Nt Has 4 Fb Prospects On The Fw*telegram Top State 100
PlummMeanGreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
You're probably right about the 90K plus...and all the local lists, too. Actually, the state Top 100 lists have dramatically changed almost since that one year DD had a good class; there just seems to be fewer and fewer schools annually ranked from around #80 thru #119 (is that better than saying, uh, non-BCS?) on Texas state top 100 lists as there used to be. I think we all believe Todd Dodge will change some of that from our standpoint. -
Nt Has 4 Fb Prospects On The Fw*telegram Top State 100
PlummMeanGreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Bill, truth must be told with this subject, too, but DD actually did have "one" year several years ago where some of us counted as many as 6 Top 100 recruits from cumulative lists of state Top 100's which came from lists from the Houston Chronicle, the DMN and the FWST. Problem for DD was there was just "one" year for that kind of success. If he had just kept on recruiting at that level, he would probably still be at UNT and all would be peaches and creamy for most everyone. As all know, what you do on Game Day is determined with how you did during the recruiting wars the previous 3-4 years. If DD had continued with 6 (give or take) Top 100 recruits each recruiting season, we could have probably been competitive with those "FIVE" body bag games per season we are now reading (as of yesterday) that we had during his tenure at UNT. I guess we now have to wonder if all our non-SBC games were all considered as body bag games as far as DD was concerned. -
Dickey Sees Many Positives At Usu
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreenEngineer's topic in Mean Green Football
Anyone remember when a few of us were getting crucified for saying all the things about DD Ball that many of you are now saying? I do. But I'm glad there are no more secrets about what many figured out long before I did, quite frankly. A Short List: (1) There was never a short list of candidates when DD got our HFC's job; but wait a minute, my bad.........there really was a short list but there was only "1" on that list. Rick V at least listened to the masses and what some of our hopes and wishes were (even though he probably got tired of hearing the "crony hire" theory more than just a few times from many on this board). (2) Darrell L. Dickey better count his lucky stars that his dad is very well respected among many in NCAA D1-A. Said it before, but would a "Darrell L. Snodgrass" been hired by Craig Helwig? Would a Darrell L. Snodgrass with a 42W/62L career record in 9 freakin' years at our alma mater been immediately hired as the offenivie coordinator at Utah State when his offenses at UNT were never/ever even ranked in the Top 50? (You who are still DD lovers and supporters, get over it, most of us did with him and DD Ball a long time ago after listening to too many of his "non-stop" woe is me, UNT sucks and NT Exes suck worse radio comments that I guess didn't (amazingly) affect some of you at all. NOTE: Some of you even heard him call us futher muckers at a team meeting if memory serves me well from you who told me that via phone). YET it was the now infamous "pass the ball" game at TCU years ago was actually where my light really began to flicker with all this DD Ball business, the Tulsa loss at Fouts (our worse home loss ever at F'sF) was the straw that broke this eagle's wing. (3) Hellsbells, I forgot what #3 was going to be, but I forgot, I've been classified as crazy by a few of our self-proclaimed Dr. Phils (actually I figure some of whom just cannot fathom the cold stark truth--truth be told--especially ex UNT employees post Hayden Fry); so I guess being forgetful is part of being crazy, eh? (But as modest and with as much humility as I can say this: I've usually been right on with my assessments of UNT athletics and who it hires for about 3 1/2 decades and many of you fellow older NT fart alums have even told me that thru many of those years. Sorry I have to announce this, but none of this is really rocket science for most (including many of you on GMG.com who also know how the cow eats the cabbage when it concerns UNT athletics). Just wish some of those being nicely paid by the state of Texas could figure out what works and what doesn't work in Denton, Texas, America, and for all that doesnt' work--QUIT REPEATING IT! You'd think multi-years on the UNT payroll would be enough time to figure out some of what works and what doesn't, right? My sequel to "Humility & How I Attained It" will be out in just a few weeks. Back to actually being serious again: There still needs to be some house-cleaning within the UNT athletic department that the hiring of Todd Dodge will still not take the spots off some of those leopards that need to be replaced with true upper echelon NCAA D1-A personnel-types. -
Good post, SCREAMING EAGLE--66... It was a pleasure watching Beasley Reese develop into a very good football player at North Texas. I had almost forgotten that he came to Denton as a walk-on. Beasley has also the last 2 or so decades carved himself a very nice (and successful) career with major networks as a sports analyst and color commentator. He also came from great stock as his dad was a Texas High School administrator. There are really many positive things that can happen for a walk-on at UNT. Hope this aspect of our football program becomes a solid one under Coach Dodge (and I think most of us feel that it will).

They're coming to take me away "ha-ha" to the funny farm where life is fun. (Crazy but funny song from the 60's). OK...................I WILL CONFESS TO ALL...............I AM CRAZY AND FULLY ADMIT IT! BUT I AM HOPING THE TODD DODGE ERA HELPS ME (AND OTHERS OF MY FELLOW-CRAZIES--MOST FROM MY ERA) REGAIN OUR SANITY BEFORE WE ALL GO TO THAT FUNNY FARM IN THE SKY AND ALL OUR HOPES FOR A SCHOOL THAT HONEST-TO-GOODNESS LOST ITS WAY WITH NCAA FOOTBALL THAT WOULD HAVE ANY SEMBLANCE OF A HIGHER PROFILE CO-EXISTANCE ALMOST FROM THE VERY MINUTE HAYDEN FRY RESIGNED HIS JOB IN DENTON. Note: Many of us think Todd Dodge will change much for the better although there are some of us who think we stumbled into that hire truth be known but what the heck we'll still take it--I toast all who stumble into falling into the right decisions, especially when it concerns UNT. I think many of us think we need to stumble into even further hires, though. TO YOU WHO HAVE BEEN EMPLOYED AT UNT POST-FRY, YOU DON'T WON'T TO HEAR ANY OF THAT, BUT'S ITS THE GOSPEL TRUTH, '88, AND I THINK YOU, TOO, ARE AN EX UNT EMPLOYEE, RIGHT? SO THAT'S ALL FROM THE FUNNY FARM OUT HERE IN PARKER COUNTY--WHERE THE WEST REALLY BEGINS (with all apologies to Fort Worth). HAVE A NICE YET CRAZY SORTA' DAY! -

Oh my, Pandoras Box has now officially been opened, but you most likely have not traveled the same well traveled road many of us have since the 1970's, UNTSIG, and if you have, you may have very well been on a road less traveled. I know, pretty crazy idea there, too, but the book I hint about was pretty damn good read. Well, unlike (apparently yourself) I am no shrink as to determine what is crazy or sane when it comes to the subject of UNT or UNT athletics, but I will say we have had some pretty damn crazy hirings up there post-Hayden Fry (which was the era that I became a Mean Green fan). Need proofof those "crazy" hirings? Check out any media guide from any varsity sport of the last 25 years and you'll get all the proof you need. I know, just more craziness a-goin' on with that harsh fact that will even piss off a few reading it, but sometimes the truth really cuts straight thru to the bone marrow, now doesn't it? Ouch! (crazy response, I know). We Are A Product of Our Backgrounds? I am a disciple of Hayden Fry, I freely admit it and I've posted it non-stop much to the chagrin of those from UNT who have witnessed far less with their UNT experience. We've had many Fry wanna' be's in Denton but none that ever even came close. We each and every one hope new MG HFC Todd Dodge is our long awaited messiah (if you will) and that it Todd Dodge and his staff who breaks our multi-decade cycle of few high profile goals met and that he exceeds anything Hayden Fry ever did in Denton. Yet as most all know, that will only come if there are some impressive OOC wins, because doesn't that really seem to be the formula for mid-major coaches to get the Big Time U D1-A gigs, UNTSIG, or am I just being crazy with such a notion as that, too? Funny how one man's crazy can some times be another man's sane now isn't it? Is it crazy for me to even respond to your craze-themed post in the first place? Probably, but I'm bored at the moment and UNT many times has been many of our's comic relief in recent years. I am still trying to count (even with my terrifically bad math skills one of the Young Gun Alums says I have) how many past UNT HFC's are in the College Football Hall of Fame. Do you have a handle on that one, UNTSIG? FWIW, crazy as it seems.......I do. After all it was Fry's UNT success that gave him the golden opportunity to get an interview with Iowa and then get their HFC's gig in the first place; probably had something to do with the fact that some Fry-coached Mean Green football teams had some impressive OOC wins, ya' think, or is that just another crazy notion from an old fart NT alum? FWIW, there are definite reasons that this football program up until now (in many ways) is no further along (from a competitive standpoint) against those schools that many would call "somebody" schools (not SBC wussies) than since my (good golly miss molly I hate to say this)----my, uh, junior year at NTSU for crissakes'! Now it is totally crazy and insane for any college football program to have that long a drought, now isn't it, and for UNT to keep hiring those in the past who would see to it that that drought would only continue, right? UNTSIG, maybe you just might want to venture of few of your own theories as to why all this craziness has taken place at our alma mater for several decades which may have (in deed) driven a few crazy? We are who we are at UNT because of who we've hired post Hayden Fry era. I know, sheer unadulterated craziness with that statement, too, eh? PS: UNTSIG, I think the total number of posts I've posted on GMG.com suggests that I may very well just keep on posting about any damn thing I have an opinion on when it concerns a school that I, too, graduated from and one that I have personally sent 300 plus future UNT students to enroll at last count from my tech school recruiting days when my school was not their answer.........................I know, only a crazy old fool would do something like that. But have you thought of this crazy idea............... maybe it's you who ought to think about not even reading PMG posts, eh? Some who can't hande reality internet have already said they do that. Yet that could be a very sane-type thing for you to do if you can't handle all this unadulterated craziness you feel you are reading from my (and maybe even others) posts on GMG.com, eh? Funny thing is how many fellow alums have told thru the years that I seem to be mostly right on with what I have assessed about UNT athetics, but I am for damn sure not crazy enough to ever believe that! -
MG61's above posts is probably what we all need to do our best to do, but (still) one more thought on the subject. I've had this theory told to me and I thought it before the one who emailed me even said it but: Didn't DD and his staff mentally quit this program, this school and us (the fans) when they didn't get their Big 12 or Big 10 job the year they went 9 and 3?

And probably those who have followed this MG roller coaster ride of non-stop "1 big step forward/3 big ones back" for 30 plus years have a reason to be a bit touched? If we had all those back who quit following all this Mean Green business on a permanent basis, many of you would wonder why we would ever talk of having less than a 50,000 seat stadium at the Mean Green Village. Proceed with the procedure of the proceedings..............................(see what did I tell you about the touched part)? Actually, those who've been around all this much longer (and to quote Bill Blakely "have seen everthing at UNT except childbirth" may just have a bit more to post about than some of you newbies? PS: Also, if some took all this way too serious they might just go over the edge. Always best to try to keep MG athletics as "the toy department of all our department stores we call life;" that is truly what many of us try to do. For those who don't, they will only get disappointed (or at least that has been the experience of many with many of that group who became our permanent "non fans" that in the past kept at least 15,000 Fouts Field seats empty most Game Days). -
I bet we will before its all over with; we always do. Did we get any JUCO lineman?
-
Plus I think we've even had 1 or 2 walk-ons at UNT that became All SBC performers? I'd think any UNT walk-on would get more than a fair assessment with our new Mean Green coaching staff; seems they even did with the previous one. Out of what I think I once read were about 140,000 that played Texas HS football, we know the recruiting gurus are missing a few 2 or 3 star Lone Star Friday Night Heros; and who knows, maybe even a 5 star from a smaller (1A or 2A) Texas HS slips under their radars from time to time. We all but know there will be some 2 star rated seniors that will eventually develop into a 3, 4 or 5 star college football player before they graduate.
-
Back in the day, ex UNT Coach Jerry Moore was a big advocate of a well organized walk-on program such as the one he left at Nebraska. I have a good feeling that Coach Dodge will have a well organized walk-on program at UNT as well. IMO, one of the greatest things of being close to so many DFW area potential recruits is how many of them can actually come up (alone) or even with their parents on an "unofficial visit" status to visit our huge sprawling campus. We do have very much to sell at UNT with all our most recent newer venues such as our huge city block long Student Rec Center, new dorms springing up all over for the largest residential campus this side of UT-Austin and so much more. Of course, the Mean Green Village is the icing on the cake for all our present athletes as well as all the new ones on the way.

Actually, NTPhiKap99, it's one of the "7" deadly sins! Of course.....................not really..... As I said about 4 or 5 posts ago, I don't like censorship anymore than the next fella' and I know we can't keep all things of a PollyAnna'ish nature on GMG.com and we are going to lose some recruits (and gain our share, too). What my main concern especially now under this new regime is that a year or so back one or two of you posted about how many recruits and even their parents are reading this board this time of year (maybe moreso than any other part of the year). We should all be at our best behaviour (which is something I need to work on at times, too). Yet no one can really tell another what they can or cannot post. That would be quite absurd and presumptuous. Its just that we do have a new Mean Green HFC that many on this board (and beyond) actually talked about and wanted before he was hired at UNT (not always a UNT hiring practice of ours in the past most would agree). I think we all want Coach Dodge and his staff to have every possible recruiting advantage they can have in light of their late start with all they are recruiting. And your report on the 7 new committments for UNT is a most welcome one, too, NTPhiKap99. Please let us all know when others commit to our bright new era of Mean Green football as well. Thanks in advance. GMG! -

TTG, make that, uh, "6'th" generation Texan. Quite frankly, TTG, All Is Quiet On The Western Front (from my point of view). I never stay pissed for long and I never hang onto grudges (usually) anytime past the setting of the next evening's sun. YET..............TTG............you do have great potential to take over my rather lengthy epistle-writing skills (?) as you take almost as long as I do to make a point or 2! ! ! If I ran into you, the first drink would probably be on me (and then I'd pay for that drink, too); but then the next one would be on you! (just kiddin') A PET PEAVE: I just don't like thread subject titles that say something like "Looks Like We Lost Another Recruit To ????????"....in fact, I am trying to understand why those would be posted in the first place. Do some actually receive joy out of seeing their own school losing key recruits and then headlining that fact? Such threads as that can always be placed as a post in one of numerous recruiting threads, but that's just my .02 on that subject. Maybe its just another generation gap thing or something as those seem to keep happening more frequent for me these days. -

A RESPONSE: Don't make too much over a minor thing? Sorta' like the guy who said: Hey Joe, I hear you're not beating your wife as hard as you used to" sort of minor thing, TTG? So kick me in the groin and then say: Hey! I was just joking? Yet I do hope that what you posted made you feel better and got whatever it is off your chest, TTG, since this is not our first exchange. You and I seem to really come from completely different backgrounds and (for certain) eras as far as our UNT football experience is concerned. Funny how on this board what seems funny to some isn't to others; for instance, I didn't think all the gay-themed posts and innuendos from one of our posters toward one of the best UNT receivers in our history was never funny at all, either, although some on GMG.com seemed to egg it right along. BUT.............If you read all of my other post before you posted your response to it (with such amazing speed I must confess); ;anyway, you would have read that I take resposibility for my share of aimless chatter most of which I probably did out of total frustration of seeing Texas 4'th largest and projected to be 3'rd largest sooner than later; anyway, our university hardly acting like one of its size and scope as far as advancing its football program; and all that since (basically) my junior year, circa 1975, and the few years preceeding and following that football season which were memorable to many of us (at a higher profile). Those were the years that turned us into Mean Green fans. We thought the sky was the limit. For those who care to count, all the seasons since the one in 1975 is really a long time to ride a roller coaster and mostly stay disappointed with your alma mater's lack of progress in D1 football (with a 12 year detour in 1-AA which became yet another kick in the butt for all of us that had seen much better in the 1970's). But for 30 plus years I have (as many others from my group) only wanted our alma mater try to grow, improve and advance itself from what many of us witnessed and experienced that 1975 football season at NTSU. Quite frankly, we have not always hired to be able to allow such to happen, but I do (as many do) see the Todd Dodge hire as most acceptable by most in what became a real coach's search compared to the last time we hired a HFC); anyway, Todd Dodge is very, very good start for a new era at UNT that will hopefully end up in a BCS Championship Bowl game. Yet, all those post subject themes of mine you carefully picked out, TTG, rightly or wrongly were out of total frustration as an NT Ex who just thought our alma mater was just performing way below its potential with what also seemed to be way too many of our Exes/MG fans who seemed to be just laying down and accepting all that we were being given as an excuse for a NCAA D1-A football program. It's been one helluva' roller coaster ride with so many from my era who years later after seeing no progress simply gave it up, stopped expressing interest or even their own disappointments (becaue they had lost all intereest as to do any of that) and then their jumping off this roller coaster ride because of what seemed to be continuous non-direction for way too long; so therefore, the frustration of many of the above listed subject themes which I will remind were during another completely different era with a HFC that may have been the quickest hire in NCAA D1-A history; in spite of what the UL AD said about their hiring of Kragthorpe having that distinction. -

To Harry, Administrators & To Whom This May Concern: With national letter-of-intent signing day just a couple weeks away, could we remove such aimless chatter as this off this board until after signing day? I have posted more than my fair share of aimless chatter (lagniape) and will admit such, but this thread has ((IHMO) run its full course and has nowhere else to go but south nor in any upward direction that would impresse any Texas HS blue chip recruit and/or their parents reading all this that our hard-working UNT football coaches are out there trying to round up for all of our's dear ol' alma mater. Also, shouldn't we all be mindful of posting threads with subject lines that says how one school beat UNT out of another recruit? Why would we want to promote that or put that as the subject of a thread in the first place? I hate censorship as much as the next person and I know every subject (for certain) on GMG.com cannot be of a Polly'Anna'ish nature but with that in mind.................the next 2 weeks or so of recruiting are very crucial for the immediate future of Mean Green football and all of us (beginning with yours truly) need to be ever mindful of this. Just my .02 on this half year old thread subject that I'm not totally sure what its end all objective really was in the beginning. I stand to be corrected at any time. -

Future Denton Wretched-Kronicle Headline--Rather Lengthy Headline, Matter of Fact: Fouts Field Fan Attempts Harry-Cary Jumping Off Top of Press Box To What He Used To Remember Being A Parking Lot But Lands in Fruit Truck From Texas Valley Full of Grapefruit! (Other Than Smelling Pretty Fruity, Fouts Field Fan Is Now OK). Another Future Headline on Front of Sports Page: UNT Beats Big 12 School @ Fouts Field With Hail Mary Pass, But NT Alums In Other States Complain That All They Could Hear From the MGRN Radio Network Sounded Like 18 Wheelers On Truck Convoy! jjpfootball, if TxDOT were not going to get closer to Fouts Field with what you say is 53 feet of Fouts parking lot land, then UNT would (still) probably be trying to figure out a way of, uh, fixin' Fouts Field. TxDOT was the main (if not the #1 reason) the UNT think tank fellas' came up with the novel idea to move all football operations across the freeway in the first place. Remember when the plans were to use the old Services Bldg as the new AC of which blueprints had already been drawn up(which most of us received a copy of the rendering of that Services Building Turned Into Our New AC at that 1'st quarterly meeting)? So anyway you want to put it: TxDOT and their plans were the prime reason that the idea of fixin' Fouts Field was entirely shucked as well as using the Services Bldg as the new AC, too. Sorry all this seems to have made you a bit tense. : Hellsbells, I may even name my next goat dog Tee-DOT in their honor and for being the main reason (what other reason could there have possibly been)?; anyway, for all that being the main reason UNT leaders would formulate the plans to create the Mean Green Village at which time all the new stadium talk began. So with that in mind....................proceed, TxDOT, and..............we thank you for having the fore-sight in expanding that part of the interstate (which is needed even now and by using however many feet of that frontage road you all end up requiring--which I'll wager becomes more than 53 feet truth be known). -

And also the veranda (balcony) that is very nicely constructed on the south upper/middle part of the Athletic Center which over 1,000 rabid Mean Green fan$ will be able to mix and mingle. The veranda is already in place (and has already been used for mixers by the the MG Club & the Denton Chamber of Commerce). Yet it will soon be a nice spot to view a football game from the south end zone area of our new football stadium. We need a Big Donor or a consortium of Big Donors a la smu. UNT will have an NCAA D1-A football program; we need a bonafide D1-A stadium to truly have a D1-A football program; TxDOT says UNT must build a new football stadium (because they need Fout Field land for I35-E interstate expansion); therefore................UNT "WILL" build a new football stadium. It's elementary--ol' chap. -
New Stadium--- is it a Hoax...
PlummMeanGreen replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
Is there some new point we are supposed to be reading with a thread that is almost a half year old? I think we are closer to a new stadium now than we were back then; like, uh, a half year closer? Seriously, I believe the Denton County family that put the $1.5 million down for this new stadium project is just the beginning of more good news to come. But to be even more serious about Rick V's role in all this? We are only asking our AD to raise more money than is in the UNT System's entire endowment ($50 million?) so I think we should probably cut him some slack over much of this on that fact alone? UNT has to have a new football stadium since TxDOT told us they needed the land where our present stadium is located. UNT will build a new football stadium sooner than I think most are now assuming--just one helluva' gut feeling on that. And hellsbells, I've evevn put ol' stebo in the family will since he and I got into a mild verbal rhubarb over subjects that involved moronic themes. Anymore year old threads we need to be posting, folks? -
But of course, the $64,000 question is: What were those (stealth/under the radar?) season tickets sales totals which in the past such info was as easy to get as any poster on GMG.com giving out each of their checking or savings account balances. Yet.....................no matter what the previous totals were, it is still good news. Hope we soon leave our old friend Mr. 15,000 Per Home Game Average (even during bowl years) behind with 25-30,000 per home game averages taking its place. It's way past time for this football program to find many new friends and many new faces. Consistent, creative and clever marketing would help in that area. Another reason a HFC's change just simply had to be made @ UNT. That decision was really a marketing and advertising no-brainer for our alma mater's leaders and for those dwindling numbers (especially during last season's final 3 weeks) that thought other-wise almost till the end. So proceed, Coach Dodge, we will follow and build a statue in your honor if you stay positive, operate on the high road, get us in the Top 25 & make us the next BCS Championship Bowl Cinderella school a la Boise State)! Anyone else prefer that as a more worthy goal for UNT & Mean Green football over just playing the 4'th place CUSA team in the Big Easy? Won't that kind of goal and objective for MG football better help our campus fund-raisers find the Big Donor(s) compared to the latter?
-
We just have one helluva' propensity to think small at UNT--most my adult life as an NT Ex we seem to just always have. Maybe that's why the TTech and UH Systems continue to leap tall buildings at a single bounce while we at UNT, ie, a school that is projected to have 43,000 students sooner than later AND............ located in a metro area of approx. 6 million population within 1 hour of our main campus) are still talking about building a, uh, 30,000 seat stadium? Folks, that's the size of Troy U's football stadium and most of the Bottom 25 football schools in NCAA D1-A. Troy, Alabama population: Could it even be 25,000? They will probably be the dead-on choice to win the SBC this next Fall, too, because they know how to do very much with so little. At UNT during most of the past, we seem to do so little with so much. Yet some of you are right on target with your projections of a 40-50,000 seat stadium idea (at least 40K for starters) because (IMHO) that will give us a golden opportunity to leave the bottom one third of NCAA D1-A football playing schools behind forever if we can only leave our poor past hiring habits behind, too, that is, those habits that (bascially) have us where we are today (even as the 4'th largest university in Texas). 10,000 additional seats (with a 40K seat stadium) and playing a school even Central Florida had no problem scheduling (UT-Austin) and others similar, can really bring in on an annual basis how much more gate receipts? Let's say $20 tickets X's 10,000 when 10,000 Aggies come to Denton? Or 10,000 OSU Cowboy fans? Or 10,000 Baylor fans? Or 10,000 TCU fans? Or 10,000 UT fans? Or 10,000 Sooner fans (don't laugh, TCU hosted them not all that long ago). $20 tickets X's 10,000 fans at UNT's new football stadium? Scheduling one school such as the above aforementioned per year at the Mean Green Village's new football stadium that can bring 10,000 additional fans to a 40,000 seat stadium over a 10 year span of time is $2,000,000.00 (if my math is correct). What can we do with that kind of money? Maybe give our upwardly bound coaches who have been getting MG football in the Top 25 a la Boise State some pay raises (among many other possibilities)? A 40,000 seat stadium versus one that is 30,000 could very well help UNT think in terms of aiming its football ship well beyond CUSA, too. FWIW, we may have to hurdle over that league anyway due to continuing politics that probably won't change in any reader of GMG.com's life time (and that is even if you are a teenage poster, too). Can we really discount the idea of being TCU's Mountain West Conference travel partner with a 40K seat stadium over one the size of most of the rest of the Bottom Quadrant of NCAA D1-A which is...................30,000 seats and maybe a handful above that (such as SMU has now)? How many of you have said SMU has ham-strung themselves with that small of a stadium in a part of University Park that is impossible to get to on Game Day and once there--to find a parking place. UNT has many, many wealthy alums that UNT (quite frankly) has done a poor job of finding them first and then developing them (second) thru the decades. The late Robert Randall Onstead of Houston was one such NT Ex. (That NT Ex almost out-bid Drayton McClane for the Houston Astros MLB team and after a handful of us let UNT know back in the 80's that he was an NT Ex well...................long story short.......................they finally got Mr. Onstead involved, but a year or so before his death on a summer vacation 2 or 3 years ago. As far as UNT and the Robert Randall Onstead Story: He who hesitates loses? There's a guy over here in Fort Worth who has literally "concreted" half of our main campus, UNT Health Science Center @ Fort Worth and half the city of Fort Worth who is an NT basketball letterman who could be very valuable toward our building a new football stadium if UNT officials would get serious with him and truly inspire him to want to get involved. Don't let anyone tell any of you we don't have wealthy alums and friend$ of our alma mater, because that would just be yet another UNT urban tale.

Thanks Phil, (I think) ...........and yes, we can go from Jesus to Mohommed to Pelusi to "24" and now to "boils that need lancing" on GMG.com which means the Mean Green Nation is: ..............................................................DIVERSIFIED! ! ! ....................................................................... Chasin' Green Texas Jack Rabbits (or I guess I could post about disjointed N T helmet logos, right)? I like to hear other opinions (as long as they're just like mine)! (just kiddin', of course) Thank goodness everyone "finally" got on the DD Ball page. Can you imagine recruiting, fund-raising, stadium fund-raising and season ticket sales for the 2007 season had we stayed the course with DD's contract? Upchucking DD Ball Again: And I wonder had Dickey's last name been "Smith" if he would have gotten an offensive coordinators job anywhere? I don't think his offenses were that highly ranked at UNT, now were they? NOTE: To you newbies who don't know the answer to that question, the answer is "no" they were never highly ranked among all the other 119 NCAA D1-A football programs. FWIW, that man's non-stop negative radio comments pointed at the one who paid him some pretty nice pay checks and at NT Exes left a permanent bad taste in many of our alum's mouths which will never allow most to respect him. With DD, I guess the good ol' NCAA boy network in action once again would be many guesses with him. He doesn't seem to have to work as hard to get nice jobs as most other D1-A assistant coaches. Yet that G.O.B network would be fine at UNT as long as it was a productive network and that means 15,000 per home game averages need to pretty well very soon be history in Mean Green Country, now don't they? Todd Dodge's hiring will buy some of our career slackers some more time and will help others make it to another decade I suppose, but if they are not getting job offers at higher levels, then isn't it natural we question their production at our alma mater? Suppose we should have all gotten on the Texas state teat, eh? Although most who get paid by the state of Texas are admirably productive, there are some who will (forever) be allowed to take advantage of it. All that group seems to have to do is put out very little effort and kiss a whole bunch of arse. I have a very big feeling our new Prez Dr. "B" will be looking very close at all production on our main campus because I don't think she will be a party to mediocrity. I have to admit that I am (gladly) having to eat a whole bunch of crow with her hire because I was not excited about it initially. Honest to goodness, I thought we were getting a northern "do-gooder" tree-huggin' feminists movement sort of woman hire at first. I know others who felt the same. Yet southern fried crow can sometimes taste pretty darn good as long as positive things at UNT are allowed to happen inside the "picture window of our university." I would bet our UNT AD probably will have more freedoms to get even more creative now, too, as a result of her being at UNT. Seems RV may have been ham-strung by one of our own alums in the past (and that is all I will say about that). Only thing I want to see Rick V do is "loose" his infatuation for extending contracts; probably my only complaint with him the whole time he's been in Denton quite frankly. Guess there could always be worse things than that, though, eh? -

The only time Fouts Field better have grass is after the Texas Department of Transportation levels the stadium for their upcoming interstate expansion project, then TxDOT leaves a whole bunch of dirt where most of the stadium used to exist and then polk salad, stinging nettle and bermuda grass grows rampant. That's the only grass we ever need to see at what is the present site of Fouts Field. That stadium is still like a boil on our school's butt that needs to be lanced before it pre-explodes and gets all over FFR's television set! IMPLODE FOUTS FIELD SOON! ! ! -

............................................................N....................................T.......................................................... I'll add the helmet, later; but how about those 2 most unique letters, eh? I got those because of my close personal friendship with a couple of members who gave me access to Lee J's UNT System's Branding Committee Clip Art Book (which you can now get on sale at Voertmans--all proceeds going to UNT-Dallas). Sorry, all this cabin fever due to ice and snow is finally getting to me.

I love that article! Thanks for posting it, Deep Green! You know, we all need to (still) keep a perspective that UNT Coach Dodge and his staff are not recruiting many kids DD and his former staff had been AND.............that we did not hire Knute Rockne (yet) as our coach and while many of our recruiting opponents have been contacting many of these kids with the intensity of all that really beginning their junior years in all the various Texas high schools; yet our football coaching staff only began their efforts just a mere few weeks ago. I think Coach Dodge will get a good class this year, but next year.................WATCH OUT! THEY WILL HAVE HAD A YEAR TO COMMUNICATE WITH THOSE TEXAS HS RECRUITS WHO WILL BE FINISHING THEIR JUNIOR YEARS IN A FEW MONTHS! Isn't it simply great having a Dodge steering Mean Green football?
