And even worse is I've been having a little writer's block of late. Hey! I just love a good, sound and passionate debate--that's all and I really feel bad when I think I've stepped over the line with some of ya'--I really do. You know who you are. My late sainted mother used to tell me: "Jimmy, you could make the Pope cuss on Easter Sunday." But I was still her favorite of 3--she wrote for a newspaper on the Golden Gulf Coast of Texas and I miss her every day of whatever time I have left here on Planet Mean Green. (Sorry--didn't intend to get mushy here). GMG! -

Maybe--I'm not counting; but the record that does count is we've hired our last several HFC's not knowing if any would buck the trend as total unknown quantities with no prior HFC's (successful) experience at the NCAA FBS level. Why it has not happened or ever been successful at North Texas no one really knows; maybe we are just one helluva' snake bit outfit up there. With a new stadium which will soon debut, we better start killing some of those snakes in the grass. So speaking of records, its our past record of hiring that should concern all on this board--it's almost like some on this forum want to see this football program to continue in its failing ways. Many of us just don't get it--and I do mean.....many. Red is one of my favorite colors so I kind of like those red numbers. I will sleep well tonight whereas I know others will not; that is, those who are even trying to bribe their way into what they apparently think is "an easy touch" crowd at North Texas who will hire just about anyone. Did you ever see the movie Elmer Gantry with Burt Lancaster? Some of whats going on with all this reminds me of that movie With that in mind, I can honestly see why Canales would think he has a chance at our HFC job as he looks at our very unsuccessful hiring record in Denton. He probably sees it as easy as a turkey shoot and all he has to do is beat a few Bottom 25 schools from the SBC to get the job. This all is sad as day... GMG! -

It it gets to this point where he gets an interview (and don't forget that Dickey with 4 bowls at North Texas never recruited up enough to win after Bowl 4 to keep winning as to keep his job nor did he get one interview at the next level which doesn't put the Sun Belt Conference in good stead but with Canales this is still the barometer we will use to hire this guy if that were to remotely happen)? Anyhow........Canales will sit down in front of our hiring authorities and (from a source) need to explain why he got fired from Arizona after 1(?) season; maybe be asked "after years as a journeyman coach w/o ever being a head football coach why (suddenly) is North Texas the school?" (My answer is that he will look how we hired our last 6 and how our leaders were suckered in by hiring most of that 6--none of whom bettered themselves after their North Texas careers as far as moving up the NCAA totem pole) Then he will be asked the question that 2 major alumnus groups I've received word have genuine doubts on Canales and they would need an answer to this? "Can you recruit up to the next level since we have no record of your recruiting Texas High Schools which would show a trend of whether you can do it or not? PS: Come on, Canales Family Connection, give me some more red, baby!- 64 replies

Since my graduation year of 1976, I have noticed how so many UNT alums just seem to get attached to the wrong people--it's almost predictable at North Texas every time we need to have yet another coach's search. Since 1978 after Fry left for Iowa, many of us old gun alums have seen a passing parade of coaches of which 1 got to move to the next level. All the other projects disappeared in the NCAA or High School wood work. I saw DD even after his black unis' fiasco still have his loyalist who wanted him to get another 5 year contact (and hang what anyone else thought or how Bottom 25 mediocre we would continue with what apparently is the true NCAA FBS "conference nirvana" for some North Texas alums ie, the Sun Belt Conference. Nevermind what the rest of the country and sportswriters think of our always toward the bottom of the barrell football conference. That doesn't really matter with what our expectations are these days for UNT, now does it? Now the JJ basketball troops on this board love it because it might be a league we can dominate albeit we know the SBC BB champioin will rarely get past the first round of the Big Dance but that doesn't matter with our basketball crowd. Just throw them an occasional "First Round or Big Dance" bone and they are happy and content for another 5 or so years with that. Meanwhile, we will see other schools pass us by like we've seen so many times in our football past. Our football fans seem to be content with what they've also gotten the last 30 years, too. Look at the hardy handful of a couple of new Canales Stepford Fans now? I told an alum this is almost becoming a comedy of North Texas type (and our usual) proportions. They, too, seem to be caught up in a pentecostal type revival of "holy good gosh" emotion; but I fear once all that emotion subsides and they come down to earth there will be one helluva lot of Buyer's Remorse for this week's Flavor of the Month and scenarios similar we've had too many times at North Texas. For you who dare, just check out our last 6 UNT HFC's w/l records if you need more proof. Of course, at UNT we dare not use any of our illustrious football history of the last 30 years lest we may go off course and try something that might actually work? It seems bad history in hires just keeps repeating itself in Denton. Don't know who would want to come to North Texas knowing we have fans who would all but accept Lucifer himself as "their guy" if he gave them a free T-Shirt or little bitty football to their kids or tell them he can do it all at North Texas as Head Football Coach; albeit he's never done it yet in a multi-year journey as a journeyman's coach. Do we get suckered in yet again? You know like when Helwig was a one man coach's selection committee and got us an unknown commodity of a coach from SMU from his same alma mater who also had a very extensive journeyman resume' too? Some who no longer look at this board because of what they have to read from our under-achievers were so pissed at that hiring because they knew the goals would be set low with "success toward the Bottom 25" part of the NCAA D1-A (as it was known back then). We would be the biggest suckers in the NCAA to accept what will keep us mediocre for another 4 or 5 years and now many outside the hardy handful on GMG.com will now know why--it's no longer a secret that we can keep in wraps. Our fellow Texans from other collegiate outposts continue to laugh because they are most assured we will probably screw this thing up again as our SBC bretheran certainly hope that we do. So come on, have at it while I go to a Wedding--you cannot make the heat too hot in my kitchen and my non North Texas friends could tell you that for damn sure!

I just love your posts, Emmitt, they show your quick wit and very high intelligence quota, too. So come on, now, give us another hip-hop quirky little sports journalistic quickie for us to laugh at. You were only a gleam in your father's eye last time UNT had a football coach that was even close to having more career wins than losses; yet you and your most hip and cool crowd on this board seem to enjoy this neighborhood, ie, our annual culture of losing we've been in so long some have gotten comfortable with it, though. I actually feel sorry for your hardy little handful on this board, though; and am always very impressed with how yalls red numbers appear so quick on posts that those outside GMG.com would call progressive. But losing begats losing and some just seem to enjoy that more than the others would. And what do you think of that Women's BB coach hire 3 years ago, ie, one that came from a 32-58 program where she was assistant or are you going to lose your objectivity with that one, too. What is it about North Texas and assistants from losing programs? Tell us Emmitt, with that sharp, quick wit mind--we are all ears. Carry on...- 64 replies

Won't happen...UNM won't hire from a losing UNT coaching staff, either--nobody will. What part of that concept is so hard to understand is what I don't understand from those caught up in this most interesting frenzy? Hey, we got beat by a school last night who was beaten by a school (ULM) with half our football budget one who almost gave up football a few years ago. Are we going to base our football future on the eve of a new football stadium debut on these kinds of scenarios? Don't think so... Rick V will always be an icon for many of us because this new stadium will have been built under his watch. Many of us would just like our very pro-active AD to have a successful football HFC's hire at UNT. When that happens--it becomes a win-win for him and the entire UNT community and isn't that what we all want to happen? But we cannot gamble this hire away, either, based on the emotions of the moment, or free T-Shirts or game balls for just about everyone in the locker room post WKU win or free little footballs for kids at the pre-game walk or wins in the least respected conference in the NCAA FBS or anything frivilous. Our school's football future cannot or should not be based on things as any of the aforementioned. Is it now time for re-alignment talk? And on that subject: Who we hire at North Texas could even have some bearings on that, too. If we hire a project, would CUSA of the MWC even think twice about the Mean Green? Their first thoughts on such a hire: Has North Texas lost their freakin' mind or what with that new stadium and all?" GMG!

With your post #27 you are probably yet another Canales Vote Castor and Pusher of His Cause (and I'm sure you'll say your posting with a different moniker; but I seem to have a history of support of this school and its football program and if not for my weekend DJ business would be at most or all home games. Told a Mean Geeen buddy I might as well be a 7'th Day Adventist minister since they work every Saturday. BUT......... I don't support our most of the time failed bids at hiring project hires since 1981. Does this kind of opinion make me the bad guy here? We have this longtime legacy of non-success with hiring head football coaches at North Texas and Canales might be a great hire if we had had a 6 seasons in a row of a winning program but that is not the case. Canales may just be at the right place but just at the wrong time of its football history for him to even think he has a real chance and.......... all this Barnum and Baily self-promtion is making himself seem silly and making people beyond GMG.com laugh. A TCU friend was poking fun at us laughing hysterically over all this with Canales. I told him to kiss my Mean Green a$$, but he's been a longtime friend enough to where I could tell him that, too. The judgement on this forum is what disappoints me the most because it tells many of us that they don't desire much more than SBC success which can be found annually toward the Bottom 25 in most polls--their own record would be they would have supported our last 6 hires, too; hell, I was drinking the Denton water and supported Dodge and seemed to have forgotten that we had had a successful Texas HS coach before with Dennis Parker and that also went very, very south. (Our astute coach's selection committee back then chose Parker over Dennis Francione who wanted our job very much so now you know what we have been up against as alums and MG fans at North Texas for most of 30 plus years now).

Tell your Cuzzin' Mike nothing personal, but we can't take a gamble on yet a 7'th in a row unknown project hire at North Texas. Been there--done that so many times you'd think we would have learned a lesson or 2 from it--seems we haven't, though. I guess we are slow of wit and mind at UNT and maybe this a reason Coach C may think we'd be not of sharp mind enough to do what we've been doing again and again and again expecting different or better results--BTW, some on this board have in the past call that modus operendi the very definition of insanity. Sun Belters would love to recruit against a school that would be the first in NCAA history to hire an unknown HFC commodity from a losing staff from a program that has had 6 losing seasons in a row. You don't think fellow Texas schools we say we want to start recruiting against wouldn't have food for fotter on this kind of hire, too? La Tech is foaming at the mouth for us to screw up another hire and we recruit against them regularly in our own backyard. The Bulldog recruiters would say, "nevermind their new stadium, but look at the kind of coaches North Texas always hires and you want to be part of that legacy?" The UNT Board of Regents will have a very strong say in what coach they want UNT to usher in this new stadium with. They also know our past hiring history (like since 1981 for heaven's sake) just about as good as anyone and since most of them are successful business people--they know what can make a business thrive or what will close a business, too. They have to impart that attitude to state employees of which many times "quotas" are not part of their vocabulary and never have been. I know its hard with some of these post without anyone taking offense personally. I have never met Mike Canales so I can be more objective than those on GMG.com who have cannot seem to be; but this most important hire at the University of North Texas is much bigger than any one man or any alum or fan.- 64 replies

It just must be in the Denton water. FWIW, even the DRC Sports Editor has only seen and been a part of what we've been doing the last 6 hires at North Texas so he really has nothing else to compare to, either. You can't blame him. But........Canales has gone to new low's I've ever seen at UNT to do all this freeby give away crap to promote himself. Does he think those who will decide are stupid? Does he think the masses will buy into all this, too? Sure, a handful on GMG.com will because they even bought into the hiring of a womens BB Coach who was an assistant from an NCAA program that was 32-58 when North Texas hired her. That, too, has not been a successful hire but wouldn't that be predictable at 99% other NCAA outposts? I think all will see that these kind of hiring cycles will soon be broken by those who have the power to insure that it does. Yet........the ones who will not buy into all this self-serving hype from Canales are the ones Rick V needs to contribute to this program and to actually buy tickets to watch the 7'th project no name hire in a row (which will not happen). We are becoming a laughing stock in the Metroplex for even entertaining such an idea for you who dare to even listen. Be assured that cooler heads will prevail once this Barnum and Baily circus act is seen for what it is and look at the UNT Board of Regents as most strategic in leading the way to help North Texas breaking this 3 decade cycle of very bad hires, but meanwhile, enjoy the circus and all its clowns. Our Mean Green football team deserve a clean slate, a brand new start with a new direction and God knows their fans do too.- 64 replies

Read All This & Then Weep For Yourselves: Yes, It's Too Long But Read This One Anyway I think crack smoking is already evidently in epidemic form as it is having a particular assistant coach from a program now descending to the depths of bribery (for crissakes') to get a job at North Texas our hiring consortium will not allow to happen unless they want to see the North Texas version of a Tea Party Movement. If you can find 10 who want to do this kind of hire once again at UNT--I can find 1,000 who do not and would be plain spoken about it, too; you know, real Tea Party'esque kind of plain spoken? I mean come on now......free T-Shirts, little football handouts at the pre-game walk all sponsored and paid for by Canales? What's next? Free Mean Green prayer trinkets or prayer cloths to show that Jesus Himself wants all this to happen at North Texas, too? Well, looking at our past 6 "project" hires at UNT, we'd need a Jesus type of miracle of biblical proportions to have made another such hire work (which it wouldn't) and to also: (1) Keep 5 major donors at North Texas (longtime friends) who have told me in the last 72 hours that they will disassociate their contributions and association with Mean Green football (new stadium to boot) if UNT powers get on this "Canales self-created" emotional yet almost comedic bandwagon and then make the University of North Texas the first school in NCAA FBS history to hire "any" football coach assistant from a losing program--no matter the circumstances. Each of the 5 major donors were to the man serious as a heart attack about their feelings on this, too. (2) Luc'ee, Would You Please Esplain' This Hire? Have UNT powers attempt to explain the last assistant coach hire from a program that was 32-58 to be in charge of another Mean Green major program; and a hire that has yet to pan out with any semblance of success while turning down a former UTA women's basketball coach who actually took a program that plays on a freakin' stage to the NCAA tourney. We just really do like our assistant coaches from losing programs now don't we? Is North Texas the new Ellis Island of the NCAA? Give us your poor, your needy, etc, etc....and we'll hire em' at North Texas no matter what & give them a sweet state of Texas retirement, too! (3) Explain to the entire UNT community, not just GMG.com which is really a very small microcosm of our entire alumnus and MG fan base why even the consideration of hiring yet another assistant coach from a losing program (maybe 3 wins this season--4 max?) is making the University of North Texas the laughing stock among other colleges alums many of us have to deal with in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on a daily basis. Can these who would even consider such a folly and negative perception creator get out of the Denton City Limits just long enough to go out and about to here the laughs and shaking of heads and our constant hiring theme of what one TCU alum I've know for years told me this: "North Texas is its own worst enemy--they just don't understand the concept of the kind of hiring for a football program that gets you from Point A to Point B now do they, Jim?" I asked him what Point B would be for us? He said to beat schools other than those in the Sun Belt Conference and to try to hire a proven commodity that will help yall make the next re-alignment jump upwards--which could be sooner than most expect. . I still defer to the signature below and for those who can come down off the emotional cloud of losing to a school last night who got beat by a school with half the budget as UNT, ie, ULM; use what the Good Lord gave you to have the ability to do some true cognitive and sensible thinking about all this--in light of our past failed experiments with project assistant coaches
-
Most assistant coaching staffs when a new HFC comes along will be replaced. If J. Leavitt got our job and hired Canales as Asst. HFC combo Off. Coord. he would most definitely get a nice pay raise and not have to go house shopping in some other collegiate outpost. I hope he gets that choice. None of us non-supporters for Canales to he our new HFC don't think he is not a good coach. I think UNT powers knew what they wanted to do with our next hire before they fired Dodge. They didn't retain consultant Neinas on a nice retainer to come in and suggest we hire someone already in Denton, now did they? Since we haven't been in the Top 25 (or 20) or come closing to smelling it since the 1970's, we don't fit the criteria you suggest.
-
Would that qualify as a half truth or a full little bitty white lie? I think recruiting expert of GMG.com,ie, Old Timer said we had a helluva' bunch of recruits at the UNT/Rice home season opener and I remember seeing a bunch of them myself since they usually all sit in the same area. Hell, I've said he seems a fine guy and might (we have to say might since we are North Texas) make a future good HFC, but only after he's been on a winning UNT coaches staff which Jim Leavitt (if hired) would probably allow him that opportunity. Now whether he want's to be #2 man only he can answer when that time may possibly come, but those of us who don't support his being HFC ain't throwing the guy out as an "no good" coach because he doesn't show promise or something ; even on a losing football program's coaches staff and "THAT" is his main bug-a-boo for getting the UNT job now. Hell, in another thread I vote for Leavitt with Canales as Assistant Head Football Coach/Off.Coord. and that is Leavitt hiring him from what is presently a losing football staff, too; but like everything we posters post on GMG.com--it is still mere speculation since we are not the ones to pull the trigger. The Key with our next HFC hire is the UNT Board of Regents-------promise. Those of you with very few posts on this board we kinda' know who is putting your group up to these half truth posts. UNT's Legacy of Losing With Project Coaches: 1981 Bob Tyler 1 2 9 0 .182 0 0 0 .000 0 0-0 (from state of MS) 1982-90 Corky Nelson 9 48 52 1 .480 24 20 1 .556 1 0-3 1991-93 Dennis Parker 3 11 21 1 .348 7 14 0 .333 0 0-0 1994-97 Matt Simon 4 18 26 1 .411 10 5 1 .688 1 0-1 1998-2006 Darrell Dickey 9 42 64 0 .396 31 20 0 .608 4 1-3 2007-2010 Todd Dodge 3 5 31 0 .139 2 20 0 .091 0 0-0 And where would another "project" hire fit with the aforementioned group? Probably blend and fit in quite well. No, we need another direction and the majority on and off this board will be more than pissed if we don't get it looking at our 6 last hires since 1981. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to read and understand the above w/l records of our last 6 coaches at North Texas; of course, we don't have many rocket scientist on our campus, either, and that has been proven time and time again. Anyone wonder why the UNT Board of Regents want a change of modus operendi in this next hire due to the hiring habits at North Texas with the above stats of our last 6 project hires as proof that it has not been working? Bob Tyler had some special problems that even our selection committee kept to themselves until the truth surfaced. (One of which was that he had to be physically removed by state police from his coaches office at Miss. State when they fired him--once again, UNT didn't do proper research with that particular bad hire and that one bit us all in the ass, too). Give it up...

Then we just go back to what we've been doing the last 30 years which all the other Sun Belt schools probably hope? Do we let all the SBC schools pass us by just like Tulsa, Louisville, Memphis, Souther Miss, East Carolina and similar schools some of which said we were their model back in the 70's? Let's take the big gamble that a "big name" works just one more time in Denton. What do we have to lose and what would be the alternative (than doing the same thing over and over again--I defer to Our Legacy of Losing below)? I have been shocked at what I have heard most recently what some of these guys who want to be active in the NCAA HFC's fraternity again will work for and $400,000 to $600,000 would do it easily for most of them. Coach Fran would take that in a NY minute and was ready to do such if one of the western schools (Nevada?) would have hired him. Best News Yet? Very strong rumor has it that our BOR's have an open mind toward dramatically shelling out the cash to get us up to the next level of a HFC's hire. At last...they know we have to do something different for a change with this next hire. GMG!
-
Fry I believe hired a couple from Rod Rust 1972 "1" win staff one of which was NT ex and football letterman Bill Brashier and I cannot remember the other one. So it has been done, although most assistant coach hires are usually replaced bu an entire staff by the new HFC. Canales will have no chance for this job because the few on this board pushing him don't know of an army of alums/fans (not on GMG.com) who want to go another direction--the name coach or one with at least NCAA FBS experience with some success. Jim Leavitt fits the latter. I understand our UNT Board of Regents also want that name coach or experienced FBS HFC direction, too, and that comes from one who I know to be reliable. Too many UNT leaders would collectively catch living hell if they hired anyone from this present coaching staff to be HFC. I think Canales is snake bit because of his connection to a losing staff but under another coach would have new life if he really wants to stay in Denton. Of course, Jim Leavitt would have to be hired and Jim Leavitt would have to want to retain Coach "C", too. Our culture at North Texas (as Silver Eagle calls it) is weird (at best) and we need a combination of Vince Lombardy, Conan O'Bryant (to maintain humor with crying alums hard to please) and Sigmond Freud for all our Mean Green fans group sessions. Don't forget Tony Robbins for the motivation part, too, and a HFC who can inspire the increase of season ticket sells next Fall, be one helluva' Texas HS recruiter since when UTSA and TSU (SM) go up to NCAA FBS of which there will then be 12 total FBS level schools in the Lone Star State. Can we find such a coach who will give us the edge in all these areas? Probably not all of them, but maybe most of them? GMG! PS: Forgot one! He also has to help our Prez', Rick V and all our chief campus fundraisers find a Corporate Sponsor who think we are a true up and coming program enough to do what my signature statement says below:
-
Stick with a night stick; probably more your forte' than you and all the rest of your fellow Red Numbers Force of this board trying to understand the ongoing concept of what has not worked for UNT football with past HFC hires since the day Denton, Texas, America, was graced with your birth and North Texas had its own cool hand version of Bryant Gumble. GMG!

Attendance tonight suggested we did not have our man in the stadium to take across the interstate to our next stadium. Sure, some on this board have got the religion with a fine coach, but there are too far many on this board and beyond who would (this time around) never understand UNT hiring any coach from a staff that may win 3 games this Fall in an obvious down cycle for the entire Sun Belt Conference and it wouldn't matter if our coach was one of the 12 Disciples. The phrase "a losing staff" doesn't seem to be ringing too many bells among those on this board who still insist we keep doing it the same way all over again in Denton. You want a coach from a losing staff? Then go to the UNT Board of Regents and see what they think of you and a hardy handful's idea with a team that still only has 2 wins. Then you tell the UNT Board of Regents how you and a few think UNT should be the first NCAA FBS school (or maybe any level) in history to ever do such a thing with such a hire.
-
Great effort tonight from Coach Canales and the Mean Green. I was at a wedding rehearsal for one that I DJ tomorrow evening in Hurst. Sunday weddings seem to be a growing trend. Still, lets keep a perspective on our conference which most of the national poll'sters still don't respect and won't till we start beating some Top 25 schools and winning against a decent school in a bowl game. I don't think Troy is even in the Sagarin Top 80 schools since he ranks all 120 FBS schools. Watching the UH Coogs and UCF last night on ESPNU it is still overall team speed that separates most of us in the SBC from the other leagues. UNT must start focusing more in our future recruiting on team speed at most every position. And big linemen with quick feet of which most schools at our present level have to recruit projects to put weight on in the weight room and in the cafeteria but at the HS level when we recruit them they need to at least start with that necessary basic requirement, ie, the quickness of feet factor; maybe even one or two DL's who could chase down a good RB for a few yards out of the backfield before said RB got into 4'th gear. OK, the thread title? A la Boise State (still a good model for North Texas of which even Norm Hitzges has recently touted on KTCK)...but Boise always has an assistant-in-waiting their last 5 HFC changes the last 12 or so years. Others on this forum are already posting this as a possible role for Coach C as an Assistant Head Football Coach/Offensive Coord. under Jim Leavitt and be primed to take over at whatever time Leavitt would move on. The key for this to happen at North Texas of which we don't meet the present criteria; that is, to have a year in and year out winning football program for our hiring authorities to want to go to our 2'nd in command, ie, Assistant Head Football Coach to take over. This why Boise's top assistant have gotten their promotions each time the Broncos lost a HFC to a larger program. Ironically, with a little sweet justice included, it is Boise that seems to be the larger program than some of the ones their former HFC's took as so called "promotions." GMG!

What Should The Fans Expect From Canales

No, I like Jim Leavitt, too, because he did build something from nothing. And like FFR said, "even Fry didn't to that." Had Fry had a single wide trailer for his first office and Bronco Field (DHS) to start out with at UNT, I would have liked his chances, though. Leavitt raised a program that now sets pretty well in the Big East and many of us are jealous as hell of South Florida because we've been chipping away all these decades doing the same things over and over again expecting better results. Some have called that modus operendi the definition of insanity. As a crusty old fart Texan who will turn 60 this month and one who doesn't mince words anymore because of it, I call the aforemenitoned M.O. being just plain ol' dumb a$$ stupid. (Dennis Parker over Dennis Francione for heavens sake)? I put dollar mark$ in the "A" word because that is what all that has cost us thru the decades, too. I know Rick V will fix all this, though, because my gut tells me so. (We can't fault RV for Todd Dodge since many of us waved the fan of support for his hire and if you've ever made a mistake in your life, you'd know how some of us feel now but--we don't won't to screw up this next hire, folks. It would be catastrophic in light of this new stadium that needs 30,000 fans every time we tee it up instead of what we're getting now with Dodge, Canales or all their fellow "project" predecessors when they were at the helm. Jim Leavitt would be great. Again, folks, the name coach we hire will have some semblance of a "so called" blemish. Fry's was his overall record at SMU, but somebody at North Texas also knew what he had been up against on that campus and still hired an experienced NCAA D1 coach with statewide name ID and for doing that is the reason Prez' Jitter Nolen will always have a place in many of us old gun alum's hearts. BTW, when have I ever posted the names of Akers and Slocum ever on this board? Surely you jest on those 2 who have been out of coaching for well over 10 years now.........right? -

Just Responding... But he would fit the "blemish factor" of the kind of name coach we would only be able to hire in Denton. These guys (like Fry) have talent that many times can be better served at another NCAA outpost. (Being out of coaching 2 or 3 years is one of those kind of blemishes and 2 coaches on Harry's poll meet that criteria). Junk to one school (SMU) was treasure to others (UNT & Iowa). Fry with his state-wide name ID came out swinging even in his first recruiting class he signed in February of 1973--in Fry's and those recruits Year 3 they would play a big role in beating Tennessee, Houston and others in that memborable 1975 Mean Green football season. Yet Fry signed his first class with a little over 2 months after being hired in December of 1972. For whatever reason, he turned into an impact hire for North Texas. A known former NCAA FBS HFC might be able to salvage this upcoming recruiting class if an impact hire. Honestly, I don't care who we hire just so he's been thru the baptism of fire as a multi-year NCAA FBS HFC somewhere and even has a few skins on the wall that showed he had some semblance of success; preferably a HFC with Texas ties for the recruiting part but that can be over-come with the assistants he would hire. -

Come on guys, this is a UNT student asking our help...take the survey as it takes about 1 minute. PS: AndersonUNT, I do agree with other posters about displaying UNT gear, but that probably is a national corporate office issue most likely. -

Sorry, I corrected my "typo." Amazing how one letter can sure make a difference, eh? "firing" was corrected to "hiring"....
