  1. Uh oh! Like many on GMG.com have been trying to recently say to the point of ad nausem to most: It's just too many things up there that are out of control in Mean Green Country, folks, and it need not be that way (and it certainly need not stay that way). UNT staffers can do all the piling on of any one alum or group of our loyal fans that they so desire, but (just like the preacher in the little country church would say) there will be a day of reckoning, fellow parishioners. GOD BLESS TEXANS (and even would-be Texans)!
  2. Not what I'm really saying, Cerebus, but what if potential Big UNT Donor with no particular allegiance to either athletics or academics ask Lee Jackson: "Well, just where would our $10 million donation do you the most good in the UNT System?" GBT!
  3. Strangely enough, though, anyone else think that UNT officials have (in a way) most subtely raised the bar with future football hires, that is with that $500,000.oo figure that one day just may be made available for the right "higher profile" hire? Many of us older Mean Green barnacles have seen our BOR's in the past come up with monies for salaries of new personel they really wanted on get on the UNT coaches staff. So one might say that a UNT BOR's can do what they want to do at most anytime they want to do it. And FWIW, UNT had to go outside its usual box even back in the 1970's to hire a former SWC head football coach for a similar job opening at UNT, a coach that most know by now is in the College Football Hall of Fame. GBT!
  4. For certain public monies cannot be used for the building of a new stadium at UNT, but a UNT Chancellor with a direct charge by his bosses to build a new university in south Dallas County can for sure influence the direction of where potential donor's monies can go; and in our case, do they get directed toward the main campus in Denton or to a "not yet free-standing umiversity" in south Dallas County? Much politics going on in the UNT System these days many might agree. Too bad most of the UNT constiuency won't know the results of all the politics until they have already become campus policy. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  5. Hey CMJ, don't worry: This too shall all (eventually) pass. Some of my friends and fellow NT Exes (many of whom believe as I on all this/while a few don't) are all beginning to get worried about me. CMJ, I told them I've had this burr under my saddle for way too long and even when I tried, albeit half-heartedly, to support Dickey Ball, but just like Howard Beal implored all to do in the movie Network: I've stood up, I've opened my window and yelled outside that windowl at the top of my lungs for a few quarter horses and all 20 goats to hear: "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!" PS: CMJ, since you are in Hollywood and in the cinema industry, I thought you might like the "Network" reference. (BTW, did I spell Howard's last name correctly)? GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  6. How about our Napoleon of the North as DD's eventual replacement?!?!? Little feller seems to know so damn much about college football and how to lead a major Texas university that has had a head coach on staff for 8 years with still an under. 500 record? (Don't get me started on the 17 year W/L record of another coach at UNT). And don't give me this "but we played all those games vs the UT's and OU's on past schedules, either. No rage, rants and epistles on any of this if DD would have merely won the games listed below; and games that a team that would go to 4 bowls had no business losing and should have looked at the following schools as OOC (in most cases) appetizers: Forget the Big West era with DD--not too impressive like: 7 & 25? Losses That Would Tell Most Astute (and awake?) College Football Fans About A DD-Led UNT Football Program: 2001 Disguised DD Success #!: A then "non SBC" member Troy U beats DD's Mean Green; yet DD takes his team to 1'st New Orleans. Troy U wanted to also be a charter member of the SBC and had they gotten their wish: It's Troy U in the 1'st No's Bowl (and not Darrell "I Count My Lucky SBC/ Bottom 10 Stars Every Day) Dickey's football program. 2002 Disguised DD Success #2: What is it with these less than 5 year old upstart Florida football programs that a longer "established" DD football program cannot seem to ever win against? U of South Florida 24 UNT 17 (DD's 2'nd bowl year that his SBC/Bottom 10 conference allows him to again back into yet another year)! 2003 Disguised DD Success #3: Most thought UNT (even with 2 "backed into" bowl games) would have beaten Air Force Academy this season. Yet, its a known OOC team, on the road and even a Booger Kennedy-led Mean Green "D" cannot make it a close game with the Falcons. Air Force 31 UNT 7 NOTE: About this time of DD's most illustrious career at UNT, NT fans and alums begin to wonder if a DD-led football program can beat anyone outside the SBC/Bottom 10. 2003 Addendum: NO's Bowl loss to 4'th place CUSA team 2004 DD Disguised Success # 4: Another 1-AA Florida (and future SBC) team in business less than 5 years comes to Fouts Field and beats Dickey Ball 20=17; once again, had FAU been an official SBC/Bottom 10 member in 2004, which team from the Miami area goes to the NO's Bowl instead of DD's team? 2004 Addendum: NO's Bowl loss to 4'th place CUSA team. 2005 All DD Disguies Lifted in 2005: You can only disguise yourself so long (even in the SBC/Bottom 10). We are all finding out that just maybe our recruiting has not been where we all thought it had been: Tulsa U gives us our worse home loss in our history and Louisiana Tech U schools us in the art of playing college football with many Texas HS football recruits, but recruits who ended up in Ruston (instead of Denton, Texas). 2006 What surprises will Dickey Ball give us in yet another season (his 9'th for crissakes') in Mean Green Country? Oh yeah, almost forgot: You All Like That? GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  7. IF ALL THE FOLLOWING WEREN'T SO DARN SAD--IT MIGHT HAVE THE POTENTIAL OF EVEN BEING SORTA' FUNNY! Yes, I'm afraid there has been another blatant most un-customer service type attack on yet another NT alum and longtime fan of the Mean Green. It is related with all that business from a thread one of you posted about a KTCK AM show discussion and with what Dunham was talking about on The Ticket; and he talking about a fan whose high decibel voice traveled a bit too far (like all the way into the MGRN broadcast booth) to suit Mr. Dunham's purpose. TRY TO FOLLOW THESE NEXT 2 PARAGRAPHS (if you can): : The Problem: If DD's 4 bowl games would have produced the kind of recruiting classes that one would expect 4 straight bowl appearances to produce, then most likey DD's Winter Recruiting class during those last 4 bowl year would have created a strong likelyhood that UNT would out-recruit Tulsa and La Tech with our annual fights with those schools for area recruits; THEN "if"......... we would have had such talent that (again) those 4 bowl games should have produced for UNT (but obviously didn't) we would have beaten both Tulsa University and Lousiana Tech University this Fall (2 schools who didn't go to 4 bowl games in a row by the way). .....yet if UNT would have had the normal results of those 4 bowl games, we would have then been competitive in the Sun Belt Conference in 2005 and because of that, the Arkansas State/UNT season ender last Saturday would have (probably) had bowl significance for both ASU & UNT and the race to the NO's (Lafayette) Bowl . So..........if every bit of the aformentioned would have happened, then UNT would have had (at least) twice as many Mean Green fans at Fouts Field last Saturday afternoon which would have created enough crowd noise as where George Dunham would have not had to share his mic time with a Mean Green fan who was only expressing his spirit that one would expect from an NT grad...........BTW, that Mean Green fan who (along with his family) were only just setting in their season tickets seats which (unfortuntely for the MGRN and due to a small crowd) created a scenario as where there would actually be, uh, 3 in the Fout Field Press Box. So long story short: If all of the aforementioned in the 2 (long) aforementioned paragraphs would have transpired, there would not have been a Mean Green Radio Network influenced drama after the ASU game. As this NT Class of 1976 alum has said in a couple other posts in recent days: This is just not the same North Texas that I used to know; that is, the same UNT that I could be proud of from top to bottom. The question of many now is just how long will it be where we as NT grads and Mean Green fans will be able to (once again) be proud of a UNT football program, that is, a program that sets higher goals than we have now and then hire the kind of personnel who have the proven talents and abilities to reach those goals? HERE WE GO AGAIN! THANKS, RAMONE, FOR SETTING THE EXAMPLE: Just last Saturday afternoon another NT athletic "employee-influenced" verbal attack took place. This was told me just in the last few days. It seems one of our fellow alums now seems to be getting gang tackled by UNT officials obviously trying to cover up for yet another NT employee-influenced lack of customer respect gone extremely bad. Would it not be prudent to think that our UNT fraternity of athletic employees should quit trying to spend all energies trying to (once again) cover for a fellow employee, but yet give an actual NT grad/Mean Green fan a chance to only give his side to the encounter that took place after the game? BTW, a Mean Green fan (NT grad) who had been going to games at Fouts long before anyone in our present Athletic Dept. arrived and will for sure be doing the same once they have all departed. One longtime UNT fan just this week told this me that a new attitude that seems to have sprung up at UNT recently is: The customers are always wrong. So to whom those on campus that this latest stadium NT employee/NT fan encounter concerns: Please give our fellow alum and Mean Green fan a valid reason why he and his family should continue to buy season tickets and show up for Mean Green football games in 2006. Hey, this Mean Green fan (and his family) could not help the fact that there were not enough fans at Fouts Field last Saturday as to where the Mean Green Radio Network guys had to (most involuntarily) share their broadcast microphone with a very loud fan. This longtime Mean Green fan could not help the fact that there was not a large enough attendance as to block his high-decibel yell that would carry all the way into the MGRN broadcast booth. But still......why another verbal attack on a customer, ie, an NT fan? Do we all now have to meet the MGRN's new "How To Be A Proper Mean Green Fan & DD Worshiper (just like us) modus operendi? And FWIW, fellow sports fans, we are still just hanging around that 15,000 per home game average at UNT so lets not try to reduce even those numbers..............one fan at a time. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  8. Helllsbells, emmitt01, I thought you were going to anounce to us that all that was what you were going to use to protect yourself from fan-related attacks by some NT Athletic Dept. employees. Whoops! Wait a minute! That was Silver Eagle concerning that and now..........do we have a M.G.R.N/gate situation brewing as described on KTCK 1310 "The Ticket" just days ago? Stay tuned! Never a dull moment on North Texas Boulevard, that's for gol' darn sure! GOD BLESS TEXANS AND THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO BE TEXANS!
  9. THIS POST MOSTLY FOR NEW LURKERS BECAUSE ITS MOSTLY MORE OF THE SAME FOR GMG.COM REGULARS... How many of you (leaving out the M.G.R.N.'s "Dee'Dickey" Kiss-Up Society); anyway, how many of you think when Coach Howard Schnellenberger brings his FAU team to Fouts Field next year (again) what kind of results we will probably have for the 3'rd year in a row against them? Many of you will all remember the first time they beat us (in yet another, uh, "bowl year" for DD) when that 1-AA team from the Sunshine State came in with Coach Howie' and it was he who out-coached (what else is new?) Darrell Dickey, but yet the worse part of it all? How about their beating us in "Our House" in 2004? If FAU had been in the SBC and with their win over Hawaii the week before they arrived at Fouts, just which school from the Miama area would have most likely represnted the SBC in the 2004 NO's Bowl? Yet these kind of low profile losses just kept occuring during almost each of DD's 4 bowl years if one would just merely do some checking. With such losses, I (for the life of me) cannot understand why some of you just go ahead doing the Texas 2 Step while allowing DD to do the Electric Slide (popular W. Fort Worth dance) with such losses? Why have we set our expectations so damn low is the question many more NT alums/fans are beginning to ask (that is, those who have yet to be Dickey'ized into Stepford Eagles). What kind of message are we sending? That its just normal, hunky-dory and acceptable for "any" 1-AA school to beat us in even a year that we have gone to a bowl? Maybe another reason Tulsa U and La Tech have obviously out-recruited UNT and even having pulled that off while we were going bowling for 4 years in a row? Please, I'm all ears here, but someone just tell me what is wrong that picture or scenario? Think such losses even take the luster off the NO's Bowl itself? Gee Willakers, no wonder our head football coach genuflects and crosses himself every time SBC Commish' Wright Waters walks into a room or is anywhere nearby. HATE TO BE REDUNDANT (AGAIN) BUT........Another such loss (in another, uh, "bowl year" for DD) was when another 1-AA school, ie, Troy State, beat us in 2001 and (again) had they been in the SBC that same year (as they had previously wanted), guess which football team from Alabama would have most likely been the SBC's first football champion host at the New Orleans Bowl? Many of us older types get a bit frustrated with way too much of this until we start remembering that most of you weren't around when we could (first of all) have a schedule like we had in 1975 and then (second of all) actually win some of those games from that 1975 Mean Green football schedule. Today most of the teams on many of the schedules at North Texas in the 1970's would be called "un-winnable" body bag games and just write them off as yet another Darrell Dickey OOC loss. At which point will those OOC games become a barometer of success for a UNT head football coach again? So I suppose if you haven't tasted that kind of (higher level) success as an NT student of which that very same kind of success would (understandably) become your own personal barometer for your alma mater's football success; then maybe its no wonder why some present NT students and some young gun alums just dont' see NT in any other light than SBC/Bottom 10. (So was all that negative or would some say just being realistic)? GOD BLESS NATIVE TEXANS (and some who got here as fast as they could)!
  10. Yet, fellas, it will still probably (at UNT) boil down to buIlding a state of the art campus in south Dallas County (only 15-20 miles from UTA BTW) while at the same time seeing monies that could be raised in Dallas for our main campus projects (both academic and athletic) going to south Dallas County instead. UNT has a very small financial endowment to have ever accepted this challenge, but to me all this was similar to that guy who bought the brand new 2006 XJS Jaguar with all the fanfare, praise and smiles from all the chicks, but then came the matter of...........making the payments on that Jaguar. Sorry to say this as an NT EX, but either TAMU or Texas Tech Systems presently have the kind of endowments that would most likely already would have had that campus off and running as a free standing university. They were the other 2 consideration by the south Dallas county officials led by Texas state senator (and ironic enough) ex UTA football player, ie, the honorable Royce West. I fear we will all one day agree that UNT-Denton and "would be" projects at our main campus will be the eventual loser with the UNT-Dallas project. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  11. God bless you, eulesseagle! I knew you'd finally come around! Seriously, though, it should encourage us all to see on this forum (whether we agree with each other or not) a helluva' lot of NT Exes and fans who do give a damn about all of our's alma mater and favorite sports team--the Mean Green of the University of North Texas.. That is most refreshing. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  12. If we slumber (again) at UNT, we will wake up to find other surprise hirings. Yet one man's negative is another man's positive? What part of what I and others are posting are negative? After all, there is a difference between being negative and realistic. If DD is your boy, TIgreen, then why don't you volunteer to serve as his talent agent with all the NCAA D1-A schools who are knocking his door down to hire him because of those 4 bowl games that our NT Board of Regents have yet to study NT football media guides to see just who we had to beat in a SBC/Bottom 10 conference to back-in to those 4 bowl games. Negative? No........I'd just say more blatant realism. But negative you say? I still defer to the most obvious 'tell tell" and red flag in all of this with DD. Once again, I think all the other NCAA D1-A school's (when they've had job openings the last 4 years) not putting Darrell Dickey on their serious list of candidates should be telling Bobby Ray, his Regents and NORTH TEXANS everywhere just what we really have in Denton, Texas. Then couple that with that same Mr. Ray who is most obviously abusing powers as chairman of the BOR's by single-handedly allowing even more multi-year under .500 W/L football mediocrity by DD to continue yet another year at a school that likes to use the word "excellence" in the content of many of its mailings we all get from campus. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  13. Any questions now? This really should concern all who graduated from UNT-Denton. This campus will prevent UNT from building a new football stadium in Denton at at time we will really need that stadium. Bobby Ray and any of his NT Board of Regents would have to deny that, of course, but it is clearly a reasonable theory that even some of you have been fearing for awhile now with our SMU graduated Chancellor. When has SMU ever been a positive for UNT? Maybe, uh, when we were trying to improve ourselves athletic conference-wise? Oh, I forgot, that was not one of those times when SMU was our friend. Just when have they been? Now we are hiring from "private university" SMU at the 4'th largest "public" university in Texas? Come on, Bobby boy, you are losing popularity votes with the very NT constituency and community that will be stuck with some of your decison-making, hiring habits and your non-ability to fire those who have become your new buddies, too. SMU alumnus/UNT Chancellor "no-Phd" Lee Jackson will most likely play a very big part in the de-emphases of NCAA D1-A football at UNT-Denton. Will we all slumber with such an athletic de-emphases, too? Did any of you read "no Phd" Jackson's recent "obviously" skewed against NT Athletics survey? Were you impressed how NT Athletics was sort of an after-thought in the former Dallas County judge's survey and how he probably wants to see as "his" version of a future University of North Texas? Will SMU'ers everywhere rejoice? We are getting zoomed once again at UNT, fellow alums, but maybe we should not stand still (and silent) this time? After all, we are living proof of a Mean Green Nation that did such while allowing handful of yahoos from the state of Kansas (for crissakes') to run a QB sneak of a head football coaching hire on us 8 years ago. A hire whose continued under .500 8 year record may eventually be as harmful as Lee Jackson's big plans for a UNT-Dallas and his 'non-plans for UNT-Denton. Someone please correct me with where I am wrong with most all this? I can be a good listener. Just wish we could get others on campus to listen to their very own UNT constituency, though. GOD BLESS TEXAS (and to Dorothy & Toto: Do go ahead and just stay in Kansas).
  14. Rick, if I may ask the question, where do you stand with Darrell Dickey as the future of Mean Green football, though? If that too nosey a question, I apologize. BUT...........one good statistical football season does not a coach's entire career make at UNT (or at least we all hope it doesn't). The UNT defensive line I saw this Fall I'm not sure can turn it 180 degrees as to become stoppers with the 2006 OOC football schedule I've seen and an SBC that is now even (but probably moreso ahead since we are now at the bottom) with a Dickey-led football team. And come on, fellow alums/fans, as far as our 2 defensive linemen Issac Thomas and Big Cat Raymond? They had been the rage of Spring football in the past, but many other players are the rage of Spring Football that many times never translates to Fall football. The 2 aforementioned had many on this board acting if both would have played this Fall, that there would have been a big difference with our DL play--well, maybe so--maybe not. Question: Is T.J. Raymond in class at UNT or a JUCO and does he even plan on trying to come back to NT next football season? Anyone know? On another subject, there will be even more like Rice's Coach Hatfield on the look for new head football coaching jobs. Not sure his style of offense is what UNT needs as far as us to see significantly increased football ticket sales that will take our school to that 30,500 per game averages which I hope is our goal for attendance at UNT. I think we all know that would be Rick V's goal; now if he were only allowed to hire his football staff that willl give him a chance to leave 15,000 per home game averages behind forever (and that even that "AFTER" , uh, 4 bowl games, fellow alums AND....... NT Board of Regents. Anyone else think another Hayden Fry-type hire or a Mike Price or (even a completely 100% exxonerated) Rick Neuheisel hire might synergize the entire Mean Green Nation and NT community with a positive new beginning and approach that we desparately need to have right now? A new beginning that much too biased management happening at a Texas public university is presently delaying UNT's eventual football future? And that with a coach who will be an NT community team player kind of head football coach who doesn't kick its alums around on the radio non-stop AND..............such a new higher profile hire that would even give Rick V an additional NT Athletic Dept. fundraiser in these times when we of UNT need one raising monies for the main campus AND not..............Chancellor "no-Phd" Lee Jackson's UNT-Dallas pink elephant project that is still not a free standing university yet. Come on now, dump that school, boys. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and Texas Legislature probably now know the truth about our bold (but not real smart) under-taking of that south Dallas County project. With the UNT System's ridiculously low financial endowment, we cannot afford the drain of potential monies that would normally find their way to UNT-Denton; and who knows, monies that might even build us a new football stadium? Jumpin' Jehosophats! Are we living through an episode of the Twilight Zone at UNT these days? Dad gum it! Someone come out here to the Parker County country-side and take all this truth serum away from me! I know, not the truth to all, but the truth as many more are beginning to see it. Most of the themes posted above in this post I've heard from some of you, BTW. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  15. bump...
  16. Come on now, meangreendork, take off the glasses. First of all, we start the season 0 & 3 with the schedule I've seen, ie UT, SMU and then we travel to Tulsa. The 4'th game is vs. MTSU. Can we really beat a MUTS team that will be freshly energized by a brand new head football coach? How close was our game with the MUTS this year? We all know that answer. So could we even start 2006 with an 0 & 4 record? Time to get the attorneys to work on yet another contract extension? I won't even go into the remainder of the 2006 schedule which one of you pointed out to me that we play our toughest SBC foes on the road. Do we give DD a pay raise with that additional extension? But who comes into play on the MG defensive line next year? Do you see that line making a 180 degree turn around (which is what would have to happen)? You remember the NT defensive line, right? The same one that each time our opponents hiked the ball our DL had already been pushed back 1-2 yards? That will be the main reason most every team I see on the 2006 football schedule with even average RB's we may turn them into All Americans. Remember even how new SBC team and (not yet) fully NCAA D1-A FAU pushed us around at the end of the game? Do we out-coach and beat a Howard Schnellenberger team at Fouts in (only) our 3'rd try? Many of our elect seem to have already forgotten SMU's 2 major wins over TCU and UTEP this year; also a SMU team that improved remarkably compared to past teams. You know why SMU can do that and UNT can't? R-E-C-R-U-I-T-I-N-G EZ Question: If UNT would have played TCU, UTEP or other CUSA schools SMU beat this season, how would we have fared? But we can still burn another year with a coach who sitll has an 8 years under .500 record. This is just not the University of North Texas I used to be proud of from top to bottom. 8 years, folks, 8 years....... GBT!
  17. Make that, uh, goats, GGII. (20 of them who only like me because I feed them everyday--rain or shine). GBT!
  18. FOR LURKERS ONLY/THE REST OF YOU HAVE HEARD THIS 1,000 OTHER X'S Dallas Green, myself and others on this board saw Hayden Fry (who because some of our young gun alums I'm afraid have been Dickey-ized & because of that would have most likely even said back in 1972 that we wouldn't be able to hire such a name coach at UNT); anyway, what many of us saw in the Fall of 1973 was Coach Fry take a Rod Rust football team that the year before was 1 and 10 and then we saw Fry turn (basically) that same Rod Rust football team into conference champions (which even a win over U of Louisville in 1973). WE HAVE SOME DAMN GOOD FB PLAYERS ON OUR TEAM NOW...Wish they would collectively go have a heart to heart with Bobby Ray if they think the rest of their careers at UNT could be better with a "Coach Price" or "Coach Fry" type hire. (Of course, such a meeting would be chancey' for their future playing tme since BR and DD are on the same SBC/Bottom 10 page). Yet its just that many of us don't think our (most deserving) present Mean Green football players will ever reach their potentials individually and, subsequently, as a team with DD in charge next season or the next or the next. Lets think back now on some Dickey-Ball starting with Tulsa, FAU, La Tech U, U of S. Florida, a 1-AA Troy St. loss in 2001--our, uh, first bowl year? .................................................................................................... Still the all time "tell tell' with DD and those 4 bowl games? How about the cold stark reality that not one NCAA D1-A school has yet to put him on their serious list as a head coach candidate? Are there just a handul here getting the message with that? A sky-written message by ACME Sky-Writer, Inc couldn't make it more obvious or more plain. ..................................................................................................... Still, our present (at the top) UNT leaders are fine with sacrificing the 2006 football season while there is a "Coach Price" or "Coach Fry" out there just waiting in the wings to come to UNT and be everything to our campus, the Denton community, DFW NT Exes and one would probably even pull up his sleeves to help to raise some significant monies that his name ID alone would help; all the aforementioned things that DD has shunned from the git-go in the opinion of many. We need to turn Bobby Ray's response to a question posed to him last Saturday post-ASU loss on how our stadium fund-raising is going from........nowhere..............to: You know, since we hired "Coach Higher Profile/With Name ID" you can't believe some of the doors in the DFW area we are now getting in. After all, we have history on our side in Denton, folks, and that is how a "1" win football season in 1972 was changed to conference winnner in 1973, but again, the pedigree of our head football coach in Denton in 1973 started with 2 words in a name: Hayden Fry If the Mo' Valley had had a bowl tie-in, Fry would have probably kept us in it that league for awhile and would have gone to several Mo' Valley sponored bowl games with the quality of teams we saw, but the most impressive part of Fry's resume toward the end of his tenure in Mean Green Country were wins over schools a DD-led NT football program could only fantasize about winning at this moment. Our present Mean Green players (dammit') just deserve a better chance to be successful in OOC play (and now even SBC/Bottom 10 play) than they've been getting if you look real close at the DD Years in an NT FB media guide. So come on Mr. Ray, do the right thing for your alma mater. Make the Mean Green Nation be proud once again of who our head football coach is--not embarrassed when disses his employer and his employer's fans/alums on the radio. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  19. MeanMag, for decades many of us have seen NT officials come up with whatever amount of monies they need that would handle any employee's contract at UNT, even Darrell Dickeys. Actually, I believe there are clauses in his present contract that says he can either be bought out for some kind of minimum (dont' quote me on that one) or as most schools draw up their football coach's contracts, pay the amount out spread over a selected number of years. Bobby Ray's inabilty to be unbiased concerning a coach in his 8'th year still under .500, ie, one Darrell R. Dickey is the problem here, not DD's contract. I never thought he would be fired after this Fall although there is enough evidence to do so if any of our Board of Regents would merely get an NT FB Media Guide to discover for themselves how the worst conference in NCAAA D1-A, ie, the SBC/Bottom 10, has made the man a folk hero with a few in MG Country. Of course, that group (sometimes) are the very ones who don't want to talk about DD's OOC record against even wussy OOC schools we have played (who beat us). GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  20. IF IT LOOKS LIKE A SKUNK, SMELLS LIKE A SKUNK, SPRAYS LIKE A SKUNK THEN..........IT MUST BE OUR PRESENT UNT LEADERSHIP AT THE TOP? (Would our bespeckled Chancellor possibly have his hit squad to skew the results of "HIS" survey to meet his personal agenda)?!?!?!? Dallas Green, I also emailed a filled out survey with (yall know me by now) a "short" over-view as to why athletics is important to a school like UNT that has such a pitiful and piss-poor financial endowment that we need to get national recognition somehow--why not D1-A Top 25 football? Beggin' my pardon to our NT College of Music who have made us all proud, but one Sunday SportsPage write-up of any Mean Green football game will command more ink than yall will get in one full year--sorry, but thats the way it is, trombone section fellas'. Of course with the survey, I was a bit more diplomatic with my written content than I am on GMG.com where I let it all hang out as some of you have told me. (insert a Sylvestor the Cat "I just got caught" grin). Gut feeling with Lee Jackson from the git-go has always been that he is a red and blue bespeckled snake in the grass that our main campus in Denton will ultimately suffer because of (#1) his personally being selected for the Chancellor job by (who the hell else) one Bobby Ray............ and (#2) with the charge by Mr. Ray for LJ do whatever it takes to get UNT-Dallas into a free standing status. Remember how one GoMeanGreen.com poster reported that Bobby Ray said last Saturday that we (he?) are getting "no-where" with any progress for funds for a new football stadium at UNT-Denton/ Eagle Point Campus? Well.............. duh...........what other red flags do we as NT Exes need to observe to possibly understand why? Where will Texas and DFW area Fortune 500 companies be asked by Chancelor "no Phd" Lee Jackson to divert the really Big Bucks? Perhaps (and just maybe) to the Mean Green Athletic Village out at Eagle Point Campus for a new football stadium? Yeah right, all indications now are that day will come closer to happening when a Darrell Dickey-led NT football team wins a football game outside the SBC/Bottom 10 or beats a 4'th place CUSA team in a bowl (which we may not see for awhile now). Anyway, Chancellor "no-Phd." Lee Jackson (of Dallas, Texas) will by assignment from B. Ray put about 100% of his time and emphasis at the south Dallas county campus (and what would ordinarily be fund-raising monies that could go to UNT-Denton will be diverted to a south Dallas County campus that is having a very difficult time now getting any significant numbers of students. THIS WAS THE ICING ON THE CAKE FOR THIS NT EX CONCERNING UNT-DALLAS; Anyone else think it funny (maybe even more sad) that some of our best known NT Ex football players from the Mean Joe Greene era of the laste 1960's have a golf tourney each year to raise monies for, uh, well............... UNT-Dallas? HELLO! ANYBODY ELSE OUT THERE SEEING EVEN MORE RED FLAGS WITH A BOBBY RAY LED UNT!?!?!?!? Of course, a part of the monies some of the best players to ever play college football anywhere who put on this annual golf tourney receives some KUDO's as part of what they raise goes to a cause for a friend to many of us, ie, the Ron Shanklin Scholarship Fund. But dad gum it, why haven't those guys thru all the years done something (similar) for the main campus in Denton from where they received their own scholarships and the very campus where they played the game of college football? ? ? ? Bobby Ray? You know that NCAA D1-A collegiate sports management prodigy and guru who along with NT lifetime employee and his Boy, Darrell Dickey will (after they work all their magic) have us in NCAA Division II (not even 1-AA); that is by the time Mr. Ray finishes gracing us with all his decision-making abilties which hopefully is 2007. And for sure, he really is a successful businessman? ? CAN'T STOP LAUGHING OVER THIS ONE: While on the subject or our Napoleon of the North, aren't we all proud to hear that his grandson is on the Mean Green varsity basketball team, albeit sitting on the pine? Mr. Ray, I have a nephew who can shoot the eye out of the basket with those NBA range 3 pointers who plays at a high school out in east Texas, can we give him a try-out with Coach Jones as to where he would make the team, even if its just sitting on the bench? Man oh man..........only at UNT, right? Folks, with all that is now coming to surface with the very people we have trusted to effectively (and successfully) run the 4'th largest "PUBLIC" (sorry Lee O' Boy) university in the state of Texas, these are just not the best of time for our alma mater IMO. EVEN SADDER? THE NT COMMUNITY OBVIOUSLY SLUMBERS (once again, just as we did when DD was pushed upon us by the KSU boys)..........YET WE ALL SLEEP WHILE ALL THE TIME WE ARE STILL ALLOWING OUR OWN LEADERS TO HAVE THEIR WAY WITH US. (Hopefully someone didn't forget to bring along the, uh, KY). GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  21. Surely you jest? But if not.......... If DD's 4 bowl games (that have some of our Regents in a state of DD hero worship) anyway, if those 4 BIG BOWL GAMES have not gotten Darrell Dickey even one listing as a serious candidate for other NCAA D1-A head football coaching vacancies the last 4 years, why after a (clearly visbile to most who will swallow a little pride to admit this); anyway, why after 8 years of under .500 production at UNT from DD and not one Top 60 OOC win, why would any of those you list, eally, be interested in DD now? At a normal school, he would be gone after his ASU loss. If he wins 4 games next year further widening an under .500 W/L differential , with the group we presently have making decisions at UNT, I'm not sure he would be gone even then. Also add that most "normal" NCAA D1-A football schools would sorta' like to hire someone that has the proven ability (or serious potential) to take their program to a Top 25 standing. After 4 bowl games with DD, UNT still can't even smell or see the Top 25 in the distance. And most schools out there by now know you just won't get such a coach's job if they were to hire Darrell "But I Went To 4 Bowl Games" Dickey. Jeez! Are we part of a new Twilight Zone episode at UNT with all this? GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  22. Good post, Tony. Rick V is a promoter, ie, a P.T. Barnum, a Bill Veek (formerly of MLB fame), a Russ Potts (of SMU Mustang Mania fame) and Rick Villerreal knows he can't package and market Darrell Dicky-Ball style of football at a non-BCS locale like Denton, Texas. He knows how many Mean Green fans have felt about DD for awhile now, especially in light of DD's numerous condescending remarks about his very employer and its fans (and all that on the radio to boot). Rick Villarreal also knows that we of UNT are better than just 15,000 fans per game (minimal) turnstile numbers, too. Now if our Napoleon of the North will just do this: LET RICK VILLARREAL PERFORM THE JOB WE PAY HIM TO DO AND THAT'S TO RUN THE DAMN UNT ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT (and that includes all hirings and firings). These are not the best of times at UNT no matter how many of you have been blind-sided (Dickey-ized) and have bought into the disguised successes of DD just as KingDL1 (and many others) have described; and to those who (just like me) finally got their heads out of the sand to take a closer look at whats really been going on with all this in Denton. Folks, there are many in the SBC/Bottom 10 who do not want there to ever be a UNT when Darrell Dickey is not on the staff as its head football coach now that they have passed us by; and there are many of our collegiate collegues here in the DFW Metroplex who are merely just shaking their heads at what they are seeing happen at UNT. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  23. The shame to many with all these last 8 years is how some good NT fans have become..........DARRELLL DICKEY-IZED. Mediocrity is a disease that has spread on the UNT campus; but just like a cancerous arm, you eventually have to just cut the thing off. If a UTEP can hire a Price, and a UNT who once hired (who many of you "Dickey-ized" would have said back then would be an "un-hirable" Hayden Fry) then can't most see that we are not any less of a school than UTEP; in fact, many would say that UNT's upside for eventual long-term NCAA D1-A success will always be better than that of UTEP. So pleezzzzzzzzzz.....just get that DD level stinkin' thinkin' out of your systems. You'll feel better about yourself and your alma mater's future. The present NT head football coach has to have your apathy, acceptance of his "woe is us" mentality and a bottom of the rung SBC/Bottom 10 league existence to be successful and to fool a helluva' lot of well meaning fans. Hellsbells, some of you are ready for him to run for freakin' President next election (because you perceive him to be one of the good ol' boys). Just take your thought processing back to the numerous radio opps in recent years that Darrell Dickey could have said good things about UNT (who writes his paychecks) and its loyal fans, but instead, he chose the low road with the approval of the Napoleon of the North (who some still didn't recognize his name as even a Mean Green football fan until he gets his appointment to the BOR's. We have some real stranger than hell things (and decisions) happening at our school now, folks. This NT Ex will be glad when this era is history and thats for damn sure. YET...........an eventual change will be cause for great celebration whenever it occurs and when UNT shows some Dickey-ized brow-beat fans/alums that we can be just like a UTEP and get a coach in here who doesn't have time to bash his employer or its fans, but rather a coach (who like Price did for UTEP) puts UNT in the Top 25 (where we haven't been since the 1970's). How soon will such lofty heights as Top 25 have some of you wondering why we didn't do it sooner? GOD BLESS TEXAS! PS: These non-stop posts on DD are not for longtime GMG.com members, posters or readers of posts, but they are for the on-campus lurkers who we know are now frequenting this board (especially now) and I (from my standpoint) am not going to to miss a beat with the overall discontent and disenchantment many of us feel (and have felt) toward Darrell Dickey for longer than just this year, some of that discontent not even related to W/L's if you know what I mean on that.
  24. First of all, some confidential emails from longtime alums/friends yet expressing confidentiality which I've always given if requested. For the ones on campus who know UNT lately is much about politics and kiss-up (of which Dickey has been more effective with that part than he has being a coach or a, uh, "radio" personality. ; anyway, they probably want to be on the correct side of a new NT president with all this when he or she gets hired. For those not on campus, they are contributors who just don't get involved with these kind of message board disscussion that sometime turn to diatribe status. They want to maintain their rapport and connections on campus that getting involved with this unique kind of dialogue we have going here on GMG.com would significantly affect (or destroy). I don't blame either groups from both on or off campus. They depend on some of us grunts to express how they feel. Just got another email from one last night who said: Preach on, brother! DD's overall W/L record in 8 years, his last 5 years against a bunch of (mostly) just out of 1-AA schools in a league (SBC/Bottom 10) of which that group are still experiencing the growing pains of a new NCAA D1-A existence. Except I suppose the year Troy U beat us (2001) you know, our first bowl game in a long time, but if the Trojans had been in the SBC in 2001 (as they wanted) it would have been the Trojans 1'st bowl game ever and the Trojans who would have been the SBC's 1's t bowl rep in the NO's Bowl. For you who don't understand the concept of veiled and disguised success, doesn't even that 2001 Troy U win over UNT yet DD' Irish luck once again comes to this rescue? As many disappointing OOC losses and those losses (now) to too many 1-AA teams moving to 1-A who only just begun playing football in recent years, DD's Lucky (yet very easy for most to even see thru, especially those who never have yet to give him one interview for other 1-A job openings) Charms seems to be just fine for SBC/Bottom 10 existence, except now even that league has passed Dickey Ball, Dickey Attitude, Dickey Lack of Propensity for Change and even more that has come to the surface lately, Dickey Recruiting the last few years and what we all can see it has produced. For all of you who support all of the aforementioned, many of you were some of the loudest protesters during years of Dickey Radio Bashing aimed at you and the rest of us PLUS the always............Dickey Ball; anyway, I guess many are just curious why many of yours sudden 180 degree turnarounds of acceptance and approval of this now? Doe$n't make $en$e with thi$ DD bu$ine$$, you know? Again, just why this Bobby Ray influenced acceptance of a Dickey-led football program (going south) and what any college football novice would quickly (after a look in the NT FB Media Guide as a pretty solid soure) recognize as one of the biggest sham jobs done by an imposter would-be D1-A head football coach whose background before UNT was mostly that of a journeyman college football assistant coach (check the media guide). AND WORSE...........what longtime UNT officials and the UNT community allowed to be pushed on them by a very small handful of "pre-Bill Snyder Success" KSU connection boys to push each and every part of a Darrell Dickey hire (now going on an unprecedented 9 years of under .500) down a helluva' bunch of Texans throats. BTW, I've got some ocean front property out here in Parker County I want to talk to some of you about, in fact, some of you might get as excited about that as one more year that Darrell Dickey will get to prove to even more his mediocrity(including, again, NCAA D1-A schools who will still not have him on their "serious list" as a candidate for their higher profile job openings). You know, many of us would love to once again have a head football coach at UNT that a Big 10 school would want to hire. UNT can and has done better. Why Bobby Ray wants to play Big Man on Campus, ie, our Napoleon of the North to piss off a whole bunch of NT Exes and Mean Green fans is beyond many and trust me on that.........many. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
  25. Plumm is not alone with his feeling of both Bobby Ray and Darrell Dickey, TIgreen, and that is a guarantee. Can't name names, but there are some recogizable names among the UNT community that are ready for DD's 8 year career to soon become history and for Bobby Ray to let Rick V be the real AD at UNT. My main problem with Bobby Ray is I don't think he will ever give Darrell Dickey an unbiased job evalution, but strange as that sounds, at most NCAA D1-A schools all of that (including hire/fire decisions) usually falls under the job description of a school's Athletic Director. Bobby Ray (as has been reported by some who were there) stepped over those boundaries 5 years ago when he was said to have over-ruled Rick V's firing of DD post ULM loss in Monroe. I think anyone would agree that that is a poor management style and especially at the 4'th largest university in the state of Texas. Put yourselves in Rick V's shoes as an employee at the University of North Texas. For NT football to go forward, we need one less Bobby Ray and about 1,000 more Rick V's on our campus, no matter where either of them went to school. Bobby Ray has involved himself way too much with NT Athletics when his other buddy he hired, Lee Jackson could probaby use him more in helping him to (sometimes this century) get the pink elephant of the UNT System, ie, UNT-Dallas to a point to where it is a free standing university. UNT-Dallas IMHO will prevent UNT-Denton from ever builiding a new football stadium among many other things that would have ordinarily gone to our main campus if not for this ridiculous wast of taxpayers monies UNT-Dallas project. Hellsbells, folks, UTA is only 15-20 miles from UNT-Dallas and anyone who would be going to a university would be able to afford gas to make a 15-20 mile drive to a UTA campus, right? In light of the NT BOR chairman's continuance of Darrell Dickey's contract even if its just one more year, I now hope Bobby Ray will not be renewed his post by Gov. Perry in 2007 when he is supposed to go off the board. I just think he is a very meddlesome chairman of the BOR's who does not allow hired UNT personel do their jobs with Rick V as the prime example of that. We could be ready for CUSA membership if Rick V could have fired and hired another man 5 years ago, because I think many on this board know we won't get any higher than SBC/Bottom 10 success with DD. That won't get all of you who want to change leagues into the closest one to UNT, ie, CUSA. I'd almost bet many academian outsiders in the Metroplex and beyond are beginning to once again laugh at UNT with all this Chinese fire-drill business or Keystone Cops comedy with the way our school is beginning to conduct its business. GOD BLESS TEXAS!
