SUMG told me Florida Gator fans are having a blast singing favorite son the late Tom Petty’s hit “I Won’t Back Down.” They’ve made it an every game tradition by singing it at the end of the 3’rd quarter. 🎶🎶🎶 UNT alums who made it big in the music world collectively have a large songbook of songs. Wonder which one song the UNT College of Music students might pick if we emulated the Gator Nation & sang it at the end of the 3’rd quarter? Or which one song UNT alums on GMG & Mean Green fans would pick? I pick UNT alum Bobby Fullers big hit covered by many other recording artists & that is “I Fought the Law (but the Law won).”

The first day the movie hit U.S. theatres I watched it at the Hulen AMC off south Hulen Street in Fort Worth. It was fun to watch & see all the campus facilities & as Bill Mercer described our old lady many times—“venerable” Fouts Field. May she Rest In Peace. ••• This pic I took of Bill Mercer & Craig Way (a UNT grad & longtime UT Longhorn radio network sportscaster). It was at a Homecoming game in 1985.

🤔 Some will wonder what Aresco & the AAC would think about a UNT/MWC presence in the DFW Metroplex. •••A rumor from a source not in this area says AAC wouldn’t like the Mountain West Conference to be in DFW (or Texas) at all. Seems the AAC was all but trying to put the MWC out of business 2 or 3 weeks ago, right? Re-alignment times is really a true contact sport.😆 Some out there are already touting the MWC as the better of the 2 leagues now & in the long term. 🦅

Like that gol’ darned Wing end zone?😡 I think the architect firm (HKS) sold that idea to UNT powers that be, but wish they would have said “thanks, but no thanks.” The good news is that it can still be corrected when Apogee expansion time arrives—not that they’d change it. . ❇️🦅❇️ Fact of the matter is that North Texas has not shied away from the NCAA FBS venues arms race whatsoever (& for that we should all celebrate). Special thanks to the Loveless & McNatt families of Denton. They advanced our athletic program progress in the direction a university our size should (& is) heading. I get pumped when I think Wren Baker’s re-do & expansion of the present Athletic Center very well could look something like what’s pictured below.

If we’re talking a new head coach…

😨Not even close to being an insult. More self-deprecating. -
Agree, it is a mess. Has UTSA even been offered an AAC spot for them to turn down? If so, I missed that sports news item (which wouldn’t be the first time for me). What is the CUSA exit fee, too? I thought at one time it was $15 million? 🦅

Anyone remember what happened the last time North Texas was on the SEC network? • This video is now at 1,000,000 views. ❇️🦅❇️

Amen, Deep Green! Hellsbells! Let’s bring back the leather helmets that had no face masks if we really want to get into all this vintage thing. Do our powers know how some of today’s kids even decide on a school by how sharp the football team’s uniforms look? It’s very much about cosmetics with many of them. Look at the college football fashion parade on review at FBS stadiums every Saturday?

UTSA now is ranked in the top 25 in the country now
PlummMeanGreen replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
They’re not in the Top 25?😱 Probably should be near it. I like the fact that the pollsters are not waiting for startups to prove themselves for the next 25 years before giving them a poll vote consideration. That’s good for all of us. 🦅 -

DRC: Prediction -- UNT's slide will continue at Missouri
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
You never know about games like this one. If a UNT QB finds himself & a very young receiving corp catches a few, well...🤔 https://youtu.be/U7PBjKzaQEw -
Who says fans don’t pay attention to college football unis’ because someone sure showed someone from Oregon U (the Ducks) one of our Mean Green unis’ & our—eagle—wings—helmet!😎 (I’ve never seen such uniform plagiarism as Oregon pulled off recently). https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/mizzou-football/mizzou-reveals-uniform-combination-for-homecoming-matchup-against-north-texas/amp/ 🦅

Link of that poll?

No. Wonder how many CUSA schools could not come up with exit fees if asked to join the AAC or MWC? You know the Commissioners of the aforementioned probably already know the answer to that. Exit fees may need to be reduced in some cases? 🦅

I might add that UH is not getting their overall money’s worth with Holgorsen. What P5’s have the Coogs beaten, Cougar King?
-
AAC-ready alright.🙄 Sign em’ up, Commissioner Aresca. I read where UTSA apparently does not have the money to put a roof on what’s supposed to be a covered practice facility. How they going to have an AAC budget? ☹️I almost feel sorry for them. I really do. Yet 5 & 0 and that small a crowd? Their team deserved more. I can only dream as to what a 5 & 0 UNT would draw at Apogee close to the mid-season point. 🦅

My ex UNT professor for basketball coaching 101 (an elective I took); an Ex Bill Blakely MG asst. & Lamar University AD/Basketball Coach Billy Tubbs was at the Beaumont school when they discussed & would later decide to try basketball only (as I recall). It didn’t work out. They would soon be trying to resurrect their football program. It’s Texas so that was understandable, but nice try Billy. 🦅

Phil, I rode to that bi-district game with my HS football coach & his wife (Harold & June Humber). Afterward we had a post-game dinner at a restaurant built over the water near shore. A good memory among so many. On March 9, 1969, after they spent a Sunday visiting the Houston Alief head football coach & on Highway 6 near Missouri City— Coach, June & their 9 yo daughter were all 3 killed in a head-on. Honestly, not sure all these years later that I ever got over that. I was a tri-captain on the last team that he’d coach. Still think of them often.
