When Dallas Cowboys super scout & NFL Hall of Famer Gil Brandt toured a newly opened Apogee Stadium & then with his unsolicited comments of high praise for the stadium I think many knew we had something special. I think many of us were proud that it wasn’t an all aluminum stadium like UCF & others ended up with; of course, they’re in the Big 12 & uh, well, we’re not.😌 (UCF maybe should have had their builders add in the contract with their school an annual spraying of Rustoleum since I understand that rust has been an issue). I believe AD Wren Baker & Company will have much to do with very positive future cosmetic changes for Apogee beginning with the completion of an already half built end zone facility (as in the Athletic Center) & eventually a double deck added on the east side (student side). Could we not fill such an expanded Apogee when already scheduled Baylor, Texas Tech & (probably) others similar come to town? With a record-breaking 2021 UNT Fall enrollment & one I believe the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board says will reach 50,000 students at the Denton campus, many new Mean Green fans will subsequently be a natural by-product of all this growth. It’s all good what’s going on up there. Just add wins. ❇️🦅❇️

Maybe I heard it on the MGRN, but someone (somewhere) said QB Jace Ruder has really only been in Denton for 2 months? Jeez! Then he starts against a school the other night who is far superior in portal recruiting & selling their “Pony-Up” product? I hope we will catch up in all phases up in Denton since PonyKingdom seems to be our role model? (I know—BITE MY 👅 TONGUE)! 🙃 If only 2 months, then the guy has absorbed much in so little time without the luxury of being here during Spring Football & so my take is to just give him more than 2 games to develop in being— “the QB” who can get us back to winning. I think even a Mean Green fan novice would know that North Carolina’s Mack Brown first recruited Jace Ruder so the young man had to have something. I look forward to watching him develop even more this Saturday at fabulous Apogee Stadium, but 500 yards offense (even with only 12 points) shows his future games will be vertical in getting yardage—we just need more points & I’d wager J.R. knows that more than anyone. ❇️🦅❇️ BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF USB!

Remembering back how (then) UH Coog’s Coach Kevin Sumlin had to call 2 “way too much crowd noise” timeouts in the inaugural game at Apogee; if just a fair percentage of UNT students from our school’s record enrollment of over 42,000 show up Saturday, we’ll have crowd noise that UAB will not soon forget. Some have said in years past that an impressive home crowd can even be worth a touchdown. GMG!

No Torrey this Saturday vs. UAB? 😳 NTSN, do you happen to have UAB’s injury report?

Disgusted by the SMU Gameday experience.
PlummMeanGreen replied to WanderingEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
And like him or not we can all salute Rick Villarreal & the UNT students of that era. Apogee happened under RV’s watch. Some of us never dreamed it would happen in our lifetime. 🔹Former Dallas Cowboys super scout & new NFL Hall of Fame inductee Gil Brandt said after a tour: “Apogee Stadium is a Taj Mahal of college football stadiums & trust me—I’ve seen them all.” ❇️🦅❇️ -
I think those who keep grieving over the SMU loss & don’t come to Apogee this Saturday because of it are going to miss one helluva’ college football game. 🦅❇️🦅
-
I forgot about that. In the past the MGRN guys would press SL on injuries & he left them awkwardly hanging. They stopped asking him about injuries 2-3 years ago.😁 🦅

untcampbell, the real surreal moments were back in the 1970’s at Fouts Field when my (then) TWU girlfriend & I made sure we sat within hearing range of you because of your “very loud” comical game comments. 😎

Still no injury report on Torrey, Bush & others? 😷🤒🥴🤕

I saw the SMU team (they paid for) play UNT, ie, their Stangs team which gave them the Death Penalty. After following SMU’s portal recruiting the last 2 years the group that beat us the other night may be their best collection of talent since their Death Penalty teams. Not sure I’d base this whole MG season on that loss the other night. 🦅

DRC: Five quick thoughts on UNT's loss to SMU
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
First of all concerning SMU: Who really thought we had a chance with their All Star team of transfers from P5 schools starting with their OU transfer QB? This SMU team may have been their best collection of talent many of us have seen since the group of players they paid (or bribed) to come to SMU which gave them their Death Penalty. (A closer score would have been nice). Response to GM: Maybe some of us thought we were LaTech alums for one brief shining moment?😆 Look at their list of impressive wins in the past? That school does so much with so little. You have to admire that. Time for UNT to start doing much because we have much (& with Wren Baker as AD we will have more). I think that process has already begun. We do have some catching up to do & that spans many UNT Head football coaches from the past. Like Deep Green posted the other day of which I totally agree with him (& I loosely paraphrase) “It can be difficult being a Mean Green fan.” Truer words... For those on GMG who’ve completely lost it because of frustration (& haven’t we all at some point)—but they might want to consider taking a sabbatical from all this (which most of us have also done at some point), but don’t stop supporting the team at Apogee; that is, the team that many of us stay on this forum an average of 1-3 or more hours a day talking about? Still confusing to ya’? -
So our fans are all front-runner bandwagon jumper-on’er type fans who don’t want to be seen at Apogee unless it’s fashionable to be seen there, but only when things are going great guns inside our house? Sounds more like the school that’s located in one city but is begging for support from another. 😊I know what your saying, HG, just wish before I kick the bucket that it would change. 🦅

Seth now officially on the hot seat
PlummMeanGreen replied to Hunter Green's topic in Mean Green Football
Who is saying SL’s “officially” on the hot seat? A handful of fans who have had an agenda against Seth Littrell even during two 9 &2 seasons in a row? Maybe they have an uncle, relative or friend of a friend who would like Littrell’s job? You never know about these things. ••• Now someone give me one of those yellow “confused” emoticons, but tell all of us why your so confused? Can you put all that in a complete sentence? Surprise us. 🦅 -
Bump...... Any updates on Torrey’s, Bush’s & any other injuries last night? After reading a few comments some UAB fans & I guess some Blazer football players; anyhow, they are very confident about whooping some Mean Green ass this Saturday. ATTENDANCE: UAB will start averaging 40K per home game once they christen their new stadium. UTSA very well could too this season or at least 35K. Yes, SA is a large city, yet UNT has the same population in Denton County as inside San Antonio’s city limits so don’t even try to go with SA is so much larger. ••• The question is what excuses will we have to not average 30K per game which should be a piece of cake if you look at the various UNT constituencies from which we have to draw from. •••The record-breaking 2021 UNT Freshmen class should give us 2,500 new MG fans for this 2021 season plus whoever that group would bring to the game. 🔺🔹🐎 Why are SMU’ers still on this forum? 🦅

Bulldog fan PLEASE HELP!!! Hate SMU
PlummMeanGreen replied to BulldogHelper's topic in Mean Green Football
HG, how much home-cooking have we ever gotten from CUSA refs at our own stadium? And UAB? Drop football for 2 years & then come back as one of 2 CUSA darlings? What a concept. 🦅 -
Methinks we’re all trying to rush the youth development still only into the 2’nd game of the 2021 season. There’s still what many to believe (even from recruiting services) to be some good young talent at UNT. Didn’t 247 rank our last recruiting class as #1 in CUSA? ••• Forget SMU—this 2021 UNT football team is still going to be fun to watch as it develops. Less injuries to key offensive performers would be nice. 🤮 I’m sick about last night, too, but knowing SMU did much better in the portal than we did the last several recruiting seasons proved to me it was predictable to happen & it sure did. (Yet after all, wasn’t it SMU who perfected the method of recruiting almost 3 years ago that took them from a good old fashioned slobber’knockin at Apogee in 2018 to last night? Chock one up for the Stangs. Some think Sonny Dykes is on a mission to better his resume so he can get a bigger, better job at a Power 5 school. Such a school that draws the total capacity of Ford Stadium in their end zone seating alone. Dykes is also smart enough to know SMU is not going to meet P5 criteria in his lifetime. ❇️🦅❇️ (And Gray Eagle, I agree with your post in another thread the other day saying we do need to have a 40,000 seat Apogee Stadium to do what is do-able at a school like North Texas).

DRC: Five quick thoughts on UNT's loss to SMU
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Seems after the debunked wildcat call the momentum for Ruder & the offense shifted almost immediately & completely in SMU’s favor. (I bet SL takes control of the play calling vs UAB although I bet that change won’t be advertised). ••• Folks, SMU has had 27+ high profile portal transfers in recent seasons. Their inspiration to begin that (then) new kind of recruiting modus operandi started (I would wager) the Sunday morning after UNT unhinged & dismembered the self-proclaimed Dallas darlings at Apogee 3 short years ago. 🦅 -

I’m not mad that the band didn’t travel to SMU…
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreenEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Silver, I think the expected high temp did; albeit was not as bad as the Apogee season opener. I fear this new variant could take us all back to the 2020 football season before it’s all over with. I took a friend & fellow UNT alum to his 1’st cousin’s pharmacy here in Weatherford on Friday to get a J&J vaccine. If they have a booster for J&J, l’ll be first in line! ❇️🦅❇️ GMG! BEAT UAB WORSE THAN GEORGIA DID (or even a 1 point win will suffice). •••Our crowd size could do much in this game. Don’t jump off the ship, yet, as I expect most on this forum won’t. -
If SMU is not Dallas’ team already, just when is that phenomena supposed to take place &.......UNT is not the only school in the NCAA with a lopsided W/L record with a rival. How’s about the Sooners/Wildcats series? OU—-76 wins***Kansas St.—-21 wins. Kansas State has won the last 2 in a row from the Sooners. Come on Mean Green let’s start a new win streak tomorrow evening in University Park. 🦅

Altering poster’s comments seems to be happening with several on this forum, ww. ☹️ __________________________ Hey tmjerm! How far back with the UH Coogs do you go? Below pic says how far I go except it goes even further back to about 1960, but methinks I may be a couple or so years older than you?🙄😊 ••• Houston Astrodome, January 20, 1968 ••• UH Coogs vs UCLA “The Big E vs Lew Alcindor (before he changed his name) •••We had terrible seats that night & binoculars didn’t make it much better.👀 Late sportscaster Dick Enberg credits this one game with taking NCAA basketball from a regional sport to a full blown national one leading to what would become March Madness, ie, The Big Dance. (In 1964 I was 13 & fortunate to see the UH Freshmen team at Delmar Fieldhouse that consisted of Elvin Hayes, Don Chaney, Theotis Lee, Kenny Spain & (I think) George Reynolds. They were destined for greatness although Guy Lewis’ team never won an NC—seems John Wooden & UCLA were always in the way.☹️ 🐎🦅 BEAT THE HELL OUT OF SMU—😳NORTH TEXAS! (in a Christian sort of way, of course).🙃

Seth Littrell Show Podcast pre-SMU game
PlummMeanGreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Wren Baker said something about wanting to schedule more P5 home & homes (as he’s done with Baylor & Texas Tech); his wanting to talk to SMU about even more games & possibly naming the series to honor the one who coached at both schools; he talked about re-scheduling the Houston Coogs game that was postponed in 2020 because of Covid albeit I noticed he didn’t mention the postponed TAMU game that was to pay us (I think) $1.2 million? -
