  1. Yes, a short thread I'm sure since there is not much to say what hasn't already been said, but now that the stakes are even higher with TSU-SM wanting his services (which is debatable they could hire him) but we cannot get more egg on our face at North Texas if they did and if we had a chance first to sign him. GMG!
  2. I have capsuls of Nazi style cyanide to dispense! Man has this search taken on a new twist if (in fact) we haven't already signed Coach Fran, that is. GMG
  3. And perception? It's whats kept a very large majority of DFW NT Exes from ever having been involved with Mean Green Athletics. Anyone work in DFW? Then just sit down and talk to some of that group sometimes and one will quickly see what I mean. JayDub, agree except the part of the New WAC because..........just who is going to be the new WAC? If SBC Commish' Wright Waters would have a come to Jesus conference with all SBC Football HFC's to get out there and recruit kids who will help 1 or 2 or 3 of our schools to be annual (alternating) fixtures in any Top 25 poll, my problem with the 'Belt would no longer be a problem. And that kind of 'Belt LaTech would join if they haven't burnt' their bridges with all that lagniape that spews venom from their board almost daily but still.........it will not be smack board posters who determine that but powers from high above in those ivory covered towers of academia who will have that honor. GMG!
  4. And the last 6 we hired didn't want to be here and win? Come on, drex, North Texas needs as much glitter as we can get in what will soon be 12 state of Texas AQ and FBS schools after TSU-SM and UTSA are added. And having known you for well over a quarter of a century and your philosophy of athletic marketing, I know you know the importance of the sizzle, too. Yet.....this whole damn thing from UNT's perspective has all the earmarks of a bad B movie if we hire the wrong one once again. As one told me today, "Coach Fran would be the biggest hire in North Texas history--even over Hayden Fry" and guess what..........I agreed with him 110%! (As you know, Fry never had the skins Coach Fran has if we lucked out and got him). GMG! PS: Hope you and the Mrs. had a great Thanksgiving, Jim..........PMG GMG!
  5. Wouldn't be for the money because he and Mrs. Fran probably put back their millions from past jobs with a few investments on the side to boot. But why would he go back to San Marcos? This would not be top of his list but if North Texas gave him the could shoulder not only once (when he wanted our mob before), but twice he might want to see how much bigger he could build a program at San Marcos (of which we are not light years ahead) to kick our a$$ in DFW recruiting and just to show North Texas how they screwed up yet another hire. This potential scenario would make me sick to my stomach and make this alum all but give up with our leadership at North Texas having any ability to ever do whats right (and progressive) for our school with its most important varsity program. I would not be alone, either. It would be easy to predict that some heads would eventually roll (not Rawlins, either, he's too new) because of a groundswell of some very pissed of NT Exes and Mean Green fans if we allowed Coach Fran to slip through our fingers (once again) and go to San Marcos. If that nightmarish' thing did happen I would love to hear the spin coming from Denton and if that too would be so far-fetched, then I'd throw the vaunted Pinochio Curse curse at em' and every time they bullshi&&ed North Texas alums and MG fans.............their freakin' noses would start grow'in! Yep! That would do it alright. Seriously.........I think I would know of some extremely distrought Mean Green supporters of which some have told me this scenario would make them equally sick and wonder........"whats next for good ol SBU, ie Snake Bit U?" GMG! PS: In light of recent revelations, might UNT open up this search all over again? BEST CASE SCENERIO:[/b] That there is already a contract with Coach Fran's name on it and only the Monday or Tuesday announcement to come.

IF..............TSU-SM Hired Coach Fran: This would not be top of his list but if North Texas gave him the cold shoulder not only once (when he wanted our job before we crowned Dennis Parker), but twice he might want to see how much bigger he could build a program at San Marcos (of which we are not light years ahead) to kick our a$$ in DFW recruiting and just to show North Texas how they screwed up not hiring him again. No, not top of his list but I'd bet up there in the top portion of why he would take that job. Put yourselves in his shoes. This potential scenario would make me very sick to my stomach and make this alum all but give up with our leadership at North Texas having any ability to ever do whats right (and progressive) for our school with this most important varsity program. It would be like Rawlins telling North Texas he would prefer the UTA job, instead. 7. If TSU-SM gets Coach Fran they will win the "best perception of a school who knows what the hell they're doing in hiring a new HFC award" among our fellow statesmen no matter who we hire IMO. And as many on this forum have posted non-stop: Perception is reality. Those in the Western USA who didn't hire Fran may not have liked his salary requests or........they may have wanted someone who had a better backround of recruiting the state of California which I don't think Fran had. (Take Californians off the Boise roster and you have a Sun Belt-type of program; that is, unranked with no Top 25 ranked team in sight, either). I love the Neinas style in all this but its making nervous wrecks of those of us on this board who have seen UNT screw up too many past hires.

  9. Good post, MeanGreenGlory! (What year did you graduate from UNT? Just always curious with our newer posters--my grad year was 1976). Whoever coaches us next Fall should have a competitive team in the SBC and maybe when it. The ULM game sorta' opened my eyes that we were still shy some athletes and we sure do lose a bunch of Texas HS products to ULM, ULouisiana and LaTech.. I don't know how our 2011 team speed will compare with our OOC foes starting with the Houston Coog's who will help us open our new stadium. Of course, a bit early to be talking about that game. First thing I noticed when Boise played OU in that exciting BCS bowl game a few years ago is how they matched the Sooners "player to player" with their team speed. Team speed with talent, too, of course.
  10. I had heard the same thing, but maybe that from an unreliable source so... ...who does the National Enquirer say we will get as our new MG HFC? GMG! ps: Please God, let this hurry up and be over. Amen.
  11. Voted Coach Fran but will support whoever we hire like I know most all of you will--(yes, Canales, too). GMG!
  12. Thanks for that correction, wardly. GMG!
  13. My gosh! The guy could have worked here for free and not missed a summer European vacation! No secret Coach Fran was my first choice, but we all tend to support who we end up hiring. I noticed that even when Dodge was hired and even most of the anti-Dodge folks still supported their alma mater anyway. What did shock me about Fran is his age. I didn't realize he was already 59 years old; not considered old these days (hello, Papa Joe Paterno) but it was still a surprise anyway. If Coach Fran was on our list, wonder which one of the 2 parties was the least interested in the other? Of course, with the Neinas style of hiring (which I really do like) we will never know. Still wouldn't mind having his son down at Blinn on our staff whoever our official hire ends up being. GMG
  14. GrayEagle hits another home run post... PS: Hope you and Jessica are having a great Thanksgiving weekend with all your kids and grand-kids. (And thanks for that Birthday wish and I hope you, too, Jack get to see an undefeated Mean Green team in our new stadium, too).
  15. And Jack when that day comes, we'll both be playing our angelic harpist version of Glory to the Green. I just don't know what shade of green I want my heavenly cloud to be just yet; who knows, might run a poll on GMG.com to get some ideas, but I know that, too, would probaby end in a stalemate. GMG!
  16. Yeah, once had a Yank' also tell me how much greater it was living up north than in the south/southwest, but when I saw his auto's Texas license plates all I could say was...uh huh....and..."you enjoy spending all that Texas money you made at your Texas job up north, too." UNT needs to win some SBC games, win some bowl games and for sure win some OOC games vs. ranked teams before we can do much bragging about anthing but............like you, meangreendrew, I can't imagine Ball State being a better HC job than UNT even now and especially after we move into the new stadium.
  17. Gol' darn it, SUMG, you could have wiped the raindrops from the cam while you were close by, couldn't you? GMG
  18. In many ways Fry was UNT's last grasp and hope of keeping college football in Denton and he spoiled it in a most grandiose way for those on campus who did not want football and who really believed post-Rod Rust that they would get their way. gmg
  19. Repeating again: The top man of www.GoMeanGreen.com told me that Coach Mac has 25 of his linemen who were coached by him have been in the NFL or are still active. That is one form of what you can call "skins on the wall." The thing about these kind of hires (like Fry) is how much quicker they can get a program from Point A to Point B. When you have project hires many times your program doesn't make it even half way to Point B least of all make it all the way to Point B and I know one school in Texas that has been there--done that for way too many years now. GMG!
  20. I'll be pissed if they match Boise and TCU in a bowl a 2'nd year in a row.
  21. TCU and Boise would beat the 2'nd division of all the AQ conferences and probably a big majority (if not all) of their upper division teams, too. The guy should have stuffed a big turkey leg in his mouth before he spoke. TCU is easily the best team in the Lone Star State--bar none. gmg
  22. Very good, Tony! Proud of you with the big letters and such great colors, too! I 2'nd that emotion from Tony, too. Happy Thanksgiving to all the MG Nation on this board and beyond.
  23. Until that happens, why not make things interesting that may get the attention of the national media (of which we have not come close in 10 years as a conference)? Although our Suprme King Wright Waters has already crowned South Alabama as the next Boise, the rest of us merely want to have a few 'Belt bones thrown our way that might indicate that this league is doing things that point us in a northerly direction of going up the NCAA totem pole; you know like in national rankings for the first time in 'Belt history? Phil, I like your answer best although many 'Belt enthusiast won't.
  24. Since 2001 thru 2010 those SBC football schools are? ? ? ? If the Mean Green are not in the Top 25 in the next 10 years then Dr. Rawlins would probably be the first to say "we made the wrong hire in 2010." Looking at the apparent kind of coaches on the short list Neinas submitted to our powers, I think our chances will be dramatically more realistic to think we can. GMG!
  25. Thanks for that info, UNTflyer, because I was afeared that was the case. Wonder how much that name would cost with whoever wants it in the future?
