  1. The UNT crowd that New Years Day in the Cotton Bowl was the largest gathering of Mean Green fans many of us had seen in all the years prior to that bowl game up to present day. Sure I drink too much green koolade, but now (today) we have the largest contingency of MG fans (& potential MG fans) I swear are ready to bust out to duplicate such Apogee crowds as we drew in very recent years vs SMU, LaTech & Houston. We just have to.......W-I-N ! I listen to WBAP (DFW) most early weekday mornings & TCU football broadcaster Brian Estridge who saw that 1-1-2014 bowl game said he was very impressed with the Mean Green following on that day. 🦅
  2. January 1, 2014<*>11:00 AM at the Cotton Bowl Stadium The Mountain West Conference UNLV Rebels vs the Mean Green of UNT. It was a full sunshiny day. Many fans on both sides would get sunburned faces. The North Texas Mean Green were ready for their bowl game—TEXAS STYLE! 🦅
  3. And he will. Seth has not forgotten how to Coach in 6 years here. Again, I think turning down a Big 12 job just got to him. Hell, it would with most. (Let’s shake hands & part friends when this is all over). 🦅
  4. Of course, Patrick Cobbs would have most likely been on DC’s Texas Football State top 100 that year had he gone to HS in the Lone Star State. 🦅
  5. Silver Eagle & the rest of us who will soon be victimized at a Texas Assisted Living Center; anyhow, we’d tell all you young whippersnappers that we beat a 7 win Tennessee Volunteers football team with Glenn Ray—our 3’rd string Quarterback!😱 🦅
  6. Don’t we need a home run hire when we do hire (instead of this “we po’ but proud” attitude)? One alum mentioned to me the former HFC at Boise/ UWashington? Chris Peterson. Then his adding he was now of an age as one who wouldn’t want to keep freshing up his resume. If we do hire a new HFC, he needs to keep Phil Bennett around because he has the Texas HS ties & one more year on his contract.😲 (Some of us think he’s a pretty good Defense Coordinator who will prove that even in 2021). 🦅
  7. In 1973 we had only 16K+ enrollment & was truly a commuter school compared to 42K+ today with more of our students who live on & near UNT’s campus than SMU & TCU’s combined enrollments. This is why all these occasional too few bright moments of MG football are so damn frustrating. It’s really apples & oranges for those comparing the Fry years vs the present. 🦅
  8. Never equaled what we’ve had recently when football showed momentum & promise. I would kill to see what UNT could do now with at least 4 winning seasons in a row which we’ve not had since Fry. Best 20K seat Fouts crowd I saw was 2 weeks after we beat Tennessee. When 1’st year Fla. State’s Coach Bobby Bowden brought his Seminoles to Fouts Field the UNT ticket manager said ticket sales for that game indicated a sellout & then—a rare snow blizzard hit northern Texas. It took me almost 2 hours to drive from Irving to Denton, but most stayed home. 🦅
  9. But when we win again (ask Kansas State about a half century long losing streak which we helped them get out of); but when UNT wins again a much larger UNT constituency will come out of the wood work & find Apogee Stadium. I know, not many on GMG think we will ever win again—but we will. Every school gets back into an NCAA win cycle. * Obviously, we do need some staff tweaking for us to get back on track. Wren Baker is no fool. He’ll do the right thing. His own legacy depends on that. I trust him. 🦅
  10. FROM THE FAR SIDE... (& WELCOME FALL, NOT OUR FALL, BUT—HELLSBELLS! YOU KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT HERE)...but go ahead, give me the yellow “confused” look” emoticon anyway. How could anything get so ugly? Do we need to steal La Tech’s future recruiting lists? UA”freakin”B’s, too? Should we also take a 2 year sabbatical from football, shut it down, get NCAA approval to top load with transfers during those 2 years, *re-open football, go on a CUSA win streak, add 15,000 more seats to Apogee (to be larger than UAB’s new half city/county owned cookie-cutter erector set stadium) & then announce to the world——Hey! We’re now ready for the SEC or ACC? (Just watch UAB’s next move, folks). *CUSA should have told UAB to take a hike after they shut down football, but just look at CUSA’s weak leadership (starting at the top)? Anywhere but CUSA for our favorite school, please. (But JimBob, we’re not winning now. No, but SMU was on a 10 seasons under .500 streak & a Death Penalty when they got invited to CUSA. Forget already)?😎 ________________ Meanwhile, SMU will sell their souls to the underworld & do just about anything to get in Big 12–soft-core version. Stang’ville knows their program will eventually be un-sellable without that affiliation. (Am I not wrong about that, Gerald T)? 🦅
  11. So 2021 is going to be “the Year of the Injury To Key Skill Players” it’s looking like. Yeah, I know, everyone has injuries but for crissakes?🤢
  12. Some of us as students saw 4 winning seasons in a row up there in Mean Green Country. In fact, it was the last time that happened.🥺 NUMBERS MATTER: Today because of our huge (still growing) enrollment & overall UNT constituency (along with Denton & Denton County) that would IMHO translate to the kind of upsurge at the turnstiles that many on GMG would be in shock over. (Think what Apogee attendance looked like the night we made geldings out of the Mustangs & then the Joe Greene statue unveiling ceremony game vs LTU). 🦅
  13. Thanks! Methinks you are right, but wasn’t PCobbs from Oklahoma? ❇️🦅❇️
  14. Another Mean Greener & I kept up with recruiting when DC’s Texas Football was about it; that is, the only one who listed Texas HS blue chippers. Dickey had one class (1998?) when he & his coaches pulled in about 8 of Dave Campbell’s Texas Top 100. If he’d done that for 3 or 4 more years in a row he’d probably still be in Denton. 🦅
  15. George “Jub-Jub” Dunham goes crazy on the MGRN & at Texas Tech’s Jones Stadium. 1999 UNT highlights. 🦅
  16. And the AAC is a P6 conference, too, right?
  17. Some of us saw the last FBS ranked team to come to Denton & the last ranked Mean Green FBS team. That was in the mid 1970’s. We are not being coached now to reach those high, lofty goals. I don’t know what happened. We arguably have the best venues in the G5 with what’s in the Mean Green Village & across I/35E with the fabulous Super Pit. CUSA posters from their respective fan forums have commented on what North Texas has with our top shelf venues & our financial resources. Many of their comments themes are: With what UNT has (along with location) just what’s the hold-up in Denton? I guess that’s my answer. 🦅
  18. Lot of us suckers were there (until we left earlier than usual), but the Green Brigade were great.😊 🦅
  19. So hire Sonny Dykes?!? 😆 Seriously, if there’s is a coaching change we better hire a silver-throated Elmer Gantry type of salesman. ••• SMU would croak if we did that because they want our constituency to not be seen & for damn sure not be heard. That could get pretty loud. (Numbers matter). Elmer? We had one like that here before, but I fear there are too many “we are not worthy” types on this forum. Losing seems to create that & we’ve all (to the person) been conditioned to expect less. 🦅
  20. You still da’ man! We should all copy your example. Agree, Apogee Stadium is special in so many ways. I guess that’s why Cowboys super scout Gil Brandt said (in case y’all never heard this)🙄😊: “Apogee Stadium is a Taj Mahal of college football & trust me—I’ve seen them all.” 🦅 Still confused? You must have been one helluva’ slow learner. Tell us who you are, O Ye brave keyboard warrior.
  21. And your 5 friends you brought to the game said? 🙁 I can count 10 die-hards who did not attend last night’s game. This is not good. Many on GMG are looking at other way important things beyond wins, but winning is where it all begins. The last 2 seasons result have taken us out of most (not all) re-alignment discussion & that affects a very large northern Texas constituency; in fact, (sorry private universities) but a much larger constituency that y’all can only dream of having. 🦅
  22. The blue chip football recruit on campus who was supposed to announce yesterday? Hmmm...🤔
  23. As been said before, SL was not Wren’s hire. Yet Wren cried at a press conference when he thought we’d lost SL to the Big 12 KSU Wildcats. Remember how 99.9% of our fan base all but cried with him? I was one of them.😢 We’re programmed to expect every negative thing that happens to us up there. When we do have a positive, some on this board all but apologize for it or say “an asteroid will soon hit us after all this positive stuff settles down.” It’s almost enough to make you laugh (or cry). We are one helluva’ peculiar fan base.
