  1. If UTA joins this collegiate football Lone Star State club we'd only be 6 more schools away from having 20 BCS/FBS schools in Texas. Hey! I know where we'd be headed with that.........two 10 team divisions of a Texas only conference. In fact, the UT system is getting close to where they could have their on "UT system conference all by themselves. King Football Returns To Texas.............En Mass!
  2. I am sure there will be a reason as to why not but why not let......UNT students use their Student ID cards bar codes to enter Apogee and cut out the middle man who seems to have a very short timeline window for UNT students to come to the ticket windows to get their tickets. OK, lets hear the beaurocratic campus bylaws reason of why this cannot happen. GMG!
  3. But 9K or 10K is not what was reported in the Sunday AM boxscore. TCU has turned the corner with drawing fans when they could not before, but TCU has not had a string of losing seasons in quite awhile, either. I am still curious to see how UTSA sells seasons tickets between a long string of losing seasons. North Texas should adopt the TCU model of "NOT" having a string of losing seasons and then lets stretch out our legs and see what our (much larger constituency than when many of us were UNT students) can do then. All our present frustrations have 7 losing seasons as the main vehicle pushing all of those frustrations to the forefront of our minds. We see great things happening to almost everyone around us it seems.....everyone but us (yet). . It even has some on this forum almost wanting to get rid of a coach who hasn't even finished his first season. (Wasn't June Jones 0 & 12 his first season at SMU-- I stand to be corrected on that). Drawing while losing should be our UNT community wide goal because that will make the winning part of turnstiles count a piece of cake. Not sure why most every part of the USA can do this except DFW it seems.
  4. Quote from Harry's original post on this thread Of the 105 players on the North Texas roster 29 are seniors, compared to just 19 juniors and 23 sophomores. Coach McCarney and his staff had to make up the remainder with freshman, giving that class 34 spots on the roster. The gap comes mostly from the 2008 and 2009 signing classes, where just 16 of the 32 freshmen that signed from those two classes remain at North Texas. ___________________________________________________ "Luceeeee, would you esplain all that to me? Gracias". "Fred & Ethel coming over for supper tonight, too? Good, I'll get my drums out and sing "Baaba-Looooo" while you & Ethel plan and sceme another dumbA$$ idea! GMG!
  5. Quoner, I liked that....................I think? A #1 for you.
  6. A "terrorist tirade?" Whoops! Politically incorrect use of wordage. I failed that part of the course in my resettlement camp. Also tried to sneak a Hostess Twinky into my stalag and got 22 lashes for that.
  7. Reading another board that the Big East Cincy' you post about is averaging just 5K per game more than "7 losing seasons in a row" North Texas. Many of us have hopes for this football program and our fan base, too. Never dreamed the Todd Dodge HS experiment would fail so miserably. We seemed to get no connection to other Texas high schools, either (besides of course Southlake Carroll to a limited extent). We have moved on....
  8. Grown "out" may be the appropriate word? (Read in US or People she had them, uh, reduced). Shame on you Grean Mean for posting that (and shame on me for responding).
  9. Counsel, we are just all frustrated about "starting over" again plus the constant losing is getting our goat (so to speak). Did you see Harry's thread on classifcation yesterday and your thoughts on that? I think it just adds more obstacles to our eventual prize, but I think D-MAC is the man for this job once all the smoke clears from all our hot sports opinions and none on this board are too shy to express them (as they shouldn't be). I concur with all you say (as I do most any time you visit and post). Good luck with your ASU season. GMG
  10. It won't...CUSA membership did nothing for their attendance. Most of the private schools in the old SWC (even TCU at one time before) had no large home crowds until the Horns, Ags, Hogs and Red Raider fans came to Dallas and Fort Worth respectively. T'would be nice to be able to have padded our attendance with about 15,000 visiting fans, too. Tulane U is in the same boat as SMU and posters on other boards laugh about how TU's attendance counter exagerates a bit himself. GMG!
  11. If we're not playing Sister Mary's Nunnery U we'll be OK. Yet Jeez--Louise, the larger UNT, Denton, Denton County and DFW NT Exes become has to translate at the Apogee Stadium gate sooner or later; that is, unless aliens are kidnapping each generation of Mean Green fans whereas we have to replace a whole new set of em' every 10 years. (OK already, too much late night 570 AM KLIFF radio show Coast to Coast for me--they come up with some weird subjects nightly). GMG!
  12. Quotes come from a CoogFans.com UH poster On SMU Thread Posted: Today 12:16 PM SMU Player Calls Out Fans "Our coaches and my teammates have spent countless hours in the film room and meetings getting ready (not to mention bringing national attention and thousands of new applicants each year) and this is how our community thanks us? Don't be surprised now when I say it's more fun for us to play on the ROAD than it is at home. At least the opposing team's fans show up, and the game experience resembles what I dreamed about rather than the ***-wee football experience we have here where it seems only the players' parents are in the stands." Guess our guys thought this, once upon a time. http://www.smudailycampus.com/...pirit-1.2653972 ___________________________________________________________________ Darn it, you almost have to feel sorry for their players especially since they are presently in a win cycle with a bowl last year and their 2'nd winning season in a row and another bowl. June Jones will want to coach before larger crowds eventually unless SMU has him a "Gary Patterson-esque" salary package. North Texas while losing needs to work on having winning crowds so that when the wins come it's all gravy from there. What is UNT doing to get in another non-AQ upgraded conference? Per another UNT alum, "at least SMU made noises about wanting in the Big 12" and look what all that noise may have gotten them instead. Hopefully, there are things being done in the background by President Rawlins, our BOR's and AD/RV.
  13. Come on now all let's take it easy on each other, I like & appreciate FFR and he knows it, but wait a minute here..........people don't like me. (Let me think some more on that one and get back with a manifesto).
  14. First Year Success Was All Our Wishes But...........after 7 losing years in a row I don't know what we should really be expecting here based on our trendy non-successful past in a lower tier league to boot. We have to dominate the SBC again (preferably at a higher level ranking-wise); that is, if we don't get CUSA or MWC membership because Lady Location may finally be smiling on North Texas. Yes, Lady Luck, Lady Timing and Lady Location: We need all 3 of ya'! The classification imbalance of MG football players on scholarships that Harry posted a thread yesterday still blows me away. (Are there Southland Conference schools who have more on scholarship than North Texas because of it)? 7 losing years in a row in the Sun 'Belt Conference is hardly a positive when you compare us to all the other conferences that have more talent across the board. In other words, this football program may have very well have bottomed out in Dodge's 5 years in what has (arguably) been called one of the 2 worst football conferences in the FBS. If it bottoms out at this level (folks) then...............we have truly really bottomed out. Frys' first 3 years W/L record at North Texas 1973......Won 5 games 1974......Won 2 games (this season was a surprise to many and had people talking then like many talking about D-MAC before his 1'st season is over). 1975.....Won 7 games Been said already but what if we had had last years seniors on this year's team? I know...........would, coulda' and if "if's and but's" but who the heck knows. Our program is just off balance right now due to poor decisions of the past & is why I think Coach McCartney was hired to build this thing in the first place and to build it with a more solid foundaton than we've see in a long time. D-MAC's Skins Are There: I mean when North Texas hire him he was Assistant HFC at Florida and back in the day took Iowa State's program to 5 bowl games in what has been described as an impossible situation from Big 12 people. Folks, like it or not, but our situation until Apogee opened its doors has been called an impossible situation, too. Year 3 with this program might be the best barometer for an above .500 W/L (as Year 3 became Fry's 1'st above .500 season). I have no idea, though, what this classification disparity will create yet another obstacle for a football program that has seen its share of those.
  15. Comet7745, have you visited PonyFans.com the last decade to see all the bouquets they toss toward North Texas? I knew a new (Apogee) stadium would have just about a 1 game effect (which it did) for our losing program but winning King Football in Texas is still where its at.. The DFW sports fan is about as fickle as they come and I have no idea why. When Fry left UNT for Iowa and when introduced to Hawkeye fans at a baskeball game all he said was 2 words with his west Texas drawl. "We'll win!" And those 2 words brought their sold out BB arena down in what was said to be a new decibal record of deafening applause. SMU's Worry Now Is..........We lost Fry because there were not 100 bowl games back then for his winning teams to be a participant of which he said he would have stayed had those teams been rewarded with a bowl and quite frankly I think we also lost him because like most aspiring coaches: Hayden Fry wanted to coach before much larger audiences than he was getting in a much smaller populated Denton and a UNT enrollment at about 17,000 back then Large Audiences: That is the thing that SMU will have to concern themselves now with June Jones because if you don't think he is not noticing all those empty seats at Gerald J. Ford Stadium for his winning program then your not being very astute about this (and quite frankly you seem to be a very astute student of the great college football game). Losing begats emotions from high to low on boards like GoMeanGreen.com. You have people on this forum threatening to leave this program if they don't get their way on anything. If someone finds out your a conservative yet they a liberal, they take on a new and different attitude toward you, too. I've noticed that Big Time. Yet this board is America! It's a hodge-podge of just about every kind of race, creed and religion you will find from coast to coast but still......."cant' we all just get along" (to quote the great Rodney King who said that from his heart and not for a vote for public office, either). I digress but what's new about that? GMG!
  16. What is it about Methodist schools and their sleazy attendance counting for heaven's sake? I'm a member of Couts Methodist Church, Weatherford, Texas, and can say that.
  17. I Back Mac too, but aren't these kind of things for coaches who have coached beyond 1 year and whose jobs may be in doubt? I back Coach Chico, too, as his Asst HFC but some of the criticism aimed toward him from this board with what remains from last year's team is uncalled for, IMHO. Granted, we are all tired of starting over again but it is what it is, folks. Lay back, enjoy the Apogee Experience and just watch this team grow in the next 2-3 years, but moreso.... watch it grow to new heights not seen around these parts for about 4 decades as we most likely are spending our last days in the Sun Belt Conference. GMG!
  18. As a Coog' fan in my youth growing up in the Greater Houston area I also say.............Congrats to all on Cullen Boulevard, Houston, Texas!
  19. Many of us supported the hiring of Coach Dodge. Todd Dodge showed us us all how to leave a job with class and even as he had nice things to say about UNT on his way out. His son Riley who laid it all on the field for North Texas was and still is a friend of many in this program and we wish only the best for both, but it was TD's 5 years at UNT tagged onto Darrell Dickey's last 2 losing seasons in Denton that set this program back and has us only drawing 20K per home game this season--"only 20,000?" Heck.............Big East school Cincy' Bearkats are only drawing 25K per home game now so just wait and see what Mean Green wins do to inflate our reall butts in seats. With Apogee I feel it will be more than dramatic. DFW--a major sports market is a winners town and we will have our attendance once we get over this multi-season losing streak behind us, but as far as SMU is concerned they couldn' draw flies if they were a horse sh&t factory. That is why they feel they have to lie about their attendance, too, since a bowl team in its 2'nd winning season should be "lights out" at the turnstiles at present--but are not. GMG!
  20. But when "2" of the UH posters on the CoogFans.com messge board, uh, exxegerate(sp?)? I love re-alignment talk and SMU bashing when they can't prove we (are UH alums for that matter) are wrong. The poor little rich kid who nobody' wuv's is just getting what decades of lying about attendance hath wrought, sorry. Some would lie when telling the truth would be so much easier. One SMU home game that drew national attenation while you were probably still in swaddling clothes, MG93-98. was a Southwest Conference "classic" against Rice U when even the SMU attendance counter could not hide the glaring fact that they truly (in deed ) had only 5,000 for that game in the cavernous Cotton Bowl. Enter the Mustang Mania promotion the very next year and 300,000 free tickets given away for any single SMU home game the next Fall after their SMU /Rice game. One SMU/ Baylor game at Texas Stadium had 4 people trying to get in one seat! LOL! Moral: This attendance thing with SMU goes way, way, way back. GMG!
  21. BigPonyFan, one of the UH alums alledges that yall only had 500 to1,000 at your Homecoming game (that he attended) last Fall? Was it the weather? Well, we can relate but we got cruicified for having 13'x's the number of fans yall had for your 2010 Homecoming game at Ford in our own Apogee just 2 weeks ago in a weather game--got 6 inches of rain myself. Yet whether rain, snow, sleet, hail, Divine curse of frogs and locusts, the Trinity River turning blood red or anything............ but hellsbells.....still only 500 to 1,000 fans? I think North Texas has what seems 500 Apogee Stadium Game Day employees and attendants at any one home game alone. And many Coog's on the same UH message board are poking fun at "SMU's exxagerated and inflated attendance numbers" even asking why has SMU been asked in the first place by the Big East officials and..................... * who sold the BE on your school w/o that league apparently not doing their homework other than look at your football media guide on your annual attendance numbers (which certainly ours need to improve & will with wins) but while SMU's has not improved with a bowl game and in the midst of your 2'nd winning season in a row. Care to elaborate on any of this and especially the alleged attendance numbers for your Homecoming game last year? Was it those 500 to 1,000 fans that convinced the Big East that yall could deliver the #4 ranked TV market in the USA? * My guess is that ESPN and former SMU football player Craig James was SMU's front man on every bit of this; that is, James used his position in the market he works (New York) and made this BE project a challenge and then he became a relentless pittbull as he fictionalized, juked, jived and said whatever it took to get SMU into the Big East (while there are probably more deserving schools who do not have to constantly lie about their attendance on a regular basis). Again, just a theory but all this just shows how some college presidents in some of these Big 6 conferences need to butt out of the college football business. Just askin' &.........sayin'... GMG!
  22. We're all tired of starting over. Some of us are running out of years (and decades) to see many more "start overs" at North Texas but still................. we cannot punish the present crowd for the sins of Mean Green past with that MG past not having had that much Top 50 ranked success. (NOTE: Did UL or FIU have such a classification gap)? I believe Coach D-Mac takes us beyond the Bottom 25 curve dramatically and out of the dregs of NCAA society--but not this year or next. Just winning as a Bottom 25 school is not what our campus leaders had in mind any longer, either; that is, when we built Apogee Stadium. Lest we forget, our present main campus President served in the same role as a PAC 12 school president in the past and his own expectations for this school seems to be much higher than we've had for decades. GMG!
  23. That gap is beyond uncanny. Sounds like more of our loyalists need to listen to a former Big 12 HFC with 5 bowls under his belt while there when he tells us "it's going to take awhile?" Probably wouldn't be a bad idea for some to lay off of Coach Chico, too. Why the hell does it always seem we are fighting with a short stick; in this case, a shortfall of bodies that no FBS schools should be having as a problem. All schools have atrition issues but our last coaching regime must have had a revolving door for this to have happened. How many recruiting classes will it take to balance this out? GMG!
  24. And the shorter Apogee Stadium video version that will be played on the giant screen this Saturday. I'm sorry, but this darn video still makes me well up. GMG! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0POrHIpbbCE
  25. Admittedly (and maybe even a character flaw of sorts), but I am just not happy that North Texas has had to stick with the 50 year plan of one poor hiring after another while UTSA catches lightning in a bottle without having to (how many would describe it) really pay their dues. After 38 years I've witnessed of our roller coaster ride some of you others with a similar time span could actually feel the same way. I also think Texas is just getting saturated with too damn many FBS football programs and "too much of Texas anything" such as that in the college football arena has never been a positive and here are 2 prime examples: (1) Frank Broyles and Arkansas used "too many Texas schools in the SWC" as a big reason to vault for the SEC and (2) TCU chose to go rogue and remove themselves from a "too many Texas schools" member conference when they left CUSA. All too many Texas schools do in one league together is beat up on each other and (most years) you can forget Top 25 rankings because of it and hence, I believe a reason TCU left most of their Texas/CUSA rivals behind. Seems to have worked out for Texas Christian U since they are now in the Big 12. People, IMO...........there are viable reasons as to why the Hogs and Frogs did what they did and (in some cases) if North Texas can just get out of this(seemedly) tunnel-visioned modus operendi of wanting to help every other FBS school in Texas get in a league with us for whatever reason because rest assured we will be recruiting against them (and as of now we are already). If we're all together in one league we are no better off doing that than being in the Sun Belt ranked somewhere toward the Bottom 50 schools on an annual basis. (Just put UTSA in a future home and home OOC game schedule). Just one opinion of a long time Texas college football fan who bought the first copy of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine............. post-Ice Age. GMG!
