I believe an Apogee Stadium end zone facility/Athletic Center will be so nice. I’d bet blueprints have already been drawn or will be soon. This project is already in Wren Baker’s creative mind after listening to a recent video. Below is an IPhone close-up pic I took of App. States end zone facility 2 weeks ago.

I see 1 of the 3 as a “one hit wonder.” I was shocked when a fellow alum said utsa only drew 20,000 & some change vs Nevada-Las Vegas the other night at their dome home.

For those concerned about us losing fans
PlummMeanGreen replied to WanderingEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I thought Ex SMU AD Russ “Mustang Mania” Potts was spot on with masses of free tickets give-aways. My dad & I even used 2 to go see UH vs SMU during the State Fair. Mike Ford was the SMU QB that day. Yet Pott’s famous quote was: “An empty seat cannot buy an SMU T-shirt, a coke, a hot dog, etc. The problem was that the generation who received all the free tickets did not stick (en mass) with the Mustangs. I’ll be surprised if Wren Baker doesn’t come up with some kids sports teams specials for 1 or 2 home games. If they re-scheduled Band Day few would complain. 🦅 -
If we’re talking a new head coach…

Oh hell, I’m too old to be getting fired. Wait a minute, I own my own business—how can I get fired?🤢 🦅 PS: I know, south side guy, I’m a typo fool. 🙄 -
I did & my source (& I) think we were close to an MWC offer, but even a couple of national bloggers said the same thing, too, right? Along with UNT, the national boys would add Rice (& the Houston market). My source said the same. I still believe all that was said. Quite frankly, the 4 who vowed to stay with the MWC (for now) screwed this all up. That could change tomorrow. (Stand by, UNT). We so want something good to happen at UNT since it has at other outposts who just seemed to have popped up out of nowhere. (Liberty U being at the top of that list). After awhile, one would think UNT would start copying success & then hiring those who created it; that is, those who turned start-ups & “non-traditional” NCAA powers into Top 25 (or close to it) level programs. Seems the budget is there for UNT to do so. I told a UNT higher up 10 or so years ago that we should hire the La Tech recruiting coordinator & then hire their best recruiting assistant coach. Hell! And back then—just hire Holtz!😊 Their recruiting lists produces winners while they were too many times kicking our butt recruiting in Texas. They out-recruited us back when they were in the WAC, too. What the hell gives? Some things just defy logic. Yet at UNT, we’ve trodded right along sometimes like the over-grown, “bumbling-stumbling” Baby Huey of old cartoons fame. That also defies logic, too. My source said to not elaborate so I didn’t so can we move on? I should have said nothing on this forum in the first place. Now I feel like I‘m going to be “Joe Manchin’ized” & eaten by my own! 😆 All this has turned out just about how I thought it would. After all, 48 years of North Texas you begin to detect a definite trend & Lady Luck has rarely been involved with any of it, but like some have also said: “You make your own luck.” A UNT alum & MG fan has to try to not stay negative. Those who continue posting on this forum I secretly admire. When they stop would be the problem. Our fans do seem to jump on & off bandwagons quicker than most compared to other schools, but maybe their fans just haven’t had the same road we’ve travelled, either— right? 🦅

A Crazy Idea for North Texas
PlummMeanGreen replied to MeanGreenGlory's topic in Mean Green Football
Liberty Flames football quality has not been affected by being Independent. They busted the gonads of this years probable CUSA football champion last night. UNT last had a multi-football seasons winning streak as an Independent with some wins that gave us national attention. Our last win over a ranked FBS team, too. In fact, the UPI poll had us ranked & granted, Fry was a voter in that poll, but we needed more than just his vote to get ranked I would think. The first few years of our Sun Belt success was highlighted by one bowl win but what a win—the Mean Green beat the (then) reining Conference-USA champion Cincinnati Bearcats. Other NO Bowl appearances by the MG did not open high profile job interviews for DD. In fact, I can only think of one. With 7 or 8 other present G5 schools agreeing to go Indy could give it a chance to succeed as far as the annual scheduling part, but I don’t see it happening any time soon. ❇️ -
Tweet from Marshall Sports Fan after MU lost to MTSU last night. (I thought they played App. St. just fine albeit in a loss) His Tweet: “I'm still on the train, and I will NEVER get off, but I don't see another game on the schedule that we can win if we keep playing like this. A 2-10 record seems surprisingly likely at this point.“ Well, we’ll see. 😎 🦅

Very encouraging comment by Air Force post AAC denial

Wonder if there’s a little buyers remorse from conferences who thought UAB was the cock of the walk; that is, UAB with their “a little over half-filled new stadium” debut last night? That coupled with the massacre they received at the hands of Malik Willis & the 🕺🏼“Independent”💃 LU Flames? Damn! MW was impressive. I thought I was watching UT’s Vince Young all over again. 🤢MG fans: Bring those rosaries en mass (even if your Protestant) to Apogee when we play a Liberty U who’ll probably be ranked in the Top 25 at Game Time. ••• Rumor has it UNT will have a guest celebrity for the LU game. 🦅 -
If the Flames aren’t in the Top 25 when they come to Apogee then dump the rankings system. Watching physical specimen QB Malik Willis tonight reminds me of the time I saw UT future wishbone star Steve Worster (Bridge City) in a bi-district game in Clear Lake, Texas (by NASA). Literally, a man among boys. ❇️

Yes...UNT beat the (then) 2002 CUSA champion UC Bearcats in the 2002 New Orleans Bowl. (see link) You begin to think at times we are forever lost in College football’s version of the Bermuda Triangle but then......In Wren We (I)Trust. Wren (& Coach McCasland) are fixing Mean Green basketball. Let him fix the direction of Mean Green football. As dark as things seem at times, I honestly believe there is some hope & I know some of you think that to. (Just spoke to one of you).😎 Does Darrell Dickey get the last laugh? _________________________ RIP, Dr. Norval Pohl. 🦅

And........gosh—is Texas, uh, B-A-C-K ? 🤷🏻♂️ TCU’s lost 2 in a row at home!

It seems Apogee has more brick & concrete than some of the newer stadiums. I’m sure Apogee’s expansion will continue with that trend. I really like Apogee Stadium. For many of us it was 💚love at first sight (that’s still raging today). ••• Some have been curious why the veranda (attached to the Athletic Center) seemed to play no part in being part of Apogee—at least for now. I guess the large video screen obviously cancelled that? __________________ A more recent (more hip) video review of fabulous Apogee Stadium _____________________ Apogee’s most recent turf renovation ___________________ A Mean Green Quickie! 😳 ____________________ From the Very Far Side: 👽 One non-Mean Greener’s Idea of an expanded Apogee Stadium. (Some of his ideas actually looks legit—but not the one for a 90,000 seat Apogee Stadium). ❇️

I don’t think this time, but next go around? Meanwhile, North Texas has some Important business to take care of with winning at the top of the list.
-
If we are hiring a new coach: Not sure who it would be, but a celebrity middle-ager hire would hasten our progress, slow down portal transfers & enhance those from other schools who might come our way. With our venues North Texas is hardly what I’d call a difficult sale. ••• App.State has a very nice end zone facility that would look nice at Apogee & at a (winning) UNT football program.

In the 1930’s(?) Amon Carter wanted to make Fort Worth “the fun city of this part of Texas” compared to his city’s chief rival of Dallas—who he truly hated (see below link); so Ol’ Amon Boy imported fun to Cowtown & as I recall reading had Casa Manana built, too. I always thought if Texas got tired of NY’s Broadway getting all the over the top praise, that Texas would somehow create its own version of Broadway. (Maybe Austin has that in mind)? It’s a shame we couldn’t import a Fry Street 2.0 over to the Apogee area & make it our own version of UT’s 6’th Street. Since the Lazarus of CUSA returned from the dead, UAB has dominated what seems like a weak conference that even our own Commissioner can’t seem to really get excited about. Look for our next “live” TV-like coverage to come from Indian smoke signals. Hey! We will have a corner of the smoke signals market! Yea, Judy! You are our messiah! •••Sarcasm is a way to use words to wack somebody over the head. Amon Carter link:https://fwtx.com/culture/play-about-fort-worth-icon-amon-carter-to-make-dallas-county/ ❇️🦅❇️ Still Mean Green Proud (but a few more wins would be nice).😉

There is no consolation in saying this as the deck chairs continue to be shuffled, but no where do I see that anyone has escaped being a G5 school in all this re-alignment drama. Any G5 conference with the right group of quality coaches can have a 3-4 year run of success unless there’s an exodus of portal transfers whose departures kicks said league’s schools in the butt. That can happen overnight since that’s how quickly it can all happen with no need to sit out a year with that kind of transfer. I still don’t like the trend & direction this present NCAA rules committee is taking college football. It ultimately seems destructive, but one merely has to consider the times we live. 🦇

I am implying nothing when it comes to North Texas. The school’s first attempt to build an Olympic pool in the PEB fell a foot shy. A Hurley “lieutenant” told me about that. Been around all this for almost half a century & others longer than me. Our group is running out of time to see any kind of new conference hopping. (I’m just as disappointed as the next guy who wants to see good things happen for our alma mater—that’s all)🙁
