Pre-game anxieties, stomach's churning making that strange sound, might upchuck the pre-game bratwurst and sour kraut (topped off by a strawberry milkshake and that chased down by a Michelob Light longneck (or 2)....... MOVE OUT OF MY WAY, FELLAS, FIXIN' TO HAVE A COMIN' OUT PARTY!

LOL! It seems Tulsa had a good contingency of fans last time we played them during the Rusty Hill (NT QB) era.
-
Get ready for some Tulsa fans who'll now be coming to Denton.

Of course, the kind of weather we "might" get on Nov. 19'th is what the Big 10 is used to at least half of their football seasons. Yet it's Texas, we may very well have one of those Indian summer type days of blue skies and 60 degrees on Nov. 19'th. We should all keep our fingers crossed, though. I cannot ever remember a Mean Green football schedule (home and away) that has materialized such as this one. GMG!

Tulsa @ OU you guys seeing this? On FSN
PlummMeanGreen replied to meangreendork's topic in Mean Green Football
With unprecedented national media coverage this summer, the Back-To-Back promo with Cobbs and Thomas and with this being the home season opener I'd be disappointed if we were under 20K no matter how Tulsa does today at Norman. I think at some point, we have to recognize that we are seeing more new faces each Fall at Fouts and that (if for no other reason) is because our last 5 years in a row at NT have seen recording-breaking NT freshmen classes each of those years. Seems we are many times conditioned to always think in terms of the past at NT, but I think the present and the future will become our allies as they days, weeks, months and years go by in Mean Green Country. Many of you have already said that you have those coming to your tailgate for the Tulsa game that have never seen a Mean Green football game (or they haven't seen one in years). We need Tulsa to beat OU. It's even a plus that the Golden Hurricane are doing this good against OU because if our players thought they had a gimmee' before today, they for sure won't now. (Heck! I thought Tulsa was going to be a gimmee' most of this last summer). Oh well, so much for that. Of course, Tulsa and NT back in the Mo Valley days had some real good games according to some of you who were around much of that time. Sadly, TCU fans and players have to be "semi" throwin' their hands up in the air because what some of their elect have called arguably their biggest win ever, may be the same for several other teams this year when they play the Sooners. Still, wouldn't it be funny as hell if Mack Brown's UT Horns still could not beat OU this Fall?!?!? -
Muts Hope Fans Show For Big Sun Belt Game
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Surely this Mike Organ sports-writer guy of the Tennessean would know by now that we have kinda' been using the nickname "Mean Green" for quite a while now? Guess he missed the top of the front page of the recent USA Today headline that said "Return of the Mean Green" and then just out this week on the newstands the multi-page spread about the Mean Green/P. Cobbs/J. Thomas, etc, etc, etc, in this weeks edition of "ESPN: The Magazine? Go "Mean Green" ! -
Huff, 11/19 was (regrettably) the only choice we had to schedule H/C. Could we have snow at Homecoming 2005 for the first time in NT's H/C history? SNOW? Because back on November 13, 1976, when Coach Bobby Bowden brought his Florida State Seminoles to Denton and the NT campus, many of us who were at Fouts Field that day can vouch to all present NT students and all our Young Gun alums that we (indeed) on that 2'nd Saturday of November in that year had----S-N-O-W ! GMG!
-
Exactly, MG61, where have they missed that this is the same Mean Green linebacking crew (with 1 more year of valuable experience) PLUS Travis Thompson?!!?!? I hope MT's football scouting crew are seeing the same things as the GoMiddle.com folks are. Also, why did the GoMiddle.com writer forget to add to our MG defensive repertoire a JUCO transfer that one college football pre-season magazine has as their SBC Newcomer of the Year, ie, one Willie Ransom, one of our defensvie ends? LET'S PLAY SOME FOOTBALL, MUTS! GMG!

Streak Secondary For Mean Green In Opener
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
DD establish the, uh.............PASS?!?!?!? Is Gabriel soon to blow his horn? -
I read on Tiger Droppings that LSU would have made $4 million for their home season opener vs NT before it was postponed. And if ULM gets a nice windfall from all this, I hope NT at least gets a Christmas card in the mail from the Indian Nation. And if we do, I have to wonder if NT or LSU would have to pay for the postage part, too?

In The Spotlight - NT at Middle Tennessee State
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
“We have had some success against that defense,” NT offensive coordinator Ramon Flanigan said. “It would be different if they were returning a lot of guys that held us in check the last few years. But we have had some success and we feel comfortable with our guys doing what we do on offense.” ................................................................................... Exactly the same sentiments some of us have been posting about the MUTS "D", Coach Flanagan. GMG! -

Today was supposed to be the dropdead...
PlummMeanGreen replied to kj86's topic in Mean Green Football
I still feel about ULM like former Chancelor "Dr." Alfred Frances Hurley did and that is hardly any positive feelings at all. I will be interested to see how much ULM benefit$ from this schedule change if they are playing a part of this change at all. -

Almost 5:00 AM/Friday: Sleeping disorder at work here. I think we are finding out that the colleges in northern Louisiana are a helluva' different with their modes of thinking than the ones in the south and southwest part of the Sportsman State. It just must be in the drinking water of NE Louisiana or something. Even what one might think is a class act with a displaced football team apparently has subtle little hidden agendas tied to that. For instance, we have one of those northeastern Louisiana-based schools very graciously housing the Tulane football team, but you have several of their very own alums/fans on La Tech's Bulldogs, Barks and Bytes touting even that as more a golden opportunity for them to get Tulanes's vote for a possible future CUSA membership (never-minding the Tulane football players who just got displaced 5 hours away from their campus home which has been mostly under water for over a week now. Would NT dip so low? No, I don't think our NT officials are capable of dipping that far below sea level to do such. To me what some of the La Tech elect are saying with their new "Green Wave opportunity" is tantamount to one being at the cemetary laying their last living parent to rest and then asking the family attorney walking out of the cemetary to go back to their car: "Now about the family will, counsel, just how much am I getting out of all this anyway!?!?!" THEN YOU HAVE YET ANOTHER NE LOUISIANA-BASED SCHOOL...........Remember last year ULM Coach Weatherby making those unsavory and uncalled for comments about our own Super Jamaraio Thomas? He wondered (can you say green with envy) why JT would even sign to play football with NT in the first place while at the same time pouting: "NORTH TEXAS just isn't all that good a football team, anyway" (this after we just kicked his football team's butt, of course). Well, Coach "W" we aint't Top 25 yet, but we be better than your school from top to bottom. Mark that! I say we lay the wood to the ULM Indians when they come to Denton because I think they have just cost our school $500,000 with their "small time" little non-cooperative backwater school attitude. PLUS.......I hope LSU athletic officials AND LSU-educated legislators down in their statehouse in Baton Rouge don't soon forget that ULM even cost them $4,000,000 by not cooperating with their football schedule (which just happened to have NT on it) which was altered by the worst natural disaster since the great Galveston storm at the turn of last century. Dammit, this pisses me off! And if ULM did coooperate? So what if they have 2 weeks of open dates, maybe their team could use that more than any other school in the SBC. Who voted for this known outlaw school to be in the SBC in the first place? "See ya' later" McNeese State would have been a better choice IMO if it had to be a school from Louisiana anyway. To NT officials and the NT Board of Regents: Take note of what this ULM group is doing and remind them of it some day in the future when they need an ally or cooperation for a schedule change. To LSU officials: Please do the same. GMG! -
Yeah, we all really loved reading in ESPN "The Magazine" those 5 pages and 5 photos of Alabama's vaunted RB's and their running game this week! WHOOPS! Wait a minute here! That was about NORTH TEXAS' running backs and vaunted running game in this weeks edition of that magazine. My bad..... ............................................................................... To you who calls himself (herself) "theboro", lets look at all this this way: Even without Patrick Cobbs playing last year, Super Jamario Thomas still ran for almost 200 yards against (basically) the same guys that will be manning your defense this Saturday evening. Have they suddenly become Giant killers in the space of one year?

The Sports Network Says Mean Green Win
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I believe the NT/MUTS game will be close for 3 quarters, then comes the 4'th quarter. The 4'th quarter will belong to the NT offensive line, Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas. The Mean Green "D" will bend much of the game, break a few times, but not break at strategic times in that 4'th quarter. -
Keys To The MUTS/North Texas Game
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd take 31-30 with a quick plane out of the Boro' before all the serious gnashing of teeth and the tar and featherin begins! A win is a win is a win. GMG! -

The reporter also said "there hasn't really been a reason to go to Floyd Stadium lately" and as Mean Greener I strongly disagree with that quote from the Tennessee sports reporter. There "IS" a reason for SBC fans to always show up at "THEIR" teams stadiums because it is "THEIR" team who is playing. Non BCS, mid-majors or whatever they call us now need to one day (soon) get out of this mode of "we will support the home team if they have a win or 2 under their belt or they are playing somebody we know." That mode of thinking in many ways is what separates most of the BCS from the non BCS if you think about it. In Mean Green Country, I hope our new generation of fans will be just like UT fans in Austin are when they sellout against ULaLa or us. Last weekend, the Horn's fans didn't sellout DKR Memorial Stadium because the Rajun Cajuns were in town but because it was "THEIR" Texas Longhorns football team who were in town. GMG!
