UNT and SMU need to play a regional opponent with traveling fans to get anywhere close to 30,000 for a home game but... ...I believe when we move into our new stadium our fan base will increase dramatically and moreso with a year in and year out winning football program (led by a name coach) plus IMHO......... our fan base will be significantly larger than SMU's as it should be with our much larger constituency that have UNT ties. The buzz created by hiring said name coach is tantamount to having 11 impact football players on your offense. Remember what Jerry Jones said hiring Jimmy Johnson was comparable to--how many #1 draft choices? Probably not the best illustration, but if a movie star moved into your neighborhood, how long would it take for all your neighbors to know about it, talk about it, want to see it all firsthand, etc, etc, etc,? The right name coach coupled with the debut of our new stadium could be quite a sports story here in the Lone Star State and beyond. An unemployed name coach wanting back in the profession may not demand as much salary-wise initially as we'd think. (I think Fry would have coached for free at North Texas when we hired him). Yet if we got a name HFC at UNT I would hope his contract would have a $2 million buyout; that is, if he left UNT before Year 5 his new bosses would need to go to the bank. I thought $1,000,000 at one time but the schools who most likely would come a-callin' the $2 million would be nickels and dimes. (Should I draw up a projected new name UNT HFC's contract now)? LOL! The Dallas Cowboys pre-game radio show on The Fan even gave UNT credit for "15,000" at our game as they were tallying all the fans in attendance at all Metroplex sporting events last Saturday. GMG! PS: Sorry I couldn't have been one of that group, but I had was DJ'ing a wedding on Friday and a birthday party on Saturday night. Great for the DJ part of me but not so great for the Mean Green fan part.

So where did this ever originate? Seems like one of our posters was told this 30 day thing by a UNT staffer at one time or was that yet another beaurocratic white lie of which we are becoming quite accustomed with the present day political climate in Washington D.C.? GMG! PS: I mean, someone years ago told me that musician Steve Miller was a UNT alum and I fell for that one--hook, line & singer, too

Can't Really Feel Bad About That Game
PlummMeanGreen replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
And is another reason we should keep our eyes open for a better conference home if thats ever possible. I don't know how long it will take the 'Belt to get its league & NO's Bowl bound champion in the Top 25; with Top 25 ranking being a feat that even the MAC has done on a few occasions if my memory serves me correct. GMG! Question For Anyone: How many of our season ending injuries would be elgible for a med RS? -
North Texas Coach Todd Dodge Wouldn't Have His Son
PlummMeanGreen replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
We should all start looking forward, albeit we know discussing the past is much about what these collegiate smack board forums are about, too. But.....to quote another poster from another thread somewhere on this board, we should all raise our expectations and I see the new stadium as a huge influence in making that happen. GMG! -

I look forward to the day (although I probably won't be around to see it) that we start comparing the virtues of the next 2 UNT football coaches whose careers were around .750 Wins/Losses for each of their respective 10 year careers at North Texas and that this board's members argue which coach had the most Top 25 ranked football teams. Yes, I truly look forward to that day. -
Happy Birthday, fellow Parker County-ite! (and many more).

Stadium Costruction Video Shows Steepness Of Stands

Yes, yes, yes...finally..........accoustics inside our football stadium. The first few sounds of a unified Mean Green crowd noise may shake up a few people. GMG! -

Utah Canceled A 3 Game Series With Boise State
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Some of us remember Bill Snyder when he was one of Fry's assistants at UNT. He had come from Austin Colllege as their HFC before Fry hired him. I believe I heard an ESPN commentator say he was now 71 years old. GMG! -
Utah Canceled A 3 Game Series With Boise State
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Of course I do need to qualify just who here, Deep, and I would say Boise State, but I suppose Utah has holes in their schedule, too? I think TCU is filled up on theirs, but if they go Big East, they will work like crazy to get some regional OOC games, right? Oh! I forgot! Boise now has holes in their 2011, 2012 and 2013 schedule. While Licking Our Wounds: What Rock Concert Would U Like To See 1'st In New Stadium... Rock Band: The Eagles with UNT alum Don Henley (if hell hasn't frozen over or Henley and Frey aren't fighting with each other again with those terrifically high musician egos) Who I'd Like To Sing National Anthem At 1st Game in New Stadium? Uh.................Norah Jones (wearing a black Victoria Secret neglige' that would offend every woman in the stadium)! (Wait a minute--can I say that)? GMG!

Jack, I bought a copy of it years ago from Borders off West Freeway, Fort Worth. Was surprised to even see it in their Texana collection quite frankly. Didn't Harry have a promo of this book on the front page of GMG.com recently? Been years since I read it, but I think the book goes about as far as the beginnings of the Hurley era. Dr. Rogers who wrote this book died a few years ago, but a new revised edition should be added because of the many new and interesting chapters that have happened to our school. GMG! GMG!

When We Have To Expand New Stadium For Either...

I think when UNT hired Lee Jackson as chancellor the agenda for all the UNT-Dallas/UNT Law School extras had already been agreed upon & set in stone. The only alternative our main campus would have ever had would be a requirement for the Dallas law school students to take at least 1 semester of classes at our main campus, but I think State Senator Royce West would have headed that one off at the pass. UNT BOR's? I think we have a very pro-athletics BOR's hence that beautiful new stadium rising on that rolling Texas prairie which had to have their approval. Looking at our recent (30 plus years) football past in Denton while having HFC's that since 1980 have come nowhere close to a .500 W/L career; nevertheless, it took some major kajones for our BOR's to approve our new stadium and then send all that to Austin for Governor Perry to peruse. This new stadium can be like a freshly cleaned chalkboard for anyone ever connected with UNT; that is, a fresh beginning and a time to create newfound optimism--if that is needed by some. My longtime football program model (even before their big BCS OU bowl win) for UNT, ie, Boise State obviously came to a similar intellectual junction at one time of their program and instead of choosing a southerly direction--they chose an upwardly bound northerly direction that 12 years ago not even their most optimistic Bronco fans would believe the heights it would take them. Nothing wrong with UNT being a copy cat, folks. GMG!

When We Have To Expand New Stadium For Either...
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the universal rule of thumb for NCAA programs is to at least let their HFC get through 4 years. "IF" (a big if) Dodges teams would have won all those late 4'th quarter games last year, he would have the capital this season to probably come back next year (with the multiple injuries and all). He does not have that capital and unless he gets 6 or 7 or wins the SBC, will undoubtedly be replaced. UNT could have stopped all this 2 or 3 decades or so ago if they would have merely looked back in our football history and observed what kind of coaching hire gave us, ie, (even) North Texas a semblance of national respect including a Top 20 ranking. We did everything we could to avoid doing just that and won't most of us say we have sufferred the consequences longterm? Consequences? Most of the posters of www.GoMeanGreen.com have never witnessed in their lifetimes any North Texas head football coach who went over .500 in his lifetime career in Denton. You tell me what direction we should go in light of that? High School one more time? Upon further review, has there ever been any successful HS coach to make it an NCAA FBS school? Even Notre Dame tried it one time to no avail with Coach?????????? (his name escapes me). GMG! -
With All The Talk Of Firings...
PlummMeanGreen replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Finally the "is he a good recruiter" factor comes up. "IF" we need to hire a coach and then hire a "name coach" he will have to know the complete recruiting abilities backgrounds of all the resumes that will come in. Most "name coaches" will try to bring those in that were assistants for them before (if we can afford them after what we will probably end up paying said name coach). Coach Fry brought assistant coach Andy Everest from SMU but cannot recall any others besides Everest. GMG! -

PlummMeanGreen replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
If we need a new HFC and get one, I'm sure he would welcome all present assistants (who would want to) to apply for their old jobs. I could see 2 of them getting serious consideration--as in both coordinators? GMG! PS: Responding to another post: In your kid's lifetimes I don't think UNT will ever again go the HS route in hiring a new HFC. -
When We Have To Expand New Stadium For Either...
PlummMeanGreen replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Old School Thought: "Well, we don't need a new stadium till we fill Fouts Field 133 x's in a row. (Never-minding we might have all been sitting in concrete dust with steel wrapped around us as we waited for that to happen--No school has ever built with the past in mind, but what the demographics show for its future and..........most schools plan to regain the cycle of winning once they finish out their losing cycle). Concerning a projected new stadium back in the day, I sorta' think UNT borrowed the ideas of every other upward bound or upward bound wanna'be school when UNT AD Rick V told the BOR's perhaps something like this? "OK, guys, we need to crap or get off the pot if we're going to stay up with our fellow conference-mates of this "throw together" conference we sorta' had a NCAA D1 head start on and the one we used to dominate most likely because of that?" He who hesitates loses? I hope we have not waited too late even on this new stadium as we look at the present NCAA landscape of re-alignments with some more on the way. A TCU'er told me he thought the Big East was a done deal for the Horned Frogs, well guess what big hole that would create with yet another new re-alignment domino effect on the way? So......he who hesitates loses? GMG! -

This from TCU's student newspaper, ie, The Daily Skiff... Check out UNT AD Rick V at bottom of the Daily Skiff article, too, as he has some live quotes in the YouTube presentation. http://www.tcudailyskiff.com/video-renovated-stadium-will-attract-concerts-and-high-school-football-games-1.2335952 I like TCU's new look stadium and especially their lounge areas, too. TCU and their fans deserve it and God only knows we do. GMG
