one(s) at UnderDogsDynasty who picked a half empty photo of Apogee Stadium for this feature?🙃 Also, their critics taking a swipe at UNT tailgating will make some wonder just when the UDD staff were even there to pass their most questionable judgement on our tailgating, too. (Did they just look at a photo of “The Hill” 4 hours before Tailgating began or what)?😆 (So........just win)?😊 🦅The photo below (& others similar online) were available when UDD’s Stadium article first came out. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.underdogdynasty.com/platform/amp/2019/6/6/18536105/c-usa-football-stadiums-ranked-1-13-fiu-football-uab-utep-marshall-fau-la-tech-utsa

••• Photo 1: 2 Mean Green football stars. •••Photo 2: Harry Miers Original Hit Squad! •••3’rd Photo: The NTS male cheerleader in the middle is Robert Campbell. I worked as a recruiter at 3 different tech schools for Bob. Robert’s dad was Russ Campbell who I think was KNTU 88.1’s first General Manager. •••4’th Photo: Steve Williams of Edna, Texas, who played linebacker for NT Coach Corky Nelson. Later he became wrestling mega-star Stone Cold Steve Austin. ••• 5’th Photo: At the Astrodome, Elvis had just sung “Glory to the Green” to an afternoon matinee performance at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, circa 1970. Hell! We won “4” last season with a CV-19 wounded Defense. Remember? UNT has more P5 & upper echelon G5 talent than I can ever remember. SL is pumped after having brought in CUSA’s #1 recruiting class, but his best recruiting was done with his hiring of new Defense Coordinator Phil Bennett. Any of you ever play the game? I did & the coaches who scared the beJesus out of me & my teammates got the best results. I think Coach Phil Bennett is that kind of Coach. He for sure was at Baylor, wasn’t he? Number of wins in 2021? (And with this schedule, too). This team you will not recognize by mid season. Try believing that this is hardly last year’s teams at all. ”6” wins. (SMU game will be a toss up). ❇️🦅❇️

So sorry about your loss, GBarksdale. I lost a cousin in Alabama & a couple friends on the Texas Gulf Coast. I’m Type 2 diabetic so the decision to get the vaccine was an easy one. I got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine shot on March 9’th (with no reaction). ⛑⛑⛑⛑ To each his own, but the part that got my attention was that “most” who got the shot don’t die. Yes, there will be exceptions, but in life I’ve always tried to play the best odds & getting that damn shot was that for me. ••• I read that a guy once drank a 6 pack of beer, took 2 aspirin & then died because of his reaction to that combo. You never know.

That’s only because the sportswriter at Yahoo Sports knows it is. I’d wager that at some point he’s been on our campus to see it all in person. The venues inside the Mean Green Village gives North Texas a huge advantage (if we’ll just take advantage of that). I think the last 3 football recruiting classes suggests that we have?

Adios, UT and OU; hello, Big Texas Conference
PlummMeanGreen replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Football
•••Amended with spelling corrections.😎 The proposed conference I see on this thread would probably have the same effect as when North Texas was demoted from NCAA D1-A to NCAA 1-AA in 1982. It wasn’t a pretty sight. NT Exes (I haven’t seen since) threw up their hands & said or thought words like.....“enough of this crap, this school is only about regressing downward to mediocrity & I want no part of it.” (And they proved it—as I haven’t seen most of them since). 🤔You think U of North Texas being located in a major league sports market has something to do with most of our alum’s attitudes as far as what they’ll accept? Minor league “anything” (even in Denton) was never going to fly (& it hasn’t). Why not shoot higher then? I think Wren Baker will unless he gets overly unimpressed with our fan base.🤢 My main worry from the OldDenton “group think” tank is that when we hit 50,000 enrollment they’ll want football on campus to be at an intramural level. How’s that you might ask? Well, look at what some of them want now (as one reads this thread) & that after we hit 40,000 plus enrollment? (Hell, the bigger UNT gets the smaller they think)!😳 Then may I suggest which UNT AD would want no part of this Texas Conference or one with such a low profile that will never build a fan & contributions base? So all can get all warm & gushy about sitting around an all Texas intercollegiate conference campfire singing: 🎶 “Kum Bah Yah, my Lord, Kum bah yah, aren’t we all insignificantly average as hell, my Lord, Kum bah yah?”🎶 🐎...🦅 -
SMU are experts at false perception creating & building. See how successful their Mustang Mania perception-building & promo lasted? (How’s ‘bout not even a decade). •••When Sonny Dykes fills a future Texas Tech job (or any other P5 job) SMU will begin their demise (again). It will once again be like old times for Stang City when they regularly paid for players (but didn’t get caught all those times). •Honestly, can you take spots off a leopard? UNT has several “L’s” to some of those University Park semi-pro football teams. Also, pay close attention to several of the Big 12’s remaining schools who will (to the school) blackball SMU from future B12 membership. (Awe, such sweet poetic justice for many) &.....it will be those same remaining B12 schools who will be getting portal transfers from——-SMU!😎 Only then will many get to say: “WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND, “___ ___’s (what was that word DD once used to describe MG fans)? 😱 ❇️🦅❇️

Concerning re-alignment, when have we ever had good timing? We’ve never been where we wanted to be when these re-alignment times came up. “If ifs & buts were candy & nuts”......if we’d only had Wren Baker in charge of this athletic program about the time we moved football operations across the Interstate to the Mean Green Village. From all I hear, WB seems to have friends in strategic intercollegiate places & probably more than any previous AD we’ve had the last several decades. 🦅
-
Ruder has all but immediately started Fall practice already listed as co-#1. He for certain has impressed somebody as his rise on the depth chart is very impressive. Most any FBS G5 football program would be happy with either of our co-#1’s. Just a gut feeling, but I do believe Ruder will be the outright starter by game #3. 🦅
-
And isn’t SMU still a G5 program who th Does the present NCAA rules committee even have a tampering law (or rule)?

As you’ve observed, GMG tends to have no shortage of idiots. Hell, I’ve probably been guilty of being one from time to time, yet some I think totally misunderstand my Baby Boomer era & “early SNL” style sarcasm. And yes, opinionated Mean Green fans this forum most definitely has an abundance. 😆 🗣••• There are only 2 kinds of people I have absolutely no use (& I avoid them): (1) bonafide racists & (2) bonafide (sometimes subtle) race-baiters. Life is too short. 🦅
-
I like your style--keep posting. Don’t let OldDenton & the fossils get you down. They are all running for the coveted 🏆 “GMG Poster of the Year” award while most of them still show an unusual propensity to never let this athletic program ever grow past the eras they attended NTSUNT. •••I will add that I am a big Torrey fan, albeit I understand where you’re coming from. 😊 ❇️🦅❇️

Well I don’t live in Denton, but I do recall. Ask Harry about my memory bank if you need to, but I didn’t dream it about Mason‘s few detractors. It stood out & I resent that you seem to be suggesting that I actually made this up? What do I have to gain by doing that & furthermore, who the hell taught you manners?

Some may think I’ve been sippin’ too many margaritas, but I think UNT could pull an upset against SMU. Let’s be real, the Stangs’ have not been getting portal transfers from the NFL... (yet). Their 2021 edition of “who wants to be a millionaire” newbies will have not played as a unit but for a 2’nd game in a row. I don’t know about their OU QB transfer that much, but we will have on the field of play a QB more familiar with most of his tandem of receivers than who SMU will start. You’ll drink til’ it hurts, SMU, but this could be a Hilltop shocker for all of Stangdom heard ‘round the entire investments world. ❇️🐎 🦅❇️

Until North Texas removes itself from this hodge-podge of schools we will eventually sink into NCAA oblivion. Yet UNT is one of the few G5 schools that can avoid that because of (once again) our prime location in an 8,000,000 Texans populated area, our ever-expanding grade A athletic venues (seen daily by 10’s of thousands of Interstate commuters) & who we presently have leading our university. Watch out! IT’S A FROG! 🟣⚪️TCU very admirably (IMO) went rogue (leaving SMU behind in doing so) by joining the MWC when they did & even🔴⚪️Texas A&M who wanted a similar LoneStarState exclusivity by leaving UT behind & joining the SEC. That seemed to finally be working for AggieLand before UT & OU completely screwed all that up for the Ags but ——- until UNT does what some on this forum would call “the impossible dream” all this constant rearranging of Titanic deck chairs will continue & North Texas will eventually lose its unique identity while blending in with the rest of G5 chaos. (In your 💚’s you know I am close to being right about this, so grow some ‘nads & admit it (but do keep in mind you might get the dreaded red🔻downvote for having an actual opinion that differs from the rest). 👤So just where do we go then? Well, we have a more than capable AD at UNT who would work behind the scenes with that complex problem (& come up with a plan that would probably be beyond any of our wildest dreams). All that to get “our favorite school” out of this forever hodgepodge. A hodgepodge that a 40K plus Texas university with arguably the best damn location (where 2 Interstates meet at our freakin’ campus stadium for heaven’s sake)😎 in the South or Southwest. ❇️🦅❇️ BEAT THE 👹’s On Band Day! 9-6-21 6:30 pm, Apogee Stadium. Be there, Dano! Aloha!

With all the collective experts on GMG who (without a doubt) know who to hire & when to fire it really surprises me that in my last almost half century of following this that we were absolutely not one steamrolling NCAA football juggernaut & one that “our favorite school” has the Big Boys literally standing in line wanting to interview us for a future P5 conference membership. •••I have to ask the question: Were some of you on the UNT HFC selection committee that hired “____________________” (just fill in the blank with any ex UNT HFC who left Denton under .500). Honestly, can we just let the freakin’ 2021 MG football season play itself out at which time we’ll have a better idea about SL’s future? Why the rush now? We never were before. Until then, maybe rather discuss on GMG various shades of green we should consider in the future or.....jointed (or disjointed) “NT” letter logos (or maybe we wore those topics out, too, in past years)? Most on this GMG forum attended UNT, a very diverse (in every way), creative, helluva’ bohemian, eclectic environment of a Texas public university so with that I know we are all capable of being creative in introducing new subject material on GMG every now & then? I’ll try to myself, but at my age I may tend to keep being redundant all over again & again & again & again. It just comes with this new geriatric territory of which (admittedly) it’s taking me a little time of getting used to? I’m not even sure why many of my sentences end with question marks? To quote “38 years old” Britney Spears on that: “Whoops! I did it again, baby?” (Or was it Austin Powers)?🤢 🦅 PS: And oh thank heavens for 7-11 & a Wren Baker’esque kind of thinking & his “gettin’ it done” M.O. which gives all from ages 9 to 99—a much, much brighter Mean Green future. ❇️

Would it surprise some to know many of those on GMG who vehemently said Mason Fine would never start as UNT QB are probably many of the same ones who continue stirring it up about Seth Littrell? What gives? So will it be a new thread on the same old “Fire the HFC” subject about every other week now? Is it mostly the same ones who say the same old trite things about Littrell who will still offer nothing new on this subject? (Hey! We read yalls opinions on SL the first time y’all brought it up about a half year ago). We get it. We get that Seth will probably not be on most of your Christmas shopping lists this December. Besides yet another thread on creating a HFC’s vacancy at North Texas—one might wonder what the real agenda is with all this? Maybe someone else seeking the UNT HFC’s job has put a hardy handful on GMG up to doing these threads non-stop & to the point of ad nauseum? I have no dog in any of this kind of fight. I’ve never met SL. Seth Littrell according to the below link is 31 W’s—31L’s preceding this 2021 football campaign. We’ve had head football coaches leave UNT over 20 career losses under .500 who get more respect from some of the OldDenton/OldUNT group think tank. With that, I wonder what kind of reputation this will ultimately give our favorite school—or do we already have it? https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/coaches/seth-littrell-1.html 🦅❇️🦅

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ••• We should probably try to not make our 2021 CUSA opponents look like they’re in the Big 10. Predictions? Coastal Carolina was picked to finish toward the (if not) the bottom of the SBC last year. ❇️🦅❇️
