C-USA claiming they are better off?
PlummMeanGreen replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks Arkstfan! I think AAC Commissioner Aresco thought the MWC was going to invade his Texas territory & that forced his hand. -
C-USA claiming they are better off?

UNT is our school & itβs bigger than any individual or group. Attendance says much about a schoolβs supporters & always has. Iβll be there. Hope others will be, too. No one says you have to stay all 4 quarters. Hope we have reason to. I mean come on, folks, ULM beat Liberty last weekend. π»SMU2006, you still upset with me?π π¦

GrayEagle also says: βYes, this year is a dumpster fire but that doesn't mean that we stay at that level. We have some good players and if we can keep them healthy and with a successful new coach, we could turn this around in no time. Stay positive.β β’β’β’ The 1974 Mean Green win over the 19βth ranked SDSU Aztecs at Fouts Field was one for the history books. πHope to see you at Apogee for the Liberty game, Jack. βοΈπ¦ βοΈ

I preferred the MWC as to give us more exclusivity, but this is probably better in the long run even if this group of 14 loses 2 members who will probably spend a long time chasing rainbows. π¦

From my non-vantage point there is apparently so much happening behind the scenes that we grunts will not be privvy to. Some schools who are interested in a new conference may ask for privacy with all that is happening in the discussions.

After reading a couple MWC forums last few weeks some of its members have mentioned visiting a UNT forum, so it must be this one. Some guy from Wyoming Cowboys Country (apparently) came over here & copied some UNT photos, posted them & then touted UNT for MWC membership. Other posters put UNT as their #1 choice if they expand. They tout our venues & location toward the top of their list. One said we have great looking girls on our campus. So......this thread is more for GMG visitors who are from the MWC & (who knows) maybe even from the AAC. π€ We honestly have no idea how any of this plays out, but it is so gratifying to see how our school leadership did not sit on their hands the last 10 years to avoid participating in the NCAA FBS venues arm race. GMG!

He would for certain open up the state of Louisiana recruiting.

Please stop blaming Wren Baker

All points well taken, Side.Show.Joe. Great to know we have such passionate fans on GMG. -
Heβd be a good choice, but wouldnβt GH be a β3 & outβ kind of coach like SL would have been had he accepted the Kansas State jobβyou know, 3 years & bye, bye Denton? Wouldnβt an older P5-experienced HFC who would put all the moving around & upward mobility job thing in his past probably hang around longer in Denton to build a program? ____________________________ Just in from WBAP 820AMβ Thelma Lou (Betty Lynn) of Andy Griffith Show fame passed away over the weekend at the age of 95. She played Barney Fifeβs girlfriend, of course.

I know Iβm sounding like a robotic talking parrot, but as Victorygreen04 already said this is not about whatβs happening now in UNT football. Rather itβs about the whole program, our budget, our venues & our upside for more growth (which few in the G5 can match UNTβs). If this was only about just football, then SMU (π) would have never had an inaugural season in CUSA back in 2005; you see thatβs because the Mustangs previous 10 seasons before 2005 were all .500 & less in wins/losses.

Why wouldnβt they? They earned it.

ADDENDUM: Much has changed since this thread was posted & for the betterment of North Texas Athletics most agree, but (as Wren Baker said) this re-alignment business will still continue. ______________________ Exciting times in Mean Green Country in spite of this football season. Some have said the MWC is already a better conference than the AAC top to bottom. πΊ There are more TVβs in the homes of UNT-affiliated DFW citizens than any other university in DFW & Texas bar none. β’β’β’The DFW Metroplex will pass Philadelphia in the next media census count due to so many out-of-staters who have moved to the Lone Star State. (Joe Rogan being one of them).π https://mediatracks.com/resources/nielsen-dma-rankings-2021/ βοΈπ¦ βοΈ

From this point on every loss is on WB
PlummMeanGreen replied to p_phelps's topic in Mean Green Football
UNTβs outstanding football venues may salvage this Decemberβs recruiting class, but that remains to be seen. Once again, a wholehearted thanks from the MG Nation to the Loveless & McNatt families of Denton for making the Indoor Practice Facility a superb addition to the Mean Green Village. Anyway, those upcoming December recruits should know we have an AD whose an upwardly mobile type of guy whose first head football coachβs hire at UNT will ultimately be as successful as his first head basketball coach hire. Coach Macβs team who beat a Purdue team in March Madness last March. (BTW, I saw a college basketball magazine the other day that had the Purdue Boilermakers ranked #2 nationally in their pre-season Top 25). They were ranked #20 when the Mean Green upset them last March. ππ -
How Does UNT Become A Place To Stay?
PlummMeanGreen replied to Hookset's topic in Mean Green Football
Thus a reason to hire a coach in his 50βs (or early 60βs) whose had some over .500 in career wins success at a P5 school who is not going to want to load up Allied Van Lines & move after only 3 years in Denton (as SL almost did). Fryβs 6 years served us well. Post-1975 season, Rice Uβs AD Dickey Moegle offered Fry the Owlβs coachβs job right after his 3βrd season at UNT, but Hayden turned down the SWC school to stay in Denton. I thought that a remarkable thing from Fry, but few others really seemed to in Denton. He had pissed off the nesters & boys downtown for being, uh, well, for being forward & progressive thinking Hayden Fry. Of course after reading GMG, how many of you were even around in 1975? Iβm getting too old for this. -
But we can buyout this coach. Remember RVβs 17 contributors & then add another 2 or 3 with the big buck$ to that group. Itβs just a matter of UNT powers that be finally accepting our present predicament & then pulling the trigger to buy him out. Apparently, waiting until December 1 (per the contract terms) would save UNT some major money, but waiting probably forfeits this yearβs recruiting cycle (if thatβs not been done already).

π Oh come on GrandGreen, you know some of us have been done with all this for 50 years (+\-) & here we all are still standing.
