  1. For the UNT game, look for the Stangs to run thru the tunnel of Ford Stadium & out onto the gridiron much like Santa Anna's Mexican army did when they stormed the Alamo on Day 13 but............aren't we all mostly glad Todd Dodge is the Mean Green HFC who many of us anticipate (for this game) will play the role of Sam Houston who along with his Texicans will show up quite impressively (and effectively) in this Battle at the Ford over in University Park, Texas. PS: But good golly Miss Molly, with this revelation and prediction from FOXSPORTS, surely SMU is not expecting us to just forfeit the game, right?[/i]
  2. Are these double-digit numbers of early commits for UNT unprecedented among most (or even all) non-BCS schools since HS juniors could start committing a year before they graduate? Wonder how one could find out the statistics on all this? GMG!
  3. It took me approx. 5 years on GoMeanGreen.com to hit 9,000, Tony; so with that pace I would probably be in a convalescent center finishing up on that 100,000'th post (and I'm not sure I should be held fully accountable as to what the hellsbells I would be posting by that time)! LOL! Hope that eye-surgery was a complete success, fellow alum. GMG! PS: Stadium talk, anyone?
  4. SEF: Each and every ticket for the Kids Korner promotion for the 20?? home football season opener had actually been purchased by a whole bunch of our fellow posters on GoMeanGreen.com (as well as non-posters & non-registered members for that matter). Not meaning to correct you, but I don't think scandal is really the word that describes what happened with that Kids Korner promo; in fact, it just boils down to where there were merely a whole bunch of un-used (yet purchased) tickets that many Denton/DFW area kids missed out on using for a Mean Green football home season opener. GMG!
  5. If that's the case, uh, Tony, should you even be flying; you know, as in the 20/20 "eye-sight" thing? GMG! PS: Thanks to the rest of you for your kind words of congratulations (which has now inspired me to hit 10K mark much quicker than I did 9K); .................... but hellsbells and...............FWIW................. I had wanted more gol' darned "stadium talk" on this thread than PMG talk, quite frankly. PS II: UNT23, I will have to agree to disagree with you this time around on your above thoughts because I feel once we do have our new stadium, Harry and his GMG.com staff will have to get ready for about 3,000 plus additional registered members of..............www.GoMeanGreen.com.
  6. I want to thank each and everyone of you who have inspired most of these posts, but my real secret to all this is in what I eat, you know, as in: POST TOASTIES! (And with half-a-package of prunes mixed in to insure that I don't stay too full of it).
  7. Was at Fort Worth's Hulen Mall's LIDS yesterday and they did not have this NT cap on the shelf, but I did notice they had other Texas D1-A schools made with the same gray and white design and look (and FWIW.............I thought they all looked pretty darn good). I've always thought of gray and/or silver as neutral colors that (IMHO) will look good with whatever our shade of green ends up being. I think we would all agree that gray & silver sure beats the hell out of that burn'r orange and navy blue that we've seen in some of our past MG gear, right? A fellow alum of ours who was at the Denton County NT Exes meeting the other night told me he's never seen so many different shades of green in his Mean Green life! Will we ever get whatever shade of green we now have as our official green on the same page (and MG gear) anytime soon; that is, before we switch to yet another shade of green?!?!?!
  8. eppy4life: You know, I realize our future new football stadium at the Mean Green Village (built at the right capacity) won't cure cancer for UNT & Mean Green football--but it just might come pretty darn close to it. GMG!
  9. ...if we build it (our new stadium--what else?) about the size of the majority of non-BCS schools who are most always annual Top 25 ranked football programs then: "WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD THIS WOULD BE!" PS: Most of the lyrics (albeit a tad fractured) taken from a favorite all time singer of mine (and I'd bet many of yours), ie, the late, great Sam Cooke with the title of the song capitalized above. Always have wished they'd do a movie about Sam although it would have had a tragic ending). NOTE: And.....I don't know why "much" came out as "mu" on the subject line, but...............oh well. Administrators: This post showed #9,000 when I first posted it, but now it and the one below eppy4life's post both show (at this moment) as #9,001?!?!?!?
  10. Yes, greenminer, I do agree.................and unfortunately for all of us, the Fouts Field legacy continues for UNT. Might a 35-40,000 seat &................. "parking lot-accessible" new stadium at the Mean Green Village have allowed UNT to book that SLC/Miami NW game? I think most would probably know the answer to that question. No one will probably ever be able to come up with a viable answer as to what having this football stadium (F'sF)on our campus (especially post-1970's era) has really cost us. We already know what it has done for the perception aspects of our entire school...............and I'll be hanged if the darn stadium was built in what would become one of the most visible areas of our entire campus. SOMETHING NEEDS TO HAPPEN SOON, FOLKS....... We've got to get rid of this Fouts albotross before it starts costing us even more; before it starts costing us other "serious" upper scale conference consideraions but moreso for the present...................... how the longer we stay in the venerable ol' stadium will (and I don't mean......may) cost us legitimate college football coaches in Denton with postive upsides who really seem to have sincere intentions to stay in Denton if a few (apparent) promises merely get fulfilled from UNT officials. AGAIN................We need some kind of "we're turning dirt for a new stadium" announcement soon. Who knows, maybe most of the "almost" 3,000 registered members of www.GoMeanGreen.com will get some kind of hint about such a new stadium at the MG Village from another brand new poster, ie, or a sibling of a Mean Green football player who doesn't even live in the state of Texas; you know, like just happened a few days ago with a post from a new poster with his pointing out to all what our new helmet will actually look like? Pleeezzzzzzzz.................nothing personal at all to this most welcome new poster from California whose brother is a new Mean Green football sign-ee (and who we are as NT Exes/MG fans very proud to have at UNT) but there are long time alums/fans on and off this board who probably deserve to get such information (trivial as it may seem) long before a total stranger to UNT and Mean Green football ever would. PS: Sorry, folks, but some things still haven't changed in Mean Green Country just because DD is gone and quite frankly, there are many of us who will celebrate the day when the ones who are still producing all this "exclusitivity" from our main campus (and from an "open records" Texas public university to boot)..................... hit the road, namely Interstate-35 North and with great haste cross that vaunted Red River. I still defer to our past decade standing among all in NCAA D1-A as well as past (recent) turnstile counts at Fouts Field as proof that UNT AD Rick V still needs to highly consider doing some further tweaking or house-cleaning. It still comes down to the cold harsh reality that Todd Dodge is not the one responsible for selling season tickets, promoting Game Week/Game Day and doing our fund-raising at UNT. This would be post #8,999.....
  11. I also really like the white helmet for some reason. Maybe I just got tired of solid green and what that symbolizes to me as far as our annual bottom quadrant co-existance in the 119 member NCAA D1-A most of the last 2 1/2 decades (including a little purgatory time in 1-AA). AND............haven't we all seen some video of our own Mean Joe Greene chasing after QB's with Joe proudly wearing a white helmet with NT on it)? When Coach Todd Dodge & Assistants get this football program in a bowl game as a Top 25 team we will all revere this white helmet like none other before it. And yes, there are some similarities to this Mean Green uni' compared to SLC's uni' except for one major thing: SLC does not have this on their, uh, helmi' : NORTH TEXAS (The Future 2'nd Largest University in the Lone Star State & in Texas.........That Means You Have One Helluva' Big School)! * 2 Posts Away From 9K...
  12. This with the Big East all comes much sooner than we really needed it to for our own alma mater's sake. It appears this Big East expansion will be quick and that CUSA may (just as quickly) need another member to take whichever CUSA team goes eastward; but the ominous dark cloud that still hangs over our school is that we still have Fouts Field setting out there to (still) show CUSA officials this time around (once again). Folks, how many more of these "this time arounds" are we going to keep having with Fouts Field still standing out there like a giant boil on the nose of whoever UNT's prettiest co-ed would be ? When in the wide world of sports are we ever going to start being in the right place at the right time with completed major athletic facilities in Denton, Texas, America? This is all beginning to seem like a cruel joke with the joke always continuosly and non-stop being on us, ie, the University of North Texas. (FWIW, we just can't keep showing CUSA officials blueprints of a projected new football stadium, ya' know)?
  13. If our Mean Green football program catapults to Top 25 status (which I think it eventually will if we don't blow it in Denton and give Todd Dodge viable reasons to want to leave); yet if and when we go Top 25, our football team can wear the kind of helmets and unis' some of us wore in pee-wee or Pop Warner football for all I care. Penn State has about as plain a helmet and uni' that there is, but look at their Joe Paterno-led football program of the last 30 or so years?
  14. I know, MGW, I'm probably going to hell for what I've posted about sweet Norah J, but for heaven's sake............ sexists and classless? I know, I'll need to be in church this Sunday.
  15. REVISED... Oxford, Missssissssssipppppppiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii?!?! Have they had 2 Miss Americas? And our 2 Miss Americas hardly represent any semblance of a microcosim of UNT's co-eds today. None of us are saying other schools don't have pretty co-eds, its just that UNT has more of them. Hellsbells! NT Ex Norah Jones probaby wouldn't win a beauty contest at UNT! The NT co-ed featured in this summer's Athlon's college football magazine is not too shabby looking, either. Our girl even shows up in the Big 12 edition of Athlon's, too (and all the other Athlon "specific" conference magazines, too, I'm sure). But you are right on the perception thing, SM. Sort of another reason some of us older nestors cannnot wait for a certain implosion ceremony that will take place off North Texas Boulevard and Interstate 35-E in the near future because (like you said, SouthernMustang................ perception is reality ). I think the the SBC bested the CUSA in football wins last year when our 2 leagues teams competed against each other (of which one included a bowl win), but FWIW.................... none of our schools won a college football national championship 70 years ago, either. Perception can really last a very long time. Perception is definitely something that takes awhile to change, but it can be done. Many of us believe a 40,000 seat stadium at our (already) magnificent Mean Green Village (someone want to provide a photo link?) will play a huge part in changing much of ours; especially to those hundreds of thousands who merely drive close-by our campus off those 2 Texas interstates on an annual basis. Our new football stadium will be located on prime interstate real estate, ie, right between I35-E and I35-W. The south endzone part of that new stadium (the A/C) is already complete; but talk about your prime location for a college football stadium?!?!? I believe it was Florida State that was even talking about dropping football on the eve of their mult-decades run of college football success. The perception of the Seminoles program is in pretty good shape I believe we'd all tend to agree?
  16. Most of you know that Phil Bennettt & Darrell Dickey are close friends, right? One of the most intruiging things (or better yet, cruel ironies) that may spring from this upcoming SMU/UNT game would be if the Mean Green were to defeat the Mustangs for the 2'nd time in a row (with still mostly DD recruits to boot) and with all that being cause for Phil Bennett's swan song at SMU because of it. This game will have more riding on it than the average DFW area sports fan will probably ever realize. I think many of the SMU coach's family's might even have an extra roll of Tums in their purses or pockets that evening, too. SouthernMustang, a question for you: If UNT were to win the game, do you see Phil Bennett finishing out the 2007 football season; better yet, would he even be the SMU head football coach the following week? What do you think the general concensus of SMU fandom would be if this were to occur?
  17. 4,000 words you say, GB? Hmmm? I think we all need to get a grip on the fact that (just as many of you have posted the last few months) and that is the SBC has caught up with us (with some passing us for the moment at least) and.....................we just all need to keep a healthy perspective on Todd Dodge's 1'st season as our Mean Green HFC. To put it another way: Don't set yourselves up for disappointment with all the exuberance we've all had of having a new Dodge in Denton.
  18. I guess its the generation gap(s) at work with all this (and one could hardly describe me as a prude, either), but something like "Wide Open" at a football stadium signage area would most always have me thinking "wide open" offense. Now if Norah Jones was on this billboard and......................(oh well, nevermind, just wishful thinking and................you will pardon me while I take another hypertenstion pill, right)? PS: Speaking of our fellow NT Ex, the lovely Ms. Jones: Anyone else see her on the Sunset Channel's Abbey Road concert series a couple or so weeks ago? Man O Man O Chavez, if I were just 20 gol'd darn years younger........................hellsbells, if that were the case, I'd still be too damn old for that PYT, ie, pretty young thing. And while we think of N.J. do picture this: Norah J. being ushered out to the Fouts Field's 50 yard line to an ebony Steinway grand piano as she is all dressed up in a black flowing in a light wind Victoria Secret neglige' with strategic "peek" areas on that neglige' while she sings our alma mater, ie, [b]Glory to the Green, in a way we've never quite heard it sung before? Oh, well, I hope most of you Young Gun Alum fellers have those thoughts lodged in your minds for the rest of the day and into the evening.
  19. Hopefully this conversation will never take place: "Daddy, it's my freshmen year at UNT and we set another enrollment record and now have 48,000 students at our main campus here in Denton, but I do have a question for you, pops....................Why did yall back in 2008 finish out our football stadium with only 35,000 seats when yall knew back then what forecasters (for Texas' public universities) told you all how large UNT, ie, your alma mater ( and "MY" school) would grow to today?"
  20. Pretty good assesment of the SMU situation...of course, we would like the score to be different.
  21. "Thanks, Mean Joe..............! ! !" (Mean Joe is gaining in this poll--as he should be). What if the 1968 University of North Texas Mean Green football team had not been "SWC refer'eed" out of a win versus Frank Broyles Razorbacks, I wonder what such a win as that would have done for the direction of our NT football program; especially in light of the fact that Arkansas would play the Texas Longhorns in the "Game of the Century" (and for the NCAA National Championship) the very next season? Vote for Mean Joe Greene anyway, because he still was probably one of the 4 greatest defensive lineman in not only college football history, but the National Football League as well.
  22. It would be interesting if there were photos of all NCAA I, II and III division schools football unis' whose colors are green & white just to see how close some of them might even resemble each other. Seems Marshall U of CUSA has had the kelly green look for a few years now. I (like I'd bet many of you) will welcome almost any new-look football unis' unless they make us look like a bunch of green bumble-bees or something -- I am pretty open to most any look we get. After all, it's Dodge Ball Time and we need new most distinguished looking football uniforms to bring in this new era.
  23. This game had a bit more sizzle when SMU was in the Southwest Conference and UNT was trying to get in the SWC; not that this neighborhood rivalry couldn't have a similar sizzle or interest in this era as well. Both schools should look at what monies they save for their respective athletic budgets by not having to fly or bus to an "out of area" game while incuring all the expenses you have when you have to spend monies on transportation and staying over-night at some hotel.
