  1. Fellow Brazoria County-ite, DPP, they actually had a major intervention for KB, but those who were part of it are they themselves in the nut house because of Benson's dogged persistance. Gotta' give the guy an A for "never give up" effort (I guess). Who makes up the WAC today? Are UTSA and/or TxSt (SM) still going to be part of it or will the NCAA allow it? And La Tech? GMG!
  2. For all practical purposes, most all Southwest region FBS schools were closing out their Texas HS recruiting year during the early signing period, but who is left that UNT may be interested and they in UNT?
  3. We needed him on the sidelines so when he was not playing QB those who may be hesitant to play hurt can see the master at work. Wonder what or who changed his mind about staying (and not counting his dad who I don't think changed Riley's mind). It will be a fresh start for Riley, but playing in our new stadium next year w/o the one who probably convinced UNT powers when no one else was talking new stadium that this "HAD" to be done and.........that inspiration not being on the sidelines may have made Riley's decision easier. What a non-Hollywood ending this whole damn story had. Riley Dodge ='s Gutsy Guy! GMG!
  4. ...or Alfred J. Newman dressed in a lime green leisure suit at the top, Harry?
  5. The name Southwest Conference is still owned by ??????. Putting "new" in front of it would make some lawyer rich because of it still being too similar. Fresh topics, though, are next to godliness IMHO...just sayin' my .02 Recruiting news or new breakthroughs?
  6. You win at our level and you lose coaches for doing it. I still think we'd all love to start losing more coaches in football and basketball the next 40 years instead of what we've seen the last 40 where we basically had only one coach leave and then he truly making it happen at the place he moved to. Hell, any school can annually field losers and just keep hanging onto the the same staff (and that also counts administrative staff, too). I know of one school that has specialized in doing that most my life post UNT-graduation. SMU will have to fight to keep June Jones the next year or so because he will eventually want to start playing before much larger audiences than SMU will ever give him. Their having 17,000 at the "Fill Ford" promo just weeks before they went bowling I'm sure left an indelible impression on him albeit in a most negative way. Just sayin'... GMG! PS: Great Houston area pub for Coach Jones and UNT, though.
  7. I will never understand why some coaches have even been given more than 5 years to post their first winning season as has been the case at some outposts. The tolerance of losing records even at 3 years in a row is getting ever so close to that of zero (tolerance) even in the NCAA. Yes, they make good money but job security at most NCAA jobs are hardly enough to buy a house with an extended note for darn sure. GMG!
  8. There are far worse things the good Denia folks could be thankful that are "not" happening in their neighborhood adjacent to the UNT campus and in 2 words its called: eminent domain Ask all those in Arlington who had to move because of JerryWorld about that very real problem. Sometimes we are not thankful for the things that are not happening around us and should be content with what we have and try to understand the world is not coming to an end. Only alternative for anyone in any neighborhood anywhere that might seem like an unsovleable, unbearable or uncomfortable situation would be to: M-O-V-E I think when all the roads and outlets are put in place around the new stadium and the MG Village, Denia'ites may determine for themselves that 6 Saturday out of each Fall is not so bad a situation at all. GMG
  9. I believe it was actually Abe Lincoln who coined the phrase: "You can't keep all the people happy all the time?" Don't many of us remember the UT tree-huggers in Austin back in the 60's and 70's who were just as vociferous? I think Denia citizens are a bit too late to be upset now and........how many of em' will have $10 up close parking signs in their yards on Game Day is a question many probably have, too; and if they do--more power to them 'cause it wouldn't bother most of us and would probably change a few of their minds about Game Day, too. GMG!
  10. Trips to Houston every 2 years is important and Army/Navy would bring fans to our new stadium, too. Good choices, Kram1! GMG!
  11. In about 4 decades Tulsa has been a thorn in UNT's side in most all sports. I'm not sure we could beat them in darts or horse shoes. The Golden Hurricane have been a tough customer for us to handle and I guess I need to be reminded the last time we beat them in football and how many X's the last 40 years that has happened? As a HS kid in the Houston area, I do remember seeing an ABC TV game against North Texas and Tulsa, but cannot remember how that one turned out, either.
  12. Still one has to wonder which CUSA school may want to take the TCU example of removing themselves from a Southwest Conference-type consortium of schools (cusa) which they think may be holding them back from possible BCS Bowl Buster potential. TCU seemed to gain the advantage almost as soon as they were no longer part of a league which included SMU (and others similar). Yet TCU started making their Big Time hay once they became a Texas collegiate football island unto themselves with no more traditional ties with schools they'd been with for about 80 plus years in some cases. Seems TCU's break-away from their former ties with CUSA is what some from UNT think might be best for us to move to the next level, a la TCU. We will need some outside help for this to happen which may be another reason to retain Chuck Neinas or someone like him with no emotional or degreed ties with North Texas; albeit there would be ties with North Texas's consultant coffers for certain. I fear the potential bonding between CUSA and the MWC may take all bets off the table for UNT, though. If the 'Belt could just start getting some ranked football teams all this would be much easier to fathom as far as thinking there was some kind of upwardly bound future with the league we're presently already a part. Interesting days ahead... GMG!
  13. And GrayEagle, its that "only holds 30,000" part of your post that is UNT's new "one foot shy of olympic sized PEB pool" kick in the arse that we are going to keep hearing more and more. In fact, we've already heard it from some of our own like ESPN's Dave Barnett who on the MGRN said as much and even Todd Dodge who said "although kinda' small its as good a stadium as there is in the nation." My contention is that if we could have built a 30K stadium what more would it have taken to add 5K to 10K more seats and whose to say that cannot still happen sooner than later, too? The 30K keeps us in the company of the schools we'd like to remove ourselves from who also cannot get the Big Boys into their stadiums because of size. Yes, Boise has a similar sized stadium but no one else among our 30,000 High Club has done what Boise has done of late as a BCS Bowl Buster, either. I hate the words "only holds 30,000" and the sooner we change that un-magic number among the FBS the better. GMG! PS: How did U of Central Florida get the UT Longhorns to come to their own stadium's Grand Opening? What did that take? Anyone know? Has UNT officials ever asked UT if they'd come help us celebrate our new stadium? Sometimes it just a mere matter of who you know at the other school's staff that does the job and maybe thats how UCF got the Horns to their cookie cutter erector set stadium. GMG! !
  14. Agree, Steve... Happy New Year! GMG!
  15. http://mac-sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=9400&ATCLID=1091980&SPID=3802&SPSID=42968 MAC football has two teams in top 25 rankings in Bowling Green and Northern Illinois Steve, the link above is what was going on in the MAC in the SBC's first year of operation. The headline at the top shown here and the link tells it all. Also, we've had not one Top 25 SBC school ranking (when I think we should have in the past) during the season when MAC schools seemed to be making obvious impressions with some sportswriters? (Hey, I'm pulling for the SBC to have similar Top 25 rankings already). I think Troy a few years ago should have been Top 25 maybe for 2 seasons or more but the same sportswriters who have put 2 MAC teams in the Top 25 at one time were not around for us when I think Troy was as Top 25 worthy, too, did not vote for the Trojans for whatever reason. No conspiracy here, just sayin' what I've been see'in with the MAC other years they also had Top 25 school rankings as well. Bottom Line: I feel the SBC has had schools in past years that could have probably beaten some of those ranked MAC teams. Just my .02 GMG!
  16. Yet the major thing the MAC still seems to have over the 'Belt is they have a coalition of sportswriters who will vote one of their better teams into a Top 25 poll whereas we have not been successful getting poll'sters to vote for one of our best teams in the past for a spot in the Top 25. I think Troy would have been one of those who could have been Top 25 looking at how competitive they used to play OOC teams and I also think for the MAC and SBC its all about what you do against the better OOC teams. Not real impressive to poll voters when you come into conference play 0 & 5, 1 & 4, etc. and so forth. GMG!
  17. Said it before but all this North Texas business will either drive you to the juice or religion. Lets all act like we of North Texas ain't interested in the slightest in the Mountain West Conference so another school so near and dear to our heats will not be either, OK? GMG!
  18. Bring on the Horns! We'll Castrate Em' Till They Sing High Enuf' To Be 1'st Sopranos In the Vienna Boys Choir! Their Place--Then Our Place... And We Won't...Back...Down! GMG!
  19. My one unsuccessful attempt to do what seems very popular in today's society--the complete revising of history albeit sports history. My bad, CMJ, I thought they had won one NC during the Shaq era which was what--1 or 2 years before he turned pro? I still lean on last weeks LSU win being our biggest in Mean Green basketball history just like the Tennessee football win was in.......well, you all know the rest of that one since you all have heard that one from me once (maybe twice?) the last 10 or so years on Harry's board? GMG!
  20. They sent me a bag of switches painted in fire engine red. GMG!
  21. Judge Joe, not only should we refuse to play them, but we should especially refuse to play them in the future at our new football palace. (just kiddin') GMG!
