And how about paraphrasing from the Speilberg movie Jaws with a bit of word variation..... We're Going To Need A Bigger Stadium. ...but I know we will all be glad with what we are getting now at our new stadium's Grand Opening, too.

Does The Coaches Deserve Another Year?
PlummMeanGreen replied to ArkansasEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
OK, perryfrog, we will take you at "your" word! I don't know why Coach Fran 1 took the directions he took--who knows (except maybe--The Shadow)? Yes, I have that article here with me at Weatherford Starbucks as I post. Go Frogs! GMG! -
Neinas Report Likely Out Thursday
PlummMeanGreen replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT's corporate naming rights for the new stadium is: $30 million (give or take). With its second to none location, AD Rick V and Troops will find a corporate sponsor; maybe not tomorrow or the next day--but stay tuned with that group. Texas Techs AT& T Stadium? The pitch of even their sideline seats I've never seen the likes of at a BCS school. It doesn't seem very steep at all which to me might create visual problems compared to a steeper pitch? Maybe its just a depth perception thing as it appears on TV or something. UNT is a generation away of getting anywhere close to what TTech has going which really started in the 1950's their old Border Conference and then 1956 admission into the Southwest Conference. (I don't think they became elgible for competition until 4 years later, circa 1960). GMG! -
...except for the fact that (most likely a ) UNT Big Time Coach Hiring coupled with A UNT Big Time Well Located Stadium ='s unparalleled success never seen in Denton during any era (Abner Haynes/Sun Bowl, Joe Greene's or Hayden Fry's included) and a success that some in CUSA will never be able to duplicate. Dont' judge UNT on the last 14 years because most all our fans will not accept those comparisons any longer. This new stadium will create that attitude change and from reading this board now--it already has. UTSA doesn't have NCAA Division One legacy or background which started for UNT in the Abner Haynes--Sun Bowl era, either. Have you seen our ever-expanding UNT Athletic Hall of Fame at the Mean Green Village? Quite impressive for recruits (and alums) to see. What does UTSA show their recruits--the Alamo and a brochure of what "could be?" Ding! Dong! The WAC Is Dead (as far as a FBS operating level is concerned). Karl Benson would not give UNT the time of day at one time quite a while back--now a little justice is being served I would say. GMG!

#1 On His Report: 5,000 more seats ASAP, North Texas. Heck, former Southland Conference Schools and even Prairie View(?) are building 30,000 seat stadiums these days. Does UNT want to remove itself from that large group of schools with 30,000 seat stadiums? Uh..................................duh? GMG! -
ee, you and I have agreed most always, but I'm with Green Dozer on this one. Darn It! Life Is Just Not Fair! I don't like the fact that TDodge (who I was one of many, many, many on this board who thought him with potential to do it at UNT), and the timing of his hiring has really given the guy (best I can count) only 2 Spring/Winter recruiting years (of which this includes the early signing period); but the "W's have yet to arrive. How many other 1'st year coaches make big splashes expecially in leagues like the SBC? AND.......TDodge could still pull this sucker out but time is drawing nigh where it likely might not happen BUT IF IT DOES...many of us will have that Sylvestor the Cat look on our faces but will still congratulate the coach and his staff for a miracle of very big proportion and job well done. We have a new era on our Mean Green horizon that will for the first time in my lifetime give us a chance to really compete with a (hopeful) Big Time Coach coupled with a Big Time Stadium--a first for all of us in fact. If we were to have another year at Fouts Field then maybe allow Coach Dodge even a 5 win season but that will not be the case. Since we of GMG.com don't have a very good record of HFC selecting at UNT, I will defer to our non-stop AD Rick V. IMHO, Rick V will be smart enough to consult with our interim UNT prez' who is very pro athletics and Chuck Neinas for what will turn into a short list of candidates. Meanwhile, we will all speculate on GMG.com and that is probably why so damn many of us are hooked on this forum because we want to know what others are saying or thinking--and from all eras, too--not just the Hayden Fry era. Like GrayEagle has posted "this time we go for the name coach" and I wholeheartedly concur with that since when I was a student at UNT that is what we actually did in December of 1972. And dammit--for the life of me, I can't get that era and what I witnessed firsthand out of my mind no matter how hard I try and no matter how some on this board have tried to downplay the success, revise its history and barometer-setting of that era; an era of which whose obvious success was recognized more outside Denton than inside Denton because look what we got when Fry left for the Big 10? In that era's place were the setting of lower goals and most times lower goals are much easier to reach; hence our stay in the Bottom 25 and Bottom 10 polls too many times the last 10 or so years. Does The Coaches Deserve Another Year?

Hello, perryfrog! I was in Fort Worth the day the SWC disintegrated and I knew how many of your elect thought it was the end of the world as you all had known it, but yall have proved everyone wrong and have become a role model for many of us in many ways. We will finally be able to get out of the starting blocks toward bigger and better things starting next Fall and I mean things we were "NEVER" going to be able to do as long as we were tenants of Fouts Field. Congrats on your season! Question: If we have to hire a new HFC, what would be your sincere sentiments toward UNT talking to Coach Fran? Just curious and I probably would know your answer already. -

"Long ago and far away in a frontier galaxy called Texas..." OK, pal, great to have seen you at venerable ol' Fouts Field for Rice game. Next beer on me (well, not really "on me" but you get the drift)... As I close in on 60, I know I am getting worse, redundant (all over again) and probably even more boring, but hey we all have our quirks who make us who we are, right? I like the Mean Green Nation folks, don't agree with many as they don't with me, but I like em' all still the same and don't get my undies in a wad if I get insulted from any of them from time to time. Those who withdraw from anyone, ie, a fellow alum who actually has different opinions from their own may want to seriously consider taking a short vacation from all this would be my advise. Yet, ee, I'll tell you one blood-curdling story about Commanche/Kiowas passed down from my family next time I see you in person, OK? GMG! PS: SINCE YOU MENTIONED IT, THOUGH..... that old movie with Paul Newman playing Buffalo Bill and his traveling western show comes to mind. SUMG would probably say he would like to see the scene (with a little revisionist history) whereas the Commanches' get hold of my great-great grandfather which makes me not be here and would make it where he wouldn't have to listen to my diatribes. Of course, all you on this board should realize it was SUMG who introduced me to GMG.com and even let me post my first post from his own computer when he lived in Denton umpteen years ago. (AND.....you all should not let him ever forget that, either)! GMG! -
Try the cumulative winning seasons (or above .500) for the last 14 years, uh......."3". Who knows, maybe we'll get a new stadium name out of all this. (Hayden, we should have told you done too much to get anything around here named after you--the Tennessee win clinched that from ever happening). GMG!

0 & 6 right this moment (due to multiple injuries) seems more probable. I hate this all is happening to the team, the coach and, yes, all of us. GMG! -

Does North Texas Change Its Shade Of Green & Tweak
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Had to post this photo again. This is just half of the east stadium in this photo, ie, the UNT student section for those who think we have an apathetic fan base and even more amazing--after 5 losing seasons. For you who didn't make the Rice game, the other half you don't see in this photo is also full of green-clad UNT students. And FWIW.........UNT probably had more on just its student side than SMU's "announced" attendance for their first 2 games. It would be a no-brainer to assume that UNT has the largest student support of any university in the DFW Metroplex and when this group moves into the new stadium all those who preceeded this group in graduation (UNT alums) will start to grow right along with our expanding support by our fabulous UNT students. Welcome as a poster to GoMeanGreen.com, Green Otaku. What took you so long to post? (Is your name Hawaian or Polynesian if that is your last name)? I tend to agree with you about the Sun Belt. My concern is when it someday possibly loses 2 or 3 schools and North Texas is not one of them then what the hell do we have then? How about over 10 years of what will have turned out to be a loyal suitor to a bad marriage? I think our only hope for CUSA is if SMU's entire campus disappears in one helluva' Texas-sized sink hole. God let me be there to see that! GMG!

I, too, like Mean Green on the helmets. Don't think it will happen, but I still like that idea. GMG! PS: I do know with the new stadium should come some of the nicest, newest looking UNT athletic brandings or gear that dear ol' alma mater can come up with between today and next Fall. It will be a new era in so many ways and UNT needs to capitalize on it while they can because in 2012, that new stadium will then be 2 years old. GMG! -
Houston Starting Quarterback Case Keenum Tears Acl
PlummMeanGreen replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Jeez, should we even suit out and play the game? I saw a rag-tag bunch from North Texas play and beat the #20 ranked San Diego State Aztecs at Fouts Field many years ago. Never say never... Anything is possible when your players come out of the tunnel like Sam Houston's army did when they raced along that swamp prairie near present day Houston and then they kicked Santa Anna's army's a$$ in about 15 minutes. By the way, the Battle of San Jacinto is one of the 10 Most Decisive Battles in World History. God Bless Texas! GMG! -

Charles (or anyone), if we have to get a new HFC, doesn't North Texas usually honor those we've got commitments from from the previous coaching staff? GMG! -
RabidRunner, thanks for visiting our board and you just hang in there. Many of us on this board have been exactly where you are now many moons ago and it ain't much fun when your all dressed to go out and paint the town red, but then no one invites you. GMG!

Does The Coaches Deserve Another Year?
PlummMeanGreen replied to ArkansasEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Is it just too retro to start comparing recent UNT football coaches with former UNT coaches that had total career wins/losses above .500; also, had many more winning seasons than losing seasons? Probably too retro since many on this board I presume were still in diapers last time we had a UNT coach that had more "W" seasons than "L" seasons. If TDodge doesn't get "seven"--he goes back to Texas HS heaven. -
Courtland, Mussolini would be much more animated. And he would show us how he did his "rope-a-dope"... GMG!

yes and no... GMG! PS: Look forward to the day that we have a very successful Top 50 program to compare to--maybe right around the corner? GMG!!

Are You Willing To Donate More If We Get A High Profile Coach?
PlummMeanGreen replied to Bundy's topic in Mean Green Football
Thoughts On Which To Ponder For All On This Forum (Especially This Thread): One guy out there wins the Publishing Clearing House $10 million prize and gives $1 million (1/10'th) to his alma mater. A widow lady with $500 in the bank gives $250 (50%) to the same school--also her alma mater. So..........who has given the most? Should the widow lady be looked down upon and not be allowed to voice her opinions on her alma mater's sports smack board because she didn't give near as much as the guy who bequeathed $1,000,000 (1/10'th of his winnings) upon his alma mater? Should she be considered as unimportant even though she actually sacrificially gave more while getting into her food, gas and utility bills monies to do so? Many of us in our lives have ridden high & many of us have had to adjust to low--I have been paying on medical bills the last several years which has strapped me financially. I want to rejoin the Mean Green Club next Fall and buy 2 season tickets if I can (although I can't come to most games due to my DJ business); but I am no less a UNT enthusiast and Mean Green fan and no one on this board or anywhere will tell me how much I need to give. At what point do some posters on this board start asking how much another has in their saving$ account? Seems to me a school like North Texas still has enough empty seats to where we need all who will come out and support it; that is, those like that guy who won the $10,000,000 sweepstakes and the Widow Lady who gave half of all she had. If that is not the feeling of most on this board, then maybe a few need to look in the mirror, count their many blessing$, hope they can hang onto their health and those many blessing$ and maybe also wonder if they would have given as much as the Widow Lady had they been in her shoes. GMG! -
No to R.C. and more research on Franchione. His present situation may be to our advantage. He has enough money from severance pay on recent jobs to where he might want to pay UNT to coach here. If Coach Fran showed interest, we'd almost need UNT alum Dr. Phil to interrogate this guy to see whats really inside his mind that's made him lose his upwardly bound direction in his last 2 unsuccessful jobs. Fact is, UNT could be the perfect match for Dennis Franchione while others recent stops were not but with some of these coach's types out there......To Whom Do You Trust? FOR EXAMPLE: Ex UNT AD Steve Sloan swore up and down to a hiring committee at UNT that he would not do his traditional short stay or quick version of a Texas 2-step and then leave Denton. While in Denton, he did get his golf game sharpened but he still left Denton in what turned out to be another short tenured job for Sloan. Dennis was said to have wanted the UNT job badly when he was at TSU-SM before we of UNT worked our magic with that great Dennis Parker hire. Trust me, this new stadium is going to be a tremendous magnet toward drawing a higher breed of those applying for our HFC's job in Mean Green Country; that is, if we need to hire a coach after this season. GMG!
