  1. Ethics? You ever read "Meat On The Hoof" about the UT football program in the 60's? It was a NY Times best seller back in the day and authored by a Denton HS alum (the late Gary Shaw) who played at UT-Austin. It was an eye-opener for this college football fan. GMG!
  2. Whats in a name? Apparently everything with some of these re-alignment conferences who have not checked the box score attendance figures at some of these "name" schools the last 20 or so years. All this just makes me want to puke pea green vomit with what is going on in today's NCAA. The American dream as far as the NCAA is concerned has all but a "closed membership" attitude aimed at many schools like North Texas because of what some other schools did 60 or 70 years ago, but really haven't done that much lately in wins or home attendance. These issues seem to not matter with conference leaders or the schools they are looking at, but it seems to always matter with schools like our own alma mater. The double standard reins freely in all facets of American life of late. Granted, we have not done our part in winning but some of these other schools have gone through similar droughts, too, but once we put a 3-4 year win streak together that won't be so far behind some other schools who are being looked at by some of these conference commissioners now. I really think if we could get 1 or 2 of these league's commissioners such as the MWC , CUSA and why not the Big East up to Denton just for a Mean Green Village walk-through capped off with a personal tour of Apogee Stadium then a tour of our fabulous & ageless Super Pit that all that alone would change some minds and we'd get some more "jeez, I didn't know yall had all this up here" comments. Just-A-Sayin... GMG!
  3. Can't we say for the first time in North Texas football history that the size of our crowd and the noise our crowd have already shown it can generate because of the accoustics inside Apogee Stadium is worth at least one touchdown for the team wearing the Mean Green? Example below of Apogee Stadium crowd noise after the first North Texas TD scored against Univ. of Houston. http://proxy.espn.go.com/blog/...loss-to-houston Addendum: Been watching Mean Green football for 38 years now and I've never heard such (collective) crowd noise as made after the first TD scored at Apogee Stadium. The New Mexico State game in 2001 would come the closest but the Fouts crowd noise always fell flat like a concert hall with dead accoustics. Like Gil Brandt said about our stadium: "...this is really, really something special."
  4. Is that the same lady of whom while speaking at a graduation she stated that Chairman Mao was one of her heros? If not...I beg your pardons in advance.
  5. LJ, will look you up this Saturday and you can catch me up on some people we know. How about DJ Ed who worked for KLUV for starters? GMG!
  6. I think 22K+.and with our having had 7 losing years in a row I for one am tickled pinkish' green with what we've already had come thru the Apogee Stadium turnstiles. I will be part of that 22K plus crowd. Wait till this Mean Green Machine starts winning (again) and see how our growth the last 10 years on campus, the City of Denton, Denton County, DFW NT Exes & Beyond really starts to show. It will make some of the conference commissioners out there have buyer's remorse with the school(s) they added to their leagues but one particular school they should have added instead. Of course we're bias, but no matter how you slice it our upside at the University of North Texas still towers above some of these schools who get pretty easy passes and mention for some of this re-alignment talk. Can't we honestly say for the first time in North Texas football history that the size of our crowd and the noise our crowd can generate because of the accoustics inside Apogee Stadium is worth at least one touchdown for the team wearing the Mean Green? I like your Green Brigade icon, kalebschumann. (Are you a classical pianist and/or composer, too)? GMG!
  7. Did anyone ever think that Coach Patterson (not known for such antics) had maybe even rehearsed this rant because it will give him (and TCU) an out on sponsoring SMU for the Big East? TCU has been operating (and recruiting) rogue since they entered the MWC while at the same time trying to keep their distance from ex SWC schools now in CUSA for definite reasons and just observing at what happened at Pasadena, CA, last January at the Rose Bowl I think TCU's modus operendi of being separate from their former SWC/CUSA bretheran has paid some very nice dividends. Yet if SMU is in the Big East then TCU has lost some of their exclusivity and operating in rogue status? I think this a possible reason for Coach Pat's rant at ACS versus SMU and from one usually not prone to ranting. Just sayin'...
  8. Folks, we have had as difficult a time beating Coach Schnellenberger's FAU teams almost as if they were the gol'darned Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Even before they were officially in the 'Belt, they came into Fouts and schooled us quite convincingly and guess who represented the SBC at a bowl that same Fall? (need a color hint)? My prediction: North Texas.....35 FAU..................24
  9. Happy Birthday, Rick V! For your birthday present invite CUSA Brit Banowsky and the MWC's Craig Thompson (both commish'es) to your Apogee Stadium suite for this Saturday's SBC opener; juice em up and then let them fight over which one of their leagues gets North Texas! GMG!
  10. Actually, there are some SMU alums who don't concur with a handful who give us grief; on the other hand, some of us have done the same amount of dishing out grief to SMU'ers in years past. All 3 Metroplex schools merely have to do is just take care of their respective business and all 3 will have good things happen (and that's whether we play each other not). Granted, though, it is great collegiate fun when a visiting school has many of their fans in attendance and usually at tailgates one on one communication from alums of both schools proves that few of us from either side are really ogres in person.
  11. We will win this game giving us our 2'nd win with 4 to go for a bowl game and I'd all but wager that there will be a conference VIP in one of Apogee Stadium's luxury suites, too, checking out what all the buzz is about Apogee Stadium, the Mean Green Village, etc, etc, etc, and what the University of North Texas has going on now even w/o several winning seasons in a row. Things are moving fast in this latest round of re-alignment, folks. I hope our UNT students show up en mass this Saturday. It is very important that they do. Adios....going to bed now.
  12. The post below (Lots of smoke...) is from UH's www.CoogFans.com and presents an interesting scenario. If what NWCougar posts comes to fruition. Who will be left in CUSA? Re: Lots of smoke on SMOO to the Big East Based on what I've read, which probably doesn't mean squat, the Big 12 was looking at TCU. Now, if the BE takes SMU and UCF, and not UH then I think we'll see a UH join the MWC along with Tulsa and possibly UTEP and USM. Perhaps the merger that was rumored? Man, as much as I'd hate to see SMU over UH it almost makes sense that most of the private basketball schools with religious affiliations would want SMU over UH.
  13. That very thought just crossed my mind, Emmitt. We somehow must become the next Boise "BCS Bowl Buster" State kind of football program if even that part of future changes in the NCAA stays in tact. Think of all the ACQ lower division schools that have not come close to what the Broncos of BSU have been doing the last 15 years. In fact, all future NT recruits would need to know that is now our goal; if it in deed that objective becomes our stated goal. Yet... one needs a score card to keep up with what the presidents and the Big 6 Conference commissioners are up to. Wonder what part of NCAA football they just don't see working as it is? All of this is giving me vertigo.
  14. If we don't get our way this time around things could still be worse as in... ...The economy is so bad that: I received a pre-declined credit card in the mail. CEO's are now playing miniature golf. Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen. Angelina Jolie adopted a child from America. Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore. A picture is now only worth 200 words. They renamed Wall Street " Wal-Mart Street". Finally, I called the Suicide Hotline. I got a call center in Pakistan and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck. (from the Bulldog, Bytes & Barks board).
  15. Might they have to put higher protective fencing at the top of the Wing Section of Apogee to keep some of our fans from jumping? This re-alignment business is sheer insanity, but would be just fine if we could get the conference of our choice, right? CUSA or MWC would be just fine, though. Wonder what La Tech'sters think of their chances now?
  16. http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/10/02/3413552/big-12-presidents-meet-to-address.html So might there be 2 conferences looking after the BE and Big 12 finish their cherry pickin'?
  17. Happy Birthday To You...(and many more). GMG!
  18. When Coach Dan McCarney came into this job, he evaluated the talent and said "folks, we are going to need some time." I trust the evaluation of a former HFC at a Big Time School than maybe some of our usual assistant coach hires of past decades who might just be trying to buy some time on their contracts? I think Coach Mac at age 57 knows quite a bit more than some because of where he's been. His last gig was Assistant Head Football Coach for the Florida Gators so he knows his talent. Said it pre-Indiana game to our AD at at tailgate but Year 3 is when I think we see a Mean Green turnaround with more talent of which we've not seen the likes of in a long time. Fry's 2'nd year at NT was a disaster with only 2 wins. Firstly, we must out recruit anyone in the SBC and at least half the schools in CUSA. Yet we also need to keep the perspective that hardly any of Boise State's recruiting classes are ever touted nor ranked high at all. The evaluation of talent is foremost at a school like Boise and North Texas for that matter. If you didn't notice, players recruited for CUSA schools seem to be a step quicker and much larger across the board than North Texas. Guess that is one reason some of us want a better conference because it even affects the kind of recruits you get across that same board. Just another .02 cents. GMG!
  19. NTF, I know where you are coming from, but when SMU entered CUSA they were sucking hind teat as a football program as I recall. I realize they came in with a consortium of schools, too, but still SMU's poor multi-years W/L record didn't impede their getting into CUSA. The Stangs with June Jones certainly have it going on now. Lady Timing, Lady Luck, UNT and Realignment: Most if not all our fans are just sick that we are not dominatting the SBC now like we did the first 5 years when the league (albeit not a strong one in those years) first opened for business and the reasoning with that since an acutal winnning program speaks louder than words compared to a school's potential to a possible new conference home and its officials. Our 1,000 plus acre Mean Green Village of athletic venues topped off with Apogee Stadium which I don't think could be built today for less than $125 million gives North Texas an upside that even UH and Big 10 Indiana fans in attendance at Apogee were blown away with to hear their comments. Yet, it helps to have friends in high re-alignment conference places of which I'm not sure where North Texas stands in that department. We feel former UNT consultant Chuck Neinas will always put in a good word for us albeit we know we are not Big 12 prime time ready for at least a few years. Many of us on this board would kill for a chance at either CUSA or even the MWC of which I think the MWC is closer to ACQ status than CUSA, quite frankly. Just sayin'....
  20. I stated in another post that not all SMU alums/fans were like a handful on their board who give North Texas smack. It's a 2 way street as many of us can plead guilty for doing the same--I speak for myself as well on that. We have all been guilty of egging much of it on but nothing that I see as over the top malicious. Smack talk has even been known to sell tickets, but a good, quality football program does so much more in that department. I've heard SMU Coach June Jones on KLIF and he is a class act from the word go with his FCA association and helping focus on some disease I cannot recall which one but he is active in the Dallas community to help young kids, too. Both schools as public and private universities have different missions and seem to both do well in accomplishing those missions with their specific clientele and student bodies.
  21. Obviously, our main problem at Tulsa U was Derek Thompson's wrapped up ankle which sidelined our starting QB. He was the one who commondeered our Big 10 win over Indiana last I checked. Last year at this time neither one of our backups were even on our campus. And on Head Football Coaches turnover? Boise State lost 5 head football coaches in the space of 10-11 years and were still able to stay in the Top 25 through each HFC's turnover. That was an amazing accomplishment IMO. I think Coach Mac will get this football program in the Top 25 within 4 years. We now have a stadium that is Top 25 worthy and fans who will be falling all over themselves trying to get into Apogee Stadium once this happens. It's All Good! It's All Green, right FFR?
  22. Hey CE, I know here goes ol Fry talk PMG again, but in Fry's 2'nd year we won "ONLY" 2 games, the next year we would beat Houston and Tennessee and North Texas would literally become the toast of that winter's NCAA Football Convention. Most of us kept that bowl talk for UNT this Fall in perspective and funnny thing is....we still have a chance to get 6 wins even though most of us have said Coach BillMac will start turning this thing around in (probably) Year 3. Anything earlier is a bonus. I have this next Saturday off because of a trade-off I gave another fellow DJ and nothing will keep me from UNT's Apogee Stadium Tent Revival. That place energizes this 60 yo NT Ex like I never thought it could or would. When they start playing Zombie Nation over Apogee's Super Sound System I feel like jumping out on the stadium floor in my lime green speedos and gyrating like no other 60 year old can (or should even try). And I leave that last sentence for all of you reading this to add to your visual of the day. GMG!
  23. It was going to be virtually impossible for TCU coaches to tell their team this Fall that they needed to out-do last year's performance because their last game was a Rose Bowl winning game for Frogdom so they first lose to Baylor in the season opening game. If TCU's Coach Patterson & Co. could have convinced the 2011 Frogs that they could go beyond the Rose Bowl pinnacle after losing some key talent then some Super Big Time School was truly missing out on hiring this guy . SMU should be commended for a nice win, but few over here will do that based on their very unusual attitude of condescension toward North Texas over the years but even they know it is now a new era (Apogee Stadium finally gave us that) for the school they tell us they so ignore but secretly know they cannot do so any longer. The fact that they are so condescending toward the University of North Texas most traineed psychologists I think would say speaks volumes (and would suggests that they really are looking over their shoulders at what we have going on in Mean Green Country). Fact is, not all SMU alums are that way. and have complimented us on our new stadium. (Hellsbells, UH and Big 10 fans were walking around our 1,000 plus acre Mean Green Villlage tailgating & being impressed as hell at what they were seeing and many of you saw and heard that, too. Granted, the TCU win was a big win for the 'Stangs, just like ours will be over them when they visit Apogee Stadium when Coach Mac has more weapons in his arsenal. SMU should stop all their groaning about not having UT, TAMU, TTech, etc, coming into Dallas every other year with their 10K to 15K extra fans for an SMU home game and just look around the neighborhood at what could be an even better rivalry with damn good attendance in the boxscores.
  24. So now we bring on those Nittany Lions of PU to our magnificent Apogee Stadium? Why not? We will show them how to make the ol' pigskin squeal! GMG! Beat Tulsa! It's Time!
