We all remember how when Prime Time was a cornerback how he could almost cover his side of a football field. He was phenomenal, but I’m not sure UNT would be his kind of gig right now. If we end up looking for a football coach, I have liked Kevin Sumlin since his days at UH. 🦅❇️🦅

If we have a new coach he will be forewarned in talking about slumber & freaky looking human beings who out-grew their britches to the extent that they could not be fitted in any “Tall Men” section of a Macy’s, Foleys of Neimans. Get it?🤬🙃 ❇️

“Loosing” too frequently has caused us to become 2’nd Hand Rose. Our timing has rarely been good, except we finally 💡 “got it”💡with the NCAA venues arms race. That may be our ace in the hole if not this re-alignment go around but for certain the next one. If SMU doesn’t get in the Big 12 I want UNT to put a billboard inside their campus near Dallas Hall that says: “EAGLE UP! He who laughs last—laughs best!” 🐎🦅 ••• You do have to admire SMooo’s pro-active ways, though. Wish we would have done more of that thru the years. ❇️

You are clueless about what Hayden Fry did. He bailed us out of a very “small time-thinking” Missouri Valley Conference that lost (or was losing) its premier schools & was loading up with Midwest (former Normal schools) for starters. He pissed off the teachers college crowd in Denton which made me like him even more. Fry was really ahead of his time in Denton; if only he’d had close to the facilities like we have now. We honestly just have a hard time getting it right up there, but some of us still ain’t giving up. I see a Bill Snyder/ Kansas State type of turnaround in our future with (subsequent) Apogee attendance that will require it to be expanded. I am not alone with thinking that, either.

In the G5 no one seems to want to be where they are. Just wait until the transfer portal exodus really opens up—it ain’t going to be pretty. The present NCAA is being run like the present group who are running the USA. Anyone else enjoying all this planned chaos from both groups? 🦅

48 years of Mean Green can make a man say lots of crazy things.😆 (Some of it true, of course). 45(?) year old Hayden Fry had just gotten fired by SMU with a 7 & 4 record in 1972 when we hired him; albeit his W/L record on the Hilltop was way under .500. Charlie Strong is definitely a name—hell, he had been at UT. Where is Strong employed now? Kevin Sumlin? 🦅

Some of these schools are worse than some of the NCAA portal transfers who have no idea why they’re transferring. They just are & some will go straight to the wood & wonder why.

Get about 10 G5 programs to seek P5 Independent status; that is, to meet what would undoubtedly be an Indy P5 (NCAA sanctioned) criteria that would include a stadium size of about 42-45,000 seats, minimum number of men & women varsity sports, a required criteria of 20-22,000 per home game, etc., etc, etc) & from that group of new Indys you’d be able to get a full schedule of P5 conference schools & P5 Indys (if there were about 10 of that group). 🥺Yeah, all that would be a pipe dream now, but look how today’s NCAA rules committee has been shooting 60 footers in other things lately? NIL & portal transfers for starters? Totally agree. There are alums & fans on GMG who have followed MG football from 50 to 65+ years. It’s obviously time that group sees the law of averages go in UNT’s favor, too. I think many of us wanted Seth Littrell to be a raging success in Denton, but in his year 6 it doesn’t seem to be heading that direction. I wish SL’s consecutive 9 & 4 seasons would (in 2021) be in the 2’nd year of that W/L success. If that would have been the case, re-alignment talk about a “winning” Mean Green football plus—-it’s location in a 5 county Texas mega-population center larger than 36 states in the Union. All that along with UNT’s booming/burdgeoning constituencies of which some schools fans who seem to regularly visit GMG will turn a tad green & tell us how so unimportant all that is. Well, I say bullshit to that & that new fans don’t jump out of weirdly placed billboards or come from the Good Ship Lollipop. A winning UNT now would be the talk of 1 or 2 conferences whose leagues I believe we have a high interest, but for now it seems to be only......crickets. 🦗 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗 ••• 🌞Some close to the MG scene are hearing North Texas is still a favorite in some (un-named for now) quarters. Those conference powers know that without a doubt we can have a more than respectable budget & that we are still very active participants in the FBS venues arm race. App.State’s EZ facility didn’t look too bad in the Marshall game last week.

If we are hiring a new coach, we almost need a celebrity head football coach; a “WOW!” kind of hire our present players are aware of & potential portal transfers are aware, too. He needs to be in his 50’s (or early 60’s) & will not immediately start freshin’ up his resume for just a 2-3 year run in Denton. Someone like that kind of hire almost needs to fall out of the sky because I don’t know who’d that be right now. Maybe a Chris Petersen would fit that criteria, but he looked very comfortable in front of the TV cameras the other day as an analyst. Wren Baker may already have someone in mind. If we don’t better our conference affiliation, I honestly don’t care who we hire. It would be a moot point to be in CUSA where we old timers have seen multiple schools go beep! beep! right past us. Counting our Mo Valley affiliation, I’ve lost count of all the schools who better’d themselves over our (still) favorite school. We all bleed green—where else would we as fans go or change to? I think the air started coming out of SL’s balloon almost immediately after he turned down the former Big 12 (with UT & OU in it) KSU job. I think he went into a funk after that & may have waited to late to get out of it. I wonder if we were in his shoes how many of us would have acted or done different? I’ve liked Seth from the git-go & (like some of you) pulled for him. He may win 5 this season, but in year 6 the losses to UAB & La Tech I think will weigh heavily against him having a future here. If he were fired, I think he will still land on both feet with his future in coaching. 🦅

I’m sure late UNT President Norval Pohl & UNT AD Craig Helwig(?) thought helping Utah State out of their situation was the right thing to do. Pohl was a nice guy. Sorry he passed way too soon.
