  1. Got mine this AM at my west Fort Worth Post Office near UNT Health Science Center. Lower Section E, of course. GMG!
  2. Had lunch at Cracker Barrell today (corp.headquarters in TN) and I think I saw some of those people there today just in from the Volunteer State for "special" training. Amen to that, jpEagle! Most definitely the POST OF THE YEAR!
  3. To quote meanjoe: Join the Mean Green Club Buy Season Tickets If that happens in record numbers, then we can give all our coaches some much deserved pay raises. We should be #1 in the SBC in that dept, too. I just don't think Brett Vito's report on our 2000-2001 athletic budget could even be close to accurate unless someone else on campus has been pulling our legs all the time about our actual athletic budget. That figure just seems way too low for that academic year, but I'm sure Vito had to see those figures somewhere as to write about them in his article, too. Yet it seems like we've been over $10 million for much longer than he reported, but (as always) I stand to be corrected.
  4. Is that the same as "being redundant all over again?" (Yogi B.) GMG! PS: As one formerly from the greater Houston area, I just cannot contain my excitement on the MGRN adding KAFR 88.3FM to their growing group of Texas radio stations. I am very happy for our Houston alums and fans. (Also, just plain proud of Houston for other things, too). As we used to say down there around Houston Fat Stock Show time each winter: GO TEXAN! (Do they still use that phrase, Houston alums)? GMG!
  5. Shameless bump for those in the Houston area who are just now finding out they now have radio coverage for all Mean Green football and basketball games this academic year. As I understand it, we can all thank the same person President George Herbert Walker Bush thanked last Saturday on CNN, ie, Jim "Mattress Mac" McIngvale, a former Mean Green football player under Coach Hayden Fry. (Presidents Bush and Clinton were thanking him and others on stage with them for their help with all the displaced Americans). Harry, maybe pinning this for a week or 2 might keep this info in front of those who need to see it? GMG!
  6. Jeff, I know your (& others) concern with this and I have some of the same concern on this subject as well, but would a few well placed emails or letters to (perhaps) the one(s) responsible for what might merely be an oversight be effective? We cannot play the "blame game" (there's those 2 words again) with our football players if they have been told to keep fraternization with alums/fans to a minimum. Those 18-21 year olds who wear the Green and White are most of our's heros and can do little wrong with the MG Nation most the time. I like the fact that there is really very little criticism on this forum concerning those guys, too, and I know you and the rest of GMG.com posters would like to see that continue. I think DD is over the ULM debacle of 5 years ago. I think I understand why there was some bitterness on his part, too, although I didn't for about 3 years following that ULM loss and I defer to all the negative radio comments aimed seemedly at our fan base by DD that kept our best/most loyal fans in a state of bewilderment and confusion as to "what did we do for heaven's sake?". There was much more to that story than many of us knew for years. 5 years ago in Monroe, LA., there was not one connected with UNT (except one strategic Board of Regent) who wanted Dickey back as head football coach and not because of that ULM loss, but moreso because of all the seasons leading up to that loss in Monroe. Again, ancient history, but for those reading this who have no idea what the hell I am posting about here, you now have a little background on this. Really, though, thats about all that needs to be said with that 5 year old incident. This is a time for all off the Mean Green Nation, its athletes and its paid employees to be on the same page. Who knows, that kind of authentic and sincere attitude might be most visible to impress the "One(s)" (big donor?) we need to be duly impre$$ed in Mean Green Country if you get my drift (and I know you do). GMG!
  7. I say that the Wings group (are they still together and coming to the game?) raise a Texas flag to the very top of their south endzone goal post after the Mean Green win over the MUTS. Now if they want to take that goal post down and parade the Lone Star flag around their stadum thats their business.
  8. OK, I will break the code of silence that I requested earlier about NT injuries being reported on this forum but as far as DT Doe goes? Here's a toe-nail sketch on MG defensive tackle John Doe's situation: It seems that John Doe has broken his toe. OK, Coach MAC, you read it first on GMG.com! Now have your players stepping on Doe's toes all Saturday night long you Doe-toe hater. GMG!
  9. I know the sincere intent and concern here, but college smack board are getting a reputation among the home team coaching staffs as giving the enemy way more injury info that they should have to find out (somehow) on their own. For instance, NT DT John Doe hurts his ankle 2 days before the Big Game, so we announce it on GMG.com and then the Blue Raiders coaches tell their players to zero in on MG DT John Doe's ankles and take him out. The MT board on Rivals has a stipulation that no injuries will be discussed and I think we should be doing the same. Just my .02 on this subject.
  10. Nice to see the Mean Green Radio Network (M.G.R.N.) adding the great city of Houston to its growing Texas-wide radio network. Wonder which Texas city will be next? ** Internet radio for Mean Green football will go thru KWRD and you can access that at: www.thewordfm.com ** For TV broadcast of NT/MT game in DFW>>KFWD Channel 52 ** In Denton>>Channel 6 ** The Dish subscribers out of the DFW area can call customer service and you would have to out a subcription with ESPN Game Plan to get the NT/MT football game. I have no idea what the cost of that is.
  11. SBC competition? NT has beaten Texas Tech 3 out of the last 6 times we've played them and one of those was a Darrell Dickey-coached win. Seems we even (not just beat) but slaughtered Baylor 2 years ago at Fouts Field and I have no idea what happened in the game last year--wasn't there; although I know it was hardly a slaughter score-wise as the year before. NORTH TEXAS has a good offensive line. We have a 2005 Lombardy/Outland Trophy nominated guard in that line surrounded by 4 other pretty formidable offensive linemen. One or two of the other offensive lineman very well could be up to make All SBC this Fall. Sure we know thats not All Big 12, but we also know we don't mortgage the family ranch with our athletic budget either as to finish in that league's lower depths. I think I did say Daniel Meager was a Redshirt frosh QB and I don't think I said anything that made him seem as if the were a seasoned senior QB. I said he was fleet of foot, so does that make him sound like an experienced senior QB? You are reading things in between the lines. And....what is your big interest in this NT vs MT game as it is? Are you really a closet MUTS fan or something? LOL! I think I read between the lines that you probably wouldn't mind if the MUTS handed our heads to their coach on a silver platter, too, while we're all reading in between the lines. BTW, Crown Bear, go get a copy of ESPN "The Magazine" at your local newstand tomorow and read about the Mean Green, Patrick Cobbs and Super Jamario Thomas. Not bad for a school in the Sun Belt, eh? It would inspire even the best of Baylor Bears fans everywhere.
  12. Well, Crown Bear, FWIW, it was a close game last year. It's always a close game. This year may be different if all the MG pistons are running in place as I think they could. And I will say this, too: The MUTS better be glad they are getting this Mean Green team now than later this Fall (and that is all I'm going to say about that). This year we have the fastest running NT QB the 30 plus years I've followed MG football; yet, Coach Dickey will not put this game on the fleet RS frosh Meager's shoulders, just like he didn't the great Andrew Smith who like Meager was also a RS freshman QB with #12 leading NT to a bowl win. In other words, NORTH TEXAS has had pretty good luck with a RS freshman as our QB. MUTS can put as many of the line as they want, but the MUTS would be NUTS to leave Johnny Quinn" and Joel Nwigwe (who caught a 63 yard TD pass against MT last time we were in the 'Boro) wondering about in the perimeter of their secondary alone with only one on one coverage as they put more on the line trying to stop Cobbs or Thomas. Anyone else think that QB Daniel Meager could also run a QB draw and go............ALL----THE---- WAY? SPEAKING OF Sir P. COBBS: We do have "the Emerald Express" back even looking a step quicker than before his injury; and although Super Jamario Thomas had a bad game with the MUTS last year with only 180 plus yards against basically the same defense we will see this Saturday, I think he would like to break the 200 plus yards barrier against the Radas' in this game. GMG!
  13. Buy the magazine. It will give you the mean green warm fuzzies and you'll also appreciate all the photos.
  14. I know this has been mentioned previously on another thread, but I "finally" found this edition just out at the new Wal Mart 3 miles from my house in Hudson Oaks, Texas (between Fort Worth and Weatherford) I think there is only one of these editions left in their magazine rack, though. Presumably, Borders, Barnes & Noble and other newstands would at the moment have this Sept. 12'th edition in abundance. Better hurry, though. ....................................................................................... A MESSAGE TO THE CITIZENS OF MY FORMER HOME TOWN of DENTON, TEXAS: This school, specifically its athletic program, has given your All American city millions and millions of dollars of free publicity, especially in the last 5 years with all the countless number of TV games and bowl appearances. SO............ A SIMPLE REQUEST TO ALL THE CITIZENS OF MY FORMER HOME TOWN OF DENTON, TEXAS: Whether the Mean Green wins or (bite my lips) loses the MTSU game this Saturday........... the UNIVERSITY of NORTH TEXAS family would appreciate (and be honored) if you and your families would merely give them a chance to host you & your families to what may surprise you to be a great night of total family entertaiment for all ages. By you and your family just showing up on September 17'th, 6:00 pm, Fouts Field to spend a very small investment (by today's entertainment $tandards) of your family budget for what might really surprise many of you 1'st timers as an evening of "fan"tastic family entertainment. Even if NT or Mean Green football are not your passion, then do this for your city because all parties mentioned here are the beneficiaries. As they say, it's a win-win for all concerned! THANKS IN ADVANCE... pmg GMG!
  15. The MUTS Blue Radas' will be entering the Mean Green Twilight Zone, a most mysterious zone that they will not soon forget. BRING OUT THE MEAN GREEN!
  16. Of course the NT/MT game is being shown free gratis here in the Metroplex (Channel 52 in DFW and was it Channel 6 in Denton?)...............but for you "The Dish" subscribers, you can call 1-800-333-DISH to order ESPN Game Plan which as I understand it will have our game in that particular plan. GMG!
  17. That's super for you Denton Mean Green fans! I remember watching a Super Bowl game at the old Ridglea Theatre off Camp Bowie in Fort Worth and it was a blast with all the fans being most involved in the game. It was the 2'nd best thing to being at the game itself. GMG!
  18. Was reading Bulldogs, Barks and Bytes (La Tech message board) and one of their posters IMHO distastefully brought up this theme that because TU's football players were now atttending classes in Ruston that this would help LTU eventually gain more allies in a possible future vote for their admittance to CUSA. Some of the La Tech elect are beyond help on this CUSA subject because I think using the USA's worst natural disaster in history for some semblance of selfish gain, ie, a CUSA vote may be treading on going about as low as you can get. If TU football players were attending NT and something like that was posted on this board, I think many of us would call Harry to have it immediately taken off (and knowing Harry I think he would do so in a New York minute). But mostly, I'd like to think none of our NT posters would even be thinking in that mode. LTU better think in terms of more and new D1-A type facilties than thinking about buddying up with Tulane officals for the sole purpose of getting their future vote. As it is, I thought the LTU'ers were completely satisfied with being in the WAC.
  19. Anderson said the NO's mayor said the Super Dome was damaged worse that previously thought and will have to most likely be imploded.
  20. 1'st NT offensive play at MUTS? An all-out straight down the field fly pattern by Johnny Quinn! The Radas' will be looking for the run, but not a run from Johnny "the Mighty" Quinn once he catches this long pass from Meager which he could very well run to paydirst for the games first score! Undoubtedly, the first play of the game from the NT offense will be a pass.
  21. I agree with FFR inasmuch as DD will not allow Meager to do things that will destroy a young player's confidence. I don't think NT will win or lose this game because of Meager unless he fumbles from center quite a bit. No matter what Meager's injury history is, he is still the most highly recruited Texas HS football QB we've had in Denton since Hayden Fry recruited the great Kenny Washington of Port Arthur Lincoln HS. I think the MUTS will on each play of the game have to respect the threat that All America wide receiver candidate Johnny "the Mighty" Quinn will be throughout this game because JQ runs a 4.4 and can catch well thrown or badly thrown passes---all Meager has to do is get the ball anywhere JQ can touch any part of that football and he will catch it. I believe this game will be close thru 3 quarters, but then the Mean Green's SUPER RUNNING BACK TANDEM, ie, Sir Patrick Cobbs and Super Jamario Thomas will own the 4'th quarter for the Mean Green & then finish out this game. We (and the MUTS folks) need to remember that they are no Big 12 defense and we did quite well against 2 of those last year with pretty well the same offenisve line we have this year--maybe a better one. ALSO: "IF"............ somehow we lost this game at the Boro', I don't think NT will be out of the SBC football race at all, because MT still has to go to Troy U and also go on the road to play what is becoming a very formidable FIU football team whose QB was SBC Player of the Week as he led his team in in a pretty close game against the Kansas State Wildcats. Too many things can happen in the 'Belt this year, folks! GMG!
  22. RedBeardBlueRaider, our offensive line is "NOT" inexperienced. What in the wide world of sports are you reading that says we are? OK, one more time, here is the NT offensive line: ** Dylan Lineberry, 6-3/310, both an Outland and Lombardy trophy nominee; you may want to check out last years NT/MT game video and you will see NT's offensive line's version of Moses opening the Red Sea for Super Jamario to run thru; or should I have said, uh, Blue Sea? ** Jason May, 6-4,/300, has All Sun Belt Conference written all over him. Was a key offensive lineman the year Patrick Cobbs became the national all purpose running back leader. He redshirted last year to take care of a personal situation. ** Jeremy Brown, 6-6/300 of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, was named by OUFans.comas the 27'th best player in the state of Oklahoma, while Joe Dickenson's Fab50 listed Brown as the 26'th best player in the Sooner state. If Brown had played HS in Texas, he probably would have made a few state top 100 lists. Came on strong at the end of last Fall as he developed Mono early last football season but graded out very high the last few games of last year. Chad Rose, 6-3/290, a RS frosh who made the Waco Tribune's Super Centex Team of elite Texas HS football players is the "one" inexperienced player on this Mean Green offensive line. He will not be a liability, though, because he had a very impressive Spring football experience. This offensive line will be a more than formidable force in SBC play this year, just as they were last year.
  23. San Antonio has as much or more upside as New Orleans of which (believe it or not) Denton County has a larger population (than NO's, that is). But FWIW, I would hate to seen any US city kick a dog while it is down.
  24. Makes more sense for the TU Green Wave football team to be based at a Louisiana school than one out of their home state.
